I really, really meant to order a healthy salad at the Northside Grille today. But, it just wasn't in the cards. The enticing selection of sandwiches that ran down the center of the menu tore me away from the likes of "house" and "Caesar." All your favorites are there, reuben, burger, pork barbecue, buffalo chicken, and I could go on. I went for the Cuban. Turkey, ham, cheese, pickles and whole-grain mustard were packed into a Cuban-style roll and pressed. The meat was thick and well flavored, the cheese was gooey, the pickles were tangy and the mustard was just awesome. I loved this sandwich. For my one side I chose to pay the extra dollar for onion rings after seeing gorgeous piles of golden O's arriving at tables nearby. They were hot, freshly fried, beer-battered and delicious. I couldn't stop eating them (hmm, why aren't I thin?). At least I was too full for the enticingly huge wedges of carrot cake that were sitting inside a chilled case. We ate our meal on the spacious patio that's packed with white umbrellas, big wood tables, hanging lights and other charming decor. The inside is brightly colored with exposed brick and local art. All in all, Northside Grille is exactly what a neighborhood joint needs to be: casual, friendly and fun with simple, good food. There's also a big bar in the center of the restaurant. I saw several Starr Hill brews on tap: yay local beer! I'll definitely be heading back for more patio lunches and relaxed dinners. Maybe I'll even bring myself to order a salad...but probably not. read more

I'm a fan of Northside Grille, not so much for the food, but for the bar and the fact that it's truly a neighborhood joint. The bar boasts a solid selection of beers including Hardywood on tap, which is always a winner in my book. The bartenders are also super friendly, keep your glasses filled, and know how to mix a good drink. The large, u-shaped bar is a solid place to post up for happy hour and stay into the evening. The food is your typical American soups/salads/sandwiches/burgers with a few random dishes thrown in like fish tacos and chicken carbonara. I've eaten the crab bisque (just what you'd expect - very heavy and a tad sweet, so I can only eat so much in one sitting), the egg salad sandwich (not my favorite, a little bland for my tastes... but I'm picky with my egg salad), and the nachos (standard pub nachos). While there's nothing wrong with the food, there's also nothing special about it. When I'm looking for a dinner destination, I usually want something that has the potential to wow me. Although this isn't that spot, it does maintain a special place in my heart for it's friendly, casual, no frills vibe and it's awesome bartenders. Hubby and I enjoy grabbing lunch at this local favorite. It reminds me of Cheers...where everybody knows your name and they're always glad you came. I mean, not that anyone knows my specific name exactly. It's just that the vibe is there! Know what I mean? When business is slow, like during the lull between the lunch rush and the dinner crowd, the bartender doubles as the server. He seems like such a great guy! He provides great service, is friendly, a faithful and diligent worker and never let's his hands be idle. If he sees trash on the floor, he doesn't step over it. Awesome person and obviously vested in the establishment! He often speaks adoringly about his daughter. Anyway, I bet many businesses would do well to have an employee like that! Maybe he is the owner or something. I dunno. But I'm sure those who sit and chat with him at the bar know. Hubby and I just observe him from afar, so to speak. The menu contains mostly sandwiches and burgers, all for an average price of $9. The menu is not a wow factor at all. Very basic. But the portions are great! The food is casual, very tasty, and you will get your money's worth! They have daily specials and after 5pm, they have a selection of entrees to choose from. I've been when it was so busy that we've had to wait for a table. I've been when it wasn't busy at all. Service is still excellent either way. Also, they have a beautiful patio and parking in a lot across the street. On this particular visit, I ordered the buffalo chicken caesar wrap with fries. I truly wish that this restaurant would "tighten up" and start to be consistent. The only real competition in the neighborhood is Kitchen 64 and Dot's Back Inn. I do hear Shenanigans is now trying to tighten up and compete so we will have to see how that pans out. I have had good meals here but there have been enough service glitches to rate this two stars. I have been for brunch on four occasions. The food was OK but there are better in Richmond. The rub here is that this is one of the few restaurants on North Side and hence has little competition. The kitchen, which can be seen from the dining room, always seems well staffed but the food rarely comes out quickly and has been cold several times. One friend had to send his food back twice due to it being undercooked. At no time was there a visit from a manager or a discount applied to the check to compensate for what essentially put a dark cloud over that visit. What would be a truly amazing space is the newly renovated outdoor terrace. It would be a great place to gather if the service out there wasn't so spotty and they had more shade coverage on hot days. On our last visit the service was harried and many of the umbrellas did not work. The wait staff is a little young as well, something you would not expect in a place like this. Perhaps this may be one of the problems regarding consistency and "ownership" of the restaurant. I am still gunning for this establishment to fix what is wrong. It is more related to how "young" the staff is and what I perceive to be a lack of training and experience on the part of the kitchen and waitstaff. The food is good enough to recommend going and the outdoor terrace (with working umbrellas) is a great place to have a cold beer. I say give it a shot for yourself and if something isn't to your liking, tell the managers instead of walking out......it is the only way they will know what needs attention. read more

