About a year ago, I went to Sam Prior's former location, Park Optics, where I'd been a patient for 10 years. I was distressed when I returned to the Park Slope store in January 2023 only to find it had closed. I tried to locate someone from the store but failed to locate anyone. My eyeglasses had shattered internally, and the visible cracks on both lenses were long and distracting. I'd never had a pair do this. I had always been treated with great customer care, and I now felt abandoned! I almost called the Better Business Bureau, but held off as I like to give the benefit of the doubt. Another local optometrist thought the lenses were plastic and not polycarbonate. That was impossible I thought! Needless to say, as I was about to spend another several hundred dollars at a new store, a new associate recognized me and told me Sam had to close due to higher rents! I never found their goodbye email! Well, Sam and I reconnected! He drove from Queens to my home in the Slope. He took my glasses personally to the Lab, replaced the lenses for free--I was just shy of the warranty--and hand-delivered them before he left on a month-long vacation with his family in Asia!!! The older lady doctor is very rude/grumpy. She complained to my gf that lash extensions are bad for her snd she should never get them. She was never informed of the checkup price snd then she yelled at the front younger lady and almost made her cry. every time i've been here she is a big problem. I've been coming to this store for over 6 years. It was great in the beginning, but the management must have recently changed. Not only has the prices went up, sure inflation and cost of goods goes up every year. They used to give me a few pairs of extra contacts and solution. I went there this past weekend and got 2 boxes of solution and no extra pairs. Fine, it's something rather than nothing, but I had to ask and was given dirty looks from most of the staff there. The attitude from most of the staff is also just terrible. There are a lot of choices nowadays just on Main St alone, so I'll just take my business elsewhere if you guys don't want it. Excellent Customer Service This is my first visit to this optometry because they take my insurance and a recommendation from a friend. It's a very clean and neat store. They do not have a huge selection of sunglasses but they still have a lot of nice brand name, such as, Burberry, Coach, Prada, RayBand, Tiffany, Ferragamo and more. They also have cute ophthalmic glasses for kids. Vicky is a very nice and friendly sale person. She started to help me once I walked in. Verified my insurance in just a minute and explain in good detail about it. She help me out in choosing a pair of sunglasses and chose a very beautiful sunglasses for me. She's able to use my insurance allowance to help deduct. Dr. Yip is a very attentive optometrist. She carefully checked my eyes and spoke in clear about my prescription. I tried Nu Eyes at the recommendation of a friend and it was the best decision ever! The staff here are super friendly and helpful, and never made me feel pressured. They really know their stuff, and the three ladies who helped me (and later, the bf) had great taste and suggested amazing frames for us. They really are honest and don't push higher cost frames on customers. I've worn glasses for as long as I remember, and this is the best experience I have ever had overall- from shopping to options and price break down to the actual exam. I've always had a hard time during the exams but everyone was very patient with me and I didn't even have any trouble. They sanitize all the equipment before letting us use it, which is just a small detail but shows how much they really care about customers. Besides the fact thay their prices are very good, they accept a great variety of insurances. They are so good about explaining all the options to you before you decide anything. Before they finalized my prescription, they made me walk around with test lenses to make sure I was ok with the rx. They really pushed me to walk around for a few minutes before they would finalize everything. I have to mention, the doctor was amazing (Diana s. Ma). She was very friendly, and even remembered my friend by name! (Shout out to Dana!). My second time back, monthes after I got my first frames, they remembered me and asked how my glasses were. The Bf had the other doctor (Melissa Yip) who he said was also very nice and informative. I've been having chronic pain issues in my eyes for years. I've gone to many eye doctors and have been told it's "just chronic pink eye" and I "should keep the area around my eye clean." My family and I have been going to Nu Eyes for many years now but I decided to write a review because I was really impressed with their COVID safety measures. The store/office is usually very clean but I saw first hand how the staff sanitized the areas after each patient. I was so surprised how thorough they were. I also appreciated how the waiting area was not crowded and they only let 2 families in at a time. When I took my kids to the dentist over the summer I was so upset their waiting area was packed like pre-covid days. As always, Dr. Ma was very thorough and answered all my questions during my check up. I was very happy with my visit even though initially I was worried since Flushing is always so crowded and social distancing doesn't seem to apply there lol. read more

Terrible service. Salesperson knows nothing about glasses. The frames are average-priced but the lenses are very expensive compared to other competitors within the region. The guy there has no idea how to properly adjust glasses either. Overall, they need to improve their customer flow. Although they limit the capacity to like 2 people that can go into the store at once due to Covid, they somehow still act like they're understaffed with 3 people working behind the counter. The salesperson there made me see their optometrist first before I even browsed the glasses selection or made a decision on whether I will buy anything there. Then after forcing me into an optometrist exam, she told me it would cost $75 if I wasn't going to buy anything (vs. the $30 if I had). No complaints about the optometrists though. She was friendly and informative, the only good part out of this whole experience. TLDR; Would not come back again. There are much better optical shops around Flushing. read more

