Spooky Creepy Crawlies Cake
Kamal P.

We've gotten cakes from Bake & Bake for pretty much every one of our birthdays for the past year, sometimes multiple cakes, and they've all been amazing! Our guests love them so much, we rarely have an issue of having too much cake left after the event :) They did my cousins wedding cake as well and everyone was thrilled with the result. In terms of creativity and artistry, I've been blown away repeatedly, and the taste is incredible! Normally you have to sacrifice taste for looks, but with these cakes, as fancy as they can look, they actually taste great too!

Willow Glen

SusieCakes is one of those classic, old-school bakeries that focuses on simple, nostalgic desserts…read moredone consistently well. The vibe is clean and cheerful, and everything feels very "celebration bakery" rather than trendy or experimental. The cakes and cupcakes are the main highlight. The yellow/vanilla celebration cake in particular is soft, moist, and has a light, buttery crumb. The frosting is smooth and sweet but not overly artificial-tasting. It leans traditional--think birthday parties, family gatherings, and bake-sale-style comfort rather than gourmet or overly rich bakery styles. Portion sizes are generous, and the presentation is polished, especially for custom cakes. Customers often mention the consistency across locations--you usually know exactly what you're going to get. That said, some people feel the desserts can be on the sweeter side or slightly dense depending on preference. Pricing is definitely on the higher end for a bakery, but most agree the quality ingredients (real butter, eggs, simple recipes) and reliability justify it for special occasions. Service is generally friendly and efficient, especially for pre-orders and pickups. Overall: A dependable, classic bakery that excels at simple celebration cakes--especially vanilla/yellow cake--but may feel a bit too sweet or straightforward if you're looking for more modern or complex desserts.

It's been great having a SusieCakes in downtown Willow Glen, but a recent experience has made me rethink continuing to shop here. I pre-ordered my son's K-pop Demon Hunters cake ~1.5 weeks in advance. He's a huge fan, so we were excited that SusieCakes offered a themed cake! The cake was scheduled for a 10am pickup on Saturday. When my husband arrived and gave them my name, the staff looked confused and had no idea what order he was referring to--even after he showed the email confirmation. He said they seemed to scramble once they realized the mistake. They apologized, mentioned being short-staffed, and told him it would take 20 minutes to get the cake ready. They then offered him a single cupcake for the inconvenience, which he politely declined. After waiting the 20 minutes in the car, he went back in--only to find the cake still wasn't ready. It took another 20-25 minutes on top of that! Altogether, the order was nearly 45-50 minutes late. I didn't realize how long he had been gone until he called, and by then I was already deep into day-of party prep. I called the store to understand what happened. They apologized again and said they were short-staffed. I asked what they could do to make up for the delay, especially since we intentionally pre-ordered to avoid last-minute issues. The representative offered a $25 store credit--which felt surprisingly low considering the $100 price of the cake, the significant delay, and the lack of any proactive communication. We didn't even receive a heads-up call about the situation. The rep later put me on hold and came back to say they would instead refund $25 to my card. While I appreciate the gesture, the overall customer service felt dismissive of the inconvenience this caused on a busy party day. For a bakery I've supported so often, this experience was disappointing. I hope they improve how they handle future mishaps. It's a bummer because I truly enjoy their cakes, but the disappointment in how this situation was handled has me considering other options moving forward.

Remember to quickly set aside and hide your cookies you want to take home. The cookies are so good and beautiful that they will disappear. The first event was my son's graduation from SFSU. The graduation hats and gowns were a nice black color with gold tassels standing out, and the gator cookie was smooth with bright colors of bright gold and purple. We had two different graduating years as one graduation was in 2023 and the other was this year. Kara created a cookie for each year with a bit of sparkle in the frosting behind the year. We did vanilla and they were a hit. The second event was a large bridal shower. Between the three hostesses with very specific requests, we found four different designs and used some of Kara's. Let's start with ORDER THE LEMON COOKIES. Oh my goodness!!!! Delicious!!! Not that awful pledge flavor, but a light fresh meyer lemon taste. Because there is fresh meyer lemon in the dough and frosting. If you are a vanilla fan, then you will love the vanilla. It was also tasty. Lemon was the bride's choice, and a good choice it was! I cannot even describe how beautiful these cookies came out. We gave Kara photos and a color palate. As hostesses, we wanted these cookies perfect. They were. My only complaint is that when I got home, there weren't any left. We way over ordered, but the guests were so taken with the taste and how pretty the cookies were, they took three or four home for later with their coffee. Honestly, we over ordered because we wanted guests to take treats home to their families. I was so excited when I found a few in a bag for my son. My apologies for my crudy photography skills. The cookies were a take away gift, so they are in their little keep them fresh bags. Obviously the theme was Bride to Bee. The golds were pure and the intricacy of her decorating was meticulous. We couldn't have asked for more amazing cookies. Guests are still talking about them. Thank you, Kara, for putting so much heart and artistry into making our two major celebrations even more special.

The customer service was phenomenal--from the initial phone call to the day of pickup. Everything felt smooth, friendly, and well-organized. The banana cream cake itself was outstanding--moist, flavorful, and not overly sweet, which we really appreciated. Their popular items - the banana and almond cupcakes sell out quickly, so the front desk recommended to call ahead. I tried their banana cake since it's one of the things they're best known for. It was fluffy, moist, buttery, and didn't have a weird artificial taste. This tasted more like banana bread with added cream cheese frosting, but still very good. Their cookies were also popular because the selection was almost gone. Perhaps I came on a Saturday early evening. My only issue were the cake slices were wrapped in plastic wrap. The frosting clinging onto the wrap made it messy and threw off the cake/frosting ratio. I hope they find a better way to package slices because wrapping baked goods with plastic wrap looks bit tacky. Overall, I like their desserts aren't overly fancy, but still have that cute touch. They have that fresh, homemade quality, and it's nice to know this is a Los Gatos specialty!
