Disgusting experience with the owner, Brian, extremely rude and has no professionalism. Vulgar mouth & passive aggressive towards customers when he made the wrong cake, stuff happens tried to purchase a different one and was told to get out and purchase a market basket one. My first visit to this bakery was well worth my time. I wanted a special birthday cake for my wife. I inquired about a German chocolate cake which I knew was one of her favorites. I wanted a traditional layered chocolate cake filled and topped with a pecan, coconut frosting. The result was absolutely wonderful. The cake was both decadent and scrumptious. They never called, and each time I called back and spoke with the lady, she told me she's still busy hours later. Owner told me he's busy and I'm now taking up his time on that 4th call. Going elsewhere, which is a good thing considering they're overpriced for what you're getting anyways. It's unfortunate but I will be taking my hard-earned money elsewhere when it comes to my bakery needs. This was the 3rd cake I have ordered from @Sugar&SpiceBakeShoppe and it will be my last. The owner/baker whomever "he" is was so incredibly rude to me over the phone it was appalling unnecessary, unprofessional and all the reviews that came before mine all resonated with me, and I can confirm that this guy is a complete jerk who apparently lacks customer service skills or even common courtesy as an "owner" in that establishment. Not from my wallet, never again there are plenty of bake shops that will happily make my cakes each year and it won't be this guy. Save your aggravation. read more

I like that this bakery is open late. First time I tried the caramel cake slice which is soo good. It's one layer of vanilla and one of chocolate with a light frosting and a dark layer of caramel on top. I also got a red velvet which unfortunately was stale by the next day. The second time I tried the key lime bomb and the boston creme cupcake. Both were a disappointment. The key lime did not have enough flavor. It could have really used a lime curd. Instead it was more a white cake with frosting and coconut. The cake part was heavy. Not sure why because the white cake on the caramel melts in your mouth. It also had a very thin layer of frosting and then a hard shell of chocolate on top. Will go back for the caramel slice and to try other flavors. Customer service was great. They do not sell their cookies individually not sure of the reasoning behind that. read more

This is our primary bakery for special occasion cakes and goodies. We have had many special cakes from Sugar and Spice and have never been disappointed. Their Strawberry Shortcake cake, our go to cake, is exceptional. But we have had other cakes including their Tiramisu, Chocolate Mousse, Chocolate Peanut Butter, and others. And we have even had them bake us cheese cakes even though they are not on the menu. All were fantastic. Today, for my wife's birthday, we tried their Swiss Roll. It looked and tasted awesome. I will NEVER go back there and he's not the type to care about losing business for an being arrogant jerk. But there are a number of fabulous bakeries in the area so I'll go elsewhere. Came here on a Friday afternoon and the staff told me that I came at a right time because they usually started to stock cakes up to prepare for the busy weekends. The staff was patient and as he introduced all the flavors to me even though I was having difficult time to pick one. I have ordered a Boston Cream Pie Cake at last and it's tasty! I especially like it not that sweet intense and the cream was delicious with the vanilla sponge. The baker fit the long word "Congratulations" on the small size cake and even put a "ring" on after I told him I bought it to celebrate my friends' engagement. So conflicted on this one! On the one hand the cakes are incredibly delicious. Their buttercream cannot be beat. The bad news: The owner of this place has to be the most rude arrogant human being ever born. He was so awful when I called to place my order last week that I almost hung up. He would ask me a question and when I tried to reply he would forcefully say "NO!" At one point I went completely silent after he said it, and he then rambled on about why he couldn't do what I had asked for. Had I not been in a pinch (had to plan a party in 1 week) I would have told him what to do with his cake! When I picked up the cake they couldn't find it and he told me that they are very busy at this time of year. No apology just more rudeness. It took about 10 minutes to find my cake and I was in a panic. Also the color I requested was incorrect. It was a very pale pastel color rather than the deep shade requested. Now I do understand that this is an extremely busy time of year but that cannot excuse being rude to customers wiling to spend $80 on a 12" cake. So although this has been a go-to bakery for my special occasions over the past 10 years, I think it's time to break up. There are great bakeries on every corner these days so I'm going to look around. This conceited jerk lost my business. read more