Love the Kio Yamato frame with the glasses I got here. Definitely the best pair I've ever got in the US. The service was great and everyone was so professional and kind. Nu Eyes takes a lot of vision plans. I have Eyemed and it worked great there. Also, I was very excited to see so many name brand frames that have nose pieces here (so hard to find at stores that are located in the city). In comparison, I went to one Lens&Crafters at Midtown East last year and I was only able to find a few frames with nose pieces (in the end I had to pick one of them that didn't fit too well on my face). Ive been coming here for almost 4yrs just for eye exams and get whatever glasses is free with my insurance. My pair of glasses I own now is from HK and unfortunately my son broke them. I took it to NuEyes asking if they can fix glasses with fish wire to hold the lense they said yes.. $15. And I asked if I were to get new transition lenses how much and the sales said ~$170. $15 wasn't too bad. I went the next day and this tall guy asked of he can help me. I showed him my glasses and immediately he said he can't fix it. He said if he did it might pop out again and I should get new ones. I asked again how much he said you have special lenses.. Uh and for transition it's... $400. I told him a sales told me $170 at first so why is it $400 now and he said cause I want transition polycarbonate lens and they are $400. WTF $400 just for lenses. No further questions I walked out. 3 weeks later I went to DaBo down the block. The gentleman there saw my glasses in 10mins he fixed it. He said cause the lens are chipped on the side it may feel loose but it won't fall out unless I drop it. Total cost $5. I asked him about transition lens and he put my glasses under this machine and told me my prescription is very very light so for brand new anti glare transition polycarbonate lenses.. $170. A total shock. And will be ready in 2hrs. I had to double check and specifically said I want the same exact lens I have now and they looked at me stupid and said "yes exactly the same $170, if you want very very special lens ~$250 but because your prescription is very light $170 is best". Overall shop around. Down 2 blocks and lenses went from non fixable to fixed, $400 lenses to $170. read more

Growing up with glasses, I've been to many optical shops in the Flushing area. Most of these places were rather pushy to make a sale, and did not have the most patient salesmen. This time around, my mom suggested to try this new store - especially since they were advertising a 20% discount off frames as a grand opening promotion. I wasn't disappointed! The staff are extremely friendly and easygoing, and willing to try their best to accommodate my needs. They explained everything that I needed to know, and were very patient for any further concerns and questions I had. They were also very prompt with my order, and fulfilled my prescription within 24 hours (assuming the frames you want are in stock in the store.) To really emphasize how much I recommend this place - I actually brought my friend in when picking up my glasses, and she ended up leaving with a purchase as well! We both definitely felt like appreciated customers, and plan on returning whenever we need further eye-care products. read more

My wife and 2 boys came here to get thee glasses and the staff were very patient with their selection, so my wife suggested I go in to update my glasses. I went in to get a glasses and contacts. The doctor originally gave me a pair of 2 week contacts to try for a week. Turns out it was extremely uncomfortable for me, so they then gave me a pair of one month contacts to try on which were much more comfortable. However, after a couple of days, I went back because it didn't make sense for me to order the month long contacts as I am an occasional wearer. They THEN gave me some dailies to try and we finally got the order right. They even filled out all the rebates for me so all I have to do is mail it out. Amazingly accommodating! read more

