My husband and I stopped here on road trip. It is a small, cozy spot with a few table setups, super friendly staff, and great service. They have a good variety of Louisiana-style dishes. We ordered a side of seasoned fries with our meals and we received those first. They were so delicious and flavorful that we almost finished the entire basket before our main dishes. My husband ordered the fried shrimp po'boy sandwich, which was packed crispy shrimp and great flavor. The sauce on it was incredible, so delicious that we had to ask for extra on the side. I opted for the mortadella sandwich, which was just okay. Looking back, I definitely should have had ordered the po'boy instead. To finish off, we grabbed the beignets for dessert, which were such a fun and tasty treat. Overall, great food, lovely service, and a fantastic road trip stop. The first thing that stood out on the menu, Poboy sandwiches! I opted for my go-to's and went with the fried fish sandwich and a side of fried oysters. We took a couple of minutes to study the menu it's not too large but has all the staples that you'd look for in a Nola restaurant. Oh my goodness when I saw that they served catfish Poboy I knew I had to try them out. We came in from San Luis Obispo area to visit Gilroy and go up to Mount Madonna for a hike. We walked in and they quickly waited on us, even though they were not technically open. We ordered the shrimp Poboy and the catfish Poboy. They were both piping hot very good crunchy crispy breading. We also got an order of huge Cajun garlic fries, which were very tasty. The po'boys were filling and delicious! I love New Orleans. Mainly because of the food. It's very rare that I find southern food that can come close to actual NOLA fare. I was so pleasantly surprised that in Gilroy of all places held this hidden gem. I was hungover from a wedding the night before and I was ready to drive home and this place popped up on Yelp. I decided to cure my hangover with some comfort food. Boyyyy was I comfortable. When I arrived the place was pretty empty. There was no inside. But it was early on a Sunday so no biggy. As soon as I took a look at the menu I ordered the catfish, a shrimp po boy, the jambalaya and a couple of drinks. Everything was fantastic. The flavors were there. The texture of the food was profound and the smells brought me back to the streets of NOLA. However service was a little off. After we ordered another couple came in and ordered after us. They brought out my catfish and for some reason they gave the other couple my sandwich. Then tried to give my jambalaya to another person. I also got the garlic fries and I do wish there was a bit more garlic but they were crispy, hot, and so good I couldn't stop. I also got the matcha crunch and it was so good. I liked the food here- I ordered a fried catfish sandwich which was a good portion for the price. The catfish was nicely fried, crispy and not greasy. The bread was very fluffy and fresh. Overall really good sandwich, but I wish they offered tartar sauce on the side because it started to feel kind of dry after a while. I also ordered an oatmilk ube latte for about $10 which felt overpriced for the drink size. I could have gotten a boba across the street for half the price. However, the drink did taste good. So... I'm having such a difficult time reviewing this place! I was so super excited to come here... I am from Mississippi before living in Memphis, TN and have lived in Louisiana several years. Nearly all of my family are from that area. Not only did I grow up on Cajun and Creole food ... my grandfather owned and operated a few successful catfish restaurants prior to his retirement. I had fried catfish and seafood (often freshly caught) constantly. I had my first fresh raw oyster not soon after I could walk. There is no place around here to have true southern food... of any kind, unless I cook it. When I heard that NOLA was opening so close to my house I was super thrilled. I think my first mistake was going in expecting Authenticity. If you are wanting 'true' New Orleans fare ... this is not the place for you. The 'muffuletta' they make are tasty well made sandwiches .... But it wasn't a traditional muffuletta. The 'beignets' are soft fluffy doughnut like squares sparsely covered in powdered sugar and served with some kind of sauce... but they are NOT beignets. Slightly tasty ... sure. Beignets? NO! The 'Gumbo' was a sausage (not andouille) chicken filled soup with watery reddish Cajun seasoning filled broth m. Gumbo has a thick silky broth texture that ranges from a darker peanut-butter color to deep dark chocolate color, according to the type of gumbo you are making (Creole or Cajun) and how dark each cook wants to take their a roux. What they give you here is some sort of soup ... that is NOT Gumbo! I'm really not sure what it was. It wasn't terrible; it just wasn't Gumbo. The Fried catfish were perfectly cooked and not at all oily or greasy ... BUT they were NOT cornmeal dusted southern fried catfish (not at all the fried catfish you would find in New Orleans or anywhere in the south really). And there was no tartar sauce ... which personally I find a travesty when serving catfish! The Salad I ordered was great. fresh ingredients and the shrimp I added were perfectoy cooked and seasoned. I also liked the Miso dressing. Everything I e tried here so far is good, fresh, mostly well seasoned .... But NOLA it is not If it had any other name I'd say this place is great and unreservedly give it 4 stars or more. However, it is unabashedly advertising itself as NOLA food... and quite simply it is absolutely NOT that! Maybe it should be called 'NOLA inspired kitchen' or an approximation. The service was slow but super friendly and they make everything fresh so I feel it's worth the wait. Will I go back ... probably? But, I think it's important to know when going into NOLA that you will have mostly tasty fresh food but you WILL NOT have New Orleans food. I wish I had known this prior to going ... because it was a huge disappointment when I could not feed my homesickness :(. read more

