I ordered 2 Edsel Sandwiches which are turkey, cheese and bacon except I did not want bacon but avocado instead. I noticed on my bill that I had been charged $5.98 for the avocado yet I had removed the bacon which I thought was strange considering no bacon. These were to go and when I got home my wife looked at the sandwiches and said where is the avocado?? We both took the sandwiches apart and lo and behold there was a smattering of avocado not worth $3.00 a sandwich. It was there but you could see through it and there was very little of it. Service was good certainly not the server's fault. Perhaps I am being too severe with this review but I certainly should not have been charged for what was the measliest portion of avocado I have ever seen in a sandwich. Vegetales in my choclate chip pancakes?! I have enjoyed going to the Derry maryanns with my family for many years, and for the past six months i have been coming to the Windham location. Dont get me wrong, the service here is great most times but recently has been slow and sloppy. Last time i came here there were two large peices of mushroom in my pancakes, and today there was spinach in them aswell. I can tell that they are trying, and put effort into there cooking. But this is a serious quality control issue, especially with allergies. I hope you can do better Maryanns. read more

Standing at the door at 7:15 we are looking at the 3 employees inside who are looking at us yet the doors are locked and they knew this because we knocked on them while they watched us. After 45 min. no yogart. server came over and asked if came out yet. Visited this Windham location recently. Like the other MaryAnn's, it is average, nothing special. I had the hash and cheese omelette. I opted to change out the American cheese for Swiss and added onions. The omelette was slightly over cooked and the hash filling was plentiful but taste was was bland, possibly canned. The home fries were also a little over done. The saving grace was the service, which was very good, otherwise this would have been a two star review. Our server was attentive and sociable. All in all MaryAnn's is fine for a quick bite. But it not a diner for which I would go out of my way. read more

"Let's do the time warp again!!" -Rocky Horror Picture Show Felt like I went back to a simpler, friendlier, nicer time. Service was great, patrons came in a mix of all types and demos, and it just felt right. Comfortable like brand new cotton socks. I came in for Sunday brunch, and as I sat waiting for a table, loved watching the mix of family, friends, parents, highschoolers, college pals...... like watching the quintessential diner in "Grease", or "Happy Days", only much, much cleaner and nicer. You get jaded living in cities most of your life, where diners are grittier, harsher, and maybe sexier. But getting a dose of places like MaryAnn's is like putting fresh new sheets on your old bed. It's a nice reset. Highly recommend it, and if you're a breakfast sausage freak like me, get their version of biscuits and gravy with medium done eggs. Simply amazing. read more

MaryAnn's in Windham is OPEN! The Chatterbox Cafe is gone, and the new owners put a ton of money into renovating this place. Same theme as the M.A. in Derry- 50th style with stainless and decoura glass block everywhere. The menu is very similar but toned down than MA in Derry, and this location is open for breakfast & lunch as well. The food was solid, however they use the same nasty hollendaise sauce as in the Derry restaurant. SKIP IT! Its tasteless and has reason to be on the plate. The service was scattered and frazzled for opening week. I am sure they will get it together in time. read more

Went with the family to grab breakfast late in the day and these guys did a nice job for us. I got the bacon and cheese omelette with home fries and toast while my wife got the French toast breakfast. We were both very satisfied with the food and service. The inside was done in a fifties theme and looked pretty good with a lot of coke decor and memorabilia on the walls. Seems like a fun place to take friends and visitors. They close at 2pm so don't try to go for a late dinner or you'll be out of luck. read more

food was ok but cold they close at 2pm and we sat a few minutes after 1 then were completely forgotten about until just before 2 when we finally got to put in our order where three of us ordered and our fourth was almost forgotten proceed to the cold food that sat in the window for almost 10 minutes before we got it and another 10 or so minutes before we got our second drinks after our coffees had been empty for forever then after our cold food the manager was rude as hell complaining about people getting their checks so she could get out of there and several other rude comments before they slammed the door behind us after we left. Came in for breakfast on a Thursday. Interior is decorated in a cool way and the place was very clean. Only half full but service was slow. I was given a menu and coffee pretty quickly but then had a long wait before taking my order while other staff replenished dishes, etc. Points off because the don't have any non-dairy milk options like almond or soy milk. More people are going dairy free, get with the times. Hollandaise sauce was bland and generic like it was out of a jar. Potatoes also bland and barely seasoned. Another long wait after I had finished eating to get my bill. I had cash in hand but it wasn't noticed. It's cheap but there are places that are cheap with better food. I suspect that the owner/manager is a workaholic. You can't do good work when you are exhausted and when you exhaust everyone around you with the same expectation. Management could use a healthy business practices revamp. Happy, well rested people have better attitudes, make fewer mistakes and save you money. Disappointing, I preferred Maddie's 10 minutes away, it has better food and better service. read more

