My wife and I were out mid-day on a Tuesday and thought we'd give MaryAnn's Diner a try. We had driven by MaryAnn's many times and noticed how packed the parking lot usually is. The first thing you notice on entry is the 50's decor. There are 50's-style Americana images everywhere. There was a short line of people getting seated. We were seated in less than five minutes and the maitre-d was friendly. We were seated at a small table that had the 50's-style amoeba-pattern on the formica top. Although it was near noontime, we both ordered breakfast which is served all day. I ordered the The 50's Special which consisted of two eggs, sausage, toast, french toast and hash browns. My wife ordered the French Toast breakfast. We both had coffee and ice water was provided. The food was what you'd expect at a diner. The portions were large and the food was good but not outstanding. My French toast was small and somewhat tasteless. The eggs, sausage and toast were good. The hash browns appeared to be originally frozen and then deep fried although they were tasty. Our waitress was pleasant and efficient. We didn't have to wait too long for our orders to arrive. Our two breakfasts and coffees amounted to exactly $40 including tax and a 20% tip. So what is my conclusion? I would go back if I was in the area and in the mood for a big breakfast at a fair price. However, I wouldn't go out of my way for it. read more

Here's the thing. While I'm aware that I've already discussed this place, I am also aware that I have been a total slack ass in my review writing duties as of late. Perhaps it's the economic times. Or perhaps it's due to the fact that I have recently become a "financial mutant", so to speak. But, I digress. Point is, most of you probably already know the backstory behind the newly constituted MaryAnn's Diner in Amherst. But for those of you unfamiliar with the local history, this place used to be known as Joey's Diner. Then, recently acquired by new ownership. While I can't speak to the former, I will briefly review the latter that we all know and adore today. As MaryAnn's continues to carry on the tradition of hosting a nostalgic 50s style dining room theme, to include a pop-culture referenced epithet themed menu selection from the same time period, it also carries with it simple, straightforward comfort food. Among other things, this place embodies casual family breakfast dining in a way that should prove pleasing to the palate. Not to mention, MaryAnn's as a chain has sort of a cult following here in NH. Like many others before and after it, however, this newly established 50s style diner isn't without its flaws. The coffee is still lame and weak as tea water. The parking lot also has a weird and unsafe trend going where folks inexplicably park right in front of what appears to be an entrance/exit point. A tragically flawed parking lot design perhaps? Dunno, but it's stupid as hell. But to tell the truth, those are the only real complaints I have about this particular location. The food is what you'd expect from a competent MaryAnn's. The service is stellar as all hell! I was able to get a seat within seconds of arriving around 8 on a Sunday morning. And the staff genuinely seem to enjoy themselves here. This is always good to see because it translates over to their service overall. As for the food, it was mostly good. I say mostly because of that sad looking toast. I'm not even sure you could call it toast, as it more resembled slightly stale bread with melted butter in the center. Poor thing was barely buttered properly. Note to self: get an English muffin next visit. But other than that, this one's a keeper. Dare I say....it's even better than the one located in my hometown. Although, I think my beverage of choice from here on out may be the Mimosa. MaryAnn's in Amherst gets 4 savory plates of bacon and eggs out of 5. read more

We were in the area and stopped in for an early breakfast. Its the typlical Maryann's Diner decor and menu what we expected. I had the special "meatloaf bacon florentine" which was a meatloaf stuffed with cheese and spinach and wrapped in bacon. It was tasty, but the spinach did not make it. Food took a bit of time to come out which was fine. Food was prepared well and tasted fresh. Service was pleasant. One thing worth mentioning was that the ceiling was not clean. The air vents were covered in dirt and the tiles were stained and dusty as well. read more

My wife had the chicken pie while I had a BLT club with fries. Everything was very good and the fries weren't greasy as you get at other diners.The restaurant was clean and the service was very good. I asked if there was a gluten free menu, only to be asked if I had Celiac. They have gluten sensitive foods but because I have Celiac, they refused to serve me... How embarrassing in this day and age not to accommodate an allergy. I specifically asked if they could cook an egg in a separate pan and was told... Well I guess I could ask.. Under new ownership, MaryAnn's Diner took over the former Joey's Diner in Amherst serving all day breakfast, lunch, and dinner (Fri-Sat). Just like Joey's, this place has that retro 50s diner vibe with classic red & white booths and chairs, classic decorations, Coca Cola decor, jukebox, traffic light, and classic car cutouts. The food menu offered here is similar to Joey's Diner, but it's now the MaryAnn's Diner menu, which is also offered at their three other locations in Derry, Salem, and Windham. They offer a good sized breakfast menu, plus lunch fare such as sandwich platters, soups, salads, appetizers, comfort entrees, desserts, frappes, floats, and ice cream treats. They also serve beer, wine, and cocktails. My favorite breakfast here has been the Country Fried Steak with Gravy, eggs, hash browns and toast. I stopped in at MaryAnn's Diner in Amherst for Friday dinner. The place wasn't too busy and I could seat myself where I wanted. The waiter arrived with menu, and offered a drink (I got ice water). I decided on the Penne with Meatballs ($12.99 plus tax) served with garlic bread and added a side garden salad ($2.99 plus tax). The pasta dish arrived hot in about 10 minutes, but I did not get my side salad yet. The server went back to the kitchen and got me the side salad with dressing on the side and some parmesan cheese for the pasta. The side salad was a good size with fresh crisp romaine lettuce, cherry tomatoes, red onion, and green peppers. The bowl of pasta had soft cooked penne with a thick savory marinara sauce and 3 homemade soft meatballs. This was really good, but I did request a box for half of my pasta to bring home. The check was dropped off which came out to $17.34 with tax and before tip. Overall, a good filling tasty dinner with a minor hiccup. I would return to this location for breakfast since it's sort of on my way out to Milford and beyond. read more

