Cute little Korean spot near downtown Bozeman. I'm always on the hunt for good Korean food and I was pleasantly surprised to find this spot in (of all places) Bozeman, MT! The menu is simple with highlights of Korean food I'm familiar with, such as Mandu, Bibimbap, Japchae, Bulgogi and Galbi. I tend to gravitate towards the Galbi when I see it on the menu - it's just something about those short ribs and biting it off the bone. On this last visit, I was able to make it for Happy Hour and they had a few items on special. I ended up having the Galbi (of course), but they had some new beers that I was not familiar with, so I ordered the Hokkaido Daruma IPA. Service was great when I walked in as there were only a couple of other tables, but as the time went on, I rarely ever saw my service staff as the place filled up, so I had to flag down another individual for my beer. The kitchen is visible from the dining area which allows you to see the action. We started with the Kimchi Kimbap ($14) and it was excellent! We began with the wings they were a super flavorful with just the right amount of crisp and not too spicy. I ordered the bimbap with chicken, and it was delicious. The portions are generous so we all had leftovers! We wanted to get some dessert but they were already sold out of the ice cream sandwiches so we missed out but we had the donut and it was just okay it tasted a bit like baklava. Great spot for a laid-back but definitely not the place for a quiet meal as it was very loud but great for a meal that'll fill you up without breaking the bank. I recently went here with a friend for dinner. I was excited to try this place after reading all the reviews, and was finally in the area when they were open. I was surprised to learn this korean resturant charges for their banchan which was disappointing. I haven't had a korean resturant charge for initial banchan until now so that was different. We decided to pass on these as some appetizers looked interesting. Since we had to work early the next morning, we decided to order a little more food as we planned on taking the leftovers for lunch the next day. We both ordered the Bulgogi Bimibap. This came with carrots, spinach, bean sprouts, zuchinni, and an egg with a side of pepper sauce. We both had this served in the stone bowl which kept everything hot and added crunch to the rice. Everything was very fresh, and service was quick. Personally I think there were opportunities with this meal. The beef was flat in flavor, seasoning was light, and my egg was hard so it wasn't able to add richness to the dish. The bowl was also on the pricer side at $23.00 for a rice dish, but I did choose Bulgogi. As for the pepper sauce, I was hoping for gochujang but this was not that. It tasted more like a pepper sauce that had too much water added. We also ordered the Bulgogi Kimbap for $16.00 and the Korean wings made with Oyster Mushooms for $15.00. The Kimbap came rolled with rice, pickled radish, egg, and veggies in seaweed. This was beautifully rolled and tasty, yet pricey for 1 roll. As for the Oyster wings, they were beautifully crunchy, and came dressed in a sweet tangy sauce. I would recommend you give them a try. Overal this was a pleasant dinner. When we arrived we were one of three tables, however, by the time we left the place was packed and there was a line. So great to find Korean food in the state of Montana! Started with a bottle of soju to get the body feeling good then went straight to the apps with Korean chicken wings, mandu and banchan. I will say that I was hoping for a flavored soju like I've had before but the only option was fresh soju (no flavor). Three of us in the group ended up ordering bibimbap and one person ordered dak bulgogi. Some dishes were sold out which was a bummer. I think Whistle Pig might be one of the most underrated restaurants in Bozeman. There is so much hype from these "big city" restaurants moving into town, yet Whistle Pig remains delicious, quaint and relatively affordable for the value. They'll sit you down with some cucmber salad and you'll surely want more... Make sure you get some ban chan to scratch that itch and add variety, they're always so fun and tasty, with at least one wild card you aren't sure if you'll enjoy (spoiler: you probably will like that too!). Sometimes we try to save some and eat it alongside of our bibimbap (but often we lack self restraint to do it). I've tried multiple times to not order a bibimbap, but it always wins. At this point, I think I've tried each of them on the menu. It's simply that delicious! You can upgrade to a stone bowl for $1, which seems silly until you realize that it'll crisp your rice up real nice. Other things I've enjoyed are their Lion's Mane mushroom app, their steamed buns, and their scallion pancakes. Service is great there, but my favorite part is often finding the co-owner going around to tables and checking on things while his wife runs the kitchen. Whistle Pig is truly owned by a family that's invested in what they're doing. (They're not owned by some partner group buying up all the local scene...) Wow! What a gem of a find. Love love love that they were super friendly and knowledgeable about gluten free. Our waiter even asked if i had Celiac (I do). His knowledge and willingness to go through the items I was interested in was much appreciated. We had a vegetarian starter that I didn't write the name down - but very yummy! Tofu and vegetables. My husband had the chicken bulgogi (the sauce is not Gluten free). I had the kimchi jigae. We also had the flight of sake. Loved the starter, sake and kimchi jigae. My husband said his food was good but just okay. The jigae was perfect because the weather was cool and rainy. I don't think I would order it on a hot summer day just because it was served very hot and took a while to cool. My favorite safe was the snow maiden. It had just the right amount of both creaminess and flavor. But all of them were really good. Overall a fun happening cozy place to enjoy a night out. Parking was a nightmare! read more

