Any day of the week if you are looking for a version of an al fashioned diner, then MaryAnn's is the place to go. The crowd is large and the food is good. You think of the basics and then you are fine. This is not high end cuisines. This is good old basics that everyone of any age enjoys. You can go alone and sit at the bar, or go with a groupo and get a booth. This is fine. The menu is extensive so will find something to have from pancakes to waffles to French toast, to chicken and fires. Try an omelets and it is ideal with a good selection to try. Whatever you select the portion is French. The food is tasty and traditional. The price is ideal. And the staff is excellent. They know what they are doing and how to help. MarryAnn's Diner is a good change from cooking at home. Try it for breakfast or lunch. Even the sandwiches look great. It is the place to be and enjoy on many levels. read more

Stopped into MaryAnn's diner on a Friday morning. The diner was pretty full, with most of the booths/tables taken, but not too crazy. While our waitress did greet us and take our drink order in normal time, everything else took super long. It took almost another 20 minutes to get our drinks (she forgot one hot coffee for about 75% of the meal) and then another 10 before we got to place our food order. Maybe 15 minutes after putting the food order in, she came to tell us that they were out of one entree, a special, and then more time to come back with a menu and to grab an alternate order. Overall, the food was fine. I got the Gronkowski scramble, which has hash browns, peppers, onions and cheese, with kielbasa and eggs on top. The scramble was pretty tasty although somewhat greasy. My toast had too much butter on it. I also ordered a pumpkin cream cheese muffin. The waitress asked if I wanted it grilled which surprised me. I said no, but alas, out came a muffin cut in half toasted with butter. The muffin was good, but the butter taste definitely took away from the pumpkin flavor. All and all, we were there for 2 hours, which seems insane for a diner breakfast. We had a baby who was getting fussy and ready to go. When the waitress finally took our card, she stopped to chat with a friend as we looked at her ready to leave. Unfortunately, the service really clouded the overall experience. Derry no What has happened to my favorite place. No more lines to get in. Now I know why. I ordered Florentine Benedict eggs hard. Eggs were not even close to what I ordered. So they got sent back. When I RECEIVED my food back. They had not kept my home fries worm. My plate was drenched in hollandaise sauce running all over everything.the eggs were upside down. Throw back 1950's classic rock and roll restaurant with pictures of famous people and musicians. The waitresses are very pleasant dressed in their dresses that they wore during the 50s. They have Bloody Mary's and mimosas .The food was very good as well just like I ordered potatoes and onions were cooked perfect bacon was very tasty to eggs are delicious anyway. read more

This place has been around forever. We used to head here years ago for brek but there are good places closer to home now. The decor is 50's diner style cute and has not changed in 20+ years. Went here last weekend, and I found the service and food to be subpar. We were there before 8 a.m. It was NOT busy! There were more tables empty than full. We stood in the entry way for 10-15 minutes with nobody waiting ahead of us. Twice we were told by passing staff that someone would be right with us. Finally a 3rd person rushed by and pointed to a bunch of empty tables and said "sit at any of those". It was another 10 minutes before a waitress appeared. The food was average. I ordered an omelet with hollandaise so I requested that on the side. It arrived as ordered however the sauce was cold. Not hot, not warm. Cold. I told the waitress and she said that was normal when you ask for it on the side. So I guess I'm supposed to put cold sauce on top of hot food?? Forgot to mention... there's a surcharge for non-cash payment! In this day of everything electronic it's foolish to expect people to pay extra for using other payment methods. It's the cost of doing business and shouldn't be passed on to your customers! Won't return. read more

