Do not judge a book by it's cover! Next to a liquor store and across from an outside garden stand, this place is well worth the visit. It seems the best places are hole-in-the-walls. Don't count on good decor but do count on some really good food. Since they're called Noodle King, I decided to try the noodles first. This review is based on a few subsequent visits as well. The seafood pan fried noodles are my favorite. Lots of plump shrimp, scallops, squid, fish cakes and veggies on a bed of crisp fried noodles. Love how the noodles stay crispy even with the sauce. The beef chow fun is always prepared the way I remembered from my childhood. They never go wrong. On another occasion, I brought a group of friends for an afternoon Sunday lunch. Going family style is the only way to eat at a Chinese restaurant. You get to try a variety of dishes and yes, their non-noodle dishes were just as good as their noodles. It's also a great place for take out. I love the fact that it's on the way home from work so if I ever need to pick up something for dinner, I can just call it in. The bad thing is that home is at least another 30 minutes so I have to smell all the good food while I drive. read more

This is our favorite Chinese food restaurant, the place itself is very small and it's always packed so we usually order take out. If you eat at the restaurant, the service is great and they're very friendly. The food is delicious and they have way more variety than other Chinese places. My family loves their pecking duck which is the main reason we eat here. Their walnut shrimp and spring rolls are also very tasty. Noodle King is close to my home and I have often driven passed it. The back of the restaurant faces New Hampshire Avenue and doesn't look very inviting so I never thought about stopping in. I finally decided to pay Noodle King a visit after having a taste for Chinese food and checking Yelp for good reviews. I love spicy food so I ordered Hunan Beef. I saw the chef specializes in Cantonese-style cuisine so also ordered Shrimp Egg Foo Yung. Also, they pack to-go orders nicely and charge for the bags. The Hunan Beef was topped with a lot of fresh, colorful chunks of bell peppers, broccoli and a sliver or two of carrot. There was about 2 ounces of a very tender flank steak and all were mixed in a gravy. It was marked as a spicy dish on the menu. The lady who took my order didn't ask how spicy I wanted it so I assumed the default was mildly spicy. It was bland. I mixed everything with the rice. I added some salt to some something to flavor the dish. I mixed the egg foo yung with the rice and some of the gravy that came with it. I added some of my own soy sauce to add flavor. It was tasty. I couldn't remember whether I had order shrimp or chicken but confirmed it by the two small pieces of shrimp I found in one patty of the egg foo yung. In summary, based on my order, Noodle King might appeal to a vegetarian who prefers Cantonese cuisine because there isn't much meat or seafood included in the meals yet the vegetables are very fresh. The chef doesn't use much salt so the food is heart-healthy. The Hunan beef was quite bland and not seasoned at all, hence my recommendation to stick to the Cantonese/Mandarin-style dishes on the menu. If you decide to give it a try and eat in the restaurant, it is clean, the staff is friendly and the food is fresh. Ignore the well-worn sign on the door attesting to the award winning food and decide for yourself. read more

Came here after a coworker mentioned this place. I'm not from Hong Kong so I wanted to try their dishes! Got the fried fish which was super yummy :) I would def get this again. It was crispy perfectly fried and then tossed with these yummy onions. Great flavor and great with white rice We also got the ja-jain noodles. Not my favorite but still enjoyed them. Would probably try something else next time! Seems like a great hole in the wall place (literally) but those are the best honestly. WOW!!! Flavor Town!!! I don't normally have the feeling that I've wasted an opportunity or my time, but what the heck have I been doing with my life that I've driven past this place for three long years without trying it?!?! I grew up on the east coast, so I've always had the experience of that good (absolutely not fancy) Chinese restaurant in the neighborhood. Matter of fact, I had one back in the 90's when I first moved here. Well I came back three years ago and have been on the hunt for a Chinese restaurant that was more than "meh" or just "okay". Then, the other day, I happen to go in to yet another restaurant. My hopes were not high, but then the food came out. The salt and pepper shrimp, calamari, scallops were all perfectly seasoned and fried. I even tried their salt and pepper tofu. That was a bit of lava in my mouth, but sooooo worth it. Matter of fact, everything I've tried there has either really good or really really good. Time to start planning my next trip there. read more

We were in the area and a few friends recommended this place so we figured we would give it a try. I can see why it is a local favorite. The line was out the door for pick up and ordering. We ordered via phone and still had to wait in the long line to pick up our food. The highlight was the salt and pepper tofu. It was so silky on the inside and perfectly fried with crispy toppings to give it a flavor boost. Reminds me of agedashi tofu. Generous portions and it was so good while hot we ate most of it in the car once we got it. It is wrapped in aluminum to preserve the heat which I appreciated. The French style beef was also very good and Malaysian style noodles were delicious a good amount of curry powder flavors. I would have love to try more things. If you like Canto food, this is it. Similar to East Pearl in Rockville offerings, if not better and definitely more competitive pricing since it is more of a take out place. read more