I like visiting Northside and love their lumpia rolls and Caesar salad especially. It's a good casual place that doesn't usually have a wait and has a cute patio if the whether is nice. It's also a good place to have a drink on the way home. The only negative here is I haven't been impressed with brunch. It takes a very long time to get food and their selection is limited and unoriginal. If you're looking for a good brunch, go a few streets down to the Mill or Dots and save Northside Grill for lunch or dinner! read more

This is one of our typical hang out places after our softball games. The service is great and we are usually able to quickly get a beer up at the bar. It is a great place for the locals to hang out and run into other people you may know. The food is pretty good, I haven't really had any of the meals but lots of wings, nachos and fries. The beer choices are always changing and they have a lot of local beers. Lately the Falcon Smash has been the drink of choice. I recommend coming here to either grab a beer, or just hang out with family or friends. read more

My wife, I and our small dog had been driving 11 hrs from Ottawa Canada. Before we left, I had looked up a dog friendly place on the web and liked the menu. We came in toward the end of their day (Sun 7:30), and although the bartender said there was no one serving the outside (and no one else was outside) he opened the gate and let us in. Then the server was very patient to wait for us to order, as we were pit stopping trying to find a hotel, and weren't sure whether we were continuing on, or able to find a hotel close by - and their kitchen was closing in 30-40 minutes. The waiter gave us good info as to how far Emporia and Rocky Mount were, and later, how to easily get back to I-95. Another server heard we had a dog out in the courtyard, and took care of our dog, getting some water, and later, cutting up some leftover steak for him! Our food was delicious (nice size butterfly shrimp), and the local IPA they recommended was excellent. Was so thankful after a long day to end up in such a very friendly place. read more

I gave Northside two bad reviews several months ago. We were so frustrated with this place that we had said we were never going back. Never say never....we've missed The Northside Grille and how great it was before this pandemic so we decided to give it another shot. We went for lunch on Sunday, August 9th, and were greeted by a friendly gentleman who immediately took us to our seats at the bar. As it turned out Trevor was the bartender and a fabulous one, at that. He was friendly, attentive and just so nice and polite! The entire staff was smiling and friendly. We are so excited to have the "old" Northside Grille back. Please hold on to Trevor as he is certainly a keeper. BTW- tuna was amazing, as always! read more

I came here because of an invite from a professor who ended class early and was treating us to drinks. I'm not much of a bar person as I don't drink, but I was pleasantly surprised with the atmosphere. You won't get that smell of beer you get from many, and the ambiance is pretty nice. On a Wednesday night at 10pm, we couldn't order food, but there was plenty of seating, and the host was very nice. He really took care of our party and especially our professor, refilling our drinks and frequently making rounds. Although I didn't personally taste the food, my professor claims its good and not pricey either so I may come again with some friends to try it. It's kind of a hidden gem, and I think that makes it a cool attraction to visit. read more

Northside Grill is located less than 2 blocks from our house- so its safe to say we are somewhat regulars. They have indoor and outdoor patio seating for when it is warm and parking is not usually an issue on the street. Come here for a beer and appetizers, lunch, or dinner! I like the Cesar salad w/ buffalo chicken (or really any of their salads), the hummus plate, the crab dip, or a burger! Really I haven't had anything I didn't like! Maybe it was the drunken frat boy sitting next to me telling me how he's still drunk from the night before, or maybe it was the 45 minute wait at the bar just to order my brunch... but I'm not in love. First and foremost the bartender was incredibly nice, and I truly believed she was overwhelmed by the morning. Unfortunately that still doesn't bode well when you're hungry, thirsty, and would at least like a "good morning, I'll be with you soon, sorry we are slammed." The food though was the major fail here. Prices are average for the venue/area but the Crab Cakes were 95% filler and 5% Special Crab. I was promised tons of Jumbo Lump and no filler, and received the EXACT opposite. That alone is the very reason I can't love this place. I don't mind a cheap crab cake, but be what you are. Don't hype yourself up and build false hopes. I suppose this is a great place is you live really close by, but I certainly wouldn't make it a destination spot. read more

