Very mixed first order from Bludsos. I remember back when they were in Compton selling out of the parking lot weekly. The bbq world has changed, obviously with inflation the prices have gone up significantly. I live really close to this location and it took me too long to get some of their food! But here we are after the first experience. There were some highs and some lows. The sides were absolutely delicious- the mac and cheese was well made and the beans had lots of meat and not overly sweet but had a nice spicy kick to them. The miss for me was on the brisket, it was cold to begin with, the leaner pieces definitely needed the bbq sauce. While the fattier slice was a better experience. Very tender, nice smoke flavor. They were out of ribs on the day I ordered so I would definitely want to try them out again soon.

I had to try this place once I heard great word of mouth, so glad I tried it. First off, this location is only carry out but we knew that already. Second, the staff were so nice and friendly. Third, the bbq was great, the pulled pork and brisket were the best. We got a variety of bbq sauce and made the meats even more tasty. Omg, the mac & cheese, cornbread with the honey butter was to die for. I will definitely be back

I was so excited that a place I used to frequent in Compton had opened up another spot in my city! I am super happy to say that absolutely nothing has changed about this place except for the location and technology. First off, heads up, this place is cashless so you have to call in, order on line or pay at the kiosk on the inside wall, swipe, or insert your credit/debit card at the end, they accept Visa and Mastercard. Now that we have that out of the way, the kiosk is nice and has pictures, prices and sizes of all the food they have but make sure to pay attention when placing your order because certain foods are not available at certain times like sandwiches are only served between 11-4. I ordered fried okra, potato salad, chicken links and the dino rib. I also got a slice of red velvet cake for my daughter in law to try, its her favorite. The fried okra was fried to perfection, crispy on the outside with a light seasoning and the dipping sauce that came with it was fire, which is slang for delicious. The potato salad is like a mustard country potato salad with aromatics and it is not sweet - it reminded me of my mother's potato salad which made me smile. The chicken sausage link was also really good, but that dino rib! Wow! It was so tender and flavorable, the first bite was everything - it just melted in my mouth. You could cut this bug beef rib with a plastic knife! Now, it wasn't cheap, the dino rib by itself cost $39 but it is huge and so worth it. They also gave me all the condiments and a lot of barbecue sauce in case I wanted to get down and dirty with it lol, that's what he said. The business itself was clean and nice and the customer service was top notch. The only down side is the parking, which is no fault to the business but maybe this will encourage them to get a dine in restaurant in the future because I would certainly come and eat and bring the entire family with me. I will be back! P. S. There was a lot of fat on the dino rib so next time I will request a leaner cut.

Just stopping by to give Bludso their kudos for selling a great Thanksgiving package! I ordered the Smoked whole Turkey meal with the 3 sides and gravy, plus added a Key Lime pie. My family of 11 really enjoyed the taste of everything. The process for picking up was smooth too. I waited no more than 5 min for them to gather my preordered meal. Thank you Saticoy location team for making it a smooth process. I will be back next year. I also wanted to add that I've picked up a small to go order in the past and the food was good and the service from the staff was good.

Truly excellent BBQ. Had the pork ribs and mac & cheese. Very smoky and flavorful. The ribs aren't super tender and fall off the bone, which wasn't an issue. Just sharing for clarity. Instead, they had a small bite to them and reminded of Chinese ribs a bit. But would go back in a heartbeat.

Buffalo chicken fries were 10/10. Wings were 10/10. The Brisket sandwich was a NO! Wouldn't get that again. Wasn't appetizing. Needs to be drenched in BBQ sauce to be eaten, and even then I didn't care for it. But I would get the fries and chicken wings again for sure. Fast service, and thanks to the worker for allowing me to have all chicken breast on the buffalo fries vs dark meat. Appreciate that!

I have been to the Bludsos in LA on La Brea and this one is far superior. There is nowhere to sit. They do take out and catering only. Get it and eat it in your car. It's worth it. We ordered just about everything on the menu. The smoked wings were juicy and deep in flavor

Corn Bread, Spare Ribs, Brisket, BBQ Beans, Mac & Cheese, Key Lime Pie. Mmmmm.

Frankenstein's BBQ Adventure The Quest for BBQ Frankenstein had a craving for some delightful barbecue, and like many others, he turned to the convenience of delivery. Unfortunately, only Doctor Hogly Wogly's Tyler Texas BBQ was available through Grubhub, and the reviews on Yelp did not paint a favorable picture. Despite his reluctance to drive, Frankenstein knew that if he wanted the mouthwatering BBQ from Bludso's, he would have to brave the journey himself. The Journey to Bludso's It was a Friday during rush hour when Frankenstein set out for Bludso's, dreaming of the brisket that awaited him. The roads were crowded, with many others in the Valley making their way to various destinations. Frankenstein did not enjoy the traffic, but the thought of BBQ brisket kept him motivated. He envisioned Panorama City as a pleasant place, yet upon arrival, it did not meet his expectations. The BBQ Feast After what felt like an eternity, Frankenstein reached Bludso's and placed an order for a BBQ feast: brisket, ribs, BBQ beans, mac & cheese, and cornbread, totaling $85.00. The tantalizing aromas made the drive worthwhile. Parking Lot Perils Getting out of Bludso's parking lot, however, was a different story. Frankenstein found himself in a predicament, performing a series of 20-point Austin Powers maneuvers to escape. The thought of backing out onto Saticoy Street during rush hour was daunting, but with determination, Frankenstein managed to free himself from the parking lot. Sharing the Feast Finally, back at the house of Frankenstein, he shared the delectable BBQ with the Bride of Frankenstein. The meal was indeed very good, but Frankenstein noted the hefty price. Reflecting on the experience, he vowed never to undertake another rush hour drive to Bludso's, despite the quality of their BBQ. Ultimately, while the journey was fraught with challenges, the reward of sharing a delicious meal made it all worthwhile for Frankenstein. https://www.yelp.com/user_photos?select=n3f22iV1WmtzpDLZ2yrnJw&userid=ivL13L-4XSYepkfoFfB_8g