As you walk in you see a "People love us on Yelp" The location is right on a major highway so it's a bit dangerous to pull into the parking lot on the left side. May not seem like they have parking but they do. These is a large sign that says they have the best cannoli this side of the North End The gentlemen who was working that day seemed nice but I can get the vibe we're people say he's unpleasant. So walking in I had the Seinfeld episode of the soup Nazi on my mind. I went info a cupcake but got a cannoli with chocolate chips instead. The cannoli was ice cold as they most likely fill them a day or two in advance. I say this as biting into the cannoli it was cold and soggy. Maybe soggy is not the right word but the cannoli didn't have the bit or crunch I was looking for. It didn't taste much better either. 2 Stars for having a sweet shop and 1 star for being nice and no yelling at me. read more

I got a cannoli today and the filling was both bland and did not completely fill the shell. There was a large air gap from one end to another. The shell was good. My wife got the coconut moose cake and absolutely loved it. Fresh and delicious. Got a German chocolate cake last week and it was fantastic. Their cookies were not so hot. CUPCAKE ONLY REVIEW: Mr. Brian Costa has a very nice shoppe with all sorts of colorful Italian cookies, pastries and beautifully decorated gourmet cakes. As per usual, I continue my mission for the perfect vanilla/vanilla cuppy. I'm at love/hate on this one. I really WANT to love it... At the very reasonable price of $1.50, I received a handsomely sized cupcake with chocolate drizzled on top and edible confetti bits sprinkled about. This cuppy yells "eat me, for I will bring you joy" based upon its looks. With a 75/25 cake/frosting ratio and quite a bit of cake exposure when viewing it from the top, I definitely bit into the cake first. A sad frown crossed my face as I thought that it tasted too close to box mix for comfort. Quite a bit of density. It wasn't dry, but not moist either. Sorta like, one more day of air exposure and we're toast. Very very light vanilla flavor here. I thought the frosting wouldn't be much more of an addition. Interestingly enough, I got the surprise "crystalline" effect - that mouth feel where it has set just enough to be firm on the initial bite, but then dissolves like magical sugar crystals on the tongue. I love that. Only problem was the vanilla product didn't seem like stellar top notch. So close! However, overall the frosting and cake do work as a whole. I'd give 'em a whirl for some of the other tasty looking treats. read more

Twice I called and asked for birthday cakes the morning I needed the cake and they were able to make them by the time I needed them. Such great personable customer service! The cakes were both white with a layered strawberry mousse frosting and were topped with a ring of large delicious whole strawberries- beautiful! My son says it's the best cake he ever had. The price is comparable to other bakeries- not cheap. We always get our cakes from the grocery store at about 1/2 of the price here- but you definitely get what you pay for. I walked in looking for a cake needed for that night. The many options available are great as I didn't have to choose from. Either just chocolate or vanilla like you would in a grocery store. I had wanted either something light with fruit or a coconut cake as those are my friends favorite types. They sell coconut by half sheets or by slice so had to go with a beautiful strawberry cream cake. It was amazing as every cake I have bought here is! Cake was so moist and light and filled with a lot of strawberries and nice light whipped cream not too sweet but just right! Everyone devoured it! It was a beautiful presentation with nice big whole strawberries on top, my friend used them as a guild line to cut slices and they were large slices! Lol the strawberries on top where just as fresh as the ones on the inside too, you don't always find a nice strawberry cream cake with nice fresh strawberries, just goes to show quality of the work here and the pride they take in making these cakes! On a side note, I couldn't pass up grabbing a slice of coconut cake too as it is my favorite cake ever! The next day I got to try it and was blown away!! I can't find good coconut cake around here and this one was amazing! It was covered in coconut over the frosting which wasn't overly sweet but just right, had such a moist cake with some type of pudding/custard in middle which just sent this cake lover into heaven! It left me wanting more as I took my last bite! If they had this cake in small rounds I probably would be 600 pounds, as I know I would buy one each week and eat it all on my own! If I could give them 10 stars for these 2 cakes I would as everyone was blown away by the strawberry cream cake and 2 of the 6 are not even cake eaters and they wanted more cake! My friends husband is such a foodie he said it was probably best strawberry cream cake he has had, that's a lot for him to say. This man and his team work hard. I know it isn't easy moving, and he has stepped up his game in his "old" location to make sure that his quality is there. I couldn't stay away. His stuff is superior. I'm holding off on one star until he's in his new digs. I hope to add it back once we see how he is doing! So far, though, he seems to have gotten it back together in the quality of his wonderful cakes and has stepped up his quality control over the staff when he isn't there.
