Stopped by Icicles in Gilroy and was pleasantly surprised to see they carry Peter's Bakery slices of Burnt Almond Cake! If you know, you know -- this cake is iconic in San Jose, and normally you have to drive all the way there to get it. Seeing it available here in Gilroy was such a nice surprise, and honestly I don't mind making the short drive for it. This visit I ordered the matcha ice cream and topped it with whipped cream, strawberry cheesecake bites, and almonds -- such a good combo. The matcha flavor was smooth and not too sweet, and the toppings added the perfect crunch and sweetness. They also have boba drinks, which makes it even better if you want to grab a drink with dessert. Between the rolled ice cream, boba, and slices of Burnt Almond Cake from Peter's Bakery, this place is definitely a sweet spot in Gilroy. We took my 81-year-old parents here yesterday for a little treat and Alex and Adam we're working and we pulled up a bench so my parents could sit down and watch how this delicious ice cream is created. I believe it's Japanese inspired and we are so incredibly lucky to have a place like this in Gilroy. The service was 10 out of 10. They are amazing employees that I would love to have come work for me if I owned a business and the service was incredible they talked us through everything they were doing. It was delicious. I've been to this location many times. I love the selections of ice creams and smoothies. The topping options are great. We are never disappointed when we come. The staff was friendly and offered to show us how to do things if we were new to the location. So we appreciate the gesture. It was relatively quiet minus the young adults with their language with children present. but that's not the business problem and maybe a one off issue. The location is clean and tidy. We popped in super late at night and we're craving ice cream thought perfect I could build my own unfortunately they ran out of cream yes out of cream so instead they offered some premade options which they make for delivery orders and it still didn't disappoint. It wasn't my build my own, but I still got a flavor that looked pretty good and allowed it to thaw while we were driving back to the hotel so they made it work. Y'all lost a customer at Icicles. I have loved icicles and been a customer since 2018. I stopped going since I moved away but I came back to this location as I missed it so much. I had no idea that the quality and quantity would have decreased. The price is insane now! $12 for rolled ice creamed that's not even filled to the top. (We got 5 so it came out to $60... ABSURD AMOUNT) Now they ask what toppings you want when you're ordering instead of after (I think so they can skimp out)... It also takes foreverrrr. This location is ran by high schoolers who have no idea what they're doing. I've seen other locations also lacking so maybe it's just all Icicles now. I like that the menu is fun/creative, and there are a lot of toppings to choose from. There's a wide selection and lots of customization options. The ice cream is consistently made well, and the staff are friendly! A few things that made me take off a star: - the self-order kiosk is finicky on multiple occasions. It's kind of annoying to enter your order + all your toppings only to have the card not work and then you have to re-order at the register - the light blue walls and the smell inside is a bit clinical?? It's a very distinct smell that reminds of cleaning supplies at the vet or hospital lol - no bathroom (you have to go to Walmart across the street) - not much seating inside or out. There's one bench that people sit on to wait but not much space other than that to dine in. Adding more tables/seating would make it feel like a friendlier, more social atmosphere Overall, I'd still go again but these are some minor pain points that stick out! It's pretty chewy and unfortunately I watched the prep and the persons sweater went into my ice cream, twice, while she beat the ingredients into submission. I would always use to go to this location in Gilroy even drive an hour here just to satisfy my cravings but last time I went in I had a bad experience when I was eating my ice cream I found a hair in the ice cream I even took a picture for proof. I made the drive out to Gilroy from San Jose, braving the storm, wet roads, & the traffic to see what this particular location had to offer. Finding this location was a breeze since I was able to pinpoint the signage easily. The parking situation is plentiful and spacious. I walked in and noticed two employees hard at work- one focused on preparation while the other was taking orders and ringing up at the register. My guy and I patiently waiting as the party ahead of to finish and were immediately greeted with a warm smile. Awesome first impression! We placed our order for a WAKE ME UP & BERRY SQUAD and moved over to have our treat made. The gal manning the prep station was quick, friendly, and definitely knew what she was doing. Each and every ice cream order she made was rolled to perfection- easy on the eyes and tasty going down. Toppings are unlimited so feel free to customize this to your liking and go crazy!! 5/5 stars. Really pleased to revisit this location and found the service much improved. They had many staff people working and got our ice cream done super quickly. The staff seems very safe for covid, lots of plastic barriers up and they wear gloves while making your food. You can't sit inside and eat but there were some chairs and tables outside. This is a great addition to Gilroy! The location seems and looks quite new. Everything was pretty orderly and clean on the inside. The staff member who helped me was so, so nice, it was almost unreal. She explained the whole process to me and made sure everything was just right. Unfortunately, I left my lactase pills at home, so I had to opt out of the typical ice cream to avoid any discomfort. Luckily, they do have dairy free options , so that's what I went with. I ordered the Great Raspby, which is araspberry sorbet. One thing that I liked about it was that is stayed true to the the tartness of a raspberry but wasn't too tart. I could still taste some sweetness. I really liked that the sorbet was sturdy and only melted at the very top where my toppings were. I originally wanted blackberries and bananas as toppings but they didn't have blackberries when I went so I got blueberries and bananas instead. It was good! When I came, there was no one else there, but the only seating available are the few benches against the wall, so I just decided to eat my sorbet in the car. read more

This was my first time visiting an Icicles. $8.75 for your choice of rolled ice cream and unlimited toppings. I definitely was not disappointed in the flavor. I have always wanted to try the one in Willow Glen, but the lines were way too long! I have been stalking this location since the beginning of December. I've done a couple drive-bys, the lines were crazy! Tonight I took my son with me and we braved the wait... I was pleasantly surprised, considering how many people were there, we only waited about 10 minutes. I would've expected a lot longer wait time. The staff are young, friendly, and energetic. I have visited Icicles couple times, and really want to like the concept of rolled up ice cream, but just cannot get into it. 1 star off: The rolled up ice cream tastes similar to non-rolled up ice cream, so I don't understand why this extra step is necessary (other than for show). 1 star off: Since each ice cream serving is individually made, it makes the service very slow. There is usually one or two staff making the ice cream, and it takes about 7-10 minutes to make one ice cream, so on a hot summer day, it can take 30 minutes to get your order depending on how many people are in front of you. 1 star off: The bathroom has a sign that employees must wash hands...but there is no soap. *shutter* I don't want to think about the hands that made my ice cream. read more

Overall I had a fantastic experience at the Gilroy Icicles. The place is small, with 2 stations for the employees to make your dessert. Parking - there is a private parking lot so it's super easy to find a spot. Outdoor seating - in the summer there are a few tables and chairs outside in case folks want to sit outside. Maybe a total of 3-4 tables spread out in front of the strip mall area that this place is in. The customer service is great at this place. The employees are super helpful when trying to figure out what to get in the expansive selection of choices and toppings. The ice cream is made up of toppings smashed up and then mixed with condensed milk. This is then mixed on a cold frozen steel plate. Overall it's made well, lots of topics to pick. I however do not prefer the condensed milk flavor hence the 4- stars. I prefer actual ice cream but this taste great for those who like this. read more

Cameron and everyone there is great. My 10 yr old daughter is treated so well there. It makes me happy because she's at an age where she's really experiencing life and getting socialized. And I like that people there are kind to families. We couldn't eat inside because of Covid and Cameron said in the nicest way, "Sorry, we can't have you eat inside because of the covid restrictions."
