We both upgraded from home fries to fruit cups, and that too was disappointing. Were the exception of grapes, you couldn't tell which fruit you were eating. I'll grant you it's early in the season but pre-cut fruit sitting in watery liquid is bound to lose flavor and texture. But I strictly waited until I…read morewas finally able to eat in the dining area so that I could give a full perspective of the food as well as the service and decor. First off, the staff are SO friendly here! The bar lady who was describing the specials to me seemed wicked eager about a few of them. I wondered if she had practiced that speech in front of a mirror every night before bed. Or perhaps she really does love those specials (even though I can't remember what they are at the moment). Next, we have the interior. Now....a brief background for the non-locals not familiar with the history of this location: In the not too distant past, this place used to be called "Donna's Place", which was subsequently shutdown for reasons unbeknownst to me. However, the general layout is similar to its predecessor; with the exception of the table rearrangements. They ostensibly retained the bar and even threw in a few add-ons to the overhead. Also, just a caveat when you first arrive: you have to use the side entrance instead of the one facing the street. Okay. We gotta talk about the coffee real quick. While the roast itself presents a nice bold flavor, I gotta tell ya....this coffee mug is HUUUUUGE!! I swear to you they bring out like, a bucket of coffee. Thing must be at least 16 ounces! I took a picture of it next to a standard size sugar container for comparison. Friggin' HUUUUUUGE! So far, my all time go-to breakfast is the build your own omelet with cheddar cheese, tomato, and onions with a side of homefries and toast. I've had this combo with and without ham, plus a side of bacon. But I was really curious about the infamous homemade hash. And so it was. I'm still the misfit who prefers canned hash over homemade. However, this one exceeded my expectations. Ordinarily, I'm forced to get used to the trend of homemade hash consisting of shoe-leathery brisket mixed with potatoes, all of which is typically bland. But not this hash. GP's hash is surprisingly well seasoned and tender! It's strange, but almost like a combination of canned and homemade. The corned beef is minced similarly like canned, only with a different texture. It's tricky to explain to folks unfamiliar with hash. All I'm saying is....definitely give this one a try. The omelets here are phenomenal! That's all there is to say, really. Sure, they could be seasoned up a bit (along with the potatoes). But this is the restaurant biz. Chefs have to play it safe when it comes to salt, after all. As many know, I'm always down for supporting my local hot spots. And this one will certainly remain a continual revisit for moi. Therefore, I'll give The Good Place 5 sensationally built omelets with all the fixins and a side of hash out of 5.

Outside, it looks nothing like the classic New England train car style or New Jersey stainless steel style diners, but inside are countertop with stools, booths around the outskirts, and the hustle and bustle giving it a strong diner vibe. Like my visits to many diners, I was here on my patty melt quest. -- Patty Melt: First, the composition is faithful to the prototype, with a quarter pound patty (no smashburger nonsense), rye bread (no sourdough decoy), buttered (not merely toasted), and with the classic Swiss cheese, sautéed onions and thousand Island dressing. No fusion, no reinvention, no omissions, no hipster jive. Good crispness and butteriness on the bread, great melt on the cheese, and noticeable softness to the onions. Most importantly, the beef could be ordered medium rare, and they executed. More softness, with gushing juices and a really pleasing bite. I suspect nothing special to start with, but they cooked it to near perfection. Only quibble would be not much crust to the patty, but not as critical on a patty melt. -- Fries: I could have had tots or a few other options, but fries were fine. Almost certainly frozen, but the skin-on variety and not the dreaded coated kind. Nothing special, but good enough. Service was adequate. It seemed like everyone was prepping to get everything gathered and cleaned for closing about 90 minutes earlier than necessary, but that didn't detract. If anything, it shows initiative and hustle. Not much data to go on, but an easy 4 for me.

