As some of you probably already know, I'm a sucker for a good cozy local breakfast place. Apropos, I happened upon this place via Yelp through a fluke, really. Meaning to click on someone's check-in or something, I ended up clicking on this diner instead. I read the menu, saw they had one of my all time favorites (the hash & eggs), then I was instantly sold! Naturally, the hash & eggs lived up to their rep. Cookies offers both canned and house made hash (though I almost always choose the former for personal reasons) and the homefries were well seasoned and crispy on the outside. Unfortunately, as with most breakfast places, they can't seem to butter toast very well. A minor inconvenience, at worst. My recommendation would be to maybe sub this for a bagel with cream cheese (note to self), unless you're one of those jam on toast types. In which case, have at you. The coffee was decent. Obviously a breakfast blend that's not too bold. But at least it didn't taste like tea. Now, I gotta talk about the layout real quick, because it's rather unique. You may have noticed in the outside photo that there's two entrances. That's because the one on the right is meant for handicapped accessibility (hence the ramp). I have to say...that's rather thoughtful of them. Of course, given the inordinately high volume of senior citizens residing in NH, why am I even surprised? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Also, the interior is interesting because it has these two sections; the main dining area where the restrooms are also located, and a smaller back area with a mini bar and a few other tables. If you manage to be seated at one of the tables along the middle of both areas, there's this open window where you can view the mini bar and kitchen. This is also where the servers operate from if you're sitting at said tables. I hope I described that accurately, since taking photos of the interior without accidentally capturing a few faces was next to impossible. So, would I return? Certainly, if I ever manage to convince the wifey to join me (she's not what you'd call an early riser). The food here is very diner-esque (IYKYK) and I dare say rivals that of The Good Place on Lowell road. I'm giving Cookies Diner 4 plates of savory hash & eggs out of 5. read more

Local breakfast place that serves up simply delicious foods. The service was attentive, friendly, and efficient. I didn't catch his name but he was especially nice and clearly motivated to provide excellent customer service. The poached eggs were perfect; you don't always get that sweet spot poach. You do here, friends. The home fries are crunchy out, fluffy in with a nice spice level. Not sure if they make their own hollandaise but it's a nice one. If you're gf, get that bene on the gf toast - perfect size for it and it holds up nicely - good tasting. The sausage links are delish, cooked just right. The pancake was really good, fluffy delight even sans syrup. Good coffee, nice iced tea. I'm reviewing for a party of 3, y'all. Portions are ample for sure. Fried steak bene was also a big win, clean plate on that one. Ham and cheese omelet, also done just right. I'm not sure if this place is extremely understaffed but we didn't have just one server being attentive to our table. Seems disorganized even when the place is basically empty. We waited a long time to get our food but everything else was quick. When I placed an order for 3 waters, 2 of the cups were extremely dirty. One of the cups had whipped cream smeared on the outside. When I asked for another cup of water because of it the server came back and told me that "the black stuff is the reflection" which is crazy because I was seeing the white substance not black? Invalidating a customers review is also unprofessional to me because that excuse was insane. When we finally got our food, while the server placed the plate of pancakes, her arm touched our toast and I'm not sure if she noticed but that part bothered me. If you don't mind waiting for your food, cookies is perfect. We almost always get sat right away but end up waiting 10+ minutes for a waitress. By the time she gets back with drinks you're beyond ready to order. Food is very slow to come out sometimes, but they make up for it! You get a ton of food without breaking the bank for breakfast. The staff isn't the most friendly if you aren't a regular but I've found most breakfast places are like that. read more

