I can just sunrise in a few words.... freaking awesome! Yeah! First timer here and I was very impressed with the service and the quality of the food, not to mention the experience of shabu. Great place for a fun, interactive and casual date. Faith and Neff were great when it came to service.

Decent shabu place. The service was on point. We got our food in a timely manner. This place is definitely popular. The meat tasted good. The broth was pretty good. They let you choose up to three broth options which is cool. The lacking part is vegetables. There are not many vegetable selections. It is not great for vegetarian friends. There is no vegetable bar to pick items from. They bring them to you. The sauce bar was also lacking. Not many selections. Quality of the food is really good. Just not a lot of variety with vegetables. Maybe I am spoiled as I have Shabu in the San Gabriel Valley thats super tasty. Decent place. Not bad. I would try it again.

I am visiting from Socal and it was pretty good! Honestly, price wasn't super worth it cause my sister and I have smaller appetite. We got the AYCE dinner option and the total came out to $90+ tip.... Personally, if you have a smaller appetite, I don't recommend but if you can eat a lot it's definitely worth it! But I got the spicy miso and the spicy sichuan which was super flavorful, and the meats were really tender. The place itself was superrr clean and I loved all the decorations inside. The worker too was also really diligent in serving us and checked up on us constantly.

Roses are red; Violets are blue; Life is short, Eat more Shabu! Came in at 11:30AM and it was pretty much empty! Quick service and seating. We chose the regular AYCE which comes out to $40 ish per person. The vegetable portions are pretty large so start at with just one of each before moving on. I accidentally ordered two of each of the veggie portions and we were unable to finish everything. Staff was also great. Our server was Alex, who was so friendly and attentive! Thanks Alex for being so welcoming and helping with the menu! Beautiful interior with cute pink faux foliage. Spacious and clean. Tons of seating and matching decor. Music wasn't too loud and matched the vibes pretty well. Overall, really good experience and I will definitely come back with my friends. I haven't tried the drink menu yet but I will eventually! This definitely seems like more of a nighttime dinner catch up with friends place. Parking is a bit harder to find since there's no immediate lot but I would just park at the DOCO garage or find street parking and walk over. Thank you Shabu Shack!

Across from Golden 1 Center for Kings vs. Clippers basketball game. Faith was the awesome greeter with the infectious smile. Christine was our personal table checker ensuring drinks & additional proteins & vegetables were served. Tom Yum is the soup base for the all you can eat & all you can drink is adult beverage of your choosing. The booth location, the vibe from the playlist & enjoying the company of the ones you love is priceless.

Absolutely loved this spot!! I had never done hot pot before so I wasn't sure how it was gonna go but Shabu Shack did not disappoint. When you get there you share a pot with someone and choose your own broth + meat and cook it yourself. I went with the wagyu and it was delicious. I tried almost every flavor of broth and all of them were amazing. The portion size is HUGE for only $24!! The experience of cooking it ourselves was slightly stressful but also very fun, and they have a whole bar where you can grab additional sauces, and toppings for free. Service was good and food was amazing, if I'm ever back in town I will most definitely be coming back!

This is our first time in Sacramento and we found a local restaurant for the family. The service and food was really good with a good price per person as well for what you can get. We had the AYCE regular and had many rounds of a variety of meats including wagyu, lamb, seafood, and dumplings. The restaurant is decorated well too with cherry blossoms. If I'm in the area again I'd definitely come back!

From start to finish, the food and overall experience were great. You can choose all-you-can-eat or à la carte, which makes it easy to tailor your meal. They offer a huge variety of sauces to pair with your soup, and I have to highlight their lemon pepper wings--perfectly fried with a super crisp crust. Dip them in the cilantro ponzu and it's honestly heavenly. I ordered the tom yum veggie soup and added dumplings and lamb for protein. A splash of that cilantro ponzu in the broth took it to another level. I was a little worried everything would take a long time to cook, but the broth arrives hot and comes to a boil quickly, so everything was ready faster than expected. Service was a bit slow during my visit, but it felt like our server might have just been having an off day. The food and overall experience still made it completely worth it. This was my first visit, and definitely the first of many to come. Shabu Shack won me over.

I've rated this place 5 stars already but they've recently added a sauce bar which now makes this a SIX STAR experience. They also gave me a side of veggies on top of my vegetarian platter!! SO MANY VEGGIES. Our go to broth is the Sichuan and the creamy vegetarian but have also enjoyed the tom yum, tonkotsu, and miso broth. The service is prompt and efficient, you get the broth really quick. And the ambiance is great with a lot of cool Asian art and murals and great tunes!

Delicious!!! Meat had an incredible selection of melting delicacies when cooked medium rare (don't overcooked!). Food was ecstatically incredible and every bite was savory to say the least! Parking is easy with a parking structure right around the corner (no validation). Ambience was classy and is a great date spot or even for celebrations. Service was great with friendly and attentive servers. Bathroom gets tricky with their codes, but understandably so being located in downtown Sacramento to ward off non-customers. Excellent shabu spot in the heart of Sacramento. Highly recommended!