I can't give review for dine in since I always get take out from them. The restaurant looks dingy for sure but the food is excellent. I thought it's another cookie cutter Chinese restaurant, mind you I'm not Asian food expert at all I just got myself exposed more lately from my friends that grew up with authentic Asian foods, and thus this restaurant delivers. Their specialty is def the Hong Kong style noodles and some Cantonese food. I love their beef soups, walnut shrimps, fried noodles - any kinds, they have clam with black bean sauce and roasted ducks. Excellent food, fresh & piping hot with attentive service-we were a group of 6 ready for a late lunch after a few hours at the National Zoo (on our way home) We started with appetizers-dumplings and wings- fresh and piping hot. Dumplings had seasoned meat, we opted for steamed- they were a little doughy, but our teens were fine with them. Wings were crispy and fresh, and were slightly under seasoned so we enjoyed them with the table sauces. Lunch specials were excellent! Mongolian triple delight was hearty with chicken beef and shrimp in a lovely sweet sauce. General Tsou chicken was savory with mild heat and perfect broccoli. We had one teen who had not ever tried Chinese food, so we ordered Chicken Lo Mein and Shrimp Fried Rice- which were tasty with generous portions. The table had a rotating center which made it easy to share or try a taste of another dish. Egg rolls were just ok-go with the soup. Beef and broccoli lunch special was good and came out super fast, within 5 minutes after placing order. The triple delight lunch special looked good too. The quality was good just a tad too much cornstarch where some of the sauce had that congealed consistency like many Chinese take out dishes succumb to if you put in the fridge. My special for $7.85 including tax can with hot and sour soup which was ok, not bad but I'll try the egg roll next time. Only thing that wasn't good was the crunchier were very stale. The staff are friendly and it was a nice little place to eat with decent parking. Overall a good place I'll come to again and explore other dishes. read more

This complaint is solely about the food. I ordered seafood soup but was given 80% tofu and 20% pineapple. I have never heard of pineapple in seafood soup from a Chinese restaurant. I have ordered from this same restaurant before and never had tofu or pineapple in this previously ordered item. It's very off putting to think you're going to bite into a scallop and then get the super sweetness of pineapple (everything was overcooked and could be mistaken but that was the least of my problems). Like, I can be offended by the massive amount of tofu, but please do not also throw in so much or any pineapple when you charge me for seafood soup. read more

Ah, a Colesville staple for reason. This particular restaurant is located directly behind a Beer&Wine store at the intersection of New Hampshire and Hollywood Avenue. Check out the menu to see if they have your favorite dish, and chances are they do. I've never seen such a large selection at one restaurant. My only gripe is their inconsistent service. One day you could have the best meal ever and the next time is mediocre at best. I guess it depends on the staff and cooks they have for that particular day? Who knows, but give it a try anyway. This was a cute little hole in the wall that you would miss from the street. Not much that makes it stick out. We ordered takeout, so this review is about the food alone. We ordered food for a group of 5, and picked it up 20 minutes later. Everything from noodles to fried rice to shrimp and General Tso's chicken. All around it was good quality food, and well priced. You do pay more than a normal takeout only Chinese restaurant, but that comes with higher quality and tastier food. My one critique is that each dish seemed to be drowning in sauce, making them almost like a stew. Don't get me wrong, I like my sauce, but there's a difference between extra sauce and drowning. I would probably ask to go light on the sauce next time, but otherwise I didn't have any issues with the food. The chicken fried rice was really good, well seasoned and plenty of meat. Nice people, no frills, but I wouldn't recommend. I had been wanting to try this restaurant based on all of the comments. But, this little neighborhood joint didn't live up to the hype! The pad Thai was flavorless and the noodles stuck together and we're over cooked. The egg foo yong was pasty don't know how it could get this way. Didn't taste fresh at all. Also ordered some sort of chicken dish which was gristly. Overall I would say you would do best to spend your money elsewhere. read more

Hadn't been there in awhile but really enjoyed eating there this past Friday evening. It was a nice post COVID-19 crowd. I was seated promptly and ordered my favorite dishes. The sweet and sour chicken was on point with added fresh vegetables. The beef and broccoli had tender meat and crisp broccoli. I ordered a couple of spring rolls which were hot and tasty. This is my first time in there since I was told by a friend that they have some decent food. I think they have a very decent menu(big menu) they have lots of dishes/ lots of options and choices. the size of the restaurant is pretty small but it's great food and very clean, I took about 40 minutes from the time I ordered til I pick it up which I think is not that bad considering I ordered 2 lobsters veggies, green Chinese water-Crest and string-beans and some salt and pepper shrimps and some other stuff too. The people there are pretty attentive and fast food style rather than fine restaurant, its almost like Macdonald's service, but hey you cant complain if the food is good. I personally liked the food a lot, it's not too oily, lobster were meaty and delicious and the veggies are cooked to the exact point and the rice was just perfect. This restaurant is not on my top 10 restaurants but i definitely will give it another shot. read more
