Absolutely one of the worst customer service experiences I've had. Came in for a eye test, figuring I could knock out my contact prescription and my DMV eye test all at once. Was told that it was $50 (which I assumed was this price for the contact exam because eye tests are free at the DMV) and confirmed and acknowledged with the employee that this was for both at the beginning of transaction and the end. Eye check process was fine, doctor was friendly. Company I ordered contacts from told me that they were having trouble with verifying prescription. Called them the day after, and they informed me that this was two separate tests and would be an additional $95 (even after I verified twice??) and said a manager would be in contact to explain better the next day they're in. Week passes no call, and I'm put on the phone with one of the most unprofessional employees when I call back to see what's going on. Frustrating because I've been going here since I was young, and while the experiences haven't been anything to write home about, they've been good enough and this one really irked me enough to both make a yelp account and write this review. I have been coming to this place for years. However, their new optometrist Dr. Mary Chen is absolutely WONDERFUL. She was very sweet, knowledgeable, and thorough when I go for my annual eye checkup. She is also very patient and more than willing to answer any questions or concerns that I had. Her assistant Jane who helped check me in was super friendly. She let me know what my insurance covered and showed me the different types of contact brands including the price as well. She explained the options I had which were daily, every 2 weeks, or a month. She had a great attitude and gave awesome customer service. Both Dr. Mary Chen and Jane made me feel like I was taken good care of. Went here for an eye exam a few months ago. They didnt take my insurance so only did the exam. The front people were very kind and got me started. The doctor took me through all the tests to make sure I had the most accurate prescription possible. She even looked behind my eyes to make sure they were healthy. This has been one of the best experience yet! I walked in with a warm greeting and everyone was really friendly. There was a variety of frames that I got to choose from and prices were very reasonable. The salesmen was very helpful and gave many feedbacks on what type of frame would suit my face. Their service was amazing and everyone was very experienced in their job. I have recommended all of my family and friends here because they don't just have amazing service, but accepts many insurances which is a big PLUS! The facility was clean and the location is at the heart of Flushing which is awesome. It's very convenient and the staff was very helpful in guiding me through the process. They were able to communicate with them in fluent chinese so they were able to get fair service and price. Ever since i've been going by myself (10 years now), the service has been dismal at best and in order to get a decent price, i have to haggle as if i'm in a 3rd world country flea market. Went there recently and was greeted by a rude salesgirl. i go ahead and tell her i need replacement contacts while handing her a box of the exact pair and prescription i need. she goes ahead and drops a piece of paper and pencil on the counter and tells me to write my name. i do so and she walks away with it. she comes back 5 mins later and tells me its 45/box and its going to need to be ordered. she proceeds to fill out a sales sheet and i tell her that i don't agree with the price. she shows me my records and how much i've paid in the past. i tell her i don't care... she gives me the evil look of death. so i left. so today i get a call from 1800contacts regarding the order i placed last night. they tell me that Flushing optical doesn't have me on file as a patient... i find that funny since they easily found my record just the other day. read more

Horrible sales tactics. I've been having issues finding suitable plastic frames to fit my small face and thought an Asian dominated store might help with this. The sales person who attempted to assist knew very little about what he was showing me. I asked specifically for frames with a smaller bridge and he just started pulling random things down for me and trying to convince me that every thing will be alleviated by adjusting the ear-pieces (not true, from experience). He did not listen to the types of shapes that I wanted, thus showing me things that I absolutely did not want, repeatedly. While trying on frames, I would bend over to see how low the glasses fell and he criticized that I cannot do that to judge if they fit. Granted that they may fit a little better after adjustments, I do not live my life standing stick straight. When I asked to take down the model number of a particular pair of glasses for a return trip reference, the sales people promptly started to converse in Chinese. Little did they know, I understood what they were saying and one of them said to just copy down the brand name for me. I found this exchange very disrespectful and passive aggressive. Last note: sales people should freshen their breath before attempting to sell their products. An offensive odor equals an offensive experience for the customer. read more

