Noodle Nest sits where Chef Hung used to be. The space is huge with ample seating here. Decor is modern and clean. Came here with my kids and ordered the beef roll, non-spicy beef noodles, and lamb. Everything is done through the ipad. Food came out promptly. The beef noodle soup was clear and clean while the noodles had a nice chew. The beef roll was delicious with good amount of filling but could have been hotter/crunchy. The lamb skewers were great! We did non-spicy since kids can't hang. Overall, food was not bad! They offer lunch specials here and the portion is big that it's perfect to share family style or with a friend.
This afternoon after finishing our shopping at farmers markets, we went to Irvine to try a restaurant that was advertised as the Din Tai Fung Dup by an Instagram influencer. When we walked in, we were impressed with the inside of the restaurant. The server provided a tablet to place our order. The influencer labeled Noodle Nest as a duplicate of Din Tai Fung. We order the cucumber salad, chicken wonton ton soup and chicken fried noodles. We also tried the chicken skewers on their menu. We liked the delicate cut of the cucumber. However, it makes it hard to share. It's like eating a whole cucumber. We prefer the individual cut by Din Tai Fung. The taste was a bit spicier. The chicken wonton soup was a bit oily. It had plenty of wontons (10). There's also seaweed in the soup. The skin of the wontons was a bit soft. The chicken fried noodles had green and red bell peppers, onions and baby bok choy. The chicken was shredded. The noodles needed to be cooked a minute longer. The chicken skewers were heavily seasoned. We preferred a lighter taste. Overall, the flavor and taste profile does not make Noodle Nest a dup of Din Tai Fung. Noodle Nest tastes more like Northern China profile. DJ's rating: 3.55/5.00 Would we come back? No.
So we came here for the huge bowl of noodle soup and were not disappointed! It was definitely huge, probably the biggest bowl I've ever seen available at a restaurant! It was made to order, and they seemed to be hand-pulling the noodles fresh. The bowl itself was enough for at least four people, maybe more. The noodles were chewy and the broth was savory. The way they have the menu set up, you simply order digitally from a tablet and then they bring the food out. You can order at your own pace, i.e. everything at once or one by one as you want them. The whole process was very efficient. I wish more restaurants would have this model as it made things far less dependent on a single server! People are being super picky about this place and we thought pretty much everything we ordered was tasty. The restaurant decor was new-ish and was quite well maintained. We definitely enjoyed the food and it's on the list to visit again.
The hand-pulled noodles were perfectly chewy, made fresh with authentic flavors you can really taste. Their signature Lanzhou-style beef noodles and juicy dumplings are especially popular for a reason. So delicious!! We ordered spicy lamb skewers, scallion pancakes, beef noodle soup--and every single dish was comforting, flavorful, and perfect for sharing. The portions are generous, making it such a great spot for family meals. My kids especially loved the noodles and couldn't stop eating (which says everything). It's always a win when you find a restaurant that's both authentic and kid-approved. If you're looking for a cozy spot with nice ambiance and friendly service. Also love handmade noodles and comforting Chinese flavors, this one is definitely worth trying . Free parking.
We stopped in the area for an early dinner and chose Noodle Nest. Located in a very busy and popular plaza, parking can be a challenge. We were seated quickly. You order yourself using a tablet and there was a short wait for the food to be served. We got Lanzhou noodles in thin and regular noodle size and a Big Plate Chicken. Portions were big. Staff was super attentive with water refills and helped pack the leftovers, separating the soup and noodles.
We were looking for a Chinese place for dinner in Irvine and saw this spot had pretty good reviews so decided to come here to try. We came for a late lunch/early dinner so we didn't have to wait for a table. They have lots of tables and it is a casual place to eat at. We had our dog with us but the employees were nice and still let us dine in. The mango green tea was also pretty good and it came with toppings inside and the cup is big too. Once seated, they gave us an ipad to place our orders which was super convenient. We went with the Lanzhou Beef Noodles (which you can choose the noodle size) and we got the thin and regular sized. We also got the Big Plate Chicken which was on the lunch special and came with a drink- we chose the Mango Jasmine Green Tea. Then we also ordered the chinese burger bun. As it wasn't their peak time, the food was served pretty fast. The Big Plate Chicken came with hand-pulled noodles and a good portion of chicken. However, it is a bit spicy which I could still eat as someone who doesn't eat spicy, but it did still make me sweat a bit. But I still enjoyed the flavor and the noodle texture. As for the Lanzhou noodles, the broth was flavorful and delicious. You can also tell that the noodles are hand pulled and both the thin and regular noodles were good. The bowl of noodles also came with half a boiled egg and some beef which were also delicious. I really liked the noodle texture here. The portion is also so worth for the price. I couldn't finish all the noodles and could even eat it the next day. Overall, this is a great spot for Lanzhou noodles and just noodles. I will be coming back next time I am in the area. The employees also provided great service by packing the leftovers for us and they added extra noodle broth when they packed our noodles. Such rare service these days! I recommend stopping by!
I wanted to try a new place for Chinese New Year. We love Diamond Jamboree plaza and hadn't tried Noodle Nest yet so we gave it a go. We walked in, and it was so clean inside. We were seated immediately and ordering was quick and easy. You ordered off a tablet. We got the cucumber, beef noodle soup, beef roll, garlic green beans, xiao long bao, and the chicken dumplings. Everything was so delicious and flavorful. There wasn't anything we were disappointed with. We can't wait to come back
Our friends recommended Noodle Nest to us, and it definitely didn't disppoint. At first, I was suspicious because authentic asian restaurants usually don't look nice, but this restaurant looked nice on the inside. Don't be decieved! Even though it is modern, the food is authentic! For 2 people, we got the Dun Huang Grilled Fish and Big Plate Chicken, and it was a LOT of food. Probably could have shared this with 3 people. We ended up eating all of the protein but none of the carbs LOL. Dun Huang Grilled Fish - SO GOOD. The fish tasted flash-fried and then dropped in this delicious sauce. The sauce wasn't too spicy; it was just perfect. The fish was cooked to absolute perfection and was so tender. This dish is a must get here! Big Plate Chicken - This dish reminds me of my mom's version of this dish which was so comforting. The sauce and chicken were a little on the salty side, but the flavors were all there! The noodles were a little disappointing though. It was a lot more al dente and hard than I would have liked them. Overall, I don't have many complaints about Noodle Nest. I would 100% come back and recommend it!
Came here as a party of 2 on Friday night around 6pm for dinner; We were seated right away as there were still plenty of empty tables. QR codes are placed at the tables to look at the menu and order. We honestly left pretty disappointed after our meal. ~the food~ - Eggplant salad: Pretty good, nothing too special; very garlicky and I think it could've used a bit more vinegar but I liked that it wasn't too oily. - Dun Huang Cold Noodle: It was okay, maybe it was the wide noodles that we chose, but the entire dish was just oily and lacked flavor. There wasn't enough spice imo and the portion size was kind of small? I did like the chew of the noodles tho ~overall~ Even though the restaurant was not packed (there were still some empty tables), they seemed to be understaffed. We ordered lamb skewers but never got them after waiting 45 minutes. We checked in with staff after about 30 minutes of waiting and we were already done with our other 2 dishes and they said it would be out in about 5 minutes. We waited about 15 minutes and saw that other tables that ordered after us got lamb skewers but never arrived at our table. At this point, we were already quite disappointed in the other dishes too so we decided to ask the staff to cancel our lamb skewers and asked for the check. It did seem like the staff were quite overwhelmed as there was a lot of running around happening, so definitely didn't want to blame them for the bad experience. Restaurant is clean and looks casual/nice, pricing is okay, food is okay, overall experience was quite disappointing tbh :(
You have to order on a tablet and your food is brought to the table as it's ready. The beef soup, the beef skewers, and the scallions pancake were delicious. The marinated cucumber was bland and tasted too much like ginger. The noodles also tasted like ginger to the point that it was overpowering. Service was friendly and the restaurant was clean. Our waters were constantly refilled.
Came during lunch hours since they have some lunch deals and I was craving sour fish soup. It's in the Diamond Jamboree plaza under Hai Di Lao, so parking is easy or hard depending on the hours you go. They were also formerly known as Din Huang before changing their name. Place is spacious and large, reminds me of a traditional Chinese seafood restaurant. You order online but pay in person. 10/10 Mapo Tofu with Rice Combo ($15.20): I've had mapo tofu at several places in OC, and I can confidently say this is the best restaurant. Authentic and seasoning was perfect. Not too spicy, but not lacking in flavor either. Also comes with a bit of bok choy! The lunch combo comes with a tea, so we chose the mango lemon green tea. Refreshing with coconut jelly on the bottom, but very sweet. 7/10 Pickled Fish with Rice Combo ($16.80): I was really craving sour fish soup. The caveat to eating this dish anywhere is always the random peppercorns you bite into when you're trying to get a good scoop of the soup. I didn't really care for the fish used in their soup, but my boyfriend liked it. Numbing and sour like how it should be, but I think they could have added more variety in their pickled veggies. Can feed 2 people.

