I've gotten food from here a couple times. I've had all three rougamo (braised pork, black pepper beef, and cumin lamb) and enjoyed them all. I've had them delivered and they were still juicy and crispy, buns weren't soggy at all. I liked the mapo tofu I've also had, not much to comment on, standard but tasty! I also tried the shandang spicy chicken. It was incredibly tasty and fragrant, the whole room smelled like it the moment I opened the bowl (which was probably 3 times bigger than the mapo tofu container, very big!). My one issue, I'm used to more "whole" bone-in chicken like legs and thighs etc, but the chicken was butchered into bite-sized pieces with pretty much each piece having bone in it. I'm not used to searching through bite-sized chicken pieces for bone so it was a bit of a chore. I did it anyways because it tasted amazing! But I also would probably just order a much easier-to-eat rougamo next time I'm there. read more

They also have the option for beef and pork if lamb is not your thing. Also tried their wonton soup, which was actually really savory while comforting, as well as their cold and spicy plate of beef and tripe and decided to give their eggplant, potato, and some peppers a try and even the table next to us was curious about the dish bc it looked and tasted so good. A good post-workout meal was much needed and I decided to give this place a try after a quick Yelp search. I wanted to try their popcorn chicken and came out with that and the pork rougamo. The pork rougamo came in a nice little wrap and I could see why the moment I took a bite. The juices of the pork dripped in my mouth (and almost on my car seat). I really enjoyed the savory flavor. The bun had an appropriate level of crunch, the freshness emitting out as I took a bite. This is a must-try if you visit. The popcorn chicken was not as impressive. The meat proportion was small as it felt there was more breading than actual meat. The seasoning was inconsistent from piece to piece and the chicken was not as crunchy as I would have expected. Was searching for some unique eats in Irvine for a hang out with a friend, and more importantly, finding a place with parking, good thing we landed on Crispy Rougamo (which was on her to try list for a while). The plaza here is quite busy since there's so many eateries and businesses located there, so the driving inside the plaza can be a bit hectic, but both of us parked towards the back facing the main road, so no big deal. We came here around 11:30 AM and were seated immediately, but in about 20 minutes after being seated the entire restaurant filled up and there were parties waiting outside. The after church/I finally woke up on a Sunday morning crowd were finally there for lunch, so keep this in mind! Ordering is simple and done through a QR code. The workers bring the food to your table and all the chili oil, vinegar, and seasonings are available. Ambiance is very casual and chill. I love that they were playing Poke'mon on the TV. For our lunch, we got the: 1) Shredded Potatoes: -HUGE plate of shredded potatoes. Definitely filling, but went great as a carb with everything else that we got. I'm a big fan of this at other Chinese restaurants since it's a pretty cooling and refreshing dish. Definitely had more than enough to bring home as leftovers to fry up again. -There's some onion and julienne carrots in it too. The seasoning is vinegar based so it's slightly sour tang to it. 2) Crispy Lamb Bun: -Comes with onion and cumin inside. -YOU HAVE to get one of the buns here. It's what the restaurant is named after, aka the Chinese hamburger. -Super crispy and slightly oily baked flat bun exterior that goes great with the super moist and seasoned meat on the inside. I added some chili oil to taste, but it doesn't need it on its own. So much meat that if you're not careful eating it, it'll spill out. 3) Sauteed Conch Slices with Fresh Chili Peppers: -My friend has never had conch before, so this was a fun dish for the both of us. -Another generously portioned dish with lots and lots of conch slices in it. -Think of it as a more protein rich noodle with a slight chew to it. Not bad and it comes with peppers, ginger, chili, and other veggies mixed in. Not bad! I was in the area and curious how this place compared to another Chinese burger spot I tried. The restaurant is located in a plaza with several other Chinese food spots, and parking was fairly easy to find around 1:30 PM on a Saturday. When you walk in, the staff seats you and you order by scanning a QR code to view the menu, and then you pay at the register on the way out. There wasn't much interaction with the employee, but she did bring us a water container. The restaurant was moderately busy with several groups dining, and our food came out pretty quickly after ordering. I ordered the popcorn chicken and the beef and pork rougamo (Chinese burgers). Since the popcorn chicken doesn't come with sauce, I was worried it might be dry, but it ended up being flavorful and well-seasoned. It was nicely crunchy without being tough, and the chicken was juicy and tender with no chewy or fatty pieces, even in the larger bites. Toward the end of the meal, it did taste a bit salty. The rougamo was decent overall but heavier than I expected. The pork rougamo was tender but fatty, which made it feel rich and oily. The beef rougamo was more enjoyable and tender, with a flavor similar to a stir-fry with onions, though the taste started to feel repetitive after a while. The only miss was the Fish-Flavored Shredded Pork Bowl which was too sweet for my liking. I'm really glad we found this place, and it's highly recommended if you are slightly adventurous and trying out some ethnic Chinese flavors. Everything we ordered was excellent. We knew the crispy lamb buns (aka Chinese Burger) was going to be good, but not sure about the $20 fried pork which was #1 chef recommendations, it turned out to be delightful. The lamb soup came out first, it was tasty and refreshing, Liang pi was cool, you don't get it in many places. String beans were nicely done, a delicious necessity to balance out the meal. The first bite of crispy lamb buns was a delightful surprise: crunchy layered thin bread and lamb with slightly cumin, it was an amazing feast. Fried pork is an even more interesting surprise that I would not spoil. Ha ha. Try it to