You are not gonna believe what I've been through at this place! It is very unprofessional at their place, I feel like they take commission from their affiliated Doctor's office, they are like referring patients there without making responsible checkups. I went there try to get a pair of glasses, and the Doctor there told me that I have Glaucoma, I was like really surprised, because I actually just went to my eye doctor office not long ago and everything was fine. But the doctor at Flushing Optical insisted that I have problems and they refer me to Ian Chan MD office. My following experiences was very dramatic. I made an appointment with Ian Chan office at 2:30pm, I especially asked if they can see me on time, they said they sure can, I told them if they can't see me on time I am not even gonna bother to make appointments with them. So here I come, got there 2:30, however there is like 10 patients ahead of me, I waited till 4pm! They didn't ask any information from me, they took the referring slip from Flushing Optical then that's it, and they dilated my pupils ! They dilated my pupils without even telling me! And of course they didn't ask weather I drove! And I did drove from Long island that day! The funny thing is that after they dilated my pupils they are like Oops ! They are like Oops, we don't check for Glaucoma, they are a specialist for retina ! No one in that clinic ever said sorry to me! I was dilated for no reasons! They told me to go to another doctor and check for Glaucoma, if I go there quickly, i may get my eyes checked that day. So I was like, ok, I am not gonna argue with you anymore, so I went to another doctor they refer to. And that doctor told me, they couldn't check my eyes on the same day, because my pupils are dilated already! So Ian Chan office don't have the basic knowledge that pupils shall not be dilated in order to get glaucoma checked. The next day I canceled my important business meeting to go to the doctor's office again, and I was told my eyes are fine, I don't have glaucoma, yes, just like what my own eye doctor told me at the first place! So Flushing Optical, terrible place! if you want to risk your health and your safety, come here. read more

If I could give this place no stars, I would. They are rude and money-grubbing. My boyfriend recommended I check out their glasses because they offered really great prices on their frames. He had gotten his last few pairs of glasses from this place. So I called the store to find out if they accepted my insurance. The lady on the phone said she'd check, but then told me the system was down and to call back tomorrow. I asked her what their store hours were and she said Monday - Friday from 9am - 5pm. I asked her if they were open on Sundays and she said they were, but they don't take insurance on those days...which seemed strange to me, but I just accepted the excuse. Are their systems not up and running on the weekends? Are there no competent staff on hand on the weekends who can process insurance claims? When I verified for myself via my insurance company's website, I found Flushing Optical was listed as an in-network provider. So I figured they would accept my insurance. Two days later, it was a Friday and I walked into the store at around 2pm to look at some frames and all the salespeople were busy, so I waited for a bit. Then a lady behind the counter asked me what I would like. I said I was interested in getting a pair of glasses and I wanted to use my insurance. She promptly told me they were too busy to take insurance customers today and instead told me to come back next week. I was utterly furious because I had specifically taken the time out of my day off from work to trek through the snow and slush to look at glasses. So I asked if I could try on a few frames and I'd return next week to purchase them. She replied that they didn't have the time today to show me any frames. It became obvious to me that they didn't want my business and didn't want to sell me any glasses. They were going out of their way to make it difficult for me. Most likely, they don't make as big a profit margin from customers who use insurance and so was trying to discourage me from buying anything. But if that were the case, why does Flushing Optical even accept insurance? Why are they even listed under in-network providers on my insurance company's directory?! I would have given her a piece of my mind, but I didn't want to waste any more time with these people. I had a million other things to do that day, so just walked out. There is absolutely no reason to come here when there are so many other options in the city. The pair of frames they quoted me was not any cheaper than other optical stores I had inquired at. Don't bother...take your business elsewhere. Flushing Optical doesn't care about their customers - only how much money they can get for each transaction. read more

TL;DR: FLUSHING OPTICAL, YOU JUST LOST A VERY LONG-TIME CUSTOMER BECAUSE OF A LAZY SALES REP. SOMEBODY NEEDS TO BE FIRED. First off, I'll precursor this review by saying I've been going to Flushing Optical for over 10 years and have generally had an OK experience there. They lost my records once, but I was willing to overlook it because I hadn't been there a while. The experience I had today was by far the worst I've encountered in any retail establishment I've been to. I walked in and asked a makeup-caked young woman at the counter if they accepted my insurance (UHC). She replied that she would check. After a minute or so of typing on her computer, she informed me that UHC Vision's website was down and that I'd have to come back later. OK, weird that she wouldn't try calling the number on my insurance card but whatever. I left to run some errands and came back. So of course, the site was "still down". I suggested that she call the number on my card and for some reason, she refuses and tells me I HAVE TO DO IT. OK, I want my glasses so I comply. I call the number where the automated speaker makes it very clear that the optician/eyewear center should be calling (they asked me questions like "what is the physicians name? what is your customer's insurance number? and what is your fax number? -- basically all questions that a SALES REP, not a customer should be answering). From the call, I learned that UHC had a NEW website for their vision division and that it DID not require authorization, as the rude sales rep (i wish I'd gotten her name in retrospect. She was wearing a lot of makeup and had a mole on her face) had asked for. The automated service also gave a list of my benefit information over the phone. I tried to hand my phone (yes, I had to call using my own phone) to the sales rep but she refused to take it because she was chit-chatting with her friend. What. Fine. I told her that they didn't need authorization and the name of the new website. She rudely answered that she was already going to the new website (yeah ok) and that I still needed to give her the benefit information. She told me to have my UHC fax it over to them -- so I'd have to make the same call AGAIN. I politely asked her if she could make the call instead and she refused. All I have is this: Dear bitch, I am a customer. I am not here to do your job while you fck around pretending to work, waiting for a rich dude to come in and marry your ugly ass. Quit dreaming and start doing your fucking job. And if there's any doubt left regarding the "technical malfunction" she claimed the UHC website was having: I went to Hunter Optical down the streets 10 minutes later and the bro who helped me pulled up my benefit information in three minutes flat. Bam. Step up your game, Flushing Optical. Lose the dead weight of a sales rep manning the rightmost counter by the window on Monday afternoons. read more

