I was just here on Saturday and it was a great breakfast! The service wasn't too bad for the weekend and the line usually moves. Best part is while you wait, you can get your fix of Cold coffee or hot coffee. The ambience is pretty plain but works good for this restaurant. Now let's get to the food.. Today I ordered their special chorizo Benedict and I'm so glad that I did. Everything went well together and I personally don't care for English muffins and usually substitute them for a biscuit but not today I left it the way it's suppose to be and it was great! We were looking for a breakfast place on our way to Boston. We found this place on yelp and decided to check it out. It was early on a Sat morning. There was a 10 minute wait which wasn't bad. They have a coffee bar while you wait which is great. The place is open and bright. The food was great. I got the Southwest omelette and my wife got southwest quesadillas. It came out quickly and the waitress was very attentive. The only thing was it was a little loud. Not bad but enough to notice. Will definitely be coming back. read more

Being going there for 12 years. It's changed owners 4x but some cook staff has stayed and new staff follows the same recipes and the wait staff is the best. This was a solid breakfast stop between Boston's Logan Airport and the Lakes District of New Hampshire. I had the woodsmen's Benedict and the hollandaise sauce was the standout of every meal that included it. One of my poached eggs was cooked perfectly and the other wasn't runny at all when I cut into it. The breakfast potatoes are fine, just bland. I'm from central California so I don't order Mexican food on the east coast but my aunt got the huevos rancheros and we all tried a bite. It's definitely not traditional but it was very flavorful. We love this place and the staff really gets to know their customers. The food is typically as requested and hot out of the kitchen. If it is not; they are quick to remedy. Many breakfast places in the area but Maddie's seems to have the highest quality and most consistent service. A must have for breakfast and also some pretty yummy lunches. read more

Haven't been here in forever. The tight quarters (elbow to elbow with the guy next to you, practically) tend to have me go elsewhere. But Ellie wanted to meet here, so we did. PRO- The coffee was very good. I drink it black, so I appreciate tasty coffee. Ellie & I both got the breakfast sandwich, with egg & bacon. It was good, nothing to write home about. Home fries were tasty. CON- The tight quarters I mentioned above & I'd have appreciated a few more home fries with my order. Wait time for a table was lengthy, good problem for them! Food took an exceptionally long time to arrive. Service was good and pleasant. Food was ok. My eggs were cooked to order, my grilled English muffin was soft, almost like it was steamed and the home fries were great but they really skimped on the amount of potatoes. The woodsman's benedict was delicious. Everyone was friendly and the food came out quick. The hot coffee was meh, not much flavor.

Food is still solid but the atmosphere is dreadful. Some examples: -Fox News on the TV. -Hostess shouting names. -While waiting, with the hoards of people, no where to stand, always in someone's way. -Very loud and difficult to hold a conversation. -Floors , and other areas are looking a bit grubby. Come Hungry! Maddie's is a great breakfast / brunch option that has big portions for a fair price. One section of the restaurant is setup as a waiting area and to process take out orders, and the rest is packed full of tables for indoor and outdoor dining. They usually fill up fast, and they won't seat you until everyone in your party is present, so be prepared to wait if you come later in the morning. But they are good at turning tables over fast, so you may not need to wait for too long. They have classic breakfast menu options plus several more creative variations, and the food is consistently yummy (regardless of if you dine-in or take-out). This is a place we always plan to visit when we have family and friends who visit from out of town / out of state, and Maddie's never disappoints! read more

This is an adorable breakfast/lunch restaurant that I found out about through a family member and it did not disappoint. I've been here twice and each visit was very enjoyable. So enjoyable I forgot to take photos of my food because I had eaten too much before I realized I didn't take any. I love the atmosphere. The decor is cheery with photos of sunflowers on the walls. The servers are very friendly and attentive. During my first visit, I ordered the veggie omelette, which with comes with toast and homefries, hasbrowns, beans, or fruit. The portion sizes are incredibly generous, especially considering all the omelettes are under $10. I opted for the homefries. I would have liked them a little crispier but they were tasty otherwise. The omelette was delicious and they have a lot of options for bread for toast. For my second visit, I got their pumpkin pancake special since I'm one of those "pumpkin spice everything once fall hits" girls. The pancakes were huge and came with fresh blueberries and strawberries. They had enough pumpkin spice flavor to set them apart from their regular pancakes without being too much. Both times I visited it was busy but they were still able to maintain appropriate social distancing due to COVID-19. Indoor and outdoor seating available, sufficient space between tables, employees wearing masks and cleaning tables frequently. I will be back because I love breakfast food and they have so many more options I want to try. Also I need to remember to get photos of my food next time. read more

