Its been a while. We were around the area and decided to oh well why not moment. Carlos happened to be our server last night. Excellent. You get Carlos, you know you are in a food hand. Gumbo, hot and delicious Garden salad with ranch dressing. Sweet childhood memory Chicken pasta.. with garlic bread. This is the best!. New York steak. Asked for medium rare.. it came out medium. Still good. We ate it all. Thanks for good dinner.

Stopped by for dinner, ended up getting breakfast. Overall a good experience, went in around 630pm and it wasn't terribly busy like it always is. Host and server were very nice and helpful. The had set coloring maps for the kids. The food was on point. What more could we ask for. A good experience was had, and I liked the fun and relaxed atmosphere.

I have not been to Norms in like 10 years and I was pleasantly surprised. The buffalo chicken skillet was delicious. A very generous portion and a lot of flavor. The pancakes on the side were insanely good. Their pancakes have the perfect amount crispy on the outside to soft on the inside. You don't even need syrup, just the pancake with the butter alone is life altering. They have a bunch of fun stuff on the menu especially for their seasonal stuff. I'm very impressed. I think they're way ahead of Dennys and changed my perception of Norms from 10 years ago. I will say my friend got a meal with burnt ends, ribs, and wings and he did not like it at all and said the meats all tasted cheap. But hey im grading this as a breakfast place cause who orders that at Norms. Come here for the hashbrowns, eggs and pancakes. I have been back once and I'll be back again.

Norms is a late night diner staple. Open 24/7, it's always busy but they always have room for everyone who walks through their doors. Mornings and holidays are when it's most packed. The employees hustle and bustle to get the food out in a timely manner. You never have to worry about waiting for the check as it's always dropped off at your table for you to pay at the front counter whenever you're ready. The menu is your standard diner fare, with breakfast being the most filling. They have lots of booths and tables for every configuration if you're coming with a group. The interior is as clean as could be, and the restrooms require codes to access. Overall Norms is pretty aces when it comes to diners. It's a good place to unwind and catch up, have a family meal, grab a quick bite with friends, share a milkshake with your sweetie, or have a nice cup of Joe (their Colombian coffee is strong!). Norms is not high class, but it's dependably decent any day and any time.

Friday night at Norms and it was a win. Waited about 10 minutes, got seated, and the hostess and server welcomed us with big smiles. Service was quick, the breakfast sandwich was loaded with meat on a soft bun, the tots were crispy, and the pancakes were fluffy and huge. The coffee came out piping hot too. My only gripe is charging $2 extra for veggies on the sandwich--that should've been included. Other than that, I'd definitely be back!

2026/02/07 update: Today was a good day to come here for lunch, I was expecting the wait to be long but when I walked in, I was pleasantly surprised to see no wait, I got seated immediately. My friend treated me to lunch here for my birthday. Their menu changed from 2 months ago. I was kinda looking forward to a T-bone steak trio but they changed it to a NY Steak Trio. It was good and filling, but I still prefer the T-bone steak trio. The service was friendly and professional and attentive. They checked in with us a couple of times to see if we need anything.

Norms will forever feel like home to me. I've been coming to this location for as long as I can remember. I especially love the feel & look inside during the holiday season. It could get busy during lunch or dinner hours but usually won't wait over 30 minutes. My parents eat there weekly. Recently I joined them on one of their lunch dates. Got a big & delicious breakfast. Food was good, service was good. Food came out pretty quick also.

Malou T.

Can't say enough good things about this place. The food is always delicious. Portions are huge. I can come here anytime and enjoy trying out all their delicious foods. Service was great. We love it. It was so fast so very ideal if you were hungry. Lastly I noticed the updated retro decor of the entire interior space of the restaurant. I love the feeling and nostalgia it is trying to impart to its customers. We will definitely come here more often.

I don't know why, but norms always hits when it's late at night. Our server Carlos is the best. He's so funny and very patient and you can tell he loves his job...

