This is our new "go to" place when we want take out. Thai curry uses fresh ingredients and the portion is generous. We tried the Mongolian beef and beef was tender and sauce tasty (my husband's input). Calamari would probably be better if eaten right after frying but all things considered it was also surprisingly good! They have all the typical sushi and rolls you find in just about any US sushi joints. Overall, the quality and the flavor of the food we ordered was good. I had a head cold for days, was craving some spicy Asian food. Had driven past this place while shopping at City Market, wanted to try it out. Walked in, OH MY, this is a SUSHI place. Not quite what I was expecting, but I'm here, might as well try it out. I ordered the Philadelphia roll, which had smoked salmon, cream cheese, and cucumber. When I got it, there were eight pieces. I think they added a little spicy ginger to the roll, because SOMETHING lit up my tongue and got my sinuses going, which is what I needed. The roll came with something that was thinly sliced and pickled. I was hesitant to ask what it was, fearing it might be eel or something icky. Finally got the nerve to ask the food server, it was thinly sliced pickled ginger. I found it "interesting" and managed to eat it. For $9.95, this was worth it, and was exactly what I needed. For an Asian restaurant, this will be one UNIQUE experience. I did notice some people brought babies in here. WHY? Babies and kids don't like this kind of food. read more

Service was super slow. The food was mediocre for the price you pay. The chicken and broccoli had some weird orange tasting sauce. I didn't order orange chicken. I wouldn't expect that type of flavor, but there it was. The rice was dry and a tad crunchy, almost like it had been refrigerated and rewarmed. I think this place is 1.5 stars. There are many reasons for this decision. First I must say, the sushi is sometimes usually exceptional and the hibachi is always fun. For some reason, I don't like any of the entrees that you can order directly off the menu. They are generic and tasteless. In the off season, the 50% off offers are a popular thing. I've loved coming here since this place opened a few years back. But in the last 6-12 months, I really find the quality lacking in many areas. First place it's lacking? Cleanliness. This place is disgusting. The bathrooms look like they get cleaned only once a month. There is a thick layer of dust all over the restaurant. The glass is dirty with little kid fingerprints and boogers. Even our sushi boat had some baked on roll from a previous diner. The hibachi side always always has excellent service from the chefs to waiters. The sushi side however, I feel rushed and a "turn em and burn em" attitude. I rarely see a server after we get our order on the table. And the servers and downright RUDE. Will I come back? Sure, right after they do a deep clean of everything. Sure, for 50% off. Sure, with friends from out of town who want dinner and a show (hibachi). Until then, come on in for a mediocre at best sushi experience. The sushi itself might be delish. read more

Came on Christmas, one of the few places that was open. Service was excellent, food (we got mostly Thai) was not great. It was VERY heavy and greasy, not very hot, and not too flavorful. Maybe sushi would have been better, but it was 5 F and we were in the mood for something hot. Plus, it was expensive, a little more than $20 a person. Interestingly enough this place is a hybrid Japanese and Thai restaurant. I don't know about the owner but the waiter/waitress are Chinese - they're good at their job. Prompt and courteous service. The lunch bento is a great deal - $7.50 for a bento box that includes a bowl of miso or hot & sour soup, a bowl of salad with yummy Japanese salad dressing first. Then the actual box with a mound of white rice, three pieces of vegetable tempura (we received 1 slice of zucchini, 1 slice of carrot, 1 slice of onion), 3 pieces of California Roll (which were slightly small but okay in flavor), a pile of edamame (pleasant surprise and always reliably good), and your choice of Thai entree (some options include: panang curry, red/yellow/green curry, basil chicken). The pile of the thai entree was pretty big. My yellow curry had a kick to it and had baby corn, pineapple, chicken (you can also choose tofu, pork, and beef I think), water chestnuts, green bell peppers, carrots. In the end I wasn't able to finish any more than half my entree but would gladly have brought it home if I lived nearby. Good ambience, not that busy on a President's Day Monday around noon. Just ordered take out from Nozawa...our first time there and...I can tell that, like any restaurant they do some things really well...others not so much. Their sushi looks amazing...wish I had ordered that. My husband had yellow curry with tofu....delicious. Smelled amazing. I ordered sesame chicken. More batter than anything which was disappointing. Very little evidence of sesame seeds. The batter was a bit mushy. This was more like sweet and sour chicken and, the chicken? Hard to find. Vegetarian egg rolls, crispy but oddly mushy inside, not a lot of evidence of crispy veg. So, if eating here, and I will definitely try it again, but will stay away from anything fried. I had originally wanted yakisoba with chicken that was on their on line menu but, not actually on the new menu. We also visited Nozawa during the off-season, however we only received 20% each item. The sushi side of the restaurant was about half full, most of which was a large prom group. The service was decent, nothing special, the waitress didn't bother to really engage with us. I had a few different sushi rolls, they were OK (being in Colorado you can't have your expectations too high.) The rest of our party had the chicken stirfry and the teriyaki chicken, neither was very good. The stirfry was very bland, overly chewy noodles and over-cooked chicken. The teriyaki was decent, but how good or bad can teriyaki really be? We had high hopes for good japanese in Summit county, but I doubt we will be back. The sushi is decent, but I would steer clear of the rest of the menu. read more