find out! Service was fine, we were seats and water was provided quickly. As a native of Xian, China, eating rougamo is something I grew up with and I know how hard it is to make it perfect. I was super excited when this restaurant opened a while back. After trying for the first time, I was super impressed by how great they made them here. The bread is INCREDIBLY crispy, which is what makes or breaks the rougamo in my opinion. Pork is the classic and go-to, always cooked well and tasty. I've tried the other various dishes on the menu as well which are all solid too. So happy they opened here locally in Irvine. I was recently in Xi'an and had a few rougamos there so I was interested in seeing how it is here. My friend had recommended this place to me a couple months back saying she really enjoyed the liang pi and rougamo. My boyfriend and I ordered a beef to share and while the flavor was great and I love how flakey and crispy the bread was. It was disappointing that the ratio of beef to onion was 1:1. I've had this type of Chinese "burger" before and it was not very good. So when I saw pictures for these burgers I was hesitant, but I'm glad I gave it a try. We ordered the pork one and the flavors and the pork itself was delicious. The burger buns were crispy like it's namesake and I was a little sad when I took my last bite of it. I also got the chicken steak with rice and it was good as well. My only gripe was that as I placed my order online, I never received a notification that my order was ready to be picked up. I stood around in the restaurant for more than 20 minutes but as they were busy it took me awhile to ask one of the available employees for an update on my order. The food here hits home and tastes like a Chinese grandma made it fresh just for you. The liangpi or cold noodles are quite literally some of the best I've ever had. They use extra wide noodles, and mixed with the garlic peanut sauce? 10 out of freaking 10. And they can take the same extra wide noodles and stir fry into like a chow mein--also delectable. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't lowkey turned off the first time I heard about spicy beef and "offal". But don't knock until you try it. It's got that numbing spice which is SO addicting, AND none of that usual gaminess. And the main event, Chinese hamburger. We've been here twice in a week and tried half their menu. For the crispy bun, get the lamb. It's juicy and tender and not gamey at all. The other 2 meats are just ok in comparison. The dipping noodles r pretty spicy. We also had a cold noodle dish with sesame sauce that was ok. There's a a twice cooked meat dish I think it was called, very good. Had various cold side dishes, all pretty good. The interior is simple. The service really is a hit or miss. The first time we came during dinner time and there was no service at all, we had to get utensils, water, plates, etc on our own and they asked us to leave as soon as we were done eating. The second time was during lunch and the brought us everything and kept checking in on us and were super nice. Parking in this plaza can be tough. read more

Roujiamo translated as Chinese burger? Hmm, that works. The Xi'an liangpi (Cold Noodles) was like a budget version of mung bean pasta from Northeastern Chinese cuisine. The sauce could have been thicker for a better flavor. The signature lamb soup tasted good, with a generous amount of lamb slices and a flavorful broth. The soup came with a small dish of mildly spicy sauce. You could add it if you found the broth lacking in flavor, or leave it out if you wanted to enjoy the broth's light, original taste. I didn't expect this Shaanxi restaurant's Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken would be quite good. I ordered food via delivery. Since I heard good comments about this restaurant and I'm from Xi'an, I was determined to give a try. Roujiamo: I ordered pork as the traditional meat in roujiamo, flavor wise it is very close to hometown taste, but it's a bit dry on the texture. Liangpi: chili oil is exactly the same fragrance, other than this I would say it is close to the authentic but not there yet. Liangpi itself needs some improvement. Fuqifeipian: sliced needs to go thinner, and more chili oil with sesame. I had to give Crispy Rougamo a try when I came to this strip mall. Truth be told, I didn't know it was here. I got a feeling it is tailored to serve food to go, while it does have a few tables to dine in. I was surprised to see the Wait-list kiosk not working, and no iPad for self-help ordering. I had to wait in line to place my order to-go. I waited about 10 minutes before it's my turn as there was only one person taking orders. I've only ever ordered takeout from here, mostly after my evening workouts. The people here seem pleasant and helpful enough though their online ordering system seems to take care of any need to troubleshoot. The restaurant seems modern and bright but I get the feeling that most of their business is take-out. You will occasionally see people eating there. Their menu is surprising extensive for a restaurant whose name references only one specific dish lol. I've tried the beef and pork rougamo before and both were delicious though I prefer the pork. While the pork is sliced meat, the beef seemed like a stir fry of sorts put into the bread pocket. I also always order their Liang Pi and their Thousand Layer Signature Cold Skin. The funny thing is while both delicious, they are literally the same thing (cold skin = liang pi) but I think one of them has one different sauce. Anyway, i stopped trying to figure out the difference and just order both. The only other thing I've gotten is the shredded potato, both the dish and appetizer. Those are pretty good, too. My family loves Rou jia mo so I was super excited to see that this new spot opened up!The plaza has easy parking. The store has ample seating as well. You order at your table via a QR code and pay at the cash register on your way out. The staff here is super friendly and it feels super homey. They serve breakfast in the morning that looks delicious but I got here too late to enjoy it, so I'll have to come earlier next time. I just got one pork rou jia mo for myself to try and I was pleasantly surprised. The flavor of the meat is really good but it did have a bit too much fatty meat for my liking.