4.5 Stars It was our first time at this location! I've been to the one in West Hollywood a couple of times, and while that one has a roomier entrance and easier parking layout, this spot still had plenty of charm. The parking area here felt a bit more congested, especially getting in, but once inside the experience made up for it. We went on a Friday night, so there was a bit of a wait. I was told 15-20 minutes but was pleasantly surprised--it ended up being only about 8 minutes. The host was friendly and welcoming. Our family of three was seated in a cozy booth, and I really liked how the layout creates smaller, more intimate sections--it gives it that classic, old-school diner feel. Our server, Ms Kristina was amazing (just like so many other reviews have said). She was warm, engaging, and attentive without being overbearing. Great customer service--she checked in on us several times throughout the meal. The food came out hot and fresh. The onion rings were a bit crispier than I prefer, but everything else was on point. The fried fish was basic but perfectly cooked--light, golden, and crispy. I added some freshly chopped onions and pickles to give it a little extra flavor, and it was perfect. It's definitely a nostalgic, old-school spot with a relaxed, friendly vibe. The floors had a few crumbs when we first walked in, but I noticed a staff member sweeping not long after we were seated, which was appreciated. Overall, great food, great service, and that classic diner comfort I love. We'll definitely be back!

This place is always such a great spot for us Cynthia again gives such great service always prompt and on top of everything thank you Cynthia always recommend norms

Fantastic food, friendly service and a great diner vibe. Clean and large seating area and plenty of parking. All the food taste incredibly fresh, coffee flows endlessly and the kindness of the staff and servers are phenomenal!! Highly recommended!!

Kristina went above and beyond with the attentiveness, the care and the attention to detail when serving me and my friends. Not only did she give great advice on the menu, but took us by surprise with the flare and fun of the food presentation. Smiley faces on all the pancakes and a surprise sundae to top it all off! I decided to splurge but still norms 'is not a steak house so I should have known-thus 2 rather than 1 star. ! remember my dad enjoying bone-in (perhaps not from norms but that's not the point.) I got the porterhouse. The first bite was pure gristle. The next bite was chewy, not flavorful and it is in the fridge cuz I couldn't eat it. I could have made eggs at home. The potatoes were ok. The biscuit n gravy wasn't what I think of when I think of b&g. The oj was good! read more

Ick. Look, I eat everywhere and love midcentury style coffee shops. The Norm's on La Cienega is just nifty by me. Just had lunch at Pann's last week ( recommended ). But this one's scary. The nabe's dicey for one thing, and that's coming from someone who goes everywhere in LA and loves it. The place is completely packed and you might have to wait a bit to get a table, but that's okay. The food's just awful. That's coming from someone who eats almost everything anywhere ( those that follow me on Yelp know that to be true ). Oh, something may happen and I'll be back, but I hope not. read more

I always wonder how good this Norms is because it's like a diner, old time restaurant style with cheap food, cheap steak. Now that we both retired so it's time to explore and experience new places, tours, journeys, cruises and restaurants, We walked in at 5:30 pm for the 20% off senior discount from 7-9am and 2-6pm. My husband loves to eat steak, he's a meat lover type. He ordered Porterhouse steak (21.99), mine was New York steak (18.99). They come with soup, salad, potato and veggies. It was delightful dinner and pleasantly surprised for gumbo soup, soft, tender and juicy medium rare steak for his and mine. Selena, our server helped make our adventure complete with her attentive, diligent work, refilled cold brew coffee to go home with, we appreciated. I would recommend this place to anyone in no time. Don't judge the book by its cover. For a long standing reputation over 70 years, it proves through time, thick and thin that they still maintain healthy images and recognitions. read more

Last Friday I went to the Van Nuys Norms with my son. It was a Lenten Fish and Chips special until 11pm. We got there at 7:10 pm. Put my name on the list for a wait of "just a few minutes." At 8pm someone finally got around to us. We were the last people called. They seemed to have kept "accidentally" skipping over us. They finally found us seating. The waitress was slammed. It took just under 10 minutes to get to us. Not her fault. We ordered the fish and chips. "We JUST sold out." She suggested the not on any special salmon at twice the price. We said sorry, no and left. Not before explaining what happened to the manager when he tried to make us pay. He thought it was pretty funny. I assume that's why he laughed. I guess I didn't look nice enough for his restaurant. If he didn't like my thick waist or lack of makeup he should have refused us service when we got there instead of making us spend an hour waiting for his bait and switch. read more