I don't normally write updates to reviews that I've done very often. But I think it's important to note that over the years, MaryAnn's has dipped in quality a bit. Disclaimer up front: this is not to bash them or say they're no longer a good breakfast place. Hell, they're still great on certain days. It's just...never consistent anymore and if you asked me how often those good days come about, I couldn't tell ya. So, the basic breakfast items still taste....relatively the same even years later. But the two biggest cons going against this MaryAnn's are the coffee and the service. The coffee is downright pitiful these days. I THINK my bestie got a decently brewed cup the other month or something. But typically, it's weak like a breakfast blend and difficult to sweeten properly. It's a little tough to explain. But try imagining pouring cream into store bought tea whilst pretending it's coffee. Let's just say....there's a reason I always go to Brooklyn Bagel House down the street. I mean, they ARE my favorite breakfast place. But also....it's nice to have options for coffee blends, inside a laid back dining area where it's not as chaotic. The servers here look hella stressed and with good reason. I can't be certain. But I'm pretty sure they have staffing issues. And yet....certain things probably shouldn't take as long as they do. Like receiving your food. It took over 45 minutes to receive breakfast on a day where they were serving ONLY breakfast. So yeah, the food is still like most of us remember it (for the most part). But the fact that I can't even enjoy coffee at a breakfast place seriously makes me consider the risk of being mislabeled an alcoholic, should I decide to just order mimosas from now on. Such a great place. I was traveling through from CT and saw this cute dinner on a main street setting. Went inside and was greeted with a fantastic 50s theme and waitstaff wearing 50s style clothing. They are crushing it here! This is a really large diner-themed restaurant in the middle of downtown Derry. It's amazing - not only is it super large inside so you'll find a spot, but the food is amazing and the menu is perfect and enormous! I had an Italian sandwich special and it hit the spot! Brought my grandson to breakfast because we like the food there. Haven't been in awhile. He got the usual loaded, meat livers omelette and a side of two pieces of French toast. That was a fail. French toast is made with Texas toast. This was made with plain white bread. I decided to try their "chipped beef" since I love their sausage gravy on biscuits. That was another major fail. It was chunks of hamburger meat in some brownish gravy. I still have indigestion 7 hours later and I didn't even eat it all. I grew up on real chipped beef and this was totally disgusting. They should just call this hamburger gravy and stop misleading customers. Was sad to say, I wasted money eating there today. I love this retro 50's style diner! They go all out with the theme, the music and the outfits the waitresses wear. I've been coming here for years with my family. It's our favorite go to diner for breakfast. The food has always been excellent & the staff is always super friendly. Wait time isn't normally too bad unless you come during their busiest time or on a holiday. But that's to be expected anywhere. One thing I'll say is they have definitely spiked up their prices a lot, which is a real bummer because they used to have the best prices around for a diner. read more

This is only getting 3 stars because of past experiences being much better....We arrived to Mary Anne's at 9:40. Waiting to be seated as usual, not a big deal on weekends. Ordered beverages than food, after receiving drinks (missing a few waters) we received our food around 10:20. While we waited for refills we asked for about 20 mins prior we found out an order of food was not filled. We had to sit and eat in front of our friend until he received food around 10:50. He quickly ate and we all agreed we wanted to get out of this restaurant as soon as possible. I won't name the waitress out of morale but I won't be coming back anytime soon. read more

Went here last Saturday morning at 11 for some brunch. Place was pretty busy as they usual are on weekends. Waitress was really nice and helpful. If you go on weekends I found out they only serve breakfast which was kinda annoying but I get it. Ordered chicken and waffles thankfully they let me get it as I assumed it's breakfast food! For the price it wasn't really worth it.....2 small chicken tenders on top of a waffle! I've been to other places that give you 3-5 chicken tenders that are big. Food is always pretty good and quick service so I'll keep coming back just wish I could've had more chicken! read more

Went back home recently and went back to my old stomping grounds. Food was good as usual, or at least my kids food was. My order was wrong, and when we asked when the corrected order was coming we were told it hadn't even been started yet. I just grazed off their plates and told them not to bother. Disappointed since the first food took half an hour and it wasn't even busy. Place has kinda gotten run down. A few years ago you'd get your food lightning fast even when it was packed. Parking stinks, but it always has. Food is inexpensive and good... otherwise I'd have given it a 2 star rating. Not only have I heard bad things about this place but not for nothing the food is not very good quality and they forget a lot of the food and I feel like that is really bad especially for how long you have to wait I have gone and had to wait for up to an hour for a simple breakfast and the waiters don't have very good attitudes either. Very disappointed. I threw up 3 hours after eating at this place. I had to ask for new silver wear multiple times and it was still dirty like it's not that hard to clean a fork. The staff is rude and obnoxious. The carpets look as old as my great grandma and she is dead. I swear the bathrooms were as dirty as trash cans outside. We return here from time to time. I have seen the quality of the food decline in recent years. The hollendiase sauce that comes with the breakfasts is really bad, its vertically tasteless and often bitter. Skip it or - ask for it on the side. ALso- lemons are old and near past- not fresh. Why would I want a old limp lemon in my drink? Many little things can add to to a lot of just average. read more