The fries were completely bland and soggy; for $5 it would've been nice to at least have a touch of salt or anything. This place has been open for about 3 weeks. The place isn't too big however they do have seating indoor and a table outdoors as well. I've been in the Gilroy area for a few years and this is for first NOLA inspired establishment I've experienced. I have traveled to NOLA and nothing will ever compare to the real deal. I ordered the jambalaya with chicken and shrimp however was not flavorful and lacked spice, I wouldn't order again. The gumbo was also ordered with shrimp I personally liked this more and felt like it was more flavorful. The chocolate beignets were good. The fries and hot wings were good, but I feel like you can't really mess those up. You do have to order at the counter and they bring the food to your table. They were very friendly and helpful. My family is from New Orleans and I think this place is spot on in terms of flavor and authenticity! Both the catfish and chicken po'boys came out fresh and were sooo good. Catfish had nice breading and was super juicy! My girlfriend appreciated that the chicken wasn't super thick and came out piping hot/fresh! Definitely made to order. The veggies tasted fresh as well. Po' boys were 10/10 definitely cant go wrong. Garlic fries tasted just like a seafood boil, definitely not your typical garlic fries. Beignets were delicious, came out fresh from the fryer and the owner was kind enough to wait until we were done with lunch before setting them out. Upon walking in you immediately notice that it is quite small. There are only a few tables for eating in which is ok as it doesn't seem to have air conditioning. I was greeted by a very nice younger person who asked if I had any questions. She answered my question in a polite manner and to took my order. I ordered Mango Habanero Chicken Wings-spicy but not overwhelming-they were fried to well-crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. I would definitely order again. I also ordered red beans and rice which was really good. The beans were tender without being mushy and the sausage had a little spice to it. The last part of my order was the gumbo with shrimp....it was so good and flavorful, the shrimp were perfectly cooked and the chicken was tender. It may not be 100% authentic Nola as others critique, but it is something different and good if you're tired of Burgers and Mexican food. We got the beef/shrimp po boy sandwich, Mufaletta panini (which was huge- enough for 2 people), beet salad with tahini dressing (delicious dressing), cajun fries (seasoning was not too powerful, just right), side of fried shrimp (had a kick to them), and chocolate beignets (a nice sweet treat after). The staff is friendly, kept things clean, checked in with us, and were attentive. They are still learning and getting into the rhythm of things, just be patient and understanding. NOLA is a brand new restaurant that just opened not too long ago. On a whim I wanted to try them, having a personal interest in anything Cajun/Creole. NOLA did not disappoint. Is it real authentic? No, not quite from what I remembered jambalaya and gumbo is (they need to just be a tad thicker in consistency and more stew-like in my opinion, but that's just how I like mine). However, good food is good food. And on a chilly day like today, NOLA's gumbo and jambalaya are just what hits the spot. Their jambalaya is packed with tender chicken and some pieces of sausage. The rice is tender and fluffy, and they're served warm. There's a touch of spicy in the jambalaya, not too much that children can't eat them (my toddler devoured spoonfuls, no problem), but still detectable. Of course, if anyone's wants it spicier, they do have good ole' tabasco that would make it the bee's knees! Their gumbo is more soup than stew, but it's definitely delicious. On its own it has the standard chicken and sausage, but shrimp can be added for $4. Pricing is fair for the amount of food they give. $5 for a cup (deep cup) of gumbo is fair and $12 for a 9 inch round aluminum container of jambalaya is also fair. We also tried their southern sweet tea with lemon and their cinnamon sugar beignets. I really liked the tea, but it's standard lemon tea, albeit not too sweet like the usual southern sweet teas often are. Beignet comes warm and fluffy with crispy outer shell and fluffy inside, definitely worth a try (3 palm sized beignets per order). Service is quick, within 5 minutes of ordering we got our food delivered to the table. All in all, I recommend trying this restaurant. I myself will be coming back to try their other offerings (such as that catfish po'boy...). read more

We came in craving bold flavor and real Southern comfort... and unfortunately, this spot didn't deliver. We ordered the catfish po' boy, but the fish tasted like it came straight out of a box--not the crispy, seasoned catfish you expect from a place claiming soul food. The gumbo was the real heartbreaker: greasy, overloaded with tomatoes, and closer to an Italian stew than anything Cajun. No crab, no real depth, and we even had to pay extra for shrimp and rice. If you're hunting for actual soul food, save yourself the disappointment and head to Jackie's in San Jose or all the way up to Oakland.
