The extraordinary lunch I enjoyed at O Velho Eurico was nothing short of a creative, risk-taking work of art. Bravo to the cooks at this restaurant and thank you to the staff for such attentive, patient, and kind service.
While we were not big fans of the mussels in escabeche, I can't help but applaud the courage required for conceiving and serving such a bold dish - bravo. The chicken hearts were delightfully tender and depthful in flavor. The duck rice was a joyful revelation at every bite, from beginning to end. But the squid was perhaps the best squid I've enjoyed in my entire life - perfectly cooked, balanced flavors, delicious in its simplicity. For dessert, the leite creme had a yummy interior but the caramelized sugar top appeared to be overcaramelized, ultimately leaving a burnt propane taste in our mouths. However, the rest of the food was so remarkable that the dessert didn't even matter.
The meal we shared at O Velho Eurico was one of those meals that I will be thinking about for a long, long time. While we initially waited an hour for a table, this unassuming restaurant with its lively music, chalkboard menus, and eclectic plates were well worth the wait. I someday hope to have the honor of returning to O Velho Eurico. read more
