Alright, you got me on board - I'm a fan! I finally got around to making a return trip for some sweet cuppies by Erin. They were FANTASTIC! Momdukes was with me, so I bought her an Almondless Joy. I got a report back from her today that she really enjoyed the flaky coconut topping. After viewing a gorgeous FB pic, I knew that I had to try the Pink Lemonade and also picked up a Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. Both were amazingly spot on with flavor and presentation. The day-glo pink cuppy with lemon-yellow frosting and the tiniest pink sprinkles is just charming as all get out. The flavor is a home run reminiscent of that cool refreshing drink on a hot summer day. The CCCD had me perplexed upon observation. Chocolate cake, with dough colored frosting and a few chocolate chips on top. The frosting definitely tasted like cookie dough. The surprise was when I took a whole bite to find a healthy knob of actual cookie dough resting comfortably inside the cake! The combo of these elements together makes for a WHOP-BAM-BOOM EXPLOSION in your mouth! ....and Erin just sits calmly in the corner, in the zone...diligently whipping up another taste sensation. No mini tour of Haverhill is complete without a stop here. Since it was before Christmas and I was going to my cousins for the Eve, I came here to pick up some cupcakes. I doubled up on the oreo, almond joy and cider donut because you know not all 12 of those cupcakes are making it to my cousins house :) I also picked up a gingerbread, triple chocolate, cookie dough, snickerdoodle, samoa, and red velvet. I ordered a cake for a friend's baby shower. Everyone loved it! My only issues were that the Mom-to-Be's name was spelled incorrectly and there were multiple starfish on the cake. I went over both more than once: spelled the parents names twice and said at least 3 times that I don't like starfish so I didn't want any on the cake. But those things were minor considering how beautiful the cake looked and how great everyone said is tasted. The designer got the perfect shades of bright colors and it was the flavor that I requested. And all of this after a last minute order that was very fairly priced. This place was AWESOME the cupcakes were bigger than the first gourmet cupcake place I tried, and they were moister and not as expensive as the place in Somerville. I grabbed two Samoas, two Snickerdoodle, one Almondless Joy, one Margarita, and one Coffee roll. The Damps was great the moist cake complimented by a rich chocolate base then a small skim coat of white frosting with coconut and caramel and chocolate drizzle. The Snickerdoodle had a light frosting on top and that lovely sugary cinnamon taste of the snickerdoodle cookies. I had to write this part now and will revisit after I tackle the rest of the cakes. The Almondless Joy, was a coconut chocolate awesomeness. The Margarita cupcake was really good too, just enough of a hint of lime, but not overpowering, granular sugar on the top of the muffin liken to a rimmed margarita glass, and a straw. At $2.50 a cupcake they were reasonable, I've been to a spot in Somerville the cupckaes were more expensive and no where as tasty. They do take credit cards too! read more

We got our wedding and grooms cake from here and they were awesome! The grooms cake was in the shape of a firetruck. The hose from the firetruck wound up and around the wedding cake. We went pictures of the truck my husband drives to the shop and they made it look exactly like it! It looked so great everyone initially thought it was a toy not a cake! I stopped here one day when in need of a sugar fix. First I was a bit taken aback by the inside. It felt a little gloomy , black and dirty. But never one to judge a book by its cover I decided to try out a few cupcakes. Well first I thought 2.50 was a bit pricey for a tiny little cupcake. Secondly ..it had a very " made from the box" taste. All in all i found my first and last experience at Erin's a let down. I have seen her cakes and WOW I am impressed. She is a true artist, but much like the cake boss, although they are beautiful and expensive works of art. I think I would prefer a cake I can eat. My husband and i, weren't impressed with our wedding cake decor. We had 2 cake idea's... after discussing, in detail we went with a much more expensive style. (We wanted a 2 tier- mulit-tone gray colored cake, gold detail along the trim of the cake with a big gold S, with some burgundy flowers). We got: a werid white colored cake, with 'some' so called flowers attached. We were expecting this extraordinary cake. It didn't come close!! The cake was the biggest disappointment on our wedding day, especially since we paid extra for a certain style... which we didnt get. With that being said, the cake it's self was delicious. However Im very upset with the design/ color of our cake. I paid $483.00!!!! for a gross colored white cake with bare minimum on it. I was ripped off on my 'wedding cake'! Let me say that again... 2 tier White cake (supposed to be 2 tone gray), 2 sad flowers decor, and very little gold detail. That fed 40 people = $ 483.00 ! Wow, it's been over a year since I've updated my CBE review? Bad Frannie! Part of the reason is because I've been so busy with school. I recently graduated with my 2 year degree and decided to celebrate by throwing myself a party. What better way to celebrate a graduation (or anything) than with a CBE cake?? Now they all know how I love their macaroon cupcakes so the ladies baked me up a special cake with a coconut macaroon and ganache in the middle. I went very basic with the frosting (being a college student doesn't leave you lots of spare cash) but everyone still raved about the lovely decorating. After seeing all of the delicious cakes and cupcakes on Facebook - I had to try this place out. I drove by the location twice before I finally spotted it because the signage is not very good. Also, the parking lot is tiny and I wasn't sure where to leave my car without blocking someone. I bought four cupcakes - two French Toast and two Samoa. The Samoa cupcakes are one of the best things to ever be in my mouth ever. I'm a big fan of the cookie (although they are not as good as they used to be - like everything in life). I didn't like the French Toast as much but my wife enjoyed them. They had bacon sprinkled on them which we had to scrape off because we are vegetarians. Hidden within a small and unassuming building at a random location in Haverhill, Cakes by Erin is certainly a gem of the city. My mom brought