Irregardless of your ethnicity, the eye doctor here on Tues - Sat is disgusting. He is just lazy and wants to rush you out of your eye exam the second you sit down in his seat. I felt like I was being cheated out of an accurate eye exam and really couldn't trust his assessment when he was rushing me through my visuals. All my family members come here, yet every time we come here the service gets worse and worse. There was this one fat and ugly lady (presumably the manager) who was "serving" me, if you can even call it that, who had THE WORST attitude towards me. I had an employee named Stanley help me and he was both patient and kind. Even though the store was busy with people, I never felt rushed and Stanley helped me choose out my perfect pair of glasses. Worst place to get your glasses. Overpricing and worst customer service ever. The ladies were super duper rude. If I could give 0 star I would have done so. I needed to replace lenses due to prescription change. The lady asked me to pay extra $60 with an attitude. When I got the glasses 3 months ago, no one explained a word abt my rights and possible services. So basically, they r done with you once you paid. My friend recommended the local BJ optical to me and I got my second pair glasses there. I had a great experience at BJ Optical, excellent customer service. I was also amazed by the kids' plan of BJ Optical. For kids' glasses, one pair is only $69 and two pairs for $109. It also provides a FREE 6 month insurance on kids' glasses. That means replacement of frame and lense are $15 each within 6 months. Since kids tend to break their frames and kids' prescriptions change all the time, Isn't this a wonderful benefit? In conclusion, I regretted that I didn't check the reviews before I made the purchase at the Flushing Optical Inc. Well, I will not go back to this Flushing Optical ever. I've been coming here for about 10 years now because they take my insurance and all my experiences here have been pleasant. The staff greets me when I walk into the store with smiles, and the doctors who do the eye exams are good. They are very thorough with the exams, not rushed at all. The staff in the front are quick and nice. In my last visit there, Andy helped me with everything. From doing the auto reflect (the thing where they have you sit and look at the little house on the prairie) to showing me the frames and helping me try on many (basically the whole store) pairs of glasses, he did wonderful job assisting me. This place is a scam. I went here to get my mom glasses about 3 years ago. I was skeptical that a pair of glasses should cost over $600 but my mom trusted them and the frames were Ferragamo brand so I got them for her. Not even a year later the hinge around the nose area starts rusting and the color starts to come off in parts of the frame. Then the lens starts getting foggy from scratch marks. Now when she puts on the glasses it looks like some plastic over glass. It's foggy and has many many scratches. If it's real glass, it should not be so easy to scratch. He quickly found the best one for me to see clear. Also, he checked the health of my eyes and asked me some questions. Then recommended me several kinds of artificial drops that could relieve my eyes. Regarding the frames and lenses, they have a lot of choices. Digital block is recommended by the representative because I use computer a lot. They overall have great price, great services, and choices. I asked for work-type glasses (you know, the kind of specs that get strangers to think you're a conscientious person). Niki chuckled, and said, Sure. So she helped me find a cute Coach pair that did just that. The price tag was $106.54--but she was right. They were perfect. The frames were purple, instead of black or turtoise shell or clear. Niki reassured that the specs helped brighten my complexion. Heartened, I asked whether she could spare me any discounts on sunglasses if I bought a pair that same visit. After she helped me pick out a pair of clear Marc Jacobs ("oh, wow, those are very loud...but I think you can pull it off"), a discount was just what I got. If you ordered anything there, you have to check with them frequently for your order status. they will only call you once and if you missed the call, they will leave you alone without other notifications Here is what happened: I went to the store to order contact lenses and their store manager assisted me.
