Location: This Boiling Crab is located downtown on K Street, which isn't the most convenient area. K Street is known for its clubs and dive bars, and there are quite a few homeless individuals around. Parking is limited -- you'll likely need to park in a nearby garage (and the restaurant does not validate). Food: The food itself is great! You start by choosing your protein and pounds -- we both ordered a pound of shrimp -- then you can add extras like corn on the cob, boiled egg, potatoes, and sausage. We went with The Whole Sha-Bang flavor (a mix of Cajun, lemon pepper, and garlic butter) and mild spice -- which was still pretty spicy, and we both tolerate spice well! We also ordered the Cajun fries to share, and they were crispy, well-seasoned, and delicious. Ambiance: The restaurant was clean and had a casual, lively feel. It wasn't crowded (less than half full on a Thursday night), but we still had to wait a bit for a booth to open up. Service: Our server was friendly but a little inconsistent. When we were seated, we weren't given menus, so I asked for one -- the waiter said she could bring a paper menu from the front or that we could scan the QR code on the table. The QR code ended up being for their rewards account, not the menu, which was confusing. We also didn't get refills, and it took a while to get our check at the end of the meal. Final Thoughts: The food definitely delivers -- flavorful, messy in the best way, and worth the splurge. But the downtown location, parking, and slower service make the experience less smooth overall. I'd come back for the shrimp and seasoning again, though probably at a different Boiling Crab location.

Messy, fun, and absolutely worth it." The Boiling Crab has this lively, no-frills vibe that makes you relax the second you sit down. Staff are upbeat and helpful, but the real star is the seafood -- fresh, seasoned just right, and served in a way that makes the whole table part of the experience. Although I think everyone's favorite part is the sudden explosion of song and dance all the staff does you can't help but also stop and watc

We had a server named Zach and he did a phenomenal job and was super funny and nice. Kudos to this man for making me feel so special on my anniversary!!! Also the vibe was so cool and they had good music constantly playing.

We've been to boiling crab before. It's always good. On our way back into town, we stopped at the one here in Sac on K st. The don't take over the phone reservations. But we only had a 15 minute wait. The service was great. Our server suggested the XXX fries (5/5). If you like spicy stuff, give them a try. They were good with ranch and or ketchup. We ordered: 1 lb of shrimp the Whole Shebang flavor, Medium spice, with sausage, potatoes and eggs (5/5) 1 lb of shrimp the Whole Shebang, medium, with sausage and potatoes (5/5) 1 lb of shrimp the whole shebang, medium with potatoes, corn and eggs (5/5) 1 lb of shrimp Lemon pepper flavor, mild, with potatoes and sausage (5/5) 1 lb of shrimp the whole shebang, medium with potatoes and corn (5/5) We've never been disappointed. This food is delicious! The ambiance is upbeat. They have music in the background. Lots of TV screens on the sports channel. Overall, great experience.

This boiling crab always gives me a good experience. I been here several times, the street parking here is rough so find a parking lot and walk to it. The seafood is alway good. Crawfish are always market price. The whole Shabang seasoning is the best with any shellfish. The catfish basket and the bang bang shrimps are always a good option too. Get a cold beer with it, and you can't go wrong. The servers are Always friendly and efficient. Food comes out quick too. Expect to get messy here and it's sexy to eat with your hands and feed each other if you are out with your date.

We were visiting from out of town and my daughter wanted to try it before the Kings/Rockets game since it was only a few blocks from the stadium. We were greeted with a very friendly host, and the place was really busy for a Sunday evening. Our wait was about 45 minutes. Whole waiting I had a chance to look around. It's spacious, but it seems dated. There's also sitting outside. The inside is a little on the dark side. There was a wide sink right outside the entrance to the bathrooms to wash your hands in but one faucet was not working and it looked dingy and not really clean. I would have thought that since it's a restaurant that requires using hands to eat that they would clean the sink and faucets every hour for cleanliness' sake. When we finally sat down, we were greeted by a friendly server but took some time. It also took some time to get my drinks but once we ordered it didn't take long for our food to come out. Gotta admit the food was seasoned well. The kids ordered the seafood boil, I ordered fried food. The fried calamari was good, so was the shabang-bang shrimp that came with rice but it was so spicy, that's why it was called shabang-bang. The wings with lemon pepper seasoning were equally as good. But they still had a little kick to them even though I ordered not spicy. All in all, it was a good experience but might try their other branch next time we visit Sacramento.

My boyfriend and I came to The Boiling Crab the other day and had a great experience! We ordered a pound of shrimp with eggs, potatoes, sausage, a side of rice, and a 1.6 lb lobster. We also got chicken tenders and fries on the side. The fries were super crispy, and the food overall was really good. The service was fast, and the staff was very attentive and friendly, which made the experience even better. The ambience was lively and social--definitely a great spot if you like a fun atmosphere. The only thing I'd tweak is the seasoning; we got the all-in-one flavor bundle, and while it was tasty, I would have liked a little more seasoning to really make the flavors pop. Overall, it was a great meal, and we paid around $115 for everything. Definitely worth checking out if you're craving seafood in a fun setting!

