Twice in past 10 days. First time Sunday around Noon, place pretty full. Alone for a quick and simple breakfast -- eggs, potatoes, toast and bacon. Delicious, bacon extra crispy as ordered. Prompt service by member of family owners. Food out quickly. Days later planned to return for a table of 4 around 11AM. We had french toast, waffle, salad with chicken and quinoa, and a cheese burger. All quite satisfied, my wifes salad came home. Again food and service prompt. I think prices are a bit lower than usually find along Solano Ave. Space between tables enough for some private conversations, great natural lighting and high ceilings. The food was spectacular. We ordered a variety of items and shared. The chicken and waffles were perfectly breaded and light with an abundance of flavor. Some of the best American breakfast around. Ordered veg benedict and carb sampler. Service took a little long since they were packed and only had two waiters. Seems like a family business so go supporting local businesses! The food was well worth the wait too. Especially the veg benedict, topped with assorted vegetables including caramalized onions, potatoes with a delicious, and slightly sweet and salty green sauce. Salad was a nice touch and the eggs were perfectly cooked. The ingredients were all very quality plus the packed plate means the food is definitely well worth the slightly pricey tag. Delicious! What a perfect spot. The food is scrumptious and flavorful served with loving care by the family staff. My avocado toast was the perfect combination that including spinach which is a must for me and the potato side was delightful. My friend had the eggs Benedict and we both had the tall and refreshing citrus infused drink with chunks of soft and chewy aloe. Ordered the breakfast scramble and the California omelette. Both of the dishes were wonderfully favored and seasoned. The potato was delicious and the drop of their green sauce added a perfect touch. I ordered tea and my husband ordered a latte. He said it was a good latte. I was impressed with the tea service, with the special hot water and tea holder, along with the set of milk and sugar. Some loving care went into its selection. I had been in the space when the other restaurant was there, and O2 did an amazing job remodeling it. It was clean, spacious and well decorated. We went on a weekday morning, soon after they opened, so we had the place to ourselves. The service was great. I suspect we'll have to queue up soon given the quality of the food, service and ambiance. Oh, and the price was reasonable for this area. The service was very friendly and the preparation of the food was nicely done. The portions were very generous. A special note is that gluten free bread was an option, which is a real plus for me. It seems like these folks are just learning the restaurant ropes. I REALLY want them to succeed. We NEED a great breakfast spot on upper Solano! So I offer this critique with respect and hope. O2 is a mixture of classic breakfast offerings, burgers & salad lunch plates and some relatively generic Japanese /Japanese American fare (teriyaki salmon, ramen, udon, spam fried rice). We went for lunch: I ordered avocado toast with smoked salmon. My dining companion tried the teriyaki salmon bento box. Let's start with the avo toast. Guys, this is Berkeley. You can NOT serve avo toast on a slice of bread from a grocery store loaf. You just can't. At the very least get yourself some Acme or Semifreddi's. More concerning, the salad (tasteless, seemingly bagged greens, another dubious choice in a sophisticated food town) came with bottled Italian Dressing. I'm talking Seven Seas. Just...no. You can't serve bottled dressing from Safeway at your restaurant. It's really easy to learn how to make a simple, delicious vinaigrette! Anyone can do it! Beyond that, it would be nice if you offered eggs any style with the dish. And considering it was called avocado toast, the avo was more of a garnish than the centerpiece. I can't remember the exact price, but it was $17 or $19. You simply MUST up your game. For inspo go try the avo toast at Caffeinated on Vine or Bakers Commons in the Elmwood. The salmon teriyaki was serviceable, in no way memorable and not something to order again. The accompanying potstickers were identical to the ones we buy frozen from the Japanese markets. The salmon was fine, but not great quality fish and not super flavorful. Personally, I'd rather see the kitchen focus on getting its basic breakfasts, burgers and salads right before branching out to something entirely different. More is not necessarily better. Finally, regarding service and ambiance. The four young women servers were sweet when they actually interacted with us, but mostly stood talking together behind the counter as much as they were able. I watched. They did not circulate, never checked on how any of the diners were enjoying their meals or asked if they needed anything. They should do this at least once per table, more if people ordered coffee. Instead they fixated on a giant screen on the wall that would play a different version of elevator jazz every time they chose a new (utterly generic) photo. The pseudo-music was also so unnecessary. It's not that hard to cue up your Spotify to a high quality jazz playlist. Again, why make the choice to be more generic, less special, lower quality when success means going the other way? Our dishes also came out of the kitchen very slowly and with a big gap between my meal and my companion's. The servers neither came back to say the measl were coming nor apologized for any of the delays. I will chalk that up to being a new restaurant but it is something for staff to pay attention to or it would be the final straw. I hope O2 can do better. I know it's an eatery that wants to succeed. And like I said, I want it to succeed as well. Please, please kick up the quality of your ingredients, atmosphere and service. You can do this!!!!! read more

one of the best meals I have ever had. i have owned and worked the grill side of many a breakfast and lunch establishment that were very highly reviewed and O2 eatery was better on all fronts. the eggs Benny was insanely good with bacon and sautéed spinach under the poached egg, crisp and pillowy potatoes and a green salad. the Hollandaise was on point and everything was so perfectly balanced in flavor and proportion . did I mention the portion was very generous? as much as I would hate to have to wait in line to eat here, I expect that this will be the case soon enough. this place is probably the best breakfast you will ever have. don't let the neutral decor of flat chain looking exterior turn you off, this place is a gem.