The eldest couldn't finish her snowman pancakes (too much whipped cream) but the other two polished off their meals (and not from the kid's menu, either). I went the more traditional route, a turkey club and fried onion rings. As it was only 4:30 p.m., I took most of mine home to eat later. (The onion rings and tater tots were delicious. I reheated them in the air fryer.) The girls loved the ambiance of the restaurant and enjoyed their meals. Me and my family go here all the time . Usually for breakfast so I'm not sure what the lunch and dinner menus is like. The service is amazing and all the workers Are welcoming and very sweet. Inside has 50's decor and it's beautiful !! They have inside and outside seating ( weather dependent). The server took our drink order and we continued to look at the large selection in the menu book. The youngest 2 ordered Mickey pancakes with bacon, next was the special, 2 eggs, 2 bacon 2 pancakes, another special with French toast instead of pancakes, eggs Benedict and lastly ham & cheese omelette. Visit was over a month ago. The dust on the ceiling...OMG. No pride in this establishment. I imagine the kitchen would be just gross. The food was meh. Over cooked bacon, that definitely indicated a grill that wasn't clean. The home fries tasted like straight grease. Update to provide more context. I had a strange and humiliating experience with our server - Tracy. Well, it began with the two hostesses in the front debating with one another on where to seat us, which I thought was a bit odd, but shook it off. However, it only got more disconcerting from there. So, a female friend and I visited this diner (Amherst location) for the first time today (4/21/24). While Tracy was very friendly and attentive toward my friend and all other patrons in the restaurant, she 100% ignored me, to the point that whenever I asked her a question, she turned to my friend and answered it while looking at my friend instead of me. She tried to avoid me as much as possible, not just verbally, but also with eye - contact and body language. This was done every single time I asked a question - the answer was directed at my friend, even though she knew that the question came from me. I did a little experiment by asking questions at different times during my meal, and every time - as predicted, Tracy would turn to look directly at my friend to answer. I was in such a state of disbelief and couldn't understand why I was being treated that way. While Tracy was about five feet away, she must have overheard me ask my friend, "Why does she keep looking at you when answering my questions?" Yet she still continued with the same behavior. Even when it was clear that I was the person paying, I was still not being serviced. When I asked Tracy, "Can I have the check, please?" She turned to my friend and answered, "Sure, it'll be right out." Then, when she brought out the check, she left it with my friend and told her, "Let me know when you're ready and I'll cash you out." I have worked in the food service industry - as a server and on the management teams - for both privately owned and corporate owned establishments, and this incident left me at a loss. We in the industry also know that an entire table is supposed to feel welcomed and comfortable, rather than singling one person to the point where they are unacknowledged in every manner. Honestly, I was and am at a total loss for words. I did not present myself to Tracy in an offensive manner, nor was I rude to her. There was nothing about me or my behavior that stood out in any way. The only difference I could think of, was that I am a person of color, while my friend and Tracy were both white. I mentioned this not to imply anything, but simply for the sake of clarity and to provide you with a complete picture of the situation. I still left a generous tip for Tracy because I was in shock and needed time to process what the heck had just happened. As I thought more about this later on, I realized that there wasn't one single redeeming moment during my visit at Mary Ann's Diner. It wasn't just a mistake here and there, but that I was deliberately, constantly disregarded, the entire time that I was at the restaurant. Everything was so intentionally done, it was undeniable and so inexcusable, that there was no room for the benefit of the doubt. I will not revisit this establishment because I was treated so appallingly without a valid reason. It wasn't the occasional mistake, but - rather, constant and intentional humiliation. I came here for the cool 1950s decor and vibe, not the 1950s treatments. What you do with this information is up to you; whom you choose to support directly reflects your values. UPDATE: I emailed the restaurant on 4/22/2024 and there has been no response, which is fine, but I find it interesting that so many new reviews have been coming out in droves elsewhere online, in order to drown mine out. Breakfast was very bland, I got the egg florentine. The hollandaise sauce tasted like nothing so I added salt and pepper and the eggs were way over cooked. My husband got an omelette stuffed with sausage and peppers but it wasn't stuff with much of anything. My daughter got cereal, they only offered the tiny boxes and they are $4.00! I understand a business needs to make money but c'on those boxes are tiny! Lastly, the waitress never came once to check on us or even ask if we wanted a refill on our drinks. Surprised it want to crowded yet it took 20 minutes to be seated as the one person working the front was taking forever to take down an order. People started piling up in the entrance area. After finally getting seated, service was fantastic. Unfortunately, the food was bad. Ordered omelets which were way overcooked. Burned. And lacking flavor. Coffee was not good. For a greasy spoon on a shoestring budget, it would have been passable, but our bill for two adults and two kids was almost $100. It's not worth it for me. No plans to return. read more