When you arrive at Cookies, the first thing you find is that, well it's not easy to find. The restaurant is in a storefront where all the businesses look exactly the same. The fact that Cookies occupies what I am sure was intended to be three stores means you might find yourself walking into the wrong door. When I stepped into the waiting room, my first impression of the place is more "so what" than anything else. The interior is painted some almost but not quite offensive yellow. I think the attempt was to make it warm and cozy, but with everything the same bland color, that's not what it looked like to me. It looks like if you are a local, they allow you to bring in your own coffee mug and leave it on a shelf in the waiting room. I didn't take the time to count, but the fact that there were over 100 mugs on the wall indicates that Cookies does have a good set of regulars. The wait at 9AM on a Sunday was less than 10 minutes. The place was busy, but not crowded. Seems the trade is mostly regulars, as the standard set up at a table does not include a menu. It's a pretty good-sized menu, but my eyes went straight to the section titled "Things With Sausage Gravy." I spotted the Country Benny (biscuit, sausage patty, two poached eggs covered with sausage gravy and a side of home fries) and it was clear what I was going to have for my breakfast. Mmmm, sausage gravy. When it's good, it's almost like you are eating food meant for the gods! But to often it's just a white cream-colored thing that has a similar texture but nothing else. Too often what's passed off as sausage gravy in a breakfast joint has neither the sausage, nor the taste to be called anything other than library paste. This happens so frequently I am hesitant to order it at any of the normal breakfast places, but Cookies has the audacity to name an entire section of menu after their gravy, it can't be awful, can it? I quietly drank my tea, and covered my nervousness by reading the front page of the paper. My plate arrived and it was sufficiently covered with a semi liquid substance that was studded with the proper amount of sausage crumbles to hopefully provide the right taste and texture. I hesitantly took my first bite. Nice texture, hints of sausage, no pasty uncooked flour taste. It's eatable; no it's even good. Not as good as Bob Evans sausage gravy, the Holy Grail of sausage gravy in my book, but I was going to be able to eat, and better yet, enjoy this. Hey wait, there's some more items on my plate, are they any good? The poached eggs where not rubbery, the yolk was a bright yellow color and tasty. The sausage patty was just a bit subtler than I prefer, but then I like a very assertive breakfast sausage. The biscuit was just fair, but I will admit it is better than mine. (I can't seem to make a decent biscuit no matter what I try. Sadly the things out of the tube are better than anything I can whip up in my kitchen.) The home fries where fair to middling. These where not home made, but instead of the tiny cubes of deep fried potato like substance that Sysco delivers to every shop that thinks they are a local diner, Cookies seems to have opted for the next level up in quality. These were larger chunk of potato lightly deep-fried and covered with a bit of seasoning before being shipped across the country. So not awful, but not as good as if they started with real potatoes back in the kitchen. Service was just a bit slow, but not painfully so. Clearly the tempo is intended for one to linger over the food and enjoy their breakfast companions. That seems appropriate for a Sunday morning. Cookies is just a breakfast place now, closing time is noon on weekdays and 1 on weekends. I think I will be back here, when I need my next sausage gravy fix. It was good enough I don't feel the need to explore the rest of the menu. read more

