I always go to the one in San Jose. There is always a huge line over there being in a downtown area. So when I was told they came to Gilroy, my first thought was woohoo. Second thought was that this place won't survive this area because the high cost of the ice cream and also the location. So if you don't know what Icicles is, it is an Asian ice cream technique which they use a frozen surface, pour condensed milk and your choice of flavors. When they roll it, takes about 5 minutes and then they scrape it into rolls. This reminds me of tempering and rolling chocolate. So, you look at the menu and choose what sounds good to you. I always get just strawberries with the milk. I told the girl at the register and she looked at me clueless asking if I wanted the strawberry fantasy. I said no, I don't want graham crackers, you just write down strawberries. She was still clueless so asked the manager and she came over saying I could say the plain vanilla one and add strawberries. I told her I go to the SJ one all the time and it's just milk and strawberries, that's it. On the actual website, it states :" We offer a variety of flavors including non dairy options, not to mention UNLIMITED TOPPINGS!" You have a choice of your toppings which is included in your hefty price of $8.25 each, but the Gilroy branch is super chincy on their toppings. In SJ they pile on the toppings and you really do get your money's worth. But here, they are very light on the toppings. This store offers a coupon card where you buy 5 and get one free. They had around 10 employees. I guess they have been open for about a month. I think that they need to do more training on the person at the register and also the people who roll the ice cream. But the ice cream does taste really good. read more

First day of soft opening!! I ordered the "Gotcha Matcha" and it's super good! Not too sweet and comes with whatever toppings you want (I got strawberries and mochi). Line was pretty long but the service was quick. Six stations and everyone's extremely friendly and energetic. The portion is also really big - definitely can't finish it by myself. It's located in a big plaza with plenty of easy parking. Not on google maps yet, but hopefully will show up soon. Can't wait to see what the grand opening will be! read more

Amazing service! Came by at opening and the cashier helped me make a choice between what I was craving - between honeydew and ube. I ended up getting the "Ube Everywhere". Topped it off with some bananas, condensed milk, oreo, and a roasted marshmallow. The Ube flavor isn't a strong flavor. It reminds me of taro milk tea - a very subtle light taste. It was delicious and hit the spot as I was craving for some ice cream! The rolled ice cream was super creamy and it didn't melt on me! Excellent service! Will be back! =) read more

Got an oolong tea with boba and Matcha And Thai rolled ice cream. The one star off is for the straw provided for the boba. I could not get the boba out of the straw, it wasn't a boba straw. But the flavor of the tea was great. Since it is rolled ice cream if you come when it's busy you are going to have a long wait. Employees were nice and worked hard at making the ice cream (it's a physically demanding job). The rolled ice cream flavor was good I put lychee jelly and mochi. read more

Summary: Great ice cream with a show and the line that goes with it. =) Location: This place is located by the Gilroy Walmart and across the street from Costco. There is always enough parking despite the line. My girlfriend and I visited Icicles on a cool mid Saturday afternoon and there was a line already out the door. The queue to order was fairly quick but the line to make the ice cream was pretty long. The process to get in and out the door was about took 20 minutes. That being said, most of the patrons were watching the ice cream being made. After watching a couple times you can tell which employee has a good technique. When they are ready to make your order they will call your name. At this point you move towards your server and giving you a front row seat to the spectacle. Our server was nice and made small talk as he was working. He drew hearts and other shapes as he was adding the ingredients. Its a nice touch and we could tell he likes his job. The Butterface basically tastes like a Reese's Pieces but not overwhelming sweet. =) The flavors were consistent and even considering they are mix the ice cream right in front of you. Texture wise it is very smooth like a good ice cream should be. A previous yelper noted they are not as generous with the unlimited toppings but a reasonable of toppings was added to our order. read more

