Oh my gosh, I'm still dreaming about the chicken we had from this restaurant. I am Not exaggerating when I say the BEST chicken I've tasted in a LONG time. It was so juicy and flavorful and the sauce they add on the side had the perfect amount of spice. We also ordered the shrimps and that dish did not disappoint. The sauce and seasoning were so delicious we ended up ordering bread so we could eat the sauce. The ambiance of this place reminds me of a NY dive bar. It's super edgy and I love all the writings on the wall from the guests. All of the staff was super friendly and answered all of our questions. They didn't rush us but allowed us to really enjoy our meal. Highly recommend this place if you are looking for a place to eat in Lisboa.

Fun little restaurant with awesome food. Make sure you come before the restaurant opens and stand in line so you can be the first to get seated. The service is slow and the food takes a long time to be served, so if you're not immediately seated, be prepared for a long wait. And by long, I mean 1-2 hours since that's how long it took for our "quick lunch" to end even though we only ordered a few dishes. The empanadas and the cod with potatoes were my two favorite dishes. Super tasty and different from everything else I've had. Server is very friendly. Their beer tap wasn't working initially, so they just offered us a shot on the house instead. Lol. Great vibe, and even better food :)

10/5 restaurant. The absolute most delicious food in all of Portugal. The owner (unbeknownst to us at the time) served us himself. I haven't stopped thinking about it since we left - namely the duck rice and the piglet popovers. Incredible incredible place.

This place was highly recommended to me and my friends and I as a "must go" restaurant in Lisbon by our Airbnb host, so we opted to hang around this area and head over before opening time to snag a table. WAIT As soon as doors open, they allow all the parties with reservations to enter first. They have a list that they check and cross out as you get seated. Next, they open the rest of the tables for walk-ins. You place your names down on a first come/first serve basis. The whole restaurant is small & cozy, so there is a wait, but definitely the earlier you come to opening, the less you wait. Since we were there before opening, we snagged a spot on the list early and was seated within 15-30mins. Since we were a party of 3, we sat at what seems like a communal table. FOOD There is a chalkboard menu listed outside the door and inside the store. But if you have any inquiries, each of the servers are well knowledgeable in their menu options and can answer questions or describe any dish to you. My friends and I decided to share a few dishes. AIPO E GRELOS (CABBAGE SPROUTS & CELERY BULBS) This dish doesn't sound appetizing, but it is! It's made with turnip greens, celery sprouts, red onions mixed with some kind of mayo & balsamic sauce. It's really light, delicious and the sauce they use makes you scrape off the whole dish clean. It's truly delicious for a vegetable plate. CAMARAO PIRI-PIRI (PiRI PIRI SHIMRPS) It's 3 pieces of prawn cooked in their piri piri sauce. Since it's prawn, the shrimp meat is only in the middle - the ends are all shell. So, it's not a filling dish, but I can note that the sauce is good and it's flavored really well, so it can be good to give it a try. FRANGO DA GUIA (GUIDED CHICKEN) This is also a sort of Piri Piri Chicken. It's fried chicken with a side of red/orange sauce to dip in. They gave several pieces of chicken, but it's kind of small. Personally, it's not my least favorite just because the chicken itself is very bone-y and overall not much meat to eat. It's not very filling. LULA & LARANJA (SQUID AND ORANGE) This is literally what it called. It's squid on a base of some orange juice sauce. The squid is nicely cooked and chewy. It's also cut into small slices, so it's easy to pull off and eat. I've personally never had squid with orange juice, but it's an interesting combo and it doesn't taste bad at all. DESSERT Our server offered us dessert options and we were open to ending the meal on a sweet note. So, we asked his recommendations. He listed a few options, but mentioned that he personally loved the caramel mousse. We quickly decided to go with this recommendation. BABA DE CAMELO (CARAMEL MOUSSE) Let me tell you... this is delicious!! If you love caramel, you will love everything about it. The caramel is super rich. The mousse is thick and creamy. There are cracker and small bread piece inside. It's sweet, but mixed with everything, it's not overpoweringly sweet. They give a good amount too. It's shareable. I've personally never tried caramel mousse before, but this set my standards high. Overall, the foods were very unique. These are all dishes that I've never tried and Probably something that I wouldn't find in any other restaurant, so I'm glad that I got to try this place. Some dishes weren't too filling, but with the combination of all the dishes, we left satisfied. Not to mention that the prices are super fair, so you aren't leaving spending too much despite ordering several plates. I would recommend this place.

