Just wow. I haven't gotten food poisoning in a while. I have work tomorrow and can't sleep due to the obvious symptoms. . . I asked for the Forager to be converted into a Benedict. Waiter was polite and friendly, helpful, and got my requests without confusion. Some of the guys here working are very nice. The problem was the food arrived cold and was complete and utter slop---English muffin wasn't toasted; artichokes/mushrooms/red pepper/spinach were still refrigerator cold and seemed to be old and out of a can; the eggs were supposed to be poached medium and instead were nearly raw and lukewarm. The flavor was bland and quite frankly, embarrassing. I only ate it because I was starving, and complaining about something at this place is usually met with supercilious eye rolling and entitled whining from the waitress. The one in ridiculous stockings is the absolute worst! You ask for something sent back and it isn't improved if it comes back. This is the 4th time I've gone in here (over a year and a half) and gotten cold eggs. Clearly this is a systemic issue and I have a good mind to call the Health Department. Do they not even have warming lamps? If you serve a cold breakfast repeatedly you should be shut down! Or is this intentional because you don't want my business? Why aren't more people complaining about this?! Between this place and Feed, I wish Bozeman had higher standards for something as simple as eggs and toast! If you can't make either correctly and consistently you have no business operating a breakfast restaurant. Serena seems pretty arrogant and greedy to allow this dangerous slop to be served without taking appropriate action, even after she's been advised of it. Anywhere else would do something to fix the problem instead of just "I hope you'll give us another chance" without a refund or gift certificate to give said slop another chance. "We'll fix it" and they don't. It's just the same incompetent, overpriced swill! Oh. The Belgian waffle was fine. But how hard is it to ruin a waffle? My potatoes were actually good and the rosemary was the only good flavoring, but my companion's version on their plate were just tiny little crisps without any center. Inedible. This is Bozeman's typical 3/5 star place that has inundated the downtown. Allow me to elaborate: All but a couple of our downtown restaurants fall into one of two categories. (A), a 3.5 star food, with a 2.5 star atmosphere, or; (B), a 2.5 star food, with a 4 star atmosphere. This joint fits the former description. Food: Most stuff isn't "Sysco in a can" like 75% of today's restaurants. For example, both the biscuits and the gravy are made in-house. Quite a few items feature (not quite) local, but at least regional suppliers. Kudos! Having been about 8 times, I can say 6 of the 8 meals were better than average. 2 were cold. (See: "Service" below) Drink: This isn't a place that will serve a Mimosa. I really doubt they ever will. I'm sure you'll love a bottle of $8, strange cold-pressed juice equally as much. Atmosphere: They like to cultivate that "trendy" vibe. (Read: out-of-state transplants). I don't care for that "vibe" while eating breakfast. For example: You're apt to see a lot of "Man Bun" hairstyles on men who frequent the establishment, and Caucasian women with dreadlocks. Because they went for "pseudo-retro" seating -- the comfort of the chairs and booths are rivaled only by your local Taco Bell. Also, expect a 45+ minute wait to be seated on the weekends. Service: As you might have already assumed, the attitude of the service employees is mirror image of the clientele discussed above. In a town with an economy based on tourism and millennial college students, you're not going to get a refill after your first cup of coffee. Come to think about it, I've been waiting a month now for my refill. Don't worry, that hipster Waite(r/ress) is preoccupied with finishing a thesis on how modern day snowboarding has strange parallels with the way we once ignored the feelings of the Canadian Thistle weed in 1994. Clearly The Nova Cafe is a BIG deal in Bozeman but what's with the stank attitude from the baristas? We didn't come here for breakfast because frankly while this place may claim to have the best breakfast in Bozeman, I live in a Brunch Capital and I don't have time to wait around on vacation. We stopped in at the to-go side to get a coffee and ended having to wait as long as the breakfast wait for a Peet's level coffee not even getting close to Blue Bottle or Stumptown. After waiting more than 10 minutes, the French Spouse asked the barista about her drink and was told that there were 30 Cafe orders a head of her. Call me nuts but wouldn't you have two lines going for the to-go stuff and the cafe orders? I think she just forgot our drinks because 2 second later they magically appeared but an apology did not. We went down the street to the Western Cafe and had an awesome breakfast. If you live in Bozeman good on you for having a Cafe that tries to act like it's located in NYC or SF but remember you aren't and keep that attitude in check. read more

