This place is usually special order cakes but had a bakery pop-up last weekend so we explored. First, I will say this little store is adorable! Large open working kitchen and cute aesthetic - but as I said it's not usually open to sell individual bakery items. They had many beautiful sweet treats available, cupcakes, cookies, cake pops and some cakes. We bought some cupcakes and macarons to sample. The macarons were among the best I've ever had. Perfectly light crisp exterior and tender sweet cookie with delightful fillings! I will dream of these! Especially loved the strawberry. The cupcakes varied to my taste but I loved the mini cinnamon roll cupcake which was still warm and covered in silky cream cheese frosting. The vanilla berry cake was not terribly flavorful. Needed a little more berry for me. Haven't tried the German chocolate yet but looking forward to it. The owner bent over backwards to help us and described every item! Shara made our beautiful 3 tiered cake for our wedding at Zorvino Vineyard in 2006. We were Zorvino's 2nd wedding ever, and Shara was referred to me by another bride to be on theknot.com. She had just opened her own business, running it from her home kitchen. We were able to visit her there, where she served us the most amazing and delicious cake samples you could imagine. And every detail we asked for was attended to and delivered flawlessly on our big day. Over the years, she had made us cakes for special events in our family, and always - always - her expertise and gracious nature has shone through. Our cake was included through our venue, Birchwood Vineyards, and we were given the choice between Chickadee and another bakery. Chickadee was the clear choice from the start -- and they exceeded every expectation we had (even the expectations I didn't realize I could have). To be completely honest... cake was the very last thing on my wedding priority list. I've never liked cake -- my entire life -- and I walked into our tasting fully prepared to let my fiancé handle the decisions because she's the one with the sweet tooth. But from the second we walked in, Chickadee changed that for me. The tasting itself felt like a sweet little date night: private, warm, fun, and surprisingly plentiful. I couldn't believe how many flavors we got to try or how genuinely delicious everything was. I actually fell in love with their tri-color cheesecake (it was incredible!), and even though we ultimately didn't choose it because of the upcharge and how niche cheesecake can be for guests, it was worth every penny they asked for. We ended up selecting carrot cake and tiramisu for our tiers, but truthfully, picking anything was hard because everything -- even the "simple" flavors like cookies & cream and strawberries & cream -- had so much depth and richness. For someone who doesn't "like cake," I found myself enjoying every bite in total disbelief. The design process was just as seamless. Our venue has naturally beautiful, minimalist décor, so we chose a classic white frosting with a gold drip on each tier, with florals coordinated to our wedding colors. We added our own gold wire silhouette topper from an Etsy shop in the UK, and when it all came together... it was breathtaking. Multiple guests commented that they thought it wasn't even a real cake because it looked so flawless and artistic. It was elegant, clean, romantic -- everything we wanted and more. The flavors on the wedding day were absolutely spot-on, and guests raved about how fantastic the cake was. Chickadee's communication throughout the whole process was excellent, and on the wedding day their delivery was so smooth and punctual that we never even saw them arrive or leave -- they were stealthy pros in the best way. As an FYI (not a con at all, just helpful info): we have several celiacs in the family, and Chickadee did offer gluten-free cupcakes in basic flavors, sold by the dozen. We ultimately chose to bring a separate small gluten-free cake so our family members could have a "true cake" experience -- but we appreciated that Chickadee offered an accessible alternative. If I ever need a cake for another special event, I wouldn't even think twice -- Chickadee Hill Cakes will always be my first choice. Chickadee Hill Cakes did an amazing job making my son's 16th birthday cake, a rock climbing cake with a climber attached to the cake. I am not a touchy-feely person at all. I don't usually bother to leave reviews, but their service deserves 5 star rating and more. My son attends a boarding school far away from home, and his 16th birthday was coming up. I was searching for a bakery who would not mind delivering a cake to his school. Chickadee Hill Cakes was super nice to accommodate our needs as needed some coordination with a school dorm advisor. I appreciate not only their great service but also their CAKE... the CAKE was an amazing art piece. They went above and beyond creating this art piece -- The rock climbing cake was far better than what I captured/provided to them from Pinterest, and the climber shown in the photo has an exact t-shirt, shorts, tights, and shoes that my kid had on in the reference photo. All the details down to wrinkles on the pants... everything about this cake was just so impressive. And, further, this climber figure had such a vivid face expression with multi-colored eyes. We recently hired Chickadee Hill Cakes for our October wedding and if there is a question about who you should go with - go with Chickadee Hill Cakes! No question! We live a distance from the store so we were unable to meet with the staff directly for a tasting and to come up with a design. The staff understood and had us pick out a few designs we liked. We forwarded our favorites, along with an image of our invitation and from there they whipped up an AMAZING design. We were able to have two kinds of cake with two kinds of frosting and we had literally the best wedding cake I have ever had! As the bride I am a little biased but we had over half of our wedding guests on the ride from the reception to the hotel tell us that it was absolutely the best cake they had ever had. We had some boxed up for the "after-party" but unfortunately it never made it since we descended on it during the bus ride back. The staff was also kind enough to accommodate a groom's cake that was done as a surprise for my husband as a memorial for his father who passed away a few years ago. I was very picky while hunting for a bakery to create cakes for our wedding in April of 2015. Since we decided to have several cakes (4, to be exact) and that they would be centerpieces, we really wanted them to be works of art. No offense to large bakeries, but they just pump out large volumes of baked goods and it shows in the craftsmanship. I found pictures of designs that we really liked on Pinterest, of course, and brought them to our tasting. A friend recommended Chickadee Hill to me, as I was looking for something special for my niece's 13th birthday. She and her family came to visit from out of town, on short notice, so I didn't know if I could get a cake in time that wasn't from a grocery store, as they usually like about four weeks lead time for specialty cakes. I took a chance and asked anyway; a small 6" with an equestrian theme. They said yes (yay!) and could fit it in between wedding cakes that weekend. We just went with a chocolate fudge cake (four layers of decadence!) with chocolate Italian buttercream icing between and vanilla outside. Left the decoration up to their artistic bent. Simple silhouette of a horsehead, with blue fondant polka dots all over and a lovely rope twist around the horsehead. It looked fabulous and tasted even better. I didn't think $45 to be excessive at all for their skill, creativity and customer service. Actually a shame to cut into it, but you can only deny yourself the pleasure for so long. If I could give them a 0 I would. I called to book a tasting for my wedding in 2015 and she refused to schedule us until November. My venue doesn't have any availability for 2014 which is why we need to wait until 2015. I am a SUPER planner and like to have everything planned in advance, however she laughed at me and said "well we have that date open for sure." I told her that Jacques pastries had scheduled us a tasting for this weekend and that if she couldn't book us earlier that e would just go with them and she said okay bye.