First time here and very pleased. The food was nice and tasty, my boyfriend loved the Rancheros chili, their lemon tea cake was delish. Portions are huge, we were so full and still have food left. We were staying overnight in Salem and let our son pick our breakfast place. He chose Maddie's and I have to say, he chose VERY well. Deprived of decent coffee in the hotel, we were delighted to walk in and see a serve-yourself coffee bar complete with multiple types of coffee and creamers, including a non-dairy option. The place was busy on a Sunday morning, but the staff was incredibly friendly and moved tables quickly. We had a grilled, double chocolate muffin to start, and then I had the breakfast quesadilla. Everything tasted fresh and well made, a great breakfast that wasn't too greasy or cheesy. We will definitely go back next time we are in town. read more

Stopped in for breakfast on a Weds around 7:30am. Not too busy then, but it was busy when I left at 8am. I was seated after a minute and offered coffee. Asked if they had non-dairy creamer and they have two kinds, the hideous coffee mate and - hooray! - almond milk! Big plus to have a cruelty-free option. They brought me some with my coffee. Coffee is good and strong - go slow if you're caffeine sensitive. My server was great, friendly, accommodating, attentive, efficient and everything she brought was right. It turns out she was a customer for years before working here. She deserved the big tip for being excellent. I got a custom omelet with sausage, spinach, broccoli and cheese plus hash browns and rye toast. Four huge slices of marble rye toast which was delicious. I took half of it home as I'm limiting carbs and I never do that, it was just that good. Omelet was well cooked, generously and evenly filled. Nice amount of sausage, spinach and cheese. Two areas for improvement are the hash browns and the broccoli. I expect broccoli florets in an omelet, not mostly stalks and really not thick stalks. Brocoli was cooked but I don't enjoy gnawing on stalks. The hash browns taste like Sysco generic brand. Hash browns are easy to make tasty and it brings down the meal to have such lame hash browns. They were cooked right, just way too bland. A great place for a solid breakfast with some interesting options and very good service. read more

All good things must come to an end. All the things that made Maddie's special, with the exception of the wait staff, is gone under new ownership. The food is no longer good. They have clearly switched out the bread, which used to be moist and dense and is now insubstantial and dry; and the hash, which is way too salty and has no flavor. And they are so cheap with the Hollandaise you can barely find it on the plate. Maybe it's cheaper for them to do things this way but it's definitely not better. And the way they "redecorated" the place makes the ambiance drab, depressing and impersonal. Plain walls and colonial green paint have replaced the happy yellow colors and cheery artwork. We won't be running back. At least we have some good memories from their heyday. Now Maddie's is just another breakfast place that's nothing special. read more

Finally visited Maddie's for breakfast having heard many positive comments over the years. If I was to put a word to it, that word would be disappointing based on the high expectations. My wife and I both opted for Benedicts. I had my standard go to Irish Benedict while she ordered the Black Forest Beni. On both orders the eggs were over cooked to the point of being a bit on the hard side, no runny yolk. The corned beef hash on mine was just okay. The beni was tasty enough to get a 3rd star but could have been so much better if the eggs were cooked correctly. The side of home fries was average, not really adding much to the plate. I like onion in my home fries. There were none. My wife did enjoy her Black Forest ham Beni, even with the overcooked egg. Service was fine. I'll visit again but will probably stay away from the Benedicts. read more

My cousin and I tried Maddie's in Salem NH today for breakfast. I had no idea it was there and had a bit of a time finding it, but it is in the McKinnon's lot, in a separate building behind the gas station. it was packed, 20 min wait. We both decided on the Sweet Potato Pancakes w candied walnuts and cranberries. The waitress said that the regular order has 3 big pancakes, but we can order as many or few as we wanted. We went w 2 each and a side of bacon. They were very good, even though I am a savory and rarely order pancakes or waffles for breakfast. Next time I go I will get Benedict as that is my favorite breakfast to order out. Literally everyone at this restaurant from the server who greeted us at the door to the cashier who took our to go order was extremely friendly and accommodating.