This casual family owned and operated restaurant cafe serves up breakfast all day and lunch. The place was redone with a brighter and an inviting atmosphere with booths along the walls and in front, table seating in the center and counter seating in the dining area. There are patriotic prints on the walls and checkered floors remain. I've picked up Lebanese and Italian food from the previous restaurant in this space and it's bittersweet seeing a small town breakfast and lunch spot open up in its place. There are a few other options in this area, but spread out. I decided to stop by here for breakfast before work. I got here just before 6:30 and sat myself in a booth which had menus to look at. The breakfast menu offerings include breakfast platters, 3 egg omelettes, pancakes, French toast, Belgian waffles, breakfast burritos, Tony The Tiger (frosted flakes French toast), hash (canned and homemade (soon)) and breakfast sides. The lunch menu offerings include fried appetizers, hand cut fries, sandwiches, wraps, burgers, soup, chili, salads, comfort dishes, and daily specials. The prices seem fair, most meals $8 to $15 range (in 2024). After I was seated, the server came over and offered a drink and I requested an ice water since I already had coffee beforehand. They did not have homemade hash yet, so I eventually decided to go with the Steak Bomb Omelette ($13.50 plus tax) with choice of toast (I chose sourdough) and one side (I got home fries). My food was served in about 8 minutes after ordering. There was a good amount of hot food on my plate. The omelette was filled with grilled shaved steak, green peppers, onions, mushrooms & cheese (I chose cheddar) with a folded thin egg sheet. This omelette was pretty good. The home fries were fresh cut potatoes (cube cut) lightly grilled and seasoned, which were potatoey and with the skins. The sour dough toast was firm and had minimal butter. The server dropped off the check as I was almost done eating, no rush. The check was $14.65 with tax and before tip. Overall, this is a good place stop for food and I plan to stop by for lunch next time since I saw they had chicken tenders, reubens, monte cristos, mac & cheese, and spaghetti & meatballs (Wednesdays). The friendly staff knew people by name as they stopped in for breakfast. The service for weekday breakfast was prompt and I was able to make to work on time. It is noted they are closed on Sundays (at the time of this posting).

The food at breakfast needs a revamping. hash was out of can shame on you. I would have to say people like it because we had to wait almost an hour. You have seating at bar and regular restaurant it shouldn't be first come first serve at bar. Boo hoo i come with children i dont want to fight for my table. Try the Northside skillet for breakfast, decent burger and the wife loves the steak and cheese, and i hear the prime rib is fantastic. It seems like a lot of opinions about this place range from the heights of "excellent" to "worst…read moredining experience ever". It's a fascinatingly intriguing tale, to say the least. I guess, depending on who you are, you could land on either side of the spectrum. At the risk of stating so in presumed ambivalence, my assessment of this newfound breakfast diner ranges somewhere in the middle. This is mostly due to service being pretty stellar, whilst the food was....alright. We gotta get into it. Upfront, it's worth mentioning that after placing our food orders, the meals were out in less than 10 minutes. I was honestly surprised! And whilst this is most certainly a win, it couldn't make up for some of the faux pas in execution. So, I get the hash n' eggs (like I do in most places), along with some homefries and an English muffin. The hash was delicious (and canned, if that matters to anyone) and the eggs were fresh and tasty. The English muffin was actually grilled, which is interesting...since they never really asked me whether I wanted it toasted or grilled. Doesn't matter much to me though. I'll take it either way. The homefries, believe it or not, are what bring this dish down a bit. In fact, it seems both of their breakfast potato sides have problems. I'll try to explain.. The homefries somehow came out in multiple forms of "doneness", depending on which pieces I attempted to eat. This basically meant that they ranged from decently tender on the inside with a seared outside, to slightly overcooked, to cooked to f*@k. Some pieces even resembled that of charcoal. Wifey got hashbrowns with her quiche of the day (which was apparently under seasoned) and those were totally undercooked. In short, one side was overcooked whilst the other was undercooked. Perhaps the cooks operate on the BPD scale of quality assurance. Perennial plant problems aside, I mostly enjoyed my meal. My other two guests thought their quiches could have been better seasoned. The coffee was decent. At least it wasn't a light breakfast blend. Couple other things that bugged me about this place were the dining area being so cramp, walking to the restroom is like a mouse running through the maze for cheese; not to mention the parking situation outside. It's....IMHO, pretty stupid. Okay. Picture this. You got two entrances. Either of these could be the "front" one, depending on your perspective. There's also two entrance points to the parking lot. Only....no. Turns out...the one closest to the true front entrance of the diner has a "DO NOT ENTER" sign on it. Which means if you enter the parking lot the way you're supposed to, you end up pulling up to the side entrance - which you can't use anyway. And then there's the annoying practice of folks being allowed to parallel park in front of the diner, inevitably creating a bottle neck effect for any cars deciding to pass through there. The only other parking options available are along that side entrance I mentioned earlier, or behind the building which....feels wrong to me somehow. I can't quite explain why though. Overall, they weren't bad. But I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to return. Which kinda sucks, considering they aren't very far from where I live. At least their prices aren't too bad. I'm giving The DW Diner 3 savory plates of hash n' eggs out of 5.