Found the Windham location to have a better quality of service and food prepared more to my specific needs vs the Salem location. MaryAnns is a busy place on the weekends so be prepared to wait. They have what seems like more seating here than Salem and one bench right outside. The red, white and blue waffle was very good, the grilled Swiss cheese with tomato was as well. My mom who is very picky with eggs had them prepared to her liking in the form of a veggie omelet. read more

Since we're still not comfortable to eat in, we Do take out often. With one breakfast that we usually order, we ask for mashed potatoes in place of the hone fries due to oral issues with crispness. We have never had an issue, UNTILL TODAY. When I arrived, I asked to please make sure they put mashed in place of the fries. She told me she had to add it as a side order. When I asked if I was charged extra for them she said yes. So I told her that's never happened before. But she insisted that it's the only way to do it. I guess it would have been to much trouble for them to just tell the cook "MASHED INSTEAD OF HOME FRIES". When I learned that I was charged extra, I told her to make sure I get the home fries too since I'm paying for them. Well they did. But this goes to show its always in your best interest to check your receipt. If I hadn't checked on the mashed, I would have not recieved an item that I paid for. read more

Really gone downhill. I ordered a single egg over easy, hash cooked well done and my husband ordered scrambled eggs and bacon. Simple and easy. Hash was barely reheated (definitely tasted warmed up in the microwave) egg was over well, and husband got hash instead of bacon. Sent it back, got the bacon which was utterly inedible. Great food for a good price. I've been to Mary Ann's several times now, as well as their location in Derry, NH several times as well. I have not yet visited their Salem, NH location. Every time I've gone it has been a pleasant experience. Usually the wait time for a table ranges from being instantly seated up to about 20-30 minutes depending on the day / time. They always have delicious specials as well. Today, I ordered their Special Omelette of the day, which was a "Thunderbird Omelette." It was a 3 egg omelette with American cheese, bacon, and carved turkey, and topped with a drizzle of Thousand Island dressing. It was very very good. My partner ordered the "Oscar Omelette" which contains Portabella mushrooms, asparagus, Swiss cheese, and Hollandaise sauce on top. It was also very good. Other times that I've been to Mary Ann's, I've also ordered their flavored french toasts such as the red white and blue french toast or the coffee roll french toast. Both are excellent. Service is always very pleasant, speedy, and attentive. Prices are fair. For my partner and I today ordering 2 omelettes and 2 coffees the total bill came to $23 and change, not including the more than 20% tip we gave our skilled and cordial waitress. Highly recommend, will definitely return multiple times in the future. read more

The "hostess" attempted to sit us in the back corner when there was several open booths in the front. After we as a party of three were sat in a booth for two. We were never given menus! So I'm looking around and notice all the booths for 4+ people have just 2, and we were squeezed into this. At the Maryann's in Derry, a server immediately greets you with at least a menu and coffee... 5 mins... No one. Just went to MaryAnn's opening today in Salem. Oh my god!! Both my boyfriend and I **absolutely** loved it and I don't say that lightly! We didn't have a high standard coming in because we assumed the opening would mean everyone had to still learn the flow of things... NOPE. This far exceeded my normal dining experiences. Delicious, very timely, the waitress was super nice, and the atmosphere is A+. You can tell the staff and owners worked tirelessly to get this opening smooth. Would ABSOLUTELY recommend. read more

Comparable to Derry location, only smaller. Not sure if the small size will be able to accommodate the weekend crowds! Great hot coffee with continuous refills, low prices, friendly staff. Went here with my family as a vegan (yikes), and didn't really feel like being a pain in the butt and ask a million questions. I knew what I was getting myself into so I am not blaming Maryann's at all. My parents were thrilled with their breakfasts and they have a extensive menu per usual. Of course I will drink the wonderful coffee (black or BYO "milk") and I had a fruit bowl, and some butter-less toast (took a chance with the toast being vegan) with salsa. As far as other options, allegedly the home-fries are made w/o butter... not sure on the oil type - I should have inquired. There is also grapefruit available, orange juice and other juices. Oatmeal is available. Possibly bagels, need to ask about the breads I suppose. It would be really neat to see some avocado on the menu, as avocado toast is an easy vegan breakfast. Or hummus/tomato on toast or a bagel :) read more

