They take walk-ins, which is great for the locals in the Flushing community. The pricing on the eye exam and contact lens exam is very competitive. I chose to come to him because the optometrists in midtown near me are all 2x 3x the price, and Dr. Xia is around the same price as my hometown in PA. (I have VSP eye insurance, but I still think the price for out of pocket is similar if not the same.) If you call, the folks on the phone are quite helpful. And I had a question (on New Years Eve!) about the way my exam was run through my insurance, and Dr. Xia himself called me the next day to answer my question. Very top service. I can't speak to the service and product around getting contacts or glasses in this shop, but the exam and physician service is very good value for money. I'm pretty much a beginner when it comes to eye glasses. They helped me pick a frame and got me a pair of reading glasses and a pair of progressives according to my prescription. Price was fair. Service was friendly. The place is cute and convenient. Got my glasses quickly. Here's where they really shine: I hated the progressives. Freaking HATED them. They told me I had... I think it was 60 days to return them if I wasn't happy. In that time, my dad was hospitalized for 3 weeks, wound up dying... we had the funeral, mourning... and by the time I was back on the road and trying to wear these damned glasses again, my 60 days were GONE. I bit the bullet though, went back and just asked them to change out the lenses for standard long distance lenses using the same frames. I knew I was going to pay... didn't even ask for a favor. I returned today to have the new lenses swapped out with my frames... it took about 5 minutes (I didn't realize I'd be able to wait for them and have it done so quickly), they're perfect now, and there was NO CHARGE. He listened to what I wanted and almost immediately handed me a pair that he believed would fit my big face best. Needless to say, it fit well and checked all of the boxes I was looking to check. I was distressed when I returned to the Park Slope store in January 2023 only to find it had closed. I tried to locate someone from the store but failed to locate anyone. My eyeglasses had shattered internally, and the visible cracks on both lenses were long and distracting. I'd never had a pair do this. I had always been treated with great customer care, and I now felt abandoned! I almost called the Better Business Bureau, but held off as I like to give the benefit of the doubt. Another local optometrist thought the lenses were plastic and not polycarbonate. That was impossible I thought! Needless to say, as I was about to spend another several hundred dollars at a new store, a new associate recognized me and told me Sam had to close due to higher rents! I never found their goodbye email! Well, Sam and I reconnected! He drove from Queens to my home in the Slope. He took my glasses personally to the Lab, replaced the lenses for free--I was just shy of the warranty--and hand-delivered them before he left on a month-long vacation with his family in Asia!!!