Lively restaurant with cool vibes serving up Portuguese dishes. Service was friendly and fun. I'm not very familiar with Portuguese food so everything was pretty unique and different for me. We did enjoy every dish. We tried the cabbage sprouts & celery bulb, diced tuna, guided chicken, codfish bras, piri-piri shrimps. The cabbage sprouts & celery bulbs were topped with this creamy sauce which made for an interested taste and texture, not that it was bad though as I did like it. The codfish was topped with what reminded me of chips (think hickory sticks) which was kinda cool, although made it hard to find the fish under it. The diced tuna was recommended by the waiter which I did like, it was lemony and buttery. The piri-piri shrimps were a bit hard to peel as it stuck to the shell but it was delicious, really liked the sauce. The grilled chicken was the standout dish! Really liked how juicy it was, very well grilled, and the spicy sauce is delicious as well. Definitely would order this dish again. We didn't have a reservation so we arrived around 30 minutes before opening to line up. We were the 3rd table in line (after a group of 1 and a group of 2) and we waited 2 hours to be seated. They seat all reservations first for that time period (lunch or dinner) before seating any waitlist. Basically you wait for a reservation table to be done eating before you are seated. Would I recommend waiting in line for 2 hours? Probably not, do it if you have time to spare and don't mind the long wait. If you are waiting, do go early to be one of the first few in line or you probably won't get a seat. Would I go again if I had reservations? Yeah why not. Edited to add - if you drink beer, definitely order a beer! It was refreshing, crisp, and made the wait much better.

    Yes! They do take reservations.

Did I hear the chefs here are young and talented? Can you believe 25 year olds are running the show? The food is amazing and the long line of people prove this spot is hot. We unfortunately did not make a reservation and waited an hour and half for lunch. Though we were getting hangry, we were able to order right away and when the food came out, rest assured it was all worth it! We got the chicken hearts and grapes, cod with potato strings, and grilled octopus tentacle with fried garlic. The prices here are low and the portions are great. Make that reservation so you're not waiting like us dummies ;) Quality: 5/5 stars Service: 5/5 star Value: 5/5 stars

Visited Lisbon from NYC and this was my favorite traditional meal I had. Make a reservation if you want to go because there will be a wait and they stop taking names if it's too busy. The restaurant is a small hole in a wall spot with amazing flavorful dishes. The menu items change often, but my must tries were the piglet empanada and beef shank sandwich. Get extra bread to soak up all the yummy sauces!!

Lisbon is going thru some gentrification with some new chefs who are expressing themselves with small little eateries called Tescas. They are small unpretentious taverns with a small menu. O Eurico is among a few that are very popular among local as well as visitors. The cast there is very friendly (despite the restaurant being extremely busy). A fun fact is the staff rotates and they are all chefs. One day they cook, one day they serve. Never seen this before. And man these boys can cook. The small shoestring French fries were some of the best I have had. You can tell they are not frozen fries and so much care went into such a simple dish. The pate was extremely smooth and was cooked with Port (French technique). The braised beef cheek had a wonderful beef reduction sauce you could tell it has been simmering and reducing for hours. The shrimp sauce is made out of small little shrimps and finished with shrimp butter. I can go on and on. Bravo to the whole staff. A reputation and success well deserved

