I was intrigued by the numerous reviews for Nu Eyes after I accidentally sat on my glasses and broke the hinge connecting the lens and the earpiece earlier in November (Oops). Previous experiences with an eyeglass shop in the neighborhood were alright, but nothing phenomenal, and I only went during high school out of a blase deference to my dad, who knew the owner/manager, and my own general ignorance on what I wanted. Armed with this prior experience, I went to Nu Eyes and was immediately impressed by a lot of things: 1) Level of professionalism and patience by the saleswoman/eye technician (I forgot her name) who really helped me out in picking out a good frame. We pretty much looked over the entire store to find me great frames, but once we did, we felt like we hit gold in finding glasses that fit me and my face shape. 2) The exam room, led by Dr. Ma, was very thorough and I felt comfortable answering her questions, instead of feeling pressured to answer the "right" way, which has happened to me in the past, unfortunately. She did ask closed-ended questions ("Does this work?" versus "How does this work?" can make a big difference), but I was able to answer her thoroughly without feeling trapped. 3) The glasses were done a day after the appointment, when it was expected to be done after the weekend. The total price was fair, even with my lack of insurance. 4) I went back to the place two weeks after I got my glasses to get my nose pads fixed and general adjustments to the ear piece. The guy who assisted me was very friendly and conversational as he assisted me in molding the glasses to fit my head better. All in all, a much more satisfying customer experience. Minus one star for this one lady who cops MAJOR attitude at me and I have no idea why, but all I can say is that haters gon' hate. This place is a gem in the Flushing area overall and will be my place of choice from here on out. read more

Run away from this place. I have had to return to this store 5 times to finally get my glasses. And in the process of finally getting my prescription right when they tried for 45 minutes to adjust the glasses to fit comfortably on me, they break my frames. The person adjusting my glasses fiddled with it for 30 mins and failed miserably. Blaming his incompetence on my ears being slightly different in height. Who the hell tells the customer to fix their face when the glasses are what needs to be adjusted? And here is the kicker, after a month of screw ups with lenses and coatings, I now have the right lenses but they broke the last pair of frames I liked and so I had to take a frame I did not pick out. For over $600 you would think you would get better service than this. I have used them for my kids and myself in the past, but judging by this latest purchase I am ready to return everything and ask for a charge back. Totally ridiculous! read more

The store isn't very big, and selection is kept at a minimal but it is very clean and staff is very helpful and friendly. I came here because it was one of the locations that took VSP and the girl behind the counter was very patient in explaining my benefits to me. I wanted to get new contacts and needed to be refitted into them. The optometrist here is very friendly and thorough with my eye exam. She made sure to give me several test pairs to try in order to see which will be best for me in the long run. I will definitely come back here for all my future eyewear needs. read more

I used to love this place but during my most two recent eye visits, people just tried to sell you things without any professional knowledge. They kept asking me to buy extra things just because "they are good for you." Their prices are really expensive even with insurance. Randomly found this place on the internet. What a gem. It's in a crazy busy part of flushing so don't drive there. My salesperson was a young Asian with blond hair. Spoke perfect English which I need. She was so sweet and patient. Loved her. I asked her what she recommended for my face and she picked out a lot for me to try and I went with he first one she chose for me. I waited about 20 minutes to get an exam with dr yip. Loved her. Down to earth, funny and professional. Got a call less than a week later that my glasses were ready. After reading reviews on Hunter Vision which I guess is their big competitor, I got worried that they wouldn't provide my prescription as mentioned multiple times in Hunter's reviews. But whew. Nu eyes has no problem writing out my prescription when I went to pick my up glasses. Prices were very reasonable too! Excellent experience. read more