The Dr. was really friendly and funny throughout the exam. I felt so at ease and comfortable asking a million questions. I would give 5 stars just for her BUT it went a little downhill once I went to go choose my glasses. I wanted to use my insurance (Davis Vision) to help cover my glasses. My plan allows me to choose any glasses under the Davis Vision collection for free. But I was SOOOO Disappointed when she took out a tray of glasses I could choose from. They were so cheaply made and flimsy..no wonder they were free. I picked out a pretty decent looking one though but the lady told me that I should choose a more expensive once since my lenses are so expensive (over $300 because my vision/astigmatism is so bad...) and she doesn't want the frames to break. I was a little hesitant because I'm already spending over $300 just for my lenses and didn't want to spend an extra $200 on frames..But she kept telling me that I shouldn't get the free ones and recommended other frames. They were all around $180~ and I told her that I was on a tight budget. But she explained that it was already really cheap compared to the "real" price tag. The total came out to be under $500 but my insurance covered $45 and she said she will give me an extra 10% discount. When people freely give discounts like that, I automatically assume that the prices were already jacked up and they're just pretending to give me a discount when it should have been that price to begin with.. I know that's how businesses work but I needed more time to think and just get away from all that pressure. So I told her I would be back but went to Best Vision instead and got a much better deal! I needed a new pair of glasses and decided to visit Nu Eyes after checking out their stellar reviews. I was definitely not disappointed. All in all, I have nothing but good things to say about Nu Eyes. The shop is very clean and new with a wide selection of frames. The staff was very professional and knowledgeable. I spent an hour picking out the right frame for my face while the gentleman offered his suggestions and honest opinion. I ended up picking a light, comfortable, and stylish frame brand (ic! berlin). The gentleman then spent some time explaining the different lenses and coatings available to me in detail which other opticals in the area never did before. Never did I feel like they were trying to push for a sale. I was pleasantly surprised when they were able to make my glasses within half an hour! I was fit into my glasses easily, and they feel great on me right now while I am writing this very review. I have been to other optical shops in the neighborhood before, but Nu Eyes is definitely a step above the others with their great customer service. Dr. Ma is one of the coolest and most funny doctors I've seen. Friendly, flexible and knowledgeable, I had a great experience getting my contact lens exam done at Nu Eyes. I went on a weekend in the afternoon (without any appointment) and waited less than 20 minutes. They have quite a decent size staff, so no one really had to wait to be assisted. I checked out some of their frames and they seem to have quite a large selection. If you understand Cantonese, you might find some of the staff somewhat unprofessional as I heard one of them openly complaining to another about her poor work ethic in front of the customers. Honestly, this is my go-to anything eyewear place. I've been coming to this store for a few years now, anything from my kid's glasses to my sunglasses, minor repairs to newly purchased. The staffs here are friendly & helpful, especially Crystal. Crystal is extremely easy to talk to and really know her stuffs, she puts you at ease and make you feel comfortable. I had recommended a few friends to her, and them too, were happy with the service and purchase. As for their doctor, Dr. Yip, she's very friendly and always has a pleasant smile on her face. After a miserable experience with Lens Crafters in Manhattan 2 years ago I vowed to do more research before finding a new vendor. I decided to put some trust in my fellow Yelpers' recommendations to use Nu Eyes. I was impressed by: 1. Initial professionalism when I called to set an appointment. Melissa was friendly, warm, flexible and responsive to my needs and questions. 2. Cleanliness and design of retail store. This store uniquely gets natural sunlight from west and north because they have windows on both sides. It makes a big difference to see what you are buying in natural sunlight. 3. Exam handled efficiently and professionally. 4. VSP accepted. 5. Great selection of designer frames. 6. Attentive service and help with selecting a new frame. 7. Sam explained line by line costs in a way so you knew what exactly you were paying for and what was being covered by VSP insurance. I really appreciated his approach to customer service with this since I purchased progressives and opted for Verilux lenses with Crizal. The Crizal really helps reduce dust, glare and smudges. I really wish I can give Nu Eyes five-stars but they really didn't earn it. I went after reading their superb reviews on Yelp. I visited TWICE and they DISAPPOINTED both times. I visited Nu Eyes for an eye exam to update my glasses prescription. Receptionist wasn't professional. She looked up my insurance info, and said I have a free annual. BUT after my eye exam, Dr. Ma looked at my form and told me I actually DON"T have a free annual on insurance. Receptionist made a mistake.. No apology from her, just a "Oh..." I paid out of pocket. Dr. Ma did my eye exam very quickly. When she asked me, "Is 1 better or 2?" She didn't even wait for an answer, and told me exam is over. Excuse me? It felt like a rushed job, but there was no customer after me. What was the rush? To be fair, prescription seems accurate so I didn't complain after wards. I visited 2nd time to try on trial lenses and pick out a pair of new frames from the store. There were 4 receptionists this time... I was the only customer at the time. The middle-aged receptionist, who was probably Dr. Ma's family member - they looked alike - had a huge attitude, while other receptionist all looked clueless - like I was speaking French to them. I visited Nu Eyes based on the wonderful Yelp reviews for some new prescription glasses. I came in and wasn't immediately greeted, but once I started browsing, a very nice staff member asked if I needed help with anything. I had a very particular frame style in mind (two toned plastic) and described the look to her. She brought me a couple of 2-toned frames to try, but none of them looked good with my face shape (round). The selection there was too limited for me. Nu Eyes only had frames on one side of the store, and I didn't see many frames that I was interested in. The sales associate let me know that if they didn't have what I was looking for, they could order frames for me if I could find it online, as long as they carried the brand. That seemed OK, but I really wanted to try the frames in store before ordering anything; I wasn't sure if they would be able to send the frames back if I decided I didn't want them and just didn't want to go through the hassle. When I went, there were kids jumping all over the place and it was busier. The person helping me was also helping someone else, but I suppose busy times can't be helped! It's great that they accept insurance and their customer service is very good. I love Nueyes! The staff is so friendly and helpful. I've been coming here 2 years now and have experienced service and care that is unparalleled to other eye-glass stores. What a neighborhood gem! The optometrists (Diana and Melissa) are very personable and professional. They take time to address all your questions and concerns and never once did I feel rushed. I felt like they valued me as an individual and not as just any customer that walks in their store. It's really nice to come across doctors who aren't jaded by the business and by the amount of people they see. The space of the store is very bright and clean. They use the newest equipment and before you use or touch anything, they always sanitize the machines. Not all stores do that. Just one example of how they pay attention to detail which is something I really appreciate! Nu Eyes is rather new to the neighborhood and I think brings a youthful and modern take on eyeglasses to the community. The office is bright, modern and there's a lot to "oooo" at. I was very impressed with the office/shop because of how clean/modern it is especially in comparison to the other eyeglass shops in the area. I called about making an appointment for my eye check up and they said I could just walk in. When I did, I was promptly seen by Dr. Ma. She was great! She didn't rush through the exam and was very thorough. Following the exam, a saleslady helped me pick out new frames. I told them I wanted a cat eye type frame and they showed me several frames to try out. I picked out a chic Marc Jacobs frame and they were ready within 2 days.