I think they changed their name but this used to be Dun Huang and it was one of my go-tos in the Diamond Jamboree plaza. Their big plate chicken is my favorite here because it's a hugeee portion of tender chicken and wide noodles with veggies too. I've tried a lot of their menu items over the years and their noodle soups are a close second! I'll have to come back to try their dim sum! read more
I've noticed this place every time I'm eating in Diamond Jamboree but never stopped by until now. It was sooo goood I stopped taking photos of everything else we ordered because we were too busy eating! The prices are fair - our family style lunch was less than $20 per person. We will definitely be lunch regulars for those hand pulled chili oil noodles!! Service was solid & the food came out fast. We ordered 5 things and our favorites from greatest to least were: Chili Oil Noodles - so flavorful with wide hand pulled noodles Pork & Shrimp Fish Roe Wontons - juicyy & the sauce was so flavorful & slightly tart, we dipped the other dumplings into this sauce as well Lamb and Cumin Fried Rice - solid fried rice Signature Lanzhou Beef Noodles - didn't love this after the flavor bombs that came before it. I first discovered NoodleNest Irvine through an Instagram post by sibling duo @Brooke.and.Ben, and it looked so good I had to give it a try. So glad I did--we had such a great family dinner here! The fresh hand-pulled noodles were fantastic, the juicy soupy dumplings hit the spot, and the beef wrap (ate it all so fast---didn't get to take picture) was my favorite of the night. The restaurant is clean and spacious. The service was fast and friendly. Honestly, I love that we can save time and money by coming here instead of waiting at Din Tai Fung--without sacrificing taste. Another plus: it's right in the same plaza as HMart, surrounded by amazing Asian bakeries and drink spots, so it's super convenient. Definitely coming back soon! read more

