The Model Bakery - Chocolate RAD Cookie

I've been back to Model Bakery at Oxbow a few times since my last review, and definitely make sure…read moreyou come early on the weekend if you're hoping to get english muffins, or order ahead online to make sure you aren't faced with the sad news that they're sold out! Despite being busy as always, the line still moves quickly, and there is plenty of space at the outdoor picnic tables to wait for your order. The picnic tables do get pretty covered in crumbs, but nothing a napkin and a quick swipe can't fix - do be careful of the many birds lurking to grab a bite though. While my favorite is still the plain toasted english muffin with butter and apricot jam, I have also tried the chipotle muffin - which came on nicely toasted sourdough and not an english muffin (my fault for not reading more carefully); this was a hearty, tasty and great breakfast sandwich! The bacon was thick and not too chewy or burnt, and the chipotle sauce brought the tomato, egg and avocado together perfectly, though I'd love a bit more sauce. We also tried the honey butter cornmeal cookie which was amazing - not too sweet but full of honey and corn flavor with a fun chewy texture and mouthfeel. Anyways, definitely come for the english muffins, but everything else is worth trying too :)

I ordered my egg sandwich without the meat and grabbed a chai to go along with it. The sandwich was solid, and the chai was blah. Next time, though, I am coming prepared with a jelly packet or a little butter because this muffin deserves the full experience. There is no indoor seating, but honestly, it adds to the charm. There are outdoor benches with umbrellas, providing just enough shade to enjoy your food without melting. You order at the counter, and they bring everything out to you, which feels like a little treat in itself. If Oprah is a fan and you still have not been, that is all the sign you need. Go check it out!

Yummy pastries all around! Everything I tried hit the spot. I picked up four macarons (chocolate,…read morevanilla, pistachio, and red velvet) and each one was perfectly balanced with a crisp shell and soft, flavorful center. The cream cheese danish was a standout--generously filled and rich without being overly sweet. The pistachio éclair was absolutely delectable, with a smooth, nutty cream that made it hard to share. I also grabbed the Better Nutter and the TKO (Thomas Keller Oreo), both of which were delicious and worth ordering again. The only item I wasn't too into was the Ohoh, though my niece loved it--so it really just comes down to personal taste. Service was friendly and efficient, even with the steady crowd. The bakery itself is pretty small, so expect a line that may stretch out the door, we waited about 15 minutes just to get inside. Still, definitely worth it for the quality of the pastries!

We stopped in to see what all the buzz was about and left completely obsessed. Don't let the line intimidate you though, it moves surprisingly fast! The shop itself is tiny but mighty, and the moment you walk in, the smell of fresh breads and pastries hits you like a warm hug. Oh, and did we mention it's owned by the legendary Chef Thomas Keller? Yeah, that's reason enough to plant yourself in that line and not look back. I snagged the monkey bread, a blueberry muffin, and a pistachio macaroon, and friends, I have a pro tip: pop those pastries in the microwave for just a few seconds and prepare yourself for pure, warm, buttery greatness. Everything was delicious and perfectly balanced, not too sweet, just right. If you're in Yountville, this stop is non-negotiable!

Unfortunately, my experience fell short in a few meaningful ways. I ordered a lavender coffee latte, which I was really looking forward to, but it lacked flavor and was disappointing enough that I chose not to purchase anything further. That alone might not have stopped me from returning, but what followed did. Knowing European culture, and especially Parisian cafés, are often very dog-friendly, and given Napa's well-known dog-loving atmosphere, I felt comfortable bringing my dog, who is a service animal. I was immediately asked to leave because only service animals are allowed, with the assumption made that my dog was not one. While he is in fact a service animal, the interaction left me feeling unwelcome and uncomfortable. There was no curiosity or neutral clarification... just an assumption and a request to leave. That moment really deflated the excitement I had walking in. Between the coffee experience and feeling unwelcome, I decided not to stay as long as planned or purchase anything further. I'm glad to see that others have had better experiences here, and the pastries certainly look lovely. I suppose those interested should trust other reviewers on that front. Unfortunately, based on my experience, I won't be returning.

