I've been wanting to try this place for the past year since moving to the area, but every time I tried, it was either closed or parking was difficult due to construction. I finally made it in, and I'm glad I did. The first impression was solid. The entrance and dining area were clean, and the staff were all wearing uniforms, gloves, hats, and hairnets -- a nice touch for anyone who pays attention to hygiene. The place is quite spacious. I especially liked the self-serve bread station with fresh bolillos and plenty of empty trays with tongs so you can grab what you want and bring it to the register. Fresh fruit drinks are also available right next to the counter. I asked the cashier what's their most popular torta, and she recommended the Torta Chubana. I waited about 15 minutes, which I thought was perfectly reasonable since it meant the food was made fresh. Unfortunately, the flavor didn't match my expectations. I was hoping for bold, exciting flavors, but it fell a little flat. It wasn't bad, but the meat tasted pretty flavorless. It could definitely use more salt, pepper, spice, and a bit more cream or sauce for balance. They've got the seasonings -- just use them! Overall, the spot has a great setup and good vibes. El Gallo Giro is always a dependable Mexican chain. This one is located off of Sherman Way & Van Nuys Blvd, so parking can be tricky sometimes but it can be done so don't worry about it. Our usual go-to's include tortas, bolillos, pan dulce, and aguas frescas. The employees are always friendly, willing to help, and keep the line moving. The bread is good but for some reason no one lines up in the designated section and everybody cuts. This has happened to me every other time I come here and the employees don't enforce or say anything to people who cut the line. The service here is great, and the prices are even better! This is a fast casual, where your food is made instantly as you order. Portions were very generous, and the place was very clean and well maintained with plenty of seating and easy parking. Never came to this Van Nuys location of their store yet. It was my first time, last Saturday on lunch time, only 2 people there eating there and a couple came in for some pastries prior to my arrival. This location is bigger, newer and looked nice. But, this one feels kinda "cold" and less authentic.. less homey vibe. Outside of this location, there was a construction work on the street. Maybe it affected the business.. not sure! I bought 4 chicken burrito bowls for me and my coworkers. Food tasted as great, but they really being skimpy on the chicken also less rice but a lot of lettuce. Therefore 3 stars. For the price I've paid I expected a bit more meat, a bit more rice. I've been a regular customer at the one on Vanowen & Sherman Way. That location is smaller, older BUT, now.. after I had been to this one, I could say I like that one much much better! That one feels more authentic Mexican, has homey & feel-good-lifelier vibes in it. For the same price, I got more bang for my bucks there. read more

I was enticed to try El Gallo Giro for the first time by their July 4th weekend special offering asada tacos for $1.99, asada burritos for $7.99, and asada tortas for $8.99 occurring July 4th - 6th. Mariana was pleasant when she informed me that the special was BOGO for $8.99 and not for a single torta. I was surprised by her answer and told her it was a 4th of July weekend asada special but she did not seem to know what sale I was referring to. I looked at the ad again and told her it was okay, I would order online. I did so and promptly picked up my order. The torta was well balanced. Just opened recently and it is bustling with tons of people inside and outside this joint. There is a fresh bakery to accompany the hot foods displayed in the front right when you walk in. Everything feels nice and clean and the vibe is friendly and vibrant full of smiles by the people working the front. This store lights up what used to be the dim corner parking lot of this plaza that used to be a Boston's Market. Can't wait to go back. read more