Wow! What a gem of a restaurant!! We are vegetarian so we didn't have any of the meat dishes but all the food we tried was SO delicious. I think these were the best green beans we have ever had! We ordered the cucumber, veggie dumplings, fried rice, chili oil noodles and green beans! Everything was so fresh and service was prompt and very polite, we will be back! read more

Noodle is decent here. The soup is a bit plain, not as flavorful as I expect a braised beef noodle would be. Its not bad, just not what I expected. I ate here when the restaurant was Chef Hung and I prefer its flavor. Service: friendly and nice staff. Nothing outstanding. They provide all the basic needs. Ambiance: clean and modern. So I am not sure which Dun Huang came first of either the Rowland Heights one or Irvine but the Rowland Heights one is hands down the better one compared to the Irvine location. This location doesn't have the same up scale vibe that the Rowland Heights one has. It still looks modern side but it's just not as nice. The service here is not good here either. We had questions here about the menu and one of the servers didn't know if the Braised Chicken came with noodles or if we needed to add noodles. He didn't even bother asking the kitchen. You also order through the app so there isn't much interaction with the staff. They also do not refill your water often. The food itself is okay. It's either too salty and oily or bland. There is no in between. The soup noodles were a bit bland but the shrimp fried rice was so oily there was residual oil on the plate. The cauliflower also had a lot of residual oil. The red oil chicken didn't taste like chicken which was odd. The best tasting thing is the skewers. Parking here can be tricky. There's a lot of parking spots but there's a lot of businesses. Overall, it's not that great of a place. The only pro is that they are opened late so if you want legit Chinese food, you can stop by here. It's not a place I would recommend people. read more