The meringue rose like a delicate cloud, lightly sweet, airy, and beautifully toasted, each bite dissolving with just enough structure to remind you of its craft. Beneath it, the lemon filling struck that elusive balance: bright and vibrant, yet luxuriously smooth, with a decadence that never crossed into excess. It danced perfectly between tart citrus and gentle sweetness, leaving you reaching back for another forkful before you even realized it. The crust, often an afterthought in lesser pies, was executed with precision, thin, crisp, and just sturdy enough to support the layers without competing for attention. It framed the experience rather than distracting from it. Yes, it leaned toward the higher end in price, but this was not simply dessert, it was an experience worth every dollar. The table fell quiet in that rare, collective appreciation, followed by the inevitable chorus of "Where did you get this?" A showstopper in every sense, elevated, indulgent, and unforgettable.

This very popular counter service cafe is very popular for good reason. The food is amazing. I am so happy to we chose to go here while visiting Napa for a few days. It's worth visiting Napa just to go to Winston's in my humble opinion. The waits can be long to get in and order and maybe even long to get a table, but it's worth it. Also, this place is a great community establishment and helps out the local pet shelter to help find homes for dogs. They even have coloring pages with crayons of adoptable dogs at the Napa shelter. My wife and I ordered two breakfast places and two pastries on our visit. The salmon salad plate was our healthy plate, which was really tasty and fresh. The true standout for me is their pork Belly Loco Moco. I never seem to love a loco moco plate, but I like them. They are typically served with a beef patty. Let me just say that this is a perfect plate of food. The pork belly melts in your mouth and has a delicious hoisin sauce drizzled on it. The eggs and pickled veggies god great with the pork belly, but there is also this wonderful gravy on the plate which is like a chicken gravy. It's so ridiculously good. I can't say enough good things about this plate and how much it works together in balance and harmony. We also tried their toasted Coconut donut, which is a glazed yeast donut with toasted coconut flakes. It was very good! But the dessert standout was the chocolate pistachio muffin. This was so moist, buttery and rich with chocolate and nuttiness. So delicious! I also want to add that I love the ambiance of Winston's and its lovely decor. This is a real gem of a place!

Our table wasn't properly cleared , some dishes were removed before our food arrived, but the remaining ones weren't taken away until after, and the table was never wiped down between. As for the food, I'd give it a 3/5. The chorizo in my omelet was overly salty, not in a seasoned way, but genuinely too much to enjoy. The potatoes also tasted like they had been fried multiple times, possibly to reheat, which left them with an off flavor.

The service was welcoming and kind, and I loved the windows and wood accents inside which made for a nice relaxing atmosphere - it was a beautiful day outside so I sat at one of the many small foldable chairs/tables outside. The offer adorable plates for pastries to enjoy there. I got a lemon verbena pastry, and a fig leaf latte. I like that their offerings are a bit unique, and the pastry was delicate, tasty, though a little less crisp that I'd like - perhaps because it was later in the day? The fig leaf latte was also tasty - though I couldnt really taste a big difference between the fig leaf syrup and vanilla - it seemed to be missing a little something to really bring out the fig leaf flavor. Overall, a cute little cafe to grab a pastry and coffee at, and I'd like to come back earlier in the day to try some of the other pastries! A little pricier than some of the other pastries in the area, but they're definitely a little more elevated here :)

Sidenote, the drinks do come iced as well. In addition to our drinks, I bought lemon curd jam and rosè jelly. There was only one person working when we were there but we didn't wait long for our drinks which was a big plus. Aside from that, the bourbon latte was very tasty and I loved the fact that the bourbon syrup wasn't too overpowering. Next time I go, I'm definitely getting it iced.