The service was very very nice and it's a very cute place. I love that they stick with tradition, using chopsticks and a hot stone to keep some of the dishes warm. I would love to know where they got those wonderful stainless steel cups. Walking into the place I was a little worried with the building because frankly it's not charming, but again the restaurant is. The food was absolutely spectacular and I can't wait to go back. My only improvement would be making the water pitchers bigger so they don't have to refill them so often. read more

Coming from someone who has such a high salt tolerance that I sprinkle salt on in n out fries and spinach cheese croissants, this place was TOO SALTY for me. and trust me that is saying something. The first thing we tried was the cucumber. Please please please fix the recipe as it was not just slatier than regular Korean bon chan but literally any pickle I've ever tried. The fried pancake and the kimchi in the bibimbap also had this issue. However I can't give this less than 4 years because I also have lots of good things to say. The bibimbap had purple rice! Wow! I rlly enjoyed that. Nice meat portions. The kimchi bun was very good (wouldve been better if it was warm). The pancake (even tho salty) was very nicely fried and tasty. If you are debating between trying the mochi/cookie, DO IT. and then buy more on your way out because I regret not leaving with some. read more

Hard to find a Korean restaurant here in Montana. We couldn't pass up a Korean spot after finding this place. The bibimbap and banchans look good, the chicken japchae is a nice option too. Jack is waiting on us. Started off with a veggie kimbap ($10/each), banchans (not cool they charge for banchans here, so not Korean like at all), dak bulgogi, a spicy chicken dolsot bibimbap ($1 for hot stone) and another kimchi kimbap after finishing the first one as our starter. $63 for our meal tonight. The kimchi veggie kimbap is yummy. They use the purple red bean rice here. It's good with the gochujang sauce as a dip. The $7 banchans are: garlic in soy sauce, green onion, rolled egg and kimchi. The banchans are all decent. The garlic in the soy is both of our favorite. We ordered a second kimchi kimbap. The dak bulgogi was little dried overcooked pieces of chicken jerky. My husband tossed gochujang and some of the sesame oil I requested for my dolsot chicken bibimbap. The bibimbap wasn't too bad. Egg was almost cooked well done, but slightly short of it. Jack was attentive and pleasant. The kimchi kimbap was the best part of our meal, hands down. read more

We are visiting Yellowstone on a massive road trip, that included stops in Denver, Wyoming, Montana, Arizona and Texas. We're from Texas. And we in our culture cook as a form of love. And this feels that way. It feels as if this was made by a family member after a bad day. We came in an hour till close and were shocked at the quality down to the presentation. Though ambiance was trendy and good, but boy, the food was horrible - only flavor I tasted was salt. Since your restaurant is representing Korean cuisine, I just want it to do better in sharing my culture with nonKoreans. I have read other reviews and saw that other Koreans left poor reviews too. The fried tofu was also amazing, the sauce was so good. I had spicy vegan bibimbap. This was good but not as good as the started we had. Coming from CA, I am definitely pickier when it comes to Korean food. Their red paste sauce needs improvement. That's the key ingredient for good bi him bap... tasted more like American hot sauce than authentic Korean red paste sauce. I'm not a Korean food aficionado but I enjoyed my meal. The rest of the gang really enjoyed their food and stated this was the best thing they ate in Bozeman. I will say this was the second best place for me in Bozeman. We were immediately seated and service was pretty good. Had the bulgogi beef bibimbap which was tasty but better with gochujang. Some of the pieces of beef were tough maybe overcooked but overall was a win. Even the leftovers reheated was still pretty good. Holy cats! This place is so indescribable. I could wax poetic about the amazing food and superior service. Sadly, I don't think I could begin to describe how every dish is cooked to perfection. I lived in Korea for a year and I would consider what I ate here authentic to what I experienced in Korea, for the most part. Service was on point.... food was so good. Pay for the hot stone bowl (makes the rice deliciously crispy). We will definitely be back. I didn't take any photos because I was too busy enjoying the food! One more thing to note: we went in with a 8 month old child and when our table was ready, he had it all set for us with a high chair, which we haven't experienced.