Ask the Community - Bludso's BBQ

At Bludso's BBQ in Van Nuys is the big ass beef rib worth $40? And how much meat do you end up with without the bone?

So this is indirect. A friend had been clear that the 40 dollar for one pound rib is not worth it. Others have told me that portions are pricier and skimpier than the norm. I was totally excited to try them since they were now in the SFV but… Read more

I've been hesitant because it is in a trickier area, but I had no issues pulling in or parking! They have a few spots in the front, but otherwise I'm sure there is parking around the neighborhood. You walk inside to order and it is not a fancy looking place, but the people cooking the meat definitely know what they're doing!! It felt like an authentic Texas bbq spot. I didn't want the frills, I just wanted good food and that's what I got. I sat at a little table outside which was perfectly pleasant! The road wasn't too loud or anything. But really, the sandwich was SO good. I doused it in the spicy bbq and added the pickles and coleslaw and I ate the WHOLE thing. I shouldn't have. But it was great!! I want to come back and try their other bbq meats and sides!! I loved the pulled pork sandwich and would recommend sharing it if you do order it. Yum!! The service was great, too!!

We hadn't visited since February, 2020. Before the pandemic might as well have been 10 years ago, if the world shut down 6 years ago. We were overdue for a followup visit. Judging by how the food went down, we were sore for it. We ordered the Big Tex: four meats and four sides - tri-tip, brisket, pulled pork and links; kale greens, bbq beans, mac and cheese and fries. We opted for the cornbread in the roll slot. It should be the top meats in your order, by premium scale and availability, but more often than they should be, the brisket/tri-tip selections are, 90%, obligatory orders. I think I have a love/hate relationship with the way LA treats the pepperoni pizza of bbq meats. Swinging Door broke us off proper though. Not too fatty. Great tenderism. And the accompanying sauce complemented the smoked all stars, rather than compensated for lack of flavor. Didn't stop me from loving their Whiskey bbq sauce though. The beans were a true bbq side, swimming in a mild sauce and containing lovely chunks of link. And the kale greens - sheesh - I think they might've switched to kale since our first visit. An effective exercise in alternative ruffage that holds seasoning and jucies for a similar bbq/soulfoud bite. We live further away now. Took the food to go, to prevent the intermittent rain from foiling more of our plans. It traveled well. And since I'm using our leftover bbq sauce on every other meal I cook, I'd say we successfully made do with our lunch substitute.

Unfortunately, it was another disappointment. To be fair, they were busy, and I understand that a full restaurant can put pressure on both the kitchen and the front-of-house staff. But being busy should never be an excuse for poor food quality, inconsistent service, or a lack of standards. We ordered the beef ribs, pork spareribs, and brisket. The portions were definitely generous, but the quality was simply not there. The brisket looked like it had been pre-sliced and left sitting in a pool of grease and juices. (as I asked the Server she did confirm this was true. ) It fell apart, yes, but not in the way great brisket should. It lacked the richness, balance, and true smoked flavor that good barbecue is known for. Instead of tasting freshly sliced and properly held, it felt tired and over-rested. The beef ribs were tough, and the pork spareribs were extremely dry almost like chewing on cardboard. That was probably the most disappointing part of the meal. For a place that has built its identity around barbecue, there was very little real smoke flavor in the meats. That alone says a lot. The barbecue sauce had decent flavor, although it was a bit runny for my taste. The barbecue beans, on the other hand, were actually delicious and one of the few highlights of the meal. Then there was the bread. We were told it was "half a loaf," but it was really just a very small piece, closer to the size of a bun. On top of that, the bottom was soggy, like it had been sitting too long on a steam table or in trapped moisture. The service was slow. The girls working were clearly busy and trying, but it did not feel like anyone was guiding them with real standards of service or hospitality. There is a difference between being overwhelmed and being untrained, and this felt more like a lack of leadership and structure. I also asked to speak with the chef. One server told me she would go get him and that he was there. Then another server said he was not there. That kind of inconsistency only added to the frustration and made the whole experience feel even less professional. I respect that this restaurant has been around since 1969, and longevity does mean something. But being around a long time does not automatically make a place great. In my opinion, they should not be pushing the idea that they are among the best barbecue spots in the country, because based on this experience, that is nowhere near reality. This is not even close to the quality standard of a true Texas barbecue spot. I was also disappointed by the overall condition and cleanliness of the property. I understand the idea of maintaining an old-school feel, but there is a line between rustic charm and an environment that simply does not feel sanitary or well-kept. To me, it felt like the latter. What makes this experience especially disappointing is that they clearly have the history, the name, and likely the resources to do much better. I do not mind paying for quality, but I do mind paying for quantity when the quality is missing. That is exactly what this felt like. I sincerely wish them continued success, but we will not be coming back.