Service can be a little slow sometimes. The servers can be hit or miss and you may encounter an attitude if you get the wrong server. Food isn't bad but nothing to write home about. And who the hell rates a restaurant poorly based on the quality of their WiFi? I went in by myself a few mornings ago while my car was being worked on around the corner. The host was super sweet and accommodated to my request to be sat at a smaller table and more secluded. I had a lovely waitress who was super friendly and never rushed me out as I was in her section of tables for a little longer than one would be. I got the "Tom Avo" and it was the best Benedict I've had in a long time. I loved it and I will definitely be back! Great staff and great food. Can't get better:) read more

Best breakfast place in town hands down. This is where the locals go, as said by a certified local, me. We came at opening the other day and there were 10 people waiting outside, all served immediately--that's a sign of good service. If you want a sure bet, order the early bird special or their buttermilk pancakes. Prices are reasonable, especially for a breakfast place downtown. Unlike other breakfast places downtown, Nova focuses on food quality rather than solely ambience and attraction of tourists. I'd highly recommend the bacon as well. All in all, I go to Nova often, and never have a problem. read more

The Nova Cafe is a bit of an enigma for me. I have had absolutely wonderful breakfasts there; I have had absolutely terrible breakfasts there. I love that they use a lot of local products; I hate that they beat you over the head with their use of local products ... we get it. I went there this morning. It was not busy, which is rare. But the service was not good, which is not rare. The food this morning however reached new lows. The potatoes were unrecognizable as potatoes. They were hard chunks of burnt matter. The bacon was cold and greasy. The eggs were swimming in grease. I was honestly surprised at just how poor it was. I just don't know about this place. I know I won't recommend it to anyone. Some hipster friends of mine will love it as it is the hipster nexus for Bozeman. But folks that like breakfast ... I think I'll keep silent to them. read more

I don't understand why people are complaining about waiting in long lines here. Just call ahead and have them put your name down. Come on, don't be a dining rookie folks!! We had breakfast here twice over the 4th of July long weekend. I called 40 mins before hand for a party of 5. When we arrived, we waited 3 mins. This was the 1st time. Two days later, for a party of 8, I called 45 mins ahead of time and upon arrival, we waited only 2 mins. Service was great on both occasions. I especially love that they have smoothies on their menu. I asked on both days that I came to have spinach added to my smoothies...no problem. And it was delicious. It's a breakfast/brunch/lunch spot with nothing in the menu that is out of the ordinary per se. My wife, mom-in-law, cousins-in-laws (all from Montana) really enjoyed this place. I am from San Francisco where space is limited, so I was very pleased with so much space in between tables so that you can move around and not be sitting on top of someone. What a wonderful place to soak up the friendly Bozeman culture! My husband and I were just passing through Bozeman during a long road trip, and decided to treat ourselves to breakfast on the way out of town. We stopped into Nova, a colorful, buzzing cafe, on a Sunday. Though there were people in line in front of us, we enjoyed fresh coffee while we sat waiting for a table to open up. Our wait - on a Sunday morning - was only about 10 minutes. Our server was SO friendly and attentive, while not being overly so. I enjoyed cottage-cheese pancakes with a berry compote, and my husband ate the meat lover's omelette, which allowed him to sample some of the local meats. We loved our food, and would recommend to everyone that we know to stop and enjoy a meal at Nova. Such a treat. read more

The Nova is one of those places that is just so darn adorable that you have to keep returning. From the hostess fawning over my "amazing" and "vintage" camera strap to the charming dining room, it's simply irresistible! The service is always impeccable: quick and very affable. Further, The Nova serves what is arguably the best breakfast in Bozeman (with good competition from the Western and Stormcastle). Best breakfast sandwich in Bozeman, hands down! I was never a huge fan of Nova, until I embarked on a quest to find the best breakfast sandwich in Bozeman. Full disclosure, I have pretty steep requirements. It needs to be flavorful, with crispy bacon and scrambled not fried eggs. It needs to be big, but easy to eat. I've tried a lot of different places in town and none of them can touch The Nova Cafe. Scrambled eggs with crispy bacon and melted white cheddar cheese on a couple soft slices of ciabatta bread with a savory tomato jam. I usually ask them to scramble in some jalapeños for an extra bite. Straight up, this sandwich has changed my life. read more

The service was pretty terrible, but I got the sense that was part of their shtick, in that they go out of their way to provide shitty service. My Montana streak continues... I've been to Nova cafe for lunch twice in the last week and a half and I really like it. It isn't fancy or overly clever... but the service is good and the food is simple, delicious fare. The breakfast is especially wonderful - featuring items like cottage cheese pancakes with strawberries and fresh, seasonal omelets. Breakfast is served all day, of course. :) My favorite thing to get is the grilled pear salad, add chix. The pears are served warmly grilled over the top and the ranch dressing is home-made!!!! I'll be here many more times in the coming two weeks... so if you are looking for me, come and check at Nova Cafe!!! read more