A very nice restaurant with a 1950's decor. Complete with a juck box,and a Texaco gas pump as you walk in the front door. 1950's memorabilia on the walls,and all the waitresses wore poodle skirts. The service was spot on even though it was the lunchtime rush. We both ordered an omelette. It was cooked beautifully,home fries were done right, not hard or crunchy,but crisp and fluffy on the inside. Parking on the street,or in the modest parking lot in back. The menu offers typical diner fare including specials. On the weekends and holidays, the place is SMOKE FREE and it's breakfast menu only. I had a very good lunch at Mary Ann's Diner. I strolled in around 11:45 AM on a Tuesday just in time to grab a small booth near the lunch counter. The table top surface was full of local advertisements to browse. The place was fairly busy and getting busier for lunch. The friendly waitress came over with a menu and I quickly saw the Shepherd's Pie Special with Dinner Salad and Roll ($7.25) and said "I'll have the Shepherd's Pie Special with an ice water with lemon." The Dinner Salad (served in a bowl) was basic California lettuce with tomato chunks, cucumbers, and red onion, very simple and nothing special. The Shepherd's Pie was a generous portion of baked mashed potatoes with ground beef, bacon, lots of niblet corn, & brown gravy with a hot roll. It was tasty and very good. The Shepherd's Pie must be very popular because by 12:15 PM, the kitchen ran out: "No more shepherd's pie!" Glad I got here early. The kitchen was doing a great job cranking out food orders because the pickup area was always full with high turnover. I couldn't leave here before trying a dessert, so I ordered the Strawberry Shortcake a la Mode ($2.75), which had sugar strawberries, shortcake biscuits, vanilla ice cream, and topped with a lot of whipped cream served in a soup bowl. I stopped in for breakfast one morning. I opted to sit at the counter. I spied "The Gronkowski Scramble," on the menu, named for New England Tight End Rob Gronkowski - which is a scramble with mushrooms, onions, bell peppers, cheese, and Kielbasa - I ordered with no bread and no potatoes. I also ordered a side of bacon and a cup of coffee. While I was waiting for my order, I noted that the waitresses were all wearing 1950s era poodle skirts and most of them had a ribbon in their hair. The place was very busy but my good came out relatively quickly for being so busy - less than 10 minutes. I asked for hot sauce and was given a choice between Tabasco sauce and Sriracha - I went with the Sriracha and applied a generous dose, plus some black pepper. Pretty basic dish, but still pretty tasty and filling! Several times the waitress checked on me, and attempted to refill my coffee. I asked if Rob Gronkoski had ever visited to try the scramble named after him - she did not know. Good place for breakfast! read more

Why on earth is this place so highly reviewed? I went here for the first time this morning with my husband. You just seat yourself which is fine and they have plenty of seating options which is also nice. Our waitress literally comes by right away and she was very friendly. We get our coffee and water within minutes and then place our order. I got the Benedict Florentine and he got the special eggs benny which came on potatoe pancakes and two sausage patties, all covered in sausage gravy. They arrive and actually look good! Well that was the end of that.... my eggs were extremely undercooked, I enjoy a runny yolk but I don't want my whites underdone. The whites were sooooo runny it was disgusting. My husbands potatoes were cold and undercooked, the gravy was also not very good. I have to add that both of our plates of food were not hot, barely warm which is strange. Overall a massive fail on both dishes. Side note: It appears that they may have been running a party of some sort so maybe the kitchen was super backed up and running sloppy, I don't know. All I know is we left and went to a different breakfast joint. Let us hope that place is better lol. read more

I went here for lunch with my boyfriend. We were in the area & wanted to try it. I am a big fan of diners so I couldn't wait to try it. The waitresses all were dressed in poodle skirts. The atmosphere was very colorful & bright. It is a pretty large space from what I can tell. When we walked in, the sign said to "seat yourself at a clean table" so we took an immediate right into a large open dining room. There were 3 booths along the windows which looked inviting to sit at, but 1 was occupied & 2 had signs saying "OUT OF SERVICE" for reasons unknown... We found another booth nearby. It was in rough shape with duct tape covering major tears. That's a minor detail, though. The rest of the place looked to be in fine shape. We must have picked a very popular booth if it was that worn! Our waitress came right over with menus & took our drink order. In a reasonable amount of time she came & took our food orders. The menu was very large & certainly had plenty of options. I went for the sausage eggs benedict; the gravy was so delicious but a little on the heavy side. My boyfriend had the Irish eggs benedict with an extra side of corn beef & pancakes. Ultimately the food was nice & hot - definitely great portions! We also each had a Bloody Mary. No shame in a little day drinking! I don't live nearby at all, at least over an hour. But if I am in the area again I would certainly go here again. I recommend MaryAnn's Diner! read more