Dear Dun Huang, Service is easy going we came soon as they opened and they use app and phone. Ordered a few items. Dim sum here is individually ordered so felt like so dim fell a little flat for experience. Noodle dish was yummy and so filling, rice with lamb is delicious and great fresh best to get a couple items and order as you finish. Visiting our daughter in LA- we were craving some beef noodle soup. First time eating the Original Lanzhou Beef Noodle soup - wow it was real good. The lamb skewers were very flavorful. We also enjoyed the pig ears, kelp salad and shredded potato salad. Service was good, very efficient. Modern feel and very clean. read more
When you see this place from the outside and inside, it looks clean and nice, but.... eat before you go to the restroom. In fact, no need to go wash your hands (: After seeing what the female restroom looked (and smelled) like, I almost gave up on our order, but I pushed through. Unfortunately, we won't be back. We walked around the mall to decide where and what we wanted to have for lunch and came back to Dun Huang for the photos on their menu. Positive: I had orange chicken and so did the others at my table. We all liked the flavor. Negative: I was with older people and scanning the QR code to order was complex for them. Since there is no other way to order, without me, they would have been lost. Also, you have to put the entire order for the table on one tab - there is no way to split it. Service was so so, although the one person working was super nice; I had to get up to ask for forks and soy sauce. read more

The customer service was fine, good. The food was bad. Ordered braised noodle beef soup, pork Xiao Long Bao, and shu Mai sticky rice w/mushroom. I was looking for the traditional shrimp and pork shu Mai (not on menu) but since I like sticky rice and shitake mushroom, mushrooms in general I thought I would give it a try. We intended to go to Coco Ichibanya curry next door but the wait was 45m with no seating guarenteed (!?) so we thought we'd give this place a try since it was right next store and didn't look busy, now I understand why. The noodle soup came out quick but luke warm. The amount of beef was minimal, flavor of soup itself was nothing special. The noodles were okay. The shu Mai was not good. Even when it came out warm, one bite and I could tell it was not fresh and the top of skin/wrapper was hard/stiff. I had one, returned it to the kitchen and requested it be taken off the bill, which it was with no arguments-thanks. The Xiao long bao tasted okay, when it was warm. Once it cooled down it also tasted bad, not fresh. I would have asked for a refund on the entire meal but we were hungry and didn't have much options left. So even though we were hungry, we could still taste the food was not good quality. Even the water didn't taste right. Not sure if it was due to water being served in plastic cups? Before I ordered I saw how limited the menu was. I wasn't going to stay but my friend was too hungry and tired. We gave it a try and we won't be going back. Service was okay. Quality of food was bad. The menu, while it has alot of items, it didn't sound good, the shu Mai sticky rice, mushroom dim sum is an example. I've had alot of good dim sum at many places and this dim sum was odd re the ingredient choices. 1 star due to quality of food, for my personal taste. this place is still called 'dun huang' in diamond jamboree so i'm not sure when/if they're changing their name to 'noodle nest.' in case someone else couldn't find this place on yelp! i've gone plenty of times before and as a vegetarian/vegan, i'm perfectly content with the chili oil noodles. however, i was so thrilled to see that they have vegetarian (vegan) sesame noodles now!! it was absolutely delicious. my only qualm was that when it was packed up (in a foldover takeout box and in a plastic bag), the oil from the box leaked into the bag. it was a little messy but still yummy. i hope this item stays on the menu because it was amazing also, the online ordering system is super easy to use and our food came out quickly! read more
My first time trying Dun Huang with a huge group of coworkers. We tried a variety of dishes. There were so many but among the dishes that stood out to me was the marinated cucumber appetizer, the chicken skewers, the braised beef noodles, shrimp fried rice, pork Xiao long bao, and big plate chicken with wide noodles. My roommates have now tried Dun Huang twice, and we love it. Prices are fair, the restaurant rarely has wait times, and food comes out so fast! It's quick and delicious, even on busy nights at Diamond Jamboree. Staff is nice as well, and location is great. No complaints! read more