You would think that being closed because of Covid-19,they would have taken the time to do a DEEP AND THROUGH cleaning. A clone, but a good clone, of the MaryAnn's in Derry. Same menu, it looks like. Good service at the counter, although I did get tired of the waitress calling me 'my dear'. My ham and eggs were fine. I would prefer home fries that are fried on the grill rather than diced and deep-fried. The rye toast was a level above the usual diner plastic-bag bread, and the coffee is good and they keep it coming. Same kitschy decor as the Derry place, but, thankfully, they have the music turned down a bit. Prices very reasonable, excellent deal for a quality breakfast. read more

Oh my! So, we've been trying different breakfast places around us and I've only been pleased with a small handful. However, MaryAnns surpassed my expectations. I'm normally not a huge fan breakfast but their food is so good. They do have a few small select items on the weekends that are not breakfast that are always available. It is definitely always busy when we go, its a very small place. However, its totally worth the wait. I've been trying to get there more and more on the weekends. My kids love this place - not expensive, big portions & really good food. The last time my kids ate there my daughter dropped her iPhone 6 behind a built-in booth. The staff went out of their way to help her out, but couldn't retrieve it. The next day I talked to the general manager who treated me like royalty - he called a carpenter and was ready to tear out the booth if it meant getting the phone back! As it turns out a little ingenuity did the trick, but I had to tell this story to thank the people who work there. It's great to go to a local place with local workers who really care about their customers. We'll be back, for sure! read more

This review update is not so much for future patrons, but for MaryAnns management. Today was a disappointment; our worst MaryAnns experience out of a number of previous visits to all of their locations over the past 2+ years. Ironically, the only segment of our time today that wasn't a bother was the wait, which seemed quicker than usual. However, things started to fall apart when we were looking for coffee refills and our waitperson was proving hard to flag down. We tried on a few occasions, then finally had to shout out to get her attention. Soon afterwards, I observed that the folks at the table next to us, who were seated a good 10 minutes after we were, had received their food before us (they were a party of 4 compared to our 3). From that point, it then took at least another 10 minutes for our food to arrive. Please note, having full view of the kitchen from my seat, I could tell our food delay had nothing to do with our waitperson, as our meals had simply not been prepared yet (unless our waitperson had put our order in late). Once our breakfast was served, we didn't see our waitperson until we were done eating and waiting for the plates to be taken away. Everything came out great and as expected, except for my wife's 'loaded' vegetable omelette with cheese. It was dry, had hardly any cheese in it, and was far from loaded with veggies. Finally, after our check was dropped off, we ended up waiting another 10 minutes or so for our card to be picked up. My wife resorted to running over to the person at the cash register to settle the bill. When asked by this person how everything went today, my wife told her how disappointing both the food and service were. Interestingly, this cashier didn't press for more details, and just responded with an 'I'm sorry to hear that.' We were huge fans of MaryAnns, having brought several family and friends here on numerous visits, not only to Windham, but to their Derry and Salem locations as well. However, after today, and from what I can see with recent reviews here on Yelp, they seem to be going downhill and management should do something about it. With none of their locations having been claimed on this website, I fear our complaints are falling on deaf ears. read more

French Toast is bland, burgers kind of bland, fries not great, pancakes so-so, but the malts, onion rings, benedicts, and sandwiches are really, really great! Give it a try, because the service is wonderful, the ambiance is fun, and the food is really pretty good, especially the benedicts and the sandwiches. read more

They only have two tables for larger parties so don't go if you have more than 6 people! You will wait a long time. We waited over an hour and the staff did not communicate with us at all about the wait. We eventually ordered Togo and still waited a long time. No apologies and no communication. The food was ok but absolutely nothing I would go back for. Won't be visiting again. Bad customer service outweighs anything else anyways. read more

I had the worst breakfast of my entire life this morning, and the service was absolutely mediocre at best. They weren't always this bad but I had beyond raw steak tips, watery uncooked hash and the water tasted like straight ass juice. The wait time is kind of random, some times we get food in 15 mins, other times 45 mins. The food tastes amazing and I will definitely come back soon.
