I ordered a cake tasting box from them for pickup and when I went to pick it up the shop was closed because of an error in their hours on their website. There was no effort to let people know the hours have changed, just closed for the day with zero warning. We've now been going back and forth with them, Jamie in particular, for a refund because at this rate we do not want to work with them for our wedding. I came across Love + Flour's booth at Snowport in Boston, so this review is for their baked goods…read moreand not the physical location. But now that I know they're in Salem, I'll be visiting very soon! The macarons were front and center in the booth, and I kept goggling at how beautiful they were. They are slightly larger macarons with generous fillings and bejeweled shells ($3.75 each). I asked the person manning the booth what her favorites were (sugar cookie and cookie dough), but I still had trouble deciding which to try, there were so many unique flavors. She was very helpful though. Macarons are generally gluten free, but some flavors had cookie or cake crumbs and were labeled as containing gluten (fyi all served in the same case). These macarons were certainly not dairy free, but I decided to try them anyways; they were way too tempting. The Tall Man and I ended up getting a guava and a gingerbread macaron. His dad got a pistachio and a cosmic brownie (typical brownie vs the peppermint version). If I had known he was going to get some, it would have made more sense to get a half dozen. Macarons aren't cheap cookies, but they were certainly worth it. The guava was the plainest in appearance and taste. It wasn't decorated, and only the shell was flavored not the cream; it was too subtle and could have used a jam. The gingerbread was my favorite of our choices, spicy and not overly sweet with a nice textural crunch with the mini gingerbread sprinkles. The cosmic brownie had fun chunky sprinkles and a very fudgy texture, which was more brownie than macaron like (probably intentionally), but the taste was like a typical brownie so I would get something different next time. I didn't get to try the pistachio, but my father in law enjoyed it, and he doesn't even like cookies. Everything on display was beautifully fun to look at. I was also intrigued by their hot chocolate bombs and cake jars, but more as eye candy since they were full of gluten and dairy (but would make for great gifts!).

It's been awhile since I've posted a yelp review, but I absolutely had to give Michael's 5 stars. I…read morecalled him on a Thursday morning asking if he could do a dozen lemon cupcakes for my son's first birthday and have them ready by Saturday - a real last minute order. He said he wouldn't have time to add custom decorations, but I had an idea and had him frost 11 in green and 1 in red. When I picked them up on Saturday, he added two cookies to the box. I also ordered a meat pie and a kofta wrap and while I was waiting, he gave me two pieces of warm baklava, fresh from the oven! Absolutely delicious. When everything was ready, he carried it out to my car for me, since I had the stroller. He's such a kind man. And oh my gosh... possibly the best cupcakes I've ever had. The frosting was light and more buttery than sweet. I usually take the frosting off of cupcakes but I didn't this time because it was just too good. The lemon curd center was tangy and just the right level of sweetness. I will return to Michael's for every birthday/anniversary/party from now on. Oh and that meat pie is going to live in my brain forever. So aromatic and delicious... I got it for my husband but had eaten half of it by the time I got home. Whoops!

It's confusing why this place has such low ratings. I get that the items in the market can be…read morepricey, but they are primarily imported from Italy and a good quality (like Locatelli cheese & taralli crackers). They also have interesting items like filled gnocchi. I've been a couple of times now and had a very good brunch with my family. My breakfast pizza (without prosciutto to make it vegetarian) was excellent! It has cheese, spinach, hollaindaise sauce and a runny egg, with a nice chewy crust. I ate the whole thing which was very filling and I easily could have taken half home (it's pretty messy so more of a fork and knife deal). I've also had a vegetarian kale salad with chickpeas candied walnuts cranberries & cheese. I also got a side of roasted sweet potatoes. One person's eggs Benedict was a little overcooked, but others liked the frittata, the HUGE chicken parm (with a whole ball of burrata on top), and sandwiches on focaccia (my husband couldn't even finish half of the Salumeria). I also noted the bread that comes w/the hummus & ciabatta loaves looked great. The chocolate espresso cake and the apple crumb bar from the bakery were pretty good. We got the sfogliatella to go, which wasn't crunchy on the outside sadly (maybe it wasn't fresh?), but had a nice citrus ricotta filling and wasn't too sweet.the nitro cold brew was too strong for me, but the iced Americano was good. The Semolina raisin bread that they use for French toast wasn't for me. The classes offered sound interesting (like pasta alla Norma) and are reasonably priced. There is cute inside & outside seating with live music on Saturday for brunch (it can get a bit loud). They don't currently take reservations. The shops nearby are nice too!