I can't remember the last time I went to Norms but we were here to celebrate their Anniversary a few weeks ago. We had an amazing experience. The wait was not as horrible as I thought it would be. They were very organized and had so many people working that day. From several people to greet you at the door to hostess to cooks to everything. We were seated within 5 mins or so. The food came out so quick. The scramble eggs were so good that my niece ate most of it. I loved their buttery, airy and soft pancakes drizzled with syrup. I seriously can't stop thinking about their pancakes. The best part was I only paid $1.40 for 2 plates with 2 eggs, 2 bacons and 3 pancakes. Happy 70th Anniversay Norms! read more

The service is great, and the waitress is wonderful! I ordered a hamburger, they gave me a double hamburger with 2 Costco style frozen patties,, and it was terrible. They used to have thick wonderful burgers at norms. The waitress told me that they changed because it was too expensive to sell it the other way ! What a cop out ! Norms keeps going downhill and downhill, those new owners - greedy & cheap ! Sorry, I normally don't cuss, but it really pissed me off that that happened ! I will still return to norms to eat, but I will definitely not order the hamburger. I order the New York steak after the hamburger thing, and it was actually 80% alright . Bludso's BBQ

3.8(149 reviews)

My family and I had been looking for a good BBQ restaurant in the Valley and came across Bludso's…read morein Van Nuys -Take out only. We were genuinely excited to find a BBQ spot we enjoyed, and for a while, we were happy customers. Unfortunately, over time, our experience became increasingly disappointing, particularly when it came to the size and consistency of the ribs. The first couple of times we ordered, the ribs looked like a standard, reasonable portion. But on our later visits, we noticed that the ribs appeared noticeably smaller. It wasn't just a one-time observation; after seeing the difference several times, we decided to call and ask about it. We weren't looking for anything unreasonable, we simply wanted an explanation and some consistency in what we were paying for. We were told, "Sorry, we'll have our manager get back to you." We appreciated that someone would supposedly follow up, so we gave them the benefit of the doubt. It has now been a couple of months, and we have never received a call, email, or any kind of follow-up. That part is honestly just as disappointing as the portion issue. Bludso's prices are high, and when you're paying premium prices for BBQ, you expect the quality and portions to be consistent. We understand that food costs, labor, and operating a restaurant are expensive, we're not expecting bargain prices. But when a restaurant charges what Bludso's charges, customers have every right to expect that the portions will be consistent and that legitimate concerns will be taken seriously. In a time when the cost of everything continues to rise and people have to think carefully about where they spend their money, spending more at a restaurant should come with the expectation of getting a quality experience. If we're willing to pay higher prices, we expect the food and customer service to reflect that. What really sealed the deal for us was that we actually tried to address the issue directly. We didn't immediately leave a negative review or complain online. We called the restaurant, explained our concern, and gave them an opportunity to respond. Unfortunately, the fact that nobody ever bothered to follow up after promising that a manager would contact us left us feeling like our business and feedback simply weren't important. We enjoyed Bludso's when we first discovered it, which makes this even more disappointing. But there are plenty of BBQ options out there, and at these prices, we don't feel there's a reason to continue spending our money somewhere that doesn't provide consistency or follow through with its customers. We tried. We gave them multiple chances. We reached out and gave them an opportunity to make it right. Unfortunately, we've moved on. No more Bludso's for us.