I went there a week ago. I have been their customers for many years. The staff was super helpful and nice. I really appreciate their organized steps to ensure each customer is social distancing, masking up, and offering free hand sanitizer to ensure the safety of everyone. Their place is cleaned constantly. I feel safe in there. Their advises are also professional and the frame is cheap. I've never been to any other eye glasses place in Flushing, since there are many good reviews for this place already and I've been coming here for over 2 years now. It was always a good experience! Vicki, who works behind the counter, is SUPER sweet and helpful everytime I go there. This past weekend was my first time meeting Dr. Diana, and she was AWESOME! Really personable and made sure (double/triple checking) that I had the right prescription since I said my vision feels weird and it was only because I wore the wrong contact lens on the wrong eye. :P The only thing that I personally think is kinda silly is that you HAVE to get an eye exam even though you know your vision stayed the same. Not sure if this is a must for all eye glass places? But when my fiance is looking to purchase a pair of sunglasses with no prescription (just to take advantage of his vision insurance so it doesnt go to waste), they made him get an eye exam anyways. Doesn't really make sense to me. I also think their selection of glasses are kind of limited. Before this place, I used to go to EyeSolutions in Chinatown and they had a bigger selection/styles there. Something they can improve on. I've been in the Ophthalmology world for a longtime. That said, I'm hip to the eyeglass mark ups. The staff was professional, educated and engaging. Sure they tried to upswell me, but they offered, and didn't do the hard sell. I actually prefer a better progressive,Crizal and most of the bells and whistles. Crystal, made some sound suggestions, and we closed the deal. They also take Vsp, a nice plus. I've yet to pick up my glasses, but I'm confident they will be winners. My one gripe,- the eyeglass selection is somewhat limited for a real glass wearer whom enjoys unique frames. They have your typical Safilo,luxotica etc, but nothing exciting like La Fonte, Face a Fave, chrome Hearts, in my opinion it would behoove them to broaden their frame type and selection. Than again, I have very eclectic taste. Overall a very positive experience across the board. Parking stinks. read more

Nu Eyes is a wonderful eyeglasses shop. I walked in with a friend to just check out the kind of glasses they offered and by the minute I walked out, I was convinced to come back to purchase. The first person who guided me was super nice. I asked to try on many glasses and she was very patient considering I was there, only looking, for over 30 minutes. There was a huge variety of glasses which I liked. I think I checked out nearly their entire collection... This other lady told me about insurance and coated lenses. The eye check up doctor was informative and careful. There was also funny "24" year old guy who is super friendly and outgoing. All in all, Nu Eyes provided great customer service, and an amazing selection of glasses. I am super satisfied with my new pair of glasses and would come again for sure! :) read more

Recently I am having trouble seeing my food so I paid them a visit to get my eyes checked out. Sam was the guy who helped me, he is very patient and thorough. Since they are limiting the number of customers in the store due to covid. I knew every extra moment I take means another customer will have to wait longer, despite that I was never rushed and got all my questions answered. Very nice, professional, and patient people there! I went in there to buy a pair of new frames for the ones I broke. When they couldn't find a pair that would match my lenses and frames that would be covered by my insurance for only $30, I purchased a $140 frame that originally costs $185.My insurance reduced the price to $150, but they gave me a $10 courtesy discount! when they could have only given me $20 discount. They also had to shave off my lenses so it would fit my new frames, and it only took 15 minutes! In addition to that, all the staff members there are very knowledgeable when it comes to eye wear. I found out the spare I was wearing was apparently unbalanced, which the eye doctor I went to never mentioned about it. They also had a great deal on contacts that I would purchase, in case I choose to change from glasses into contacts. I highly recommend coming here. In fact, I might even go here to do an eye exam instead of my current doctor! read more

