Just more tiresome low effort vegan options that you can find at any one of these type of places. I don't know what is so difficult about this. There's nothing about veganism that discourages flavor in foods. And there's definitely nothing about veganism that mandates mushy sweet potatoes in a breakfast burrito. [UPDATE] I really like the food here!! I've only ever gotten kickin' kale, but it's delicious! After being treated a bit rudely by staff there one evening, the owner reached out to apologize and provided my feedback to his employees to make sure it didn't happen again. The next time I went, the staff couldn't have been friendlier. The food is really fresh, and it's such a nice space to do work or meet up with friends! This is exactly how you get loyal customers: great food and great service! This was my first review: The food is really good here, and I was completely sold after my first visit! However, I've only been here twice and had a completely negative experience the second time. The cashier was rather curt to me (maybe it's because I ordered around 8 pm). My salad was still tasty, but my addition was not included and neither was one of the main ingredients, so I was left a bit disappointed. We ordered the buffalo chicken kale wrap and the avocado chipotle lime bowl (can't remember the exact name), it was ready VERY quick, and it was DELICIOUS! We were in Medford for the weekend and my wife wanted something gluten free and a juice, so I ran to Yelp and came across Nu Cafe. It was only a 7-8 min drive from our hotel so I went the first morning we were there because they advertised gluten free muffins and fresh juices. I got there right at opening with one person ahead of me in line. They had one GF muffin and it was sweet potato and quinoa. They said it was good, but it was about how it sounds. The next day I went back and they had no GF muffins at all which was disappointing, but that was the negatives for this place. The Might Beats juice was rich and delicious. Exactly what the doctor ordered and she got it both days and enjoyed it both days. I got their organic coffee both days which was very nice as well. I also got the Portapesto Chorizo sandwich one day which was excellent and tasty and the Spanish Scramble the other day. I assumed I would get a bag of chips, but they put open chips in a small box with the wrap and pickle. All of my chips are chewy and/or soggy. If you know that the chips are going to be delivered, what's wrong with a small $.50 bag of chips??? Or even put the chips in a separate plastic bag away from moisture? There's not much bacon in it. I've really wanted to like this place ever since moved in because it's right around the corner from me, it's a good place to work, and it's (seemingly) just the kind of food that I like. Healthy, natural-ish, indie. And I do think there food is probably good, but unfortunately I've mostly have bad experiences there because... They are generally bad at responding to my dietary restrictions and needs. Most places of this sort would be really good about substituting things, taking out ingredients, making adjustments, etc. But instead, most of the time they have either failed to take things out that they said they would, said they cannot make substitutions, or otherwise made me feel bad for even asking. Holy crap. I just got the honey goat avocado sandwich (which has eggs, honey goat cheese, and avocado inside a ciabatta bun) and it was so smooth and creamy. Subtly sweet. Came here today for lunch with my boyfriend excited to see a new healthy option open up in the area but left with very mixed feelings. The food is mediocre, some items are better than others. The real issues with this place were not food related. We had a $40 gilt gc and there was some confusion on how to input it. Apparently, if you have a remaining balance, there's no way for them to give you any records of your balance.. When the owner (assumed as she was holding a schedule and the main chef) came over, her attitude was that of annoyance and distaste in having to deal with customers. This place is great. I stop by every morning to get my coffee on the way to work. I usually get hot coffee and Nu does it well. Iced is good too on super hot days. Sometimes get a late dinner on my way back from work too. So I've seen it all here. Throwing some shade, Bloc 11 down the street charges waaay more for food and beverages and is not nearly as good. Check out Nu instead next time. I've noticed that Nu kitchen has the same staff around which tells me they take care of employees and that is important to me as a customer. Happy employees make better food. If I were to suggest anything to my friends at Nu Kitchen. The food program is good but could be better. I can tell that they keep the food simple so it stays consistent, good move!... but sometimes it has a super prepared-food feeling to it which is a shame because I can tell care goes into the ingredients. This is a really cute addition to the Union Square area! I drove by this place several times before finally visiting today. The owner came into my office with menus and $5 off coupons, so I felt like that was a sign to finally check it out. I ended up getting the Fresh Basil and Mozzarella panini, which was pretty good but not thrilling either. I got chips and a pickle for my side, but the chips got all soggy from being so close to the sandwich in the to-go box, which was gross. I don't really know how they could fix this, but definitely didn't make me want to get another to-go sandwich again. Also, if you pick this as your side, they put the pickle underneath your sandwich in the box. I didn't see it at first at thought I had gotten short changed! The bread the panini was on was kind of gross, so basically, I'm probably not going to get a panini here again. I still want to give them four stars because the customer service was pretty great, the space is really nice and they have a really diverse menu. I recommend the chipotle avocado lime bowl, cacao cold brew, turkey pesto sandwich, and crispy Brussels sprouts. The place is slightly pricy, but you get what you pay for and the lighter fares on the snack menu are a steal. The avocado toast is actually reasonable at $3.50. My only complaint is that the staff can be slightly short with customers and slow. They're often in no hurry to get to your order. Nonetheless, I would come here everyday if I could.