One time I was sad because they made me wait long as a solo walk-in when I let a couple go ahead of me and I walked out. So keep an eye out, it depends on who's working the front. The reason I still give them 5 stars is because they have since made up for that. It really is a beautiful place, and given that they're a relatively new establishment or a busser could have stepped in if they're busy, so just give them feedback if they need to work on things like that. I'm not at all a coffee snob, but this was the worst cappuccino I've ever had and my friend felt the same way about her coffee. Really bland and weak. The menu was confusing-at the top of the eggs and omelette section the menu read that sides such as potatoes or fruit, toast, etc. were included. One of the options listed in that section was for the garden skillet but when we tried to specify which sides we wanted, we were told those were not included with this item.... it was really confusing and did not make any sense so we wound up changing our orders completely so that we could have the sides. Cost was expensive- $51 for breakfast for 2 people, especially given the fact that we had to stand in line to order. When my friend asked for a refill on her coffee, she was told she had to go get it herself. Same for the water. When our food was delivered, the server did not ask us if we needed anything else, so this is pretty pricey for the kind of setup and lack of service. Unfortunately, we also felt that our meals were bland. Although the ambience there is pleasant, the lackluster food and coffee made such a poor impression on both of us that we probably won't return.

For some reason, anytime I walk into a diner, they always come ready with an understaffed excuse. "Our head cook is not here" or "3 waiters didn't show up". It's getting old guys. Originally we came here for coffee, and some deserts. We walk in, not that many people. Half the place is closed off. Whatever, we wait to be seated. Can't say we waited LONG, but still longer than we should have. We got seated at a table that wasn't even clean yet. We got the "not enough waiters excuse" whatever, we were ok with it. The lady seemed nice, which is probably why they got 3 stars and not 2. So we order the food, some club sandwich and French toast, coffee for my buddy and hot chocolate for me. The hot chocolate and club sandwich where pretty good. The fries where soggy (to a point where I just ate one and then spit it into my napkin) and the French toast was stale... The food took a long time to come, by long I mean I saw it on the counter sitting for 3 minutes before it was brought over. Which probably explains the stale fries. Over all, gave them 3 stars, looks like norms is in the neighborhood and it's open late, so it'll stay at 3 stars until we visit again, and we will visit again. hopefully then they won't be "understaffed" read more

I went to get breakfast for first time to this place with my family to see the if they have different menu or different taste I am tired to been in dennys IHOP look like they have bad reviews but I am taking the time to write my experience in this place with my family first I wait to much to get table n them to get the food so I ordered new York steak but they have to 2 types off steak so I ordered the big one n went I got the small one so I ate that one because I didn't want to wait for the right order I know everyone make mistake so for this time I will say the food was ok but the potatoe look was not cook n off if was not like I was expecting but I will give them 3 stars because the pancakes was different taste than others places. I want to say that my experience at the restaurant was truly spectacular. My family and I are from San Francisco, and I can't believe how welcoming and helpful the staff can be toward guests. Everyone is very helpful and shows us how well they work together--for example, as soon as you finish your soup and salad, someone clears the plates to bring out the main courses, keeping everything clean and organized. It's amazing how efficient they are. As for the food, I can't say enough--everything was absolutely amazing. I couldn't resist the desserts, and I have to say my favorite is the strawberry cheesecake. I also want to thank my server, Danitza, who was always very kind and attentive to our table. I understand that they have a lot of tables to manage, so I'd like to ask everyone to be patient with the staff as well. I can't even begin to describe how wonderful Danitza was to us, and overall, everyone who works there was very friendly. read more

Well let me start of by saying that i have been to this place more than a few times and the only thing i love about this place is their Gumbo soup and the fact that they have Pepsi. The cooks can never get anything right, no matter what i order, if i order an omelet or of i order a steak, and you think it's not that hard right. All the servers with the exception of two Nancy and Teresa are horrible if those two girls are not there i would rather not eat there. My first complaint is that when i order FRESH pancakes, they always pop them in the microwave... why? stop it... if i wanted microwaved pancakes i would go to Albertsons buy me a pack of frozen pancakes and just eat at home. The servers there never look like they are happy to be working there, I think they need better people skills. *If you want great service ask for Nancy or Teresa these girls always greet you with a warm smile and they give excellent service read more