me here during my winter break from college, and I was expecting nothing special - to be honest, I was expecting a little store trying to be gourmet and trendy. Gosh, was I wrong. Our cupcakes were dessert perfection. The cake itself was fluffy, moist, and flavorful; the frosting was not overwhelming (as some unfortunate cupcake frostings so often are). The choices ranged from a wide array of drink-themed delights, such as mimosa and pineapple cranberry cosmopolitan, to gluten free and vegan choices. However, it seems like cupcakes aren't even their specialty! Cakes by Erin competed in a Season 8 Food Network Challenge, making them pretty legit in my eyes, and the photos of their cake designs wowed me even further. I don't have any upcoming events or occasions as an excuse to get an extravagant cake from this place, but I definitely wish I did. I go here a lot to get a sugar craving fix. They have cupcakes, cookies, scones and muffins that you can buy a la carte, and you can also order cupcakes and cakes in advance. (I have never pre-ordered, only bought a la carte, so I cannot rate that experience.) Pros- -Cupcakes have always been moist. -Frosting isn't too sugary. I tend not to like most frostings but find myself eating every bit on all the cupcakes we've ever purchased here. -I've tried every flavor of scone they offer here so far, and they've all been great. My favorite is the blueberry scone. Before eating here I thought I didn't like scones because they were too dry. Now I know I had just never had one that was properly made. -The innovation in their cupcake designs and the cakes I've seen them post on Facebook are really amazing. -Their carrot cake cupcakes are to DIE for. -Every time we've been in the shop, the staff has been polite, friendly and professional. -Clean place. Cute atmosphere. Con- -Their cupcake flavors sometimes are not what they're saying they are. Example- I tried their candy apple cupcake a few weeks ago, and while the cupcake tasted VERY good, it didn't taste anything like a caramel or candy apple. Same with the new banana cupcake they came out with. The frosting had a slight banana taste, and there was a tasty carmelized banana slice on top, but the cupcake itself just tasted like a regular vanilla cupcake. I can only say that the most disappointing thing about CBE is that I discovered them only AFTER moving out of Haverhill!! Still well worth the half hour drive for a special treat. Her cupcakes are simply the best.... I know there's a lot of "cup-cakeries" (as my 4 year old calls them) around, but hers is hands-down the best of the best & I'd drive by a million to get to hers. Never stale, always delicious and creative. I have not ordered a cake from her so I can't attest for those, and it seems "pricy" is a common issue - but I would certainly feel confident ordering from her as I feel that true talent and appreciation for the "art" she does, would be worth it. Their cakes are beautiful and delicious, but their customer service leaves something to be desired. The owner especially is very rude and can not accept their mistakes. We bought several cakes here in the past, driving an hour each way, because it is nut free. Their prices went up with each cake we ordered even though the cakes got smaller. The last cake we got was smaller than what we paid for at time of ordering, it was missing important details we asked for, AND my daughter's name was spelled wrong. They would not apologize or even refund any money - the wrong size was the biggest concern especially since I paid for a larger cake and received smaller. Their fix was to give cupcakes in the same flavor that they had in the case, which wasn't much. Very frustrating because we didn't order cupcakes, we ordered a cake. The owner, Erin, called after we had left and was extremely rude and we have not been back. A beautiful and tasty cake isn't worth it with the attitude that comes with their mistakes. APPLE CIDER DONUT CUPCAKE... ...that should be all I have to say for most people, but seriously, rarely have to react out loud about how good a cupcake is, and if I do, it's serious, and this is one serious cupcake. It has all the best components of the apple cider donut flavor, but is what most donuts are not, moist! I had been searching for a Harry Potter Cake close to the South Shore for a surprise birthday party. No where could do the cake in the time or the price I was hoping for. I had went to a few well known bakeries and wedding cake shops, and showed them a few ideas and gave them free range as long as my theme was clearly present. All of the shops said they would make the cake, but that it would be hundred and hundreds, for just the basics, and I would have to supply the Wand, Owl, Glasses, Scarf, Etc, for my design. I could have gotten a cake from stop & Shop for 30 dollars and grabbed some accessories from Newbury Comics if that was my goal! Anyways, I placed my order with Erin 24 hours ahead of time, and she nailed the cake, as well as accommodating my last minute requests.The cake was made, perfectly, and affordable for everything being edible and sticking with the theme. It was also delicious which was the best part! I had also requested my already rushed order be done a couple hours earlier, due to traffic commuting to Haverhill from South Shore, and although traffic ran me a bit late, Erin did call to say she had finished the cake early and to come pick it up as soon as I could! I gave Cakes By Erin 2 chances and I gave up. Both times, we got cupcakes and several of them were cold in the middle, as if they had been frozen and hadn't quite thawed yet. They LOOKED great, but if I'm going to a bakery and paying bakery prices, I want FRESH, not frozen. A few other friends have had the same experience. It's been a few months that my family has been able to get cakes from here but recently we ordered a cake plus i got a quote for a cake in the future. The prices have almost doubled. I'm not sure if the cost of living in Haverhill has skyrocketed in the last 6 months or so but we were a little shocked to see the usual cake we bought for $35 now cost $56. Also the quote for a future cake was well over what I've paid in the past for similar work, and even over $100 more than some other places I got quoted on. At the end of the day, the cakes are good, thats why I only knocked down one star, byt a little dissapointed with the sudden inflation and they're unwillingness to "make their frosting a little less sweet because its done in a big batch for other cakes. read more
