Good food for the price wait can be a little shorter

My experience with Northside Grille is an embarrassing tale of the "fool me once" scenario. Most of our experience is picking up grub on Sundays, though we've been there a couple of times to eat. I used to say the food was hit or miss, but I'm just going to go with a big ole "miss" these days. Half of the time the WINGS have no flavor (how is this possible?!) and even my friend's chicken salad today was meh. I had an order of onion rings and half were not cooked and so grease-ridden that I couldn't eat them. To add tuna to a salad has, in the past, cost over $16. On another occasion we called in a large order for 6 people to go and they completely forgot about it, so my girlfriend had to sit and wait while they made 6 orders, and it was obvious that they did it in a rush. I'll head to Dot's next time I want good food in our neighborhood to go. read more

I've eaten here a few other times and was satisfied, though not wowed, by the food, and service was adequate. Went tonight and immediately got the feeling that the hostess found it a bit of a bother to interrupt her conversation with a coworker to seat me, but she put on a fake smile and I was seated right at the front. I decided to treat myself to a steak that was on the specials menu as well as an appetizer. My salad was brought right out (a run of the mill house salad) and after I'd had a few bites, my fried oysters came out so fast I wondered how they had cooked them (they were okay, Dot's just down the street are much, much better). As I ate them, I hoped that my steak wasn't going to be rushed out, but it was. Getting my entree before I finish my appetizer really bugs me. It wasn't brought to me by my waitress, but by someone else on staff. My server has been chattering away to the hostess this whole time, and comes over to ask how everything is. I say I don't know, I haven't eaten it yet, but I do feel a little rushed. She either didn't hear or didn't care, because she said she would be back to check on me. So I quickly finished my oysters, and start to work on my steak. To keep this shorter, let me just say a good 25 percent of the steak was fat. Yes, it was a rib eye, but I ended up with a pile of fat that was as big as the pile of mashed potatoes on my plate. Don't charge 24 dollars for a steak if you don't know how to trim it, season it, cook it and serve it(they failed on all counts). I showed the pile of fat to my server (who never came over until I was almost finished) and she gave the usual I'll let the kitchen know response. I've been here many times over the past few years , but lately I feel like this place has started to slip. We went on a pretty average day, and the service was abysmal. The food was cooked within an inch of its life, and the prices don't really match the quality you get. I really would like this place to be better. Sadly, it's been placed on a 1 year ban on my list of go to restaurants. read more

A business associate and I were searching around for some place to eat and happened upon this hidden treasure. A great spot, easy parking, tiny on outside but huge on inside. Everyone friendly, excellent wait staff. The meal was delivered fresh and delicious Got some dessert to go. Will definitely add this to my list for a repeat adventure! Highly recommend to anyone. It could use some better signage. But what a great find! read more

A great place anytime you come in. I have eaten at this place for Sunday brunch, awesome biscuits and gravy; lunch - try the cuban it's awesome; supper - you can never go wrong with one of the specials. Decent beer selections and always somebody worth sitting next to and having a good conversation if you want to sit at the bar. read more

Excellent neighborhood eatery with horseshoe bar in the middle and TVs showing the ballgame. We go here fairly regularly because we live in Ginter Park,but feel like it's under-appreciated on the city scene. Limited but solid menu choices. Burgers are excellent. Patio available in the warmer months. read more

Used to really like coming here. No more draft list, waitresses have attitudes and my tuna melt and my wife's nachos were cold and her sour cream smelled funny. Got here at 8:50 on a Sunday evening, website says they're open until 10. Overheard the waitress inform the kitchen staff that she told us they're closing (she didn't). But the topper was when a group of gay dudes two booths over very loudly shared their graphic homosexual diatribes with the entire restaurant, so much it drowned out the fairly loud music. I'm not a homophobe but there's a time and place for everything. Think we're done with this place. read more

Great sandwiches and extensive local beer selection in a small neighborhood bar. Great place to grab a beer and a burger on Sunday afternoon while watching a football game. The Reuben and the Tuna Melt on Rye are recommended. read more