Norma's Restaurant in Van Nuys is hands down one of the best spots for classic comfort food done right. From the moment you walk in, you're welcomed with friendly, attentive service that makes you feel like a regular, even on your first visit. The food is consistently excellent and clearly made with care. Portions are generous, everything comes out hot and fresh, and the flavors are exactly what you hope for when you're craving a satisfying meal. Breakfast is a standout--perfectly cooked eggs, fluffy pancakes, crispy hash browns--but lunch and dinner are just as solid, with hearty dishes that never disappoint. What really sets Norma's apart is the consistency. No matter how busy it gets, the quality and service don't slip. It's the kind of place you can count on every time. If you're in Van Nuys and looking for a reliable, delicious, no-frills restaurant that gets it right, Norma's is the best. Highly recommended. read more

This place is great at all times of the day, but I'm especially a fan of the fact that it is open 24 hours a day. I used to go there all the time when I was in college and have a great dinner at 3am after studying for so many hours. It's a classic diner that kind of reminds you of Dennys, except that the food is better than mediocre and really tasty. They have so many different types of food selections so you can never say they don't have something you would like to eat. The ambiance is casual and very family friendly. On the weekends they are always busy and you may have to wait a bit for a table but once you get seated, it's a very comfortable place to eat and relax. Although I'm not in college anymore I still come here to enjoy the food with my family and daughter and probably always will. I recommend this place to anyone wanting a kick back atmosphere with good food and great prices. read more

I just want to start of by saying that I have been coming to this restaurant for a couple of years now and for the first time ever there was a server who got my order right. Her name was Natalie. My mother is disabled and usually people ignore her there but Natalie made sure everything was right and that we were comfortable. My steak was really dry but she had it remade and made sure she smiled the whole time. I did have a complain about how many people were actually working and doing stuff. Most of them seemed to be lallygagging and just talking. Natalie and a couple of other serves were busy and moving but still. I also noticed that some of the waiters were shouting very loud. Overall I'm giving it a five star just because of Natalie. Hire more people like her and maybe this dump of a place will be better. I also want to thank Carlos for always checking to see if we were okay. read more

I'll admit the place is very popular, gives lots of food at very reasonable prices, and their breakfasts can't be beat. BUT -- We went for dinner. It was extremely noisy and difficult to have a conversation. The caesar salad was chopped lettuce with a large glop of dressing piled on top. Ugh. The T-bone steak was ordered rare and served medium and sent back. Then served rare but was very chewy. Supposedly one of their specialties. Sliced tomatoes ordered, corn delivered. The good news? It's steps away from my house. The bad news? It's steps away from my house. The food is what I imagine food is like in the penitentiary or jail. I've gotten various items at different times of day. It's just always either bad or barely tolerable. Speaking of crime, this is what you can expect to deal with in the parking lot as you go to and from your car; prostitutes servicing truckers/patrons, underage partiers drinking and smoking pot then throwing their empties over the fence into neighbors yards, drug dealing, homeless people. I was pleasantly surprised of how good it was. Basically it's a smaller version of Soup Plantation but I think much better than Red Lobster and other chains. The shrimp at Sizzled is actually better than Red Lobster, they just have the cheddar biscuits. This location works by you place your order at the counter and then opt to add salad bar or not. The salad bar is only $12 so it's a really fair deal and it comes with all sorts of options as well as tacos and a dessert station. For my meal I ordered the New York steak and thought it was pretty good. It's not like a premium steakhouse, but it does taste like a really decent steak that you would purchase at the grocery store and cook yourself. It was not too fatty and I really enjoyed it. It is a bit expensive compared to the average lunch and is a lot of food so I would not suggest it for an everyday meal, but I definitely will give Sizzler another chance again in the future and would suggest to others looking for a good mini buffet option. The service was also very polite and they were very attentive with a drink refills. This location is quite large and has many different sized tables so it can host many different sized groups. There is also a large free parking lot attached so finding a parking space is very easy.