A few years ago I thought better of Northside Grille. My last 2 brunches over the past 6 months have been between meh and disaster. One of my poached eggs were overdone (hardboiled) and the hollandaise was separated. My previous french toast with cream cheese was french toast smeared with cream cheese. Cold and gummy. Northside Grill was my go to spot in the neighborhood back when it's non-smoking policy made it special. Now that I can go to most any eating establishment in town and not come home smelling like an ashtray, it's unique appeal is all but gone. The menu is fairly generic and while it won't offend anyone it won't intrigue you either. I also feel that the entrees are a bit overpriced. On the upside, it is a very roomy place (great for a group). Also, I think the menu would be good if you have a group that agree on what kind of food to go out for. read more

We stopped into the Northside Grille tonight and was seated right away. The atmosphere was welcoming and the bar was huge. I wish it wasn't rainy and cold because the patio looked like a great space. I tried the special for the night, Pasta Lou, which was a Cajun Alfredo pasta dish with shrimp and spicy sausage. It was amazing. The rest of the table got burgers with in house cut fries. I frequent this place a lot and it used to be one of my favorite lunch spots. One day, my co-workers and I decide to order take out. We had about six orders. When I went to pick the orders up, the serving assured me that everything was in the bag and labeled. When I got back to work, I noticed that we were missing an order of fries. I immediately called them to notify them them of the issue and that I would be there the next day to retrieve the fries that I had already paid for. The next day arrives, I called them before leaving to let them know that I would be coming to pick up the order. When I arrived, the owner, Shannon, became very rude saying that I had only order two orders of fries and received them. I don't know why she would think that I would be lying about a $3 order of fries, when my co workers and I spent nearly $100 the day before. I guess she assumed that I was the product of the area that the restaurant is located in. I proceeded to call my co-worker to inform her of the problem I was having with the owner, Shannon. Shannon tells me that "If I have an issue, I don't have to come there anymore." I told her she could keep the fries and I left. I have no respect for anyone who would treat customers in the manner she did. My co-workers and I will not be returning. There aren't a lot of neighborhood restaurants you can walk to in Bellevue so Northside Grille is wonderful restaurant to have in the barrio. As far as dinner is concerned, I loved the portabella burger and sweet potato fries, but the black bean burger was dry. read more

I recently placed an order with several colleagues. The food was decent, but the take out order was not complete. When my colleague called the establishment to retrieve the fries which had been paid for, she was spoken to by the manager/owner (Shannon) in a manner that was extremely disrespectful and belittling, saying things like "if you don't like it, you don't have to come back". Needless to say, we don't like it and we will not be back. This is regretful for them, since we frequent the place due to its convenient proximity to our work location. read more

I took my first trip here a couple of days ago, and have fallen in love with it. We sat down and got our drink orders taken immediately. The Local coffee was delicious! We ordered a small bowl of Chili to share between the two of us, I would have liked it to have had more tomatoes in it, but it still tasted great. I then ordered a buffalo Chicken sandwich with bleu cheese crumbles and it was amazing. The sandwich was large and I ended up having to take half of my meal home with me. This used to be a favorite but not after last night. First cuban sandwich came out burnt. Not toasted, but jet black burned bread on both sIdes. Second cuban was much worse. Bread was slathered in grease, I felt like I had just dunked my lips into a jar of Vaseline. No toasting, no cheese, no pickle...just a tiny piece of pork and a tiny piece of ham. French fries were dosed in tons of salt. It was not edible and ruined a night out with friends while waiting for 2 sandwiches and going home hungry. No apologies from the manager. Waiter laid low until check time, then he said "the manager is all over this." Only thing I got was a free draft beer. Wow. read more