Always went to the one in willow glen.. Lived out in Gilroy for awhile but didnt know they were out here ! 3 out of 5 only because the cleanliness of the place was hella dirty..... yikes. Idk what they be doing in the back but theres alot you can clearly see that can be done to make it better and more presentable? Also maybe the music could be a little more chill... it's like I was at a rap concert while trying to get ice cream. The protective glass around the ice creamer makers is finger smudged and dirty. There's a huge patch on the wall where paint is missing. They are out of half the ingredients for ice cream and quite a few toppings as well. On top of that the bathroom is disgusting. Looks about as bad as a truck stop bathroom. I've had rolled ice cream before (of course-hence being from Southern California) so this stuff wasn't new to me. What I really like about this place is that they have unlimited toppings which makes the kids so happy! I couldn't decide on what flavor to get so I went the safe way and got their BAY-sic ice cream n added some sprinkles. I like the flavor a lot, it wasn't too sweet it was just right. The guys that worked there were really polite and gave a lot of great suggestions for the kids, which was really helpful. So overall for an ice cream spot in a small town I definitely give this place 5 STARS!! Will be coming back here again once I back in town visiting my sister! I love Icicles and thrilled that they opened a location on this neck of the woods. I totally understand the concept and know that it requires intense labor and time to create a delicious cup of rolled ice cream. However, this location needs more staffing and sense of urgency. I frequent here and every visit is at least 30-45 minutes long. This is an insane wait time for a $9 cup of rolled ice cream!!! Most of the time, there's only two rollers at max. They're sweet students, but they're not quite quick! The initial location in Willow Glen has insane lines, but they're super quick! I think that type of skill set needs to be trained here in Gilroy-- Summer is around the corner! :) read more

One of the best customer service experiences by far! There were only 2 employees that I saw, but they were extremely nice. I think they could tell it was my first time going to one of these places by the smile on my face. I appreciate the fact that you can watch them make you your orders. I've been here twice. My first visit being last Friday 5/4 and yesterday 5/9. So, first, the ice cream. I love it. It's so good! I like the concept of it. Picking a base and getting toppings added to it. Smashed into the ice cream. Personally, I love the flavor of just the "Bae-sic" and adding the fresh fruit toppings. I haven't tried out the already made mixing of flavors but I will one day. The person I've gone with has tried the other menu items and has liked them. So, the ice cream gets 5 Stars from me. The service on the other hand. That's why I give it only 3 stars. The two times I've gone, it's extremely packed with customers. Which, yes it's a popular place but they need to work out some of the kinks. First, all the employees are high schoolers. Not a huge issue but they lack good customer service. I saw no real adult managing or anyone really keeping an sort of order in the store. Two, the music is way too freaking loud! You cannot hear anyone. You can't hear the person taking your order. They can't hear your response. You can't hear them call your name when they're working on your order. Nothing. You can't hear a damn thing cause the music is so loud! Three, the way they have the employees working, someone takes your order, than your cup goes mysteriously to a counter and than another employee picks up the cup and starts working on it. Than, the one who took your order adds your toppings. Leaving the people waiting in line, just to wait some more. Yesterday's visit, was a little bit unpleasant. We got there, to a little crowd. Mainly people who's order has been taken, one person ahead of us. So we get to the register where they take your order. The guys abruptly tells us to wait, that he has to go to the back. Disappears, we waited like 15 minutes before the other employees, who were making other people's orders, that one of them came to take our order. The employee that told us to wait, he had to go to the back, was gone pretty much 20 minutes. I didn't see home until we were about to leave, working on orders and not at the register. Another thing, no one is wearing a name tag? Kind of weird. The girl who made my ice cream was very nice and pleasant. She apologized for the wait. The assembly line process needs to be worked out better. I saw orders getting messed up, A LOT of product being thrown away. Especially since, some ingredients have nuts. Food allergy issues. The place where the ice cream is getting mixed hot completely cleaned due to employees being rushed. The missing employee returned to take a video of everyone else working and to text. Rather than help out. I included photos. Who ever owns this place, needs a real adult in there. Keeping things moving smoothly. It was a sad experience yesterday. Kind of disappointing. The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 was because the one guy making one order should be wearing something to keep his hair back. He had a headband, but as he leaned his head over the ice cream, his hair could easily fall into the mix. It was a little hard to watch. I hope you can make that observation with the employees. One that's getting closer to where I live! Hip hip hooray! We came here on a Saturday afternoon and there were only 3 other customers before me. Yay..this is unheard of when I go to the one in San Jose, but as more branches are opening I guess lines will also be dwindling since we don't need to travel for that one or two locations anymore. I signed up for their loyalty card. We couldn't get the card to match up but I was able to use my phone number, which I prefer anyways... I lose my cards all the time. I had the mai Thai ice cream... it was yummy. I did feel that that they could have mixed it a tad longer because when it came to eat it felt more "gummy" than an ice cream texture. So it was so damn hot this past weekend and I needed to stop for gas on the way home from SoCal. I Yelped ice cream and this spot popped up; so I thought I'd give it a go. There was a line but I decided, oh well, it must be really good for there to be a line. The girl taking my order was nice and answered my questions on "what's good here?"