Then when I did swap it out, the person working told me she double checked to make sure everything was right this time around. Unfortunately, and despite the "double checking" to make sure my order was correct, the chicken and waffles that I ordered was missing the actual chicken. I called to inform them of this and was told a manager would call back over the weekend to figure out a way to correct this problem. After four days of not hearing from this manager, I called back to figure out what could be done. The manager was unaware of what I was talking about and after being unsatisfied with the offer to correct it (after so many issues in the first order/experience with this place, I really had no interest in returning) and wanting a refund, I was told that only a very specific manager could do that and that they were on vacation. He assured me that the manager would call me back when they returned on Monday (this call happened on a Thursday) After not hearing from them once more, I called back the following Thursday and was put on hold for an extended period, only for them to return and tell me so such manager existed. Don't come here. Its an IHOP, there are plenty of them and plenty of places that serve breakfast. Avoid this location like the plague

Three weeks ago, our 3rd graders were tasked with hosting a family brunch after mass at our school. One of my friends with a kid at another school told me that this place donated for her kid's school, and to go in on a Thursday morning to speak to the manager, but to have a Spanish speaker go in. Great. I posted in the class chat and everyone was excited to potentially receive a donation from El Gallo Giro. One of the other moms agreed to go in. She goes and is told yes, it's fine, to bring back a form with the school's information and tax ID. We get a letter from the principal and they drop it back off and we're told to call a week prior and we'll receive one dozen conchas. At this point, everyone's side eying each other bc it's the smallest donation of any place asked and the most effort so far, but okay. She calls a week prior and they say the manager is no longer there and they have to talk to the new manager and call her back. They haven't called her back a couple days later so I call. They tell me they've already given us a donation so they can't give us another one but they have NOT given us a donation, so the woman on the phone says she's going to find out and leaves me on hold and just never comes back. After 14 minutes, I hang up and a Spanish speaking friend calls and has no better luck but she's told maybe the new manager will be there after four or maybe the next day. Why would they have to re-approve a promised donation??? The manager wasn't fired - they moved to a new location. This is strange, but we're still trying to jump through their hoops bc we keep our commitments, right? I'm not able to call that afternoon but I call the next day and I'm told I should have called the next day bc he's not in again. At this point it's Friday and the mass and brunch are Sunday morning. I'm told maybe the manager would be in on Saturday but maybe Sunday morning, which is when the donation is needed. Another mom was going to do the pickup - and another was making cute printed labels for the pastries, so we couldn't wait until Sunday to find out. We ended up giving up and another place, El Mariachi, came through with three different kids of pastries for the brunch, with like 2 boxes of each. A super generous donation. So, a number of school parents are aware of the way the new manager and employee handled this, which is why I figured the owner would want to know, also. One star for horrendous communication, strange business practices, and most importantly, an epic waste of five (!!!) moms' time.

Walked in and was greeted by one of their managers Jose V. He took my order and Steven brought out my order on timely manner. I ordered a large, thin crust ALL vegetarian pizza which came with: Green Pepper, Tomatoes, Mushrooms, Black Olives, & Yellow Onion. I also got 4 pieces of their delicious fried chicken (all dark meat). Chicken was a bit greasy, but tasted good. Had to damp some of the oil before devouring all pieces! They also have mojo potatoes which I am really NOT a fan of. I also got a cup of vanilla ice cream, which was so cute and paid only a $1.00. Everything tasted delicious, fresh, lots of vegetables on the pizza and was sizzling HOT!! Place is spacious, and has 3 different dining rooms nicely partitioned for dining, parties, and holds up to 225 people. They do all types of parties from birthdays, promotions, retirements, holidays and everything else in between. They also have a buffet between the hours of 11am to 2pm. However, they do have a small section for salad bar, offer beer, all types of soda, lemonade & ice tea. Their Fun Zone is filled with so many arcade games & prizes where an adult can be a kid again. Restaurant was somewhat clean, including the bathroom. Tv's all around you, an arcade, celebrity photos on the walls from back in the days. Great, upbeat, friendly, helpful staff/employees! 80's music playing overhead. Team work makes a dream work! They all put in their part. Big parking lot shared with a Convalescent home. Thank you Shakes's, Jose V, and staff. Keep up the GOOD WORK!:-)