They understand the subtlety of how to get breakfast right! Finally a place you can go where you aren't disappointed and bloated when you leave. The weight staff is a relentless army that never leaves your cup empty in the most gentle of ways. You can taste the butter they fry the eggs in(is that kerrigold?) You can taste the vanilla in the French toast mix, and the waffles are made with whole wheat Kodiak mix, they spare no expense in making the tastiest of breakfast, and I'm mad I didn't come sooner! We stopped at Cookies Cafe after my son's hockey game. The service was excellent. Our waitress (I didn't catch her name) was outstanding. She was knowledgeable in regards to the menu, smiling, and friendly. My husband said his ham and cheese omelette was one of the best he's ever had, my French toast was good, my son's pancakes were delicious! Forever I thought I would have to scoop up, drop on top, or after-bite to get my toast with my eggs. The fine folks at Cookie's Chuck Wagon Inc said nay. They offered my at an affordable price a breakfast bread bowl. I responded with an excitably audible "Hell yeah a breakfast bread bowl". The bread bowl was full of sausage, eggs, cheese, and home-fries. You have the option for veggies, but I am a man who wishes to revive the time honored affliction known as gout. I decided to pass on whats essentially grass. Now as I bit into the amazing bowl of awesome I thought to myself maybe the home-fries will suck. In that first bite I was taken aback by the symphony of flavours that is the good home-fry. It had a little bite enough for a zesty flavour. The eggs were eggy, the sausage was good. The bread bowl reminded me off french toast but not quite french toast. The meal was a hit. Now as I like to bring an accomplice to all my forays into gastronomy. I brought a lady who I insisted go with chicken fried steak as she had never done so before. It was not so amazing the steak while thick had a batter like taste. The service was quick and polite at the Cook Wagon. I read the French toast was the dish to drive for, so I had that. The bread is fresh and homemade but I found the French part disappointing. I like my French toast to have the egg mixture soaked in a little, but the bread was straight up bread. Homefries are fried. Scrambled eggs were good. My corn muffin was underimpressive. We just happened to drive by and see the sign for Cookies Cafe so we gave it a try for breakfast. We were immediately greeted and seated, and waited on by the owner. The menu was big and had lots of variety. After narrowing it down between five different items, I got a Mediterranean omelet and a side of crispy bacon. My husband got scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries, toast and two pancakes ...for $8.99! We loved our breakfasts, the home fries were delicious, eggs cooked just right, my English muffin was grilled and delicious. Try this unassuming place, you won't be disappointed. I have been going to cookies chuckwagon for several years. Recently found out they are under new management. Cookies cafe. Still great food reasonable pricing and great wait staff. All in all an excellent diner experience. I do however have one complaint. Alrighty, so I figured I'd give it another shot and it turns out, so far, to be consistently good. Last time I got the chicken fried steak and it was very good, the batter and steak was excellent. Though, I'll admit the meat sauce threw me off, as I was expecting the ol' white pepper gravy, but I was tasty non the less. Today I was going to go with "The Duke" but I wanted to try their bacon and sausage links but the waitress noted that it was cheaper to go with a different meal that was the same but had both meats, so that was a nice touch. Again everything came out wonderfully. Eggs were cooked well, bacon and sausage were flavorful and the potato hash things are somehow my favorite. Possibly above all it all comes out hot and at a good price with two slices of toast for about 10 dollars. I had a OJ which of course bumped it up, but it good OJ in my opinion. On a side note I found out the bread is baked in house and is actually very delicious in its right. Very few customers on the morning we went for our first and last breakfast here. Wait staff was friendly enough and because the place was nearly empty it didn't take long for our meals to arrive. However, the toast and coffee were burnt, eggs had no flavor at all and omelets were paper thin. The only good item was the home fries, which appear to be deep fried instead of grilled. Prices were on the high side for what you get. Definitely not worth our money to return for another meal. read more

While I had a hard time finding this place, the reviews encouraged me to seek it out and give them a try. We arrived before 9:00 to find the place almost empty. We seated ourselves and were promptly greeted and handed their expansive breakfast menu. The place was clean, but nothing special. I had the posse omelet with coffee. The four egg omelette arrived quickly with 1 piece of whole wheat toast and home fries. While large, the omelet was very bland. I think they used canned mushrooms which added no flavor to speak of. The fillings were watery. For less than the $10 price of the "posse" I have had much better tasting large omelets and two pieces of toast. The home fries were the best part of the meal. The first cup of coffee was good, but nothing special, however the refill tasted "burnt" like it had been left on the hot plate too long. My wife had ordered eggs scrambled but they were very pale and bland too. Her raisin toast was burnt and the server should have seen that and replaced it even if the cook did not. The sausage was a little too spicy for her taste, so she shared it with me. I enjoyed it. Service was prompt and friendly, although I got the feeling this would improve massively if you became a regular. They have racks of personal coffee cups the regulars bring in and leave. Overall, not a bad place, but nothing special. For the price I would expect more focus on taste and quality ingredients. The portions are large but the quality was below my expectations. read more

Me and my family use to eat at Cookies on a very regular basis...to the point of the wait staff knowing what each of us wanted. However, we had to stop going because the food just isn't the same anymore. The last three times we visited, the food and coffee were not only cold it was close to being Inedible. We use to never leave food on our plates but now we can't even stomach it! It's really sad because the staff and the owner was very friendly and attentive (in the beginning). read more

Easy to miss, but totally worth the find. Tucked back in a small plaza is a gem of a breakfast joint. Small, cozy, friendly service, and a lot of John Wayne! Most importantly is that the food is really good. Awesome breakfast sandwiches. Home fries are outstanding with spot on seasoning. Pancakes are solid and the portion is huge. You won't leave here hungry. Unless your an upper crust snob who fancies yourself above a blue collar breakfast joint, there's nothing not to love about this place. I've been going to Cookies for years now and have always found the food and the service to be consistently very good. They recently have had an ownership change but the menu and waitstaff have remained mostly unchanged however the portions seem to be much more consistent.