I have worked in the vicinity for five years and have ordered for my staff from this location SEVERAL times over those years; we also go to the restaurant and dine in regularly. Service is never great, but the food is usually good. When my staff ordered more than $150 worth of take out food on Friday, understandably (with the various orders) a side of sweet potato fries was left off of the order. When Northside Grille was contacted, the tone was inhospitable and completely inappropriate. The owner, Shannon stated that we would not be getting a "free" order of fries and "if you don't like it, don't come back." Her comment had all types of undertones but instead of getting into that, I will make sure that neither I nor anyone in my organization patronizes this restaurant again. read more

Experienced the grille for the first time tonight. I started with a drink at the bar. Service was prompt, beer was good, menu looked fab! Once the rest of my party arrived, we were seated at a booth. The service was super slow in the booth! We ran out of drinks a couple times and everyone's food except mine took a long time. This is the kind of place where you go to relax and kill time so speed was not on my mind but a full drink was. We ended up being there for 2 and a half hours!! My food was delicious and super affordable!! It was the penne with Gorgonzola cream sauce and spinach/ tomato topping. I ate until I physically couldn't put anymore in my mouth. The salad was good, too. Typical house salad. I will definitely go back for the food and atmosphere. All servers/ bartenders were friendly as well. Nice lil neighborhood joint! read more

We lived in the neighborhood for 3 years and even though we've since moved into the county we still make a point to eat dinner 1 or 2 times a month here. Fun atmosphere and great food. Burgers are top notch and always cooked perfectly. Great play on a Cuban sandwich as well. Usually sit at the bar. read more

Have eaten here many times. Never had a meal I didn't like. Bad server only once. He seems to have disappeared. Fish Tacos, very large Caesar & Spinach salads nicely dressed up, hummus platter, crabcakes, off menu specials & pastas, all delicious. Bellevue neighborhood joint. Meh. Underwhelmed with the food and the service. They have a large bar area and nice outdoor area to enjoy when the weather is nice. I only go when I'm with someone that chooses where we're eating and I don't feel comfortable asking if we can meet somewhere else. read more

I really want to love this restaurant... the food is always great.. once you can finally get served! We had the absolute worst waitress this evening. Sure hope she gets some fire under her rear because my husband is a very fair tipper when the service is good. Been a couple times for lunch and once for dinner. Great service with very friendly staff and fair prices. The food is good and priced right for what you get sandwiches are filling and for 10 dollars you will befull. read more

My wife and I stopped by the Northside Grille for lunch today and after walking in was seated immediately. After being seated, our waitress came by our booth almost before the host had an opportunity to leave. She politely took our drink orders and stated what the lunch specials were. My wife who had been here before ordered chicken tenders and fries. I ordered a club sandwich and fries. The food came out quickly and her meal was piping hot. My sandwich was good and was loaded with turkey, ham, and bacon. Also, my fries were plentiful and hot. I must admit, I'm a sucker for fresh hand cut fries! Our waitress who had a great personality, dropped by several times to see if we needed anything and to refill our drinks. Overall, great service, good food in a nice neighborhood grill! I will certainly return and try other items on the menu. read more

I went here on a Wednesday night to have a few drinks with friends. The drink prices were average, but let me tell you, the food was not. Many of us ordered salad with chicken (not chicken salad). The greens in the salad were acceptable, but the chicken was obviously microwaved and had the consistency of a piece of tire. If you are looking for a local watering hole in Northside, they do have a happy hour like everyone else, but I won't be going back. Our waitress was a saint though, which is why I give this place 2 stars. read more

Food is always good and beer selection is great! Love coming here. But bring a sweater... A/C is always cranking.