We've been to the Nova Cafe twice now, and have loved it both times. The food is locally sourced, very fresh, and delicious. The atmosphere is fun and eclectic. It was busy both times we went, but it was worth the wait. The staff here is, well...hit or miss. The first time we were there, or waitress was wonderful. Very attentive even though we sat outside. The second time, our waiter was ok. He was slightly flippant with us, and pretty much ignored my son. And when my 7 year old child had difficulty deciding what he wanted, our waiter got impatient. Grow up, man. He's a kid. I must have given him the NY Sicilian look of death or something, because he kinda straightened up after that. Great coffee, though! Had nothing but a wonderful experience at Nova! Lattes were amazing and had Eggs Benedict two morning in a row off their special board and both were amazing and original takes on a breakfast staple! Their breakfasts are delicious; everything from a rustic, locally-sourced wild turkey hash to stuffed french toast to basic eggs and bacon is well-executed and delicious. Sweet potato pancakes and waffles are a seasonal must in the fall and winter. I hear the lunch menu is just as good, but why bother with breakfast available until close? This is one of my favorite breakfast places in Bozeman! The food is delicious! It's local ingredients with homemade taste, but the prices aren't too bad and the portions are decent. I love the local TLC tea. Service is slow and not great, I'll warn. But as long as I get that plate of deliciousness in front of my face, it's something I'm willing to deal with. They also have long waits on the weekends, so be prepared! But you can order drinks from the coffee bar to hold you over til you get a table. read more

Did you know you can order "healthy/diet" options here? I just found out you can order egg whites, items cooked in olive oil or other reduced calorie options. Since I love to eat out especially for breakfast, this is a fantastic option when keeping calories in check, but sometimes you just have to account for the butter, syrup and real eggs and go for it! : ) Another perk of Nova is the constant flow of coffee while you are waiting. I usually try to get there prior to the crowd, but if I don't, I love to sit and drink endless amounts of coffee. I think the staff is good, they are definitely not super crazy fake happy but that is not a bad thing. They are nice and do their job well. I have never noticed a lack of good service. I have never been there for lunch so can't say anything about lunch. read more

Really sweet spot to visit! Our table ordered every variety of benedict they had and they were all amazing- I had the argyle and the locavore, which were probably my favorite, but the tomato and avocado might be on my next order if I ever find myself in Bozeman again. The potatoes were cooked to perfection, the eggs were poached to the exact level of runniness I like it at, and the hollandaise was delightful. All of our condiments were perfect, too- home made ketchup and jam! Perfect hot sauce! Great iced coffee too! (Although they ran out of cold-brew before we got there, sad face.) Too bad...after reading other Yelp reviews, I really wanted to like this place. The good: Coffee and definitely the wait-staff, they're amazing and go out of their way to make you feel warm and fuzzy. The not so good: Ordered the turkey hash plate which comes with home-fries and two poached eggs atop. Eggs were over-poached so the oozie goodness failed to penetrate the hash...bummer. Potatoes were under cooked...I know they're a vegetable, but I'm not into crunchy home-fries. My dining partner ordered the eggs Benedict split (one salmon and one ham). The taste was good, but the sauce was the consistency of paste...it just sat there, mocking us. Oh yeah, his eggs were over-poached too, but he likes it that way...cept, he never told the server this, they just came that way. The really not so good: Place is known for breakfast/brunch, we arrived at 11:00am and they were already out of fresh-squeezed O.J.? Whoever does the supplies ordering needs to up the ante on fresh oranges. Since this was our last day in Bozeman, we had to choose between Nova and "Main Street Overeasy. There are so many good breakfast places in Bozeman that it's hard to declare any one of them the BEST but Nova Cafe would be in just about anyone's top 5 list. We've come here for 3 years and have yet to have a bad experience. Great specials add to an already-fantastic menu. They serve up a nice variety of food (the Gusto Chorizo omelette is my personal go-to favorite), specialty sausages, traditional entries like pancakes and waffles and eggs and thick bacon, as well as some options for those who are more particular about their diet. They also have a small selection of specialty smoothies that have all been delicious (we have tried 4 different ones to date), and their coffee is tasty. The only problem is that there's only one Nova Cafe and that means there's usually a decent wait for a table (30-45 minutes on average at around 9 am on the weekends) and you can't call ahead at the moment. However, you can still have free coffee while you wait, and read some of the various postings on their bulletin board or some of the magazines in their entry area, so it's not too bad of a wait. read more