Came here for dinner a couple of times, the first time I ordered the rainbow roll ($15) which is my barometer for sushi at restaurants. Decently sized, the fish was fresh and the roll was filling. Daughter ordered the ramen ($18) with the red option, which she enjoyed with the plethora of toppings. Dinner the second time, I got the teishoku set with salmon ($21). Two decently filets of salmon came with rice, miso soup, salad, deep fried egg roll and salad. You also get a choice of either croquette or chawanmushi. The chawanmushi was a highlight for me! Double Toro roll 8/10 - my date loved it, I'm just not a big roll fan Spicy scallop hand roll 9/10 - super delicious, scallops were fresh Unagi hand roll - 10/10 - I didn't even get to try it, my date loved it Tuna maki roll - 10/10 - simple, delicious We will definitely be coming back. I will say my only note is that we ordered the appetizers first and actually waited to order our mains in hopes that the appetizers would come out first. Instead my mains came out before the appetizers and then my dates came after the appetizers came out. Everything was delicious but I hope that isn't a common habit as it made the meal feel a bit rushed and the waitresses were commenting about how much we ordered and if we could eat it all... everyone was very nice though. A little cold in the actual restaurant but makes sense to keep the fish cold.

That said, I recently experienced what can only be described as the Great Poke Bowl Standoff of 2026. I came in hungry, emotionally vulnerable, and fully prepared to hemorrhage money in exchange for the very simple concept of "fish on rice with some sides." I asked the hostess if they could make some kind of makeshift poke bowl. Nothing wild. No reinvention of Japanese cuisine. Just high end sushi ingredients, but in bowl formation. She said no. Not "let me check." Not "we can't do poke, but maybe this dish is close." Just a firm, immovable no, as if I had requested that the chef perform surgery on a tuna while I watched. I tried to explain that I did not have a price limit. I was willing to pay a truly unreasonable amount of money for rice, fish, and happiness. Still no. She appeared determined to defend the restaurant from my dangerous plan to purchase food from it. At that point, this review was hovering dangerously close to one star. Then Damien appeared. Damien, a waiter and apparently the voice of reason, saw my confusion and calmly explained that they actually had a dish that was basically exactly what I wanted, but the fish just wasn't cut into cubes. He helped me add sides they already had, like seaweed salad, ikura, and unagi, and within minutes I had my beautiful makeshift sushi/poke bowl. Damien saved the meal, the review, and possibly my faith in restaurant diplomacy. So, five stars for the food, the ambiance, and Damien! The sushi is excellent, and we'll absolutely be back. BUT if the owner is reading this: when a hungry customer walks in offering to dramatically overpay for a very simple bowl of existing ingredients, maybe train the staff to say, "We can do something close," or even, "Sure, but there's a $100 convenience surcharge." Honestly, I would have paid it happily. Great restaurant. Great food. Damien is a hero. The poke gatekeeping by the hostess, however, almost kept us from coming back.

*** Vegetarian Review ***…read more Would I come back? Yes, friendly service. They can accommodate their broths for vegetarians. If you can handle it, always ask for a medium spice level. Tips for first-timers: 1) Plenty of free parking 2) They accept reservations The Food: Vegetable Tempura ($18.95, Grade A): I like how they cut the vegetables--not too chunky. There is nothing worse than a chunky carrot that isn't cooked to its core. The tempura batter doesn't pull off when you bite into it, and it isn't oily at all. Yasai Ramen ($17.95, Grade A): Asked for a water broth to make this safe and vegetarian-friendly. You would think it would be tasteless, but it was surprisingly packed with flavor. The medium spice level definitely helped, but even for people sensitive to heat, this would be a tasty dish. It says water-based, but it still has a deep, eye-appealing dark color. The noodles have a great bite. Not overly mushy. And they stay that way for the entire meal. Broccoli, zucchini, bean sprouts, wood ear mushrooms, and cabbage. The cubed tofu is fresh and wasn't spoiled which often happens with tofu in restaurants that a lot of people don't order daily. Jungle Roll ($14.95, Grade A): Avocado and cucumber, topped with a seaweed salad. Most Japanese restaurants fail to understand that vegetarians also want a fun roll! We asked if they could include a vegetable tempura inside the roll so there would be a good textural component, and added a drizzle of teriyaki and spicy mayo. Good news--they were able to do it, though having to check with the sushi bar is always an adventure ($1 extra for each request). Sidenote: Why do all Japanese restaurants need to ask the sushi bar? One-hundred percent of the time, we eagerly have to wait for the sushi police to give a rolling. The rolls are made fresh and many meat-based rolls include a tempura element rolled inside. I could understand if we're asking to deep fry the roll, but just adding a tempura and a drizzled sauce? Ok, hopping off my soapbox. Bottom Line We've been coming to this place on and off for over ten years. It's been at least 2 years since our last visit, and there are some noticeable changes. Portions are smaller; the ramen bowls used to be the size of a food challenge. The restaurant itself is looking older and not quite as cared for, but the flavors remain excellent and the friendly, attentive service is completely unchanged.

