First time here and we loved it. Read all the negative reviews and had a completely different experience. We both pretty much kicked our plates. The only negative of the experience was the mean-mugging/RBF chick with a black headband and maroon slip on shoes at the front entrance that was rude/antisocial to me when I walked in to ask about gluten free (celiac wife) and then my wife later when she asked for the restrooms. Highlight: Lindsay who saw me struggling to get help from the mean-mugger when I walked in and jumped all over the menu and options and made it clear that my wife would enjoy her meal (again, celiac). Turns out a minute later when wifey walked in and we were seated...Lindsay was our server!! Woot woot! Gave my wife the whole shpeal, normal egg/omelettes, substitutions, all of the house sweet pastries are gluten free, etc. Wife had more options than she wanted. I got the biscuits and gravy: lots of sausage! Ice tea and coffee were great. Got 4 refills of tea and offered more than needed coffee. Contrary to other reviews (maybe if the mean-mugger waits tables some day). The other servers were hustling and working. We travel a lot and try a lot of new restaurants: this place will be a staple in our Bozeman rotation. We'll also ask for Lindsay. read more

We went here twice - on our way in and out of Yellowstone - for one of the only vegan breakfast places in town! They have a full vegan menu (you just have to ask for it!) It's a super cute spot with friendly employees and great coffee (they have coconut and almond milk.) it also seems super community oriented. We tried the breakfast burrito, the veggie scramble and the waffle! The waffle and burrito are great - I'd skip the scramble or get without tofu (it's sort of a sad, limp tofu.) is it the break vegan breakfast I've ever had? No. But it Was tasty and great atmosphere in an area without a lot of options! Def worth the visit! read more

Seriously, I LOVE the benedicts! All of them. Sometimes I order extra hollandaise because they can be a bit stingy, it is literally amazing hollandaise though. I can get a little carried away dunking my potatoes in too! A usually go for benedicts, but sometimes I like to branch out and try a special or a scramble. Always delicious and interesting combinations with local flair! One thing that is absolutely to DIE FOR as well is the homemade tomato jam found on the breakfast sandwich. I even went so far as to try and replicate it... I may need to go undercover to get that recipe!!! The breakfast here is excellent! I ordered the omelet with avocado, cheese, and green chile peppers. A great decision. The cinnamon toast with it was also bomb. We placed an order to go on the way to Yellowstone, and were very pleased with the quick and friendly service we received. I would love to stop and try more of what their menu has to offer if we ever pass that way again. The breakfast items were expertly done and well worth the detour on our road trip. Ahhh, Millennials (and I'm BARELY older than they are)... OVERALL: Once I got going on this review, I realized how long it was, so if you are interested in the dirty details, they are below. If you just want a quick impression, here it is: expect terrible service and food that delivers less than you would expect given the quality of ingredients, in a mediocre environment. SERVICE: Normally I don't feel the need to be so specific with times, but I happened to catch it when we walked in, and in light of the other reviews, I felt it pertinent... We put in our drink order with the host who seated us at 12:17. They brought mine promptly, but got it wrong (I asked for an iced Americano with cream. It came hot and without cream.). At 12:30 my husband finally got his iced tea--after we asked a 2nd time via our waiter, who took our order at 12:27. Looking around, this appeared to be a similar experience to what the other diners were enduring. After that part, though, I don't have any specific complaints about the service. We managed to get out of there at 1:00 with a little prompting on our part (asking for the bill, etc.). FOOD: I had the toasted goat cheese salad, which is described as having goat cheese croquettes with an almond coating. Apparently the chef doesn't know what a croquette is (a deep fried ball of deliciousness), because what I got was about a 4 Oz. lump of warm goat cheese with a few nuts sprinkled on top of it (they were cashews, because they were out of almonds, which I didn't mind). With that said, the goat cheese was great, the greens were fresh, and the vinaigrette offered a sweet reprieve from the "funkiness" of the cheese. However, the ratios were way off, because there were only about 2 cups of greens for the giant hunk of cheese and a light drizzle of the much needed dressing. In contrast, my husband ordered a breakfast burrito, which was the size of his head! He added black bean chili and jalapeños, which he said he was glad he did, or it would have been bland and dry. Once I got my coffee fixed, it was AMAZING, though! And I do like that they source local, sustainable ingredients, which seemed fresh! AMBIANCE: Overall, it had kind of a retro, yet sterile feel. Colorful venue, mediocre service, artisan food. The interior is very colorful with brightly painted walls, framed art displayed, and homey wooden booths. Two single stall "either" "or" labelled restrooms made me stop and think for a moment before picking a door. Overall it is very inviting. Took a little while to meet our waitress. She brought us the wrong drinks then disappeared for 5 minutes before she returned to fix it. After our food came she became more attentive so maybe she was just overwhelmed initially. She was very friendly. The food is excellent. A true artisan is at work in the kitchen. No dairy butternut squash bisque that is soft as silk. The best eggs Benedict I've found anywhere. They use a tomato jam in their Nova BLT, which was superb. They seem to take the time to make all of the little touches that put food over the top. Everything was very fresh. The wait was a long one, the service wasn't that great, however, the food.....pretty great. We weren't surprised by the wait after reading all the great reviews. Plus, you can order coffees while you wait so that sweetened up the deal. And the coffee is Rockford, which is delicious. The service, well, it's always disappointing to get poor service. We waited several minutes to even order a drink after being seated and even longer to place our food order. To our waitresses' defense, she was the only person serving all of the outdoor tables. So, maybe they should staff that section a bit more?? Just a suggestion. My hubby ordered a meat lovers omelet and was thrilled by the size & taste. They use Montana meats and you could taste the freshness. I ordered the kid's French toast which was delish and the perfect portion. It came with one slice of French toast, one egg, and one meat. Early snow fall in downtown Bozeman, what a warm cozy oasis to walk into for breakfast. Love the name. In our group was a vegetarian, bacon fan, two kids and a health snob and every single person left happy. Big portions. Staff was very friendly, prompt and the bathrooms were clean. Even though they tasted good, 4 breakfast burritos cost $66 and it was definitely NOT worth the price. 5+ years ago when I last lived in Bozeman the burritos were huge! It's back and better than ever! Well Nova Cafe you did it...You won me over again. Whatever has been changed in the last few years is for the best. I had the special Goat Chevre Benedict for breakfast and it was fantastic. I think it could have come out of the kitchen a little bit quicker as it was bordering luke warm, but even then it was to-die-for-food. Do not expect to come here on a weekend though and wait any less than 30 minutes to 1 hour unless you get there very early. The wait did not bother me though because I expect it. If you select first available I imagine the wait would not be more than 20 minutes. However in the summer I sit only on the patio/sidewalk and it is the only way I roll! They have expanded the restaurant seating however to accommodate more people so that is good. On the weekend they open up the other side for more seating and it makes the wait less terrible. Prior to being seated I had a latte which was made to perfection. Not a big fan of the beans they use in their espresso because they are not that tasty and a bit bold for my taste. I prefer the smoother flavor over the bold. But to each their own! read more