I have been extremely nearsighted most of my life with a current prescription of -8.5 in both eyes. This has made finding glasses a real challenge and has always pushed me back to the convenience of contact lenses. I recently found out that wearing contact lenses on a daily basis was no longer an option for me. In need of a new pair of glasses, I reached out to a friend who recommended Josh from Nu Eyes. I stopped by Nu Eyes today to shop for frames and the experience exceeded my expectations on every level. As soon as I walked in, I was immediately greeted by several friendly staff members. I specifically asked for Josh, and although he was in the process of working with other clients, his coworker quickly stepped in to help me through the check-in process (i.e. first time client, insurance coverage, etc). Josh soon finished working with his clients and came over to help me select my frames. It was my first time shopping for frames in almost 7 years, so I had no idea what style I was going for or what was trending. Thankfully Josh was able to recommend a few frames as a starting point from both an aesthetic and logical (i.e. frames that are more feasible for higher prescriptions) point of view. This gave me a good idea of what I liked/disliked and he continued to tailor his recommendations based on my feedback while patiently waiting for me to decide on a frame. Not only was I impressed by the exceptional service, but I was also pleasantly surprised by how affordable the frames and the lenses (cut to ultra thin) were. Today was the least amount I ever spent on a brand new pair of glasses. When I thought that things couldn't get better, Nu Eyes went a step further and told me that I could leave the place with my new glasses the SAME DAY. I was introduced to George, who went above and beyond by staying late to order my lenses, cut my lenses, add extra coating to protect the lenses, place the lenses in the frame, and adjust the plastic frame to comfortably fit my face. I was so used to waiting 1-2 weeks for glasses and even contact lenses previously that I did not think it would be possible to go home with my new glasses today AND complimentary lens cleaning sprays. Great place! Speedy, Spacious, clean and friendly, helpful staff. The Dr. was super sweet. Crystal patiently helped me try on a bunch of frames until I found one I liked, and I'm pretty picky. =X Was told it would be ready in a week, but got a call from them just a couple of days later. I noticed a minor scratch on the frames once I got home and gave them a call. They were apologetic and told me bring them in, and they kindly ordered new ones for me, which arrived in just a couple of days also. Very happy with the experience at Nu Eyes! All of the doctors and staff are very helpful and knowledgeable. I've never had to wait long for an eye exam which is a huge plus, and everyone always takes the time to explain my insurance coverage and answer all of my questions which I appreciate. I have had eye exams conducted by both Dr. Ma and Dr. Yip and both of them are really nice and know what they are doing. I've bought one pair of eyeglasses and two pairs of prescription sunglasses from Nu Eyes and have loved each pair. Nu Eyes is located in an extremely accessible and convenient location and I am so grateful that I have found such a dependable business to provide all of my eyeglasses needs. I initially came to Nu Eyes after reading so many positive Yelp reviews. It was truly unfortunate that I did not receive the same quality service as so many others. After a great eye exam, I agreed on a prescription (+5.75 for both eyes) and chose a comfortable, stylish frame. Here's where my problems began. During pickup I noticed the lenses were too sharp, to the point of causing dizziness. It turned out the lens were wrong at a higher power. I took it as an honest mistake and asked for a lens change but was told since they were already cut, they would have to charge me for new ones. I was beyond furious. After arguing the best they offered was a 20% discount, and for their mistake. Needless to say I left and got lenses elsewhere. While they have a huge selection at reasonable prices, I sincerely hope nobody has to go through my experience. It was unfair and unprofessional. Anyone reading, please take this as a lesson that your best bet is to not visit Nu Eyes at all. read more

I first shopped with NuEyes end of summer 2012. Got great service and ended up getting 3 pairs of glasses for my 2 sons and I (even though I didn't need a new pair at the time). My son needed very high prescriptions and Dr. Ma even came over to explain things to us.... spent over $700 for this one pair just for him with extra thin/progressive lens. This time around January 2014, things are very different. Didn't feel the need to shop around, and just went in. found a pair of frame for my son immediately, and asked about the lens. Was quoted a price and I wanted to know if they can give me a discount (as most optical stores in the area always do). The girl came back and told me she misquoted me instead of the $300 it's actually gonna be $450 just for the lens and that's a final price (before frame)....mean while I am hearing the next sales giving her customer a "never-before" discount and it's just for her!! I waited patiently for my sales to look up the record and she came back 3 times telling me she cannot locate my son's record. I finally remembered it was around their grand opening and told her and her reply was "oh, that's a long time ago". I am a mother of 2 who doesn't live in the area and had to make special trips just to get things done in the area. I wasted 30 mins in there because she couldn't fine the record (oh yeah, she insisted my son has a different name that we used, REALLY?? ) and did not get the same pleasant experience I did a year and 3 months ago. I guess things changed and it's different now....I had to leave and ended up finding the same quality 1.74 high index for $295 before asking for a discount. I wouldn't have gone elsewhere if I felt that we got the service we deserved. I know getting a pair of glasses is not an IN and OUT experience, but her behavior ( she had a slight attitude) made me very uncomfortable. Nu Eyes is the best eye glasses store for variety, service and reasonable prices. I highly recommend Nu Eyes to friends and family. Nu Eyes was on top of things in making sure my glasses were processed timely and especially assisted me in working directly with the insurance company to make sure my glasses were properly covered. In the the 15+ years I've worn glasses, I always just settled with a pair. Nu Eyes is the first place where I didn't have to settle but instead actually found two pairs I absolutely love. The first was a regular every day glasses and I got my first prescription sunglasses at Nu Eyes too. It's absolutely fashionable and comfortable at the same time.