TLDR: Delicious take on traditional Portuguese food. Very popular with limited seating so reservations are a must. Vibe: 5/5. O Velho Eurico is a charming 5-6 table restaurant tucked away in the corner of a small side street in Alfama. The restaurant is all in one room, with the kitchen in the back and the dining room consisting of a handful of 2 top tables (can be pushed together for larger groups). This place just oozes hipster dive restaurant. The walls are playfully covered with signatures and compliments from past diners as well as funny poster art. The menu changes daily which is written on a large chalkboard located near the kitchen. The bathroom is a tiny closet shared stall which when you enter, are greeted by a multi colored spinning disco light bulb illuminating the entire bathroom. And the piece de resistance to the divey vibe, Biggie Smalls was playing on repeat the entire time. Service: 5/5. Amazing staff! O Velho was extremely accommodating from start to finish. I emailed the restaurant several weeks in advance for my lunch reservation and were very responsive in getting us squared away. On the day of our reservation, we arrived late as we were coming directly from the Lisbon airport. A large crowd of walk up diners had already started to congregate outside the just opened restaurant but fortunately once in provided my name, we were immediately escorted inside and seated. Our waiter was extremely helpful in explaining the menu and walking us through our first meal in Portugal. Food came out reasonably quickly but one must note that the kitchen does their cooking in batches, so food timing is mostly based on what the rest of the restaurant is currently ordering. Since the restaurant was at full capacity during our lunch service and they only have a handful of menu items, we never experienced a lag in plates hitting the table. Food: 5/5. An amazing meal to begin our Portugal foodie vacation. We ordered several of the staples, including the baccalau a bras (codfish) , crispy duck rice, octopus and tuna with a couple glasses of house red wine. Every dish was delicious and fresh from the kitchen. Portuguese food is simple by nature, allowing the ingredients to do most of the talking. This allowed us to taste the remarkable freshness of the meats and produce that O Velho uses in their cooking. If I had to choose the must get items, I would absolutely suggest the tuna and octopus. Both were rich with flavor and seasoned remarkably. The dark horse of the meal was the quaint off menu cookie cake dessert. Fresh creme on top of a soft fresh made cookie cake wafer made for the perfect end to an amazing meal.

Had the most delicious meal in Portugal here. We were recommended this place and emailed to make a reservation. So glad we did as they only were able to fit in for lunch. Started with the cheese, bread and olives. The cheese was so good and came out hot. Then we got the pear cider which was good and big. To eat we shared the melon salad, tuna and beef shank sandwhich. I wish we saved room for dessert. Would recommend to any visitors!!

A place where anyone will leave with their stomachs full, their wallets not empty, and their moods boosted. We were warmly greeted upon entering and served by the owner himself. The staff seems truly happy to be working, and the consumers are clearly the priority. Virtually as soon as we sat down, we were served bread, olives, and a delicious cheese melted straight out of the oven. We tried six different shareable plates, and we agreed that paying triple what we did for each one would've still been acceptable. Our favorites were the Migas & Ovo, the Octopus, Codfish, and Tuna. Everything was truly delicious, and the owner was extremely kind and made us feel at home. Highly recommend.

The food across the board was excellent--every dish we tried was flavorful, well-prepared, and felt thoughtfully put together. You can tell there's real intention behind both the menu and execution. What really elevated the experience, though, was our waiter, Bernardo. He brought incredible energy to the table--full of personality, engaging, and genuinely fun to interact with. At the same time, his service was top-notch: attentive without being overbearing, helpful with recommendations, and clearly passionate about what he does. Great food is one thing, but when you pair it with service like that, it turns into a memorable experience. Highly recommend--and if you get Bernardo, you're in for a great time.

I had read in Yelp that lines could be long, but we arrived early. They have a little red rope at the door where they explain the rules. The interior is kind of eclectic. They have wines at three price points, we got a really nice bottle of red called Pops reserve. For the tapas, we ordered the assorted cheeses, octopus risotto, duck breast with chips (not normally on the menu), and ceviche. All were superb. We started with the duck and ceviche. The duck was braised perfectly and seasoned well, wonderful. Then the ceviche had swordfish and tuna. I am not normally a sword fan, but this was very tasty. Next up were the cheese and risotto. The risotto was incredible, buttery and delicious. The cheese plate had 5 cheeses of different intensity. All were great, particularly the goat ones. It came with a pumpkin jam which I had never had before, but was very good. I definitely recommend this place