Waited over 2 hours to sit down and get food. No joke! The food was delicious, but not sure the wait was worth it. Found this place after stopping by Bozeman on the way to the airport. Good thing we had six hours to kill. I don't usually like to leave negative reviews but, this was an excessive time to wait. I could hear other people talking to the waitress about not receiving food in a timely matter too. I felt bad for her as it wasn't her fault. On a good note, the kids menu was really nice compared to junk food that is usually offered for kids. Would I come back probably not. I will add that the waitress did take off $25 from the bill. Server, Kaylene (sp), was either slammed with tables or not in to it on Tuesday morning. It did seem that overall they were short staffed. Food took way too long in being served. In fact, the single patron that sat down 10 minutes after us was served first. The dried fruit in my acai bowl was frozen since it sat in the fridge so long. The nova soch scramble was good, just good, but it was probably one of the most unappetizing dishes I've ever seen. It legit looks like cat vomit. My favorite breakfast place... My husband and I eat here regularly, and whenever family or friends come to town, this is our favored place to show off Bozeman. We love that they source as much of their ingredients locally as possible. And we love the variety in their specials, in addition to all the great things on the regular menu. I usually order Myli's Mess. The tomato jam on it just puts it over the top. Specials I've had that I still remember years later were fried trout and French toast made from banana bread. Wow. Pleasant staff. Bright, clean cheerful setting with a touch of old town architecture. Delicious and unique food. What's there not to like? Waiting staff was ever ready to address any questions we had. Are you sure you can pull up the online menu? Do you want me to get you a hard copy instead? Do you want more coffee? Would you want a table, small booth or big booth? In response to any question "Of course, I would be happy to do that." All delivered with a sincere, heartfelt empathy. When I expressed my dilemma regarding two very appealing choices in the menu, the huevos rancheros was endorsed by acclamation voiced by all but one waitress and a fellow customer. I don't know how it was done, but the tortilla in the huevos struck just the right balance between crusty and soggy. The black bean chili was savory, with just a touch of spicy. A clean plate presented itself in moments. Jana enjoyed bacon, asparagus and brie on top of two halves of a delicious toast. Verdict: perfect. As promised we re visited the Nova Cafe in Bozeman. The Huevos Rancheros were just as good as last time. My Forager breakfast made with Tofu was good but not as good as the first time I had it. There could have been more tofu and it was all a tad bit dry. The real reason for one less star this time wasn't for the food, rather it was about the Wait. This used to be our absolute favorite breakfast spot for our annual New Years ski trip to Bozeman. But this year unfortunately will be our last for NOVA. We went two times this past week. The first time it was a bit crowded and for two of us it took 30 minutes for seating and another 45 to order and get food. However, the second time the restaurant was half empty and it took over an hour for us to get any food. Additionally, they told us 3 different times that it would be 'out in 10 min'. We saw this place had a lot of reviews so thought we would give it a try. The menu had a couple vegan options we thought we would try for breakfast. We got the forbidden black rice bowl. My advice to anyone ordering this ask for no oil. It was so oily that as soon as she set it down we knew we would never eat that. When ordering black rice kale and sweet potatoes one expects a healthy experience and this was so far from healthy its not even funny. Waitress was sweet and did not charge us. If you like typical unhealthy bacon fried foods etc to start your day then you will give 5 stars but I thought it was going to be a healthy place. In my fly fishing travels to Montana each year, there are a few stops I HAVE to make. One is breakfast (hopefully on the sidewalk) at Nova Cafe' in downtown Bozeman. It's a one off. Now I come in from the mountains to eat here so I suppose you could say I'm just plain hungry and biased since there are those who don't like this place. Sry... Traveling folks have to have a favorite breakfast, lunch, dinner, bar, music club and secret place in every city. In Bozeman hands down it's NOVA. Ok, I'll admit I have a nova sticker on my truck and I've put on the fake nova tattoo. But you have to understand that that's because they have the coolest logo for breakfast.... ever! A skull and crossbones made from two eggs and bacon. Come on!!!! Everything and Anything I've ever ordered was 'beautiful'. Oatmeal, Eggs, Bakes, Burittos, coffee, tea, toasts, they are all "thought out" who has Bennedict in eggs, salmon, crab and whatever else they can think of? Servers as pros, and it's a cool chic diner atmosphere. When in Bozeman... there is only one choice friends.