It is really hard to find out a good noodle restaurant in SoCal for the foodies like me, this location will be your right choice if you like authentic Lamian - the origin of Japanese Ramen, which is the most popular food from the North West China. The unique hand-pulled noodle has special recipe which the Japanese didn't get, it offered very satisfy mouth feeling which let you want to eat a lot. The beef soup of the Lamian is the right taste which I enjoyed in China. I like Japanese ramen but this Liamian is a better selection especially you don't like the heavy soup of Ramen. read more

My wife saw an IG video on this place so she wanted to give it a try. The waitress here was super cool and working her butt off. As for the food, I'll be short. The food looked delicious. As for the taste, it was definitely not my style. The wife wasn't digging it either. We are not bashing this place, just wasn't the flavors we were looking for. I am glad we tried it though. I am basically authoring this yelp to serve as a reminder for me, where I personally would not return. read more

Four stars for an overall good experience, but if you are expecting this to be on par with Din Tai Fung, then I would lower the expectations a bit. When you sit down, you scan the QR code on the table which brings you to the menu in which you can order directly from your phone. Once the order is placed, the server will bring the food to your table. When paying, you will need to flag down a server so complete the payment as you will not be able to pay over the phone. We ordered the original Lanzhou beef noodles and braised beef noodles. For appetizers, we ordered marinated cucumbers and scallion pancakes. You have an option of the type of noodle you want, ranging from thick and thin, straight and curly. The noodle portions were quite large so I was happy with that. If you are hungry for noodles, this place will definitely give you enough noodles. I enjoyed the scallion pancakes. They were flaky with enough flavor. The marinated cucumbers were also a nice appetizer. read more
Saw this restaurant featured on IG as an "affordable Din Tai Fung dupe" so my expectations were pretty high. After trying out everything, it was honestly just ok. The Xiao long báos were not as flavorful or soupy. Not long after the came out, the felt dry. The chili wontons was also lacking flavor. The chicken skewers we got were drenched in cumin and had a very funny taste - I couldn't continue eating it. We also got a beef noodle soup special, which was alright but nothing special. No issues with the service or the ambience of the restaurant. I think the food does the job if you're craving some Chinese cuisine and can def be a more affordable option, but if you want DTF, go there instead! :) read more

We ordered the beef noodle soup for delivery and the portion size was pretty good. There was also a good amount of beef and it was very tender In terms of the noodles, they have a range of options for the thickness. We chose the extra thin and the regular thickness, i kind of wished they had an option in between the extra thin and the regular. The broth was decent but was on the lighter side. read more

One of the best beef roll I ever had! It is not greasy like the other beef rolls I had, but it still maintains the same flavor that I expect from beef rolls. It is healthy but without sacrificing flavor. When I went inside to pick up my order, the servers were very welcoming and the interior is decorated nicely. read more

First time for me in this place. We got the cucumber salad which is so good, I just wished it was cut in smaller pieces. We ordered dimsum, fish dish, tofu, beef with potatoes, and fried rice. They were very good and tasty, on the spicy side so pay attention to the picture on the menu. The servings are big and can be shared. There were 2 servers at the time we were there. The male server was good and the female server was also good, but she has unpleasant attitude when I asked question if the order comes with rice. She gave me a look that my question was stupid and looked annoyed. We are looking at menu on the phone and it is hard to read and they don't really come to help you when you are ordering. You order on your phone inside the restaurant. Anyway, we enjoyed our meals but I don't want to return to a place where I don't feel welcome. read more

This restaurant is located in the corner of the Diamond Jamboree strip mall. You order off the QR code on the table and the food comes out pretty quickly. We had ordered the sweet and sour pork ribs, veggie stir fried noodles, pork pita burger with and without peppers, and the original beef noodles. My favorite dish was the veggie stir fried noodles. The noodles are really good as they are hand pulled noodles and they have a great wok hei flavor. The sweet and sour pork ribs were tender and more sweet than they were sour. They had an artificial looking red color to them which was slightly unappetizing. The beef noodles also had hand pulled noodles and you could specify the thickness which was nice. The beef was on the tougher side and broth was a little too salty. The pork pita burgers were good, the meat was tender and the peppers gave them a nice crunch. If you don't like interacting with people, this is the place for you. You can order off your phone and pay from your phone without even needing to talk to any of the staff. The tables are already preset with silverware and napkins. I would go back for the stir fried noodles and the pork pita burger. read more