First time trying Boiling Crab in Sac but they have the best flavor so we had to go. The wait was about 1.5 hours but I still think it's worth it tbh. You are able to sit in front and get drinks and relax and chill, so that's always great. Our server was Javi, he was chill and explained everything. He was fast and got our drinks and everything when needed. He was friendly and definitely took care of us. The food was fresh and tasted delicious I can't lie. I really enjoyed my self, my best friend did as well, I think my newborn did too lol she was laughing the whole time. The only bad part was that the kitchen forget out potatoes and corn and rice. We told Javi and he ran to tell the kitchen, obviously not his fault. Granted the kitchen was busy it was a packed night. So please be patient if you come during rush hour and dinner rush, don't blame your servers for something that is not in their control. Javi shout to you bro! If we ever come back we will come back and ask for your section! We definitely enjoyed ourself. Thank you!

The Boiling Crab Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - The Boiling Crab

Do any of the flavors contain major allergens such as dairy or soy?

Our choice of signature seafood-boil sauces do not contain any dairy, but they do contain soy.

Does this location take reservations?

TBC does not take reservations, seating is first available. Please note the entire party must be present to be seated. Happy eating!

Do we have to show vaccination card to eat there?

Proof of vaccination is not currently required to dine indoors at this location, however that may change in the future depending on local mandates.

Can you order the gumbo without seafood?

Thank you for your question. While gumbo may be ordered with our without the addition of shrimp, our gumbo base does include crab meat.

Are you guys not doing dine in anymore and if not for how long?

This location is open for both dine-in and takeout.

Is boiling crab requiring you to show your vaccination card to eat there?

Not at this time.

Do they take reservations? If so, how far out?

No they don't take reservations. You have to just wait to be seated. Probably want to arrive a 1/2 hour to one hour early to get seating.

Is there anyway to buy just the sauce?

Yes. "Extra Juicy" is what it's called. They can add extra sauce to your bag or you can ask to get it a la cart on the side.

Do potatoes and corn come in the bag with the shrimp? I received two orders last night and nothing was in the bag but the shrimp.?

No it doesn't come with it, you have to order it separately.

Does anyone know if they plan to do dine-in soon?

They're open for Dine-in!

What are the prices for shrimp?

Market price, so it varies. Average around $10-12 per pound. But could be as high as $14 per pound if the market price is high.

Do they accept Apple Pay?

No!

Do I have to pay with card, can I pay with cash?

Yes

Whats good to get from the menu?

The best is always the shrimp- whole shabang, and if you're into citrus, lemon pepper fries. The fries are heavily seasoned though- but definitely delicious especially if you dip into the shrimp bag for sauce😋

How much of the seafood is wild caught in the U.S.?

How much is farm raised

Does the outdoor seating allow dogs?

Yes! At least when we went there was a few people who had their dogs.

Is there outdoor seating?

Yes, there is!

My friend got a seafood boil. Our food came out in less than 10 minutes, which was surprisingly fast. I cut into my steak right away to check the temp, it was extremely rare. Cut into a different part of steak just to make sure, also rare. When I showed our server she agreed it was rare and took it back to the kitchen. She comes back after talking to the kitchen and tells me the cook said its not rare, its just the marinade that makes it look dark. I'm like, "huh?" Cause that made no sense to me. Still they cooked the same steak another 5-7 minutes before bringing it back. Now it was a perfect medium. It was obvious they just threw the same steak back on the grill, the 2 cuts i made were still visible. All was good till our server came back to check on us, she asked how the steak came out, when I said it was perfect, she continues to insist it was medium well when I sent it back based on what the kitchen told her, several times she made excuses and would not once admit or own up to the mistake despite me showing her the cut piece of steak on my plate. I get it, most of the food here is seafood that's boiled in a plastic bag, but if you're gonna sell a 45$ steak on the menu, at least train your staff properly.

However, after my recent experience at Creole Sole, I have a more positive outlook on dining in. When a friend of mine and I arrived, we took a moment to observe the many murals on the walls that pay respect to prominent figures in black culture. An employee working behind the counter warmly greeted us and proceeded to take our orders. I opted for the catfish meal with two sides - fries & red beans and rice. Since my friend and I were busy chatting, I cannot speak to how long it took for our food to arrive. However, when I saw the employee bringing our plates, I knew that we were in for a treat. The catfish was fried to perfection and very flavorful, while the fries and red beans + rice complimented the fish perfectly. My only beef (I'm using this word lightly) is that the portion of fries that I received were fairly small (I can't recall if there was a size option for the sides). I love good food; however, I feel that the vibes of an environment truly influence how much one enjoys their meal. I knew that I was in the right place when we started hearing deep cuts from 90's & early 2000's R&B groups like Next and 112! Since it was during the work week, I did not partake in one of their cocktails. However, when I make a return visit in the near future, I will definitely try the Blacker the Berry Lushie and the Sluuriricane!

The Cajun style seafood boils are consistent, messy in a fun way, and generally satisfying, which is a big part of why this place stays so busy. It's definitely a great spot for groups. The whole setup with the bags of seafood, sauces, and sides makes it interactive and social, and it works well when you've got a table full of people sharing everything. That said, the experience can be a bit uneven. The service is something I've always questioned. It's not always poor, but it's very inconsistent. Some visits feel smooth and attentive, others feel a bit off, especially considering how busy they usually are. Food wise, I've always had a good meal here. Nothing has ever been bad, but it also doesn't really stand out beyond what you'd expect from this style of place. It delivers on the concept without really going beyond it.