It's been over a year since I've last gone to Nozawa. I wanted to give them another chance and I'm glad I did. Our server was super helpful and friendly and our sushi was fantastic! The sake bombs were awesome as well. The last time I had gone there our server was rude and the whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth. As a big connoisseur of sushi, I think this place was alright given that it is one of the only sushi places in Keystone, it really wasn't that bad. The prices were a little high, but that's to be expected in a touristy location. Overall, I would recommend sitting at the grill and getting your food "hibachi or benihana style" or order the sashimi. If this had been half off I might have given it 2 stars- the full prices during the ski season are absolutely RIDICULOUS- $16-18 for a roll and $3-4 for ONE piece of sushi. The menus were wet- the pages were sticking together- and my menu was missing some critical pages. The low quality food did not improve the experience. Our gyoza tasted fishy and were roughly the size of a quarter. The hot and sour soup tasted like they'd added water to stretch it. The Tom Yum was actually decent. The service takes the cake for the worst part of the experience. After over an hour of waiting for our sushi to arrive they informed us that they were actually out of something we'd ordered so we had to reorder. Glad we waited... The sushi was roughly what I expected from the mountains. Which leads me to return to my previous conclusion that you probably shouldn't eat sushi this far from Denver. read more

The place is one of the loudest restaurants in the County and the tables are placed so close together, that you are basically eating with strangers. And if the din of an overstuffed dining room with absolutely no ambience isn't enough for you, the music is played so loud, you want to run away! It's quite obvious the staff has had little or no training (common in Summit County), and really could care less if you're there or not. It was very busy when we first arrived especially because it was a Sunday night. Took about 20 minutes to get seated. And the waiting room was fairly small. It is not the restaurant's fault since it is a busy town,though. When we did get seated, it took a while for the servers to come by and give us waters. Then they left again, and took even longer to get our orders. Prices were pretty high, but then again, it is a pretty busy town and they had to get some income. Food was good. Hands down worst sushi I've ever had. $18 rolll tasted like there was three day old canned tunafish in it. I wish it could have had it tested somewhere. No exaggeration. My appetizer was sub-par. If I could give zero stars I would. Ordered to go tonight easy fried rice and apps. After 30 minutes I asked if it was done they said no that they would call when it was at 50 minutes I asked again they said no I asked for refund then 5 minutes later my food miraculously appeared and was done. Ok, I admit it. I was more than a little wary of sushi restaurants in the High Country. After all, the fish must be flown in or trucked in so how fresh can it be? Well, call me cynical no more. After a meal of various specialty rolls at Nozawa I'm effectively changing my tune. I was fully surprised at how good the sushi rolls were and the freshness of the fish. I admit the atmosphere and decor are a bit lacking, but the food was good - better than my expectations and when you're craving sushi as I often do, that craving needs to be quelled. Nozawa also happens to be conveniently located near our ski house and is right off Dillon Ridge Rd. which is easily accessible from Silverthorne or Keystone. They also offer Teppanyaki in addition to sushi. If you find yourself in the mountains and looking for sushi, then you should do yourself a favor and visit Nozawa. read more

I absolutely hate when a restaurant that used to have at least 4 Star Service go to crap. I hadn't been to Nozawa's in a few years and I expected the exact amount of service and speed it used to have. It took 1 hour for 3 sushi rolls and some curry fried rice. People who were seated next to us a half hour to 45 mins later, got their food before us. Never have I ever been so embarrassed to recommend a place. 2 stars because the food is good.
