Another TikTok try. Overall, I was very satisfied with the empanadas. I picked up about a dozen for the staff and they also gave great reviews. We tried the Beef, Sausage, Cuban, Chicken. My favorite was the beef and Sausage. The only thing I did not like is that the filling is mixed with potatoes, not it for me. I did have the opportunity to try the Cuban sandwich, which was just average for me at that price. They tried to "glam" it up and I felt they lost the flavor and texture of a basic sandwich! My husband and I woke up on a beautiful Sunday morning and decided to go and try the latest Instagram famous bakery OBRA!!! Well first let me pre-warn you that there will be a line, that's how popular this place is. Now, let's get down to the nitty-gritty of if it's worth standing in line. By the time we got to the counter, there were quite a few items that were sold out, but there were still enough options that we were satisfied with what we were able to get. We got the potato balls, the jalapeño/beef/chicken empanadas, a pumpkin spice latte, and a chai tea latte. Let's start with the things that were not so great. The empanadas were decent, but nothing to stand in line to get. The outside looks wonderful and has a decent texture but the inside was dry and not filled to bursting as the advertised pictures displayed. The chai latte has a weird taste. Maybe it's just me or maybe its an acquired taste, but the chai latte was a no go for both my husband and I. The potato balls and the pumpkin spice latte was 100% WONDERFUL. Worth standing in line for and were fabulous. They exceed Portos potato balls and drinks 100% I have to return to try some of their baked goods to give this place a proper review but so far this is what I think about OBRA. Oh, and I forgot to tell you that the service is very fast although there's a line the line goes quickly and the servers are very attentive, so although I did not enjoy the the empanadas or the chai tea. I absolutely love empanadas so I was excited to try this place. I came here on a Saturday a few months ago and had originally drove to get brunch at a place in the same strip mall. The brunch place was closed so we found Obra. They had a nice and inviting staff when we walked in. They have all their empanadas on display and even label the popular flavors. This place has more than just empanadas, but since this seemed to be their main staple, we went with the beef and potato, breakfast, cuban, and chicken. The beef and potato was okay. Strong ground beef flavor and thats about it. The breakfast had egg, sausage, bacon, and potatoes, which tastes exactly as you would imagine. My favorites were the cuban and chicken. Its probably because for both of them, the meat tasted flavorful. The cuban had nice spices including garlic and cumin. The chicken had the creamy chili sauce that had a good balance. These empanadas did not come cheap as 4 of them cost me around $20. I love empanadas and these were pretty decent, but I think ill continue to look around for other options. read more

Maybe 6 tables inside and out on the shopping center sidewalk (but there is a heater). Casual. Modern. You'll have to strategize when to come to avoid a line or do takeout. Food - A: Chicken and cheese empanadas were very good and my "tweens" loved them. The sausage empanada IMO was too mushy/potatoey and just wasn't what I imagined but it wasn't nasty. Crust was superior. Chicken Milanese sandwich was also tasty. Fries were delicious and so was the cookie brownie. Service - A: quick and efficient. No issues. Overall - A: Food options are progressive and up-to-date and will leave you wanting to come back and try something new. We will be back! read more

A sort of hole-in-the-wall in this shopping center, not far from CSULB. I was hungry in between classes and didn't want to venture too far and this was great. I had the Chicken Empanada which was very good! Paired with the sort of cilantro dressing, loved it. I also ordered one of the potato balls, that I have been craving for forever, and it was perfection. Would definitely recommend them! My favorite? At best, the three different types of empanadas that I ordered were just average. I also decided to get the tres leches cake for my husband and myself. It turned out to be the worst tres leches I have ever had. How can a cake be dry and wet at the same time? The empanadas had an unimpressive filling, with flavors that did not stand out. Additionally, the dough was slightly dry and not as flaky as I was anticipating. Regarding the tres leches cake, it ended up being a letdown. The cake itself was excessively dry and lacked the moistness that is typically found in a good tres leches cake. A lovely little restaurant off PHC that is just one of those places you can easily pass by. I have eaten at a couple other places in the same shopping center, but truly never saw this Bistro. Luckily a friend suggested having dinner here and yep, found another wonderful place to come back too. We decided to order a few dishes and share them family style. This was perfect for being a first timer. Everything we ordered was great (see pictures), but the best thing was the veggie open-faced sandwich. However I ordered a large Tres Leches cake recently and was severely disappointed. The cake had no liquid besides in the middle. The entire outside of the cake was just dry cake. And they give you the cake in a container that does not close which they communicate with you when giving you the cake. Why not order larger containers? The lid was squished on the whipped cream on top and still couldn't be closed. It was for my fathers birthday dinner and guests. It wasn't ate. And I will not be ordering this cake again. Thought I would check out this spot since I am a sucker for any kind of hand-held food that included carbs. I stopped by early on a Saturday morning since I know local breakfast spots tend to fill up fast around here on the weekend. In my little box I got two small containers of salsa and creamy dip(I didn't try that one... sorry). The green salsa added a little punch of flavor. The banana/nutella, sadly, was a disappointment. Big hunk of banana and minimal nutella. Thankfully I grabbed one of the yummy chocolate pastries to satisfy a bit of a sweet tooth. The chocolate cigars are layer upon layer of doughy chocolate-ness. I spent about $20 for small coffee, 3 empanadas and 1 pastry. They sell seasonal tamales, and currently have a deal for 2 free empanadas with every dozen. I think these empanadas would be a good addition to a weekend brunch. You can order ahead to make sure that you get what you want. Overall it was pretty good, but just didn't make my tummy 'sing'. If you're like me, you may find that this place is good, but not a place you'll frequent regularly. While the empanadas are tasty, they tend to be overly filling for the small size. They'll be finished in about 4/5 bites. I think they're a good heavy snack-- they don't feel like a satisfactory meal on their own, but you'll end up pretty full with 2. ...But to each their own. OBRA also had pastries that looked good. I'll have to try next time. It would've been overkill to get pastries on top of empanadas. I believe they also have food options too. To their credit Service was speedy especially considering it was a busy Saturday brunch time. Plan to carry out as the place is small and busy. Def a busy bakery vibe, not a cafe vibe. Fantastic! I showed up 30 min before closing and received the best service. A dairy free mocha was prepared for me since I ordered the veggie, vegan and jalapeño empanadas along with 2 of everything else. The veggie empanada is everything an empanada could be and to my surprise the actual dough for all the empanadas are all vegan. I can eat these all day long. There's something sweet for dessert if you have a sweet tooth. The beef empanadas were filled with savory beef and fluffy potatoes! It has a nice kick that's not overwhelming. The sauce gives the empanada a nice mustard tang that really elevates the flavor. The dough has the perfect ratio to filling.  It's buttery, not too thick and the edges have a nice crispy flaky crust. The potato ball is fried with a crispy breading and a layer of moist mashed potato with a onion-y, cilantro-y beef and cheese filling.  I wish there was a little more filling but nonetheless super yummy. I ate the potato ball with the green sauce and man it's so good.  The green sauce has a nice citrus flavor that lightens up the fried potato ball.  It's a great combination. For dessert I chose the fruit tart. Flaky crust, fresh fruit, creamy custard presented beautifully. I ended up purchasing a variety of empanadas but have tried them yet since I just bought them an hour ago! As for the service, the woman helping me was very sweet.  She was helpful and just seemed really excited to see us!  Any place with great service is a plus for me.  I would recommend my family and friends to visit this bakery.  I'll definitely be coming back. read more