There's security cameras in this room. Go review the footage and you can see the proof that we all paid and the waitress took the trays." Apparently the security cameras weren't functioning as he wouldn't look at the footage. The manager wanted to charge the missing payment to the person who used a charge card for her payment and the group told him that was not acceptable. The dispute went on for 30 minutes and customers at a near by table kept turning around and looking at us. The manager stepped away again and returned shortly with the missing payment saying that he found it under the cash register! There was no true apology, no effort to compensate the group for the embarrassing behavior and accusations. Clearly it was the waitress' mistake and she didn't apologize to the group. This is unacceptable behavior from the manager. Knowing this happened yesterday, I will no longer dine at Akebono. Very poor customer service.

If you're looking for a sushi spot that balances elevated cuisine with cozy, heartfelt hospitality,…read moreKumi Sushi is the one. It's the kind of place that quietly becomes your favorite before you've even finished your first dish. ‍ Service That Feels Like Home From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a warm, enthusiastic "Irrashaimase!" The hostess was exceptionally engaging--personable without being overbearing--and guided us through the sake menu like a seasoned sommelier of umami. Her thoughtful recommendations led us to a beautiful tasting journey featuring three types of sake: * A classic hot sake for comfort, * A crisp cold sake imported from Japan, and * A smooth and unexpected bottle from Vernon, CA (yes, Vernon--who knew?). Although the tall glasses were emblazoned with Orion Beer branding, we stuck to the sake. No regrets. What We Ate -- A Love Letter to Flavor Every dish was visually stunning and bursting with freshness. Here's what we devoured: * Truffle Hamachi Carpaccio: Thin slices of hamachi bathed in a rich truffle soy, topped with microgreens and salmon roe. Silky, aromatic, and sublime. * Shishito Peppers: Perfectly blistered and dusted with spice. A simple dish that delivered big on smoky flavor. * Sake Nigiri & Tobiko Gunkan: The sake (salmon) nigiri was melt-in-your-mouth fresh, and the tobiko gunkan had just the right briny pop. Clean, classic, perfect. * Negihama Roll: Yellowtail and scallion in delicate harmony--refreshing and elegant. * Spicy Tuna Roll: A fiery flavor bomb, dusted generously with shichimi. Spicy but well-balanced. * Jade Roll: Wrapped in seaweed salad and sesame, this one was fresh, crunchy, and full of herbaceous notes. A standout roll. * Cucumber Sunomono: A palate cleanser and a beautiful contrast to the richness of the fish. Light, crunchy, and seasoned just right with sesame. Ambiance Kumi Sushi's atmosphere is refined but intimate--dim lighting, soft jazz playing in the background, and warm wood tones throughout. It's got date-night vibes without trying too hard. Final Verdict Kumi Sushi is everything you want in a neighborhood sushi spot--just elevated. Thoughtful service, stunning presentation, fresh ingredients, and a sake list that deserves its own night. Whether you're a seasoned sushi snob or just looking for a delicious evening out, this place delivers. 11/10 would truffle hamachi myself into oblivion again. Highly recommended.

The chicken karaage was very juicy, and both me and my kid really liked it. We also ordered oysters, salmon sashimi, camila roll, and phoenix roll. Everything tasted very good. The camila roll was a little bit dry, and I think it would be better with a little more sauce. The service was fast and very welcoming. We will definitely come back again.

We got seated immediately but it took a while to get our order in. We started with the uni pasta to share, which came out relatively quickly. The pasta was well coated and tasted great, but portion seemed a bit small compared to other photos posted. We both opted for the chef's nigiri omakase that ended up being $65 each. The nigiri pieces were big and flavorful with a beautiful presentation. Slightly on the higher end compared to other sushi restaurants I've been to. Found out they do offer an omakase dining experience for $195 per person but reservations are required. Overall, food was great. Wait staff were very busy, so service was a bit slow. Definitely worth a visit.

There is a designated parking lot across the street, so it's easy to grab a spot and walk over. Just be careful because the parking spots in the lot aren't well marked and it's easiest to just park neatly next to other cars. We like to sit at the bar if there's just two of us, and will grab a table when we have friends. If you want to make sure you have a table, you can make a reservation ahead of time, but we usually don't need to wait too long. Our favorites are the brussel sprouts, karaage chicken, and their nigiri. We also really enjoy the sukiyaki, it's really flavorful and perfect for cooler or rainy weather. We still need to come by for brunch, but we've heard good things. The team here is always friendly, and we've been in enough that some of them recognize us now.