My first visit and the rating reflects the inconsistencies in the food. The service was very good. My fried Bologna sandwich was very good with a thick slice of Bologna fried crispy as ordered. My crab soup was tasty as was the tomato bisque but barely warm as were all four cups of soup brought to the table. The Mahi breaded in crushed potato chips sandwich was beyond crispy and basically tough. The steak and cheese sub was very good. The French fries were good as were the sweet potato fries. The ice tea was very good. The mixed food quality makes us hesitant about going back but the good service will bring us back for another try sometime. read more

Nice clean fun neigbhoor restaurant and a good place to eat. The buffalo chicken wrap is delicious I definitely recommend it.

I love that this place is so close to my house. No complaints here. Large beer and dessert menu.

Food is really good! The BBQ sandwich and club sandwich are my favorites. My mom had their soft shell crabs and enjoyed it a lot.

Want a nice neighborhood bar experience? Go to The Mill. This place is an utter disappointment - and this from a North-sider of ten years. The service is garbage, the food is worse. It is a shame this place continues to junk up the neighborhood - most of us keep hoping it'll be replaced with a restaurant where the staff doesn't act like they hate their patrons. read more

My daughter and I normally get carry out from here. She normally gets a cheese burger with lettuce and mayo only. The burger was ok the last few times and they forgot her lettuce twice and the french fries were a bit soggy. We were shocked given that we've ordered from them before. Then when we finally decided to dine-in there with 3 friends, it was very loud and our orders were not correct. The food tasted OK. I still think this is a good restaurant, I guess we just had a small, weird not so good round with them. read more

Solid neighborhood restaurant with a quaint atmosphere. Food is good, not bad, but not great. I will say they have a sprawling dessert selection with MASSIVE portion sizes. Nothing overly special here, just a good local spot. read more

Used to be a fan of Northside, but not so much anymore. The past two times we ate there, the service was bad enough, with no attention truly paid to our table. Frequently had to ask for more drinks, after we tracked down our waiter. Then would have to get someone else to get our waiter to give us the bill. This last attempt (and I say attempt because we never made it to a table) was the last. We arrived at about 6 pm for a family of four. There was another party of four in front of us so we were told to put our name on a list and it would be about 15 minutes. No worries, we thought. We waited for 10 minutes and several other parties of 2-4 came in behind us. One party of three was sat immediately, although they had no reservation and came in well after we arrived. The hostess that took our name apparently went to tend bar, but failed to mention that there was a wait list to the young man that then began hosting. So, we kindly mention to the new host that there is a wait list and there are two parties waiting to be seated, not to mention the rest of the people that came in after us. Fare mistake, okay. So he starts to set another table for four, after seating the party of four in front of us, but never mentions to us that it is our table. So I ask nicely if we may sit down and am politely informed that it is for a reservation. As we are standing there, now for 25 minutes, I hear the original hostess, turned barkeep, tell the couple that came in 15 minutes behind us, "you might as well take that table (referring to the one we were told was for a reservation) before someone else grabs it." That's when we walked out without bothering. The food in the past was mediocre at best and way overpriced. It's nice that it is a neighborhood place, but the service downright SUCKS. If you are going to run a business, run it well or get out of it. Customer service will get you a lot farther down the road because word of mouth travels quickly in this neighborhood. read more

The hostess greeted us with a non-existent personality. When we asked to wait for another booth to be cleared she said that they were not seating people on that section. Immediately after we were seated, she seated the next group at that booth. We did speak to the manager who was of no help. Went here for brunch today with a friend. They were unable to adjust their menu to make scrambled egg whites. Okay, fine. Our orders took over 30 minutes to deliver and my eggs were cold. My friend's breakfast was luke warm but she ate it. I sent mine back and they comped the eggs. I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

Was so happy when this place first opened and was bold enough to be non-smoking before the ban took place. Very disappointed when I went in on a nice Friday evening for dinner and wanted to dine al fresco, only to walk through a cloud of smoke from a large table while being led to a table on the patio. The poor couple sitting next to them had to asked to be moved, but the breeze STILL carried that vile smell over to them and US. Heck, one of the only reasons to go to this place is the patio. Won't be going back anytime soon. read more
