sonic's the goat whenever we are heading down to socal or coming back! the staff is always really efficient and give great customer service. the deals are pretty worth it and i like how the menu has so many options. one of the best things here imo is the fried jalapeño cheese poppers. it's super crispy and not oily. the temperature keeps pretty hot so careful when you first bite into them. the beverages are super unique as well! love their fruity drinks and their other collaborations they've had. their pickle fries / tater tot's were pretty good when they were here. read more

Any time I'm near Sonic's I need to grab a sprite and ask them to add real strawberries. It's convenient to be able to order from the car but usually we'll park and order at the station under the awning and find a table to sit at. This time we also ordered a dragon fruit Red Bull drink that was super tasty! The food is typical drive through quality. I ordered tater tot's and popcorn chicken. We went in tonight, Friday evening, the girl at the drive thru window had a nasty attitude. She gave us are drinks quickly out of the window with two of them leaking red liquid all over the place (This is not the first time they've given us sloppy service) and then she gives us our two milkshakes, one hot fudge, one banana. My girlfriend reminded the girl at the window they should have whip cream on them, and she completely got an attitude and grabs the drinks back. We also noticed it was missing a cherry, which she even was more upset that she had to correct it. It's on the menu ingredients, so... We get home and both of our milkshakes were wrong! I suggest tasting them at the window before leaving. Mine which was supposed to be banana, was Reese's peanut butter. Either the guy Travis put in the wrong order or miss attitude that made the drinks just didn't care and handed us whatever. We live on the other side of Gilroy and was not trying to drive back to fix their mistakes. We stopped coming here for years just because of this kind of stuff. While in the area, I stopped here for an American Smashburger special for six dollars. The deal is quite good though it certainly dropped some on it features in the last several weeks. Used to be a large drink with free add-ons and now it is a medium drink with add ins at an extra price. Not unreasonable but different.. This location in Gilroy is what turned me off of sonic so many years ago. It was good that I returned. The food was of a consistent quality to what I have gotten in Atascadero. The lettuce and tomatoes are quite fresh, which is something I would think would easily show a lack of concern on quality. The service was quite good with the two employees. I had interactions. I would certainly come here again. Not a very attractive location just because of the placement, but it's really the food quality and service that matter for me for fast food. read more

Used the drive thru to order two drinks and a snack. Once at the window the cashier repeated my order and I corrected her on an item twice. She ignored me both times and said yes never once clarifying what I had requested. Upon giving me my beverages she repeated the incorrect drink once again and I confirmed it was incorrect. She then stated she'd make me drink over and kept looking over at the drive thru window and rolling her eyes. Wow, what a bad experience. We just started trying Sonic out. This was our third time here, and based on two good experiences we came back again. Not anymore. Although we ordered online so if would be ready about when we got there, we sat for over 30 minutes. Then the sign said it was coming out. Five minutes later, it said it was delivered, but we hadn't received anything, so I went over to check on the order. There were three other people there with issues about their orders from them being wrong, to not influence everything they ordered, to them saying it was non existent, even though they had a receipt. They finally said they were going to bring my order out, and it was wrong, they put cheese on the hamburger and inbounds on the other although the order clearly said no on both. I don't know what crew is in today but mam they were so bad we probably won't ever come back, even though my wife lives the drinks. read more

It's a Sonic... and as Sonics go ... it's fine. The only food item I ever order is tater tots ... one of the only places you can order tater tots (so in my book that alone earns them a few stars). I do order drinks here all the time in the summer. The service is unpredictable which is in a way predictable? It's strange how slow this particular Sonic is... but ya know, I find it worth it to get my hands on whatever icy, fruity, creamy, etc. concoction I've ordered each time. Whenever I trek south to Gilroy, this is a must stop either via the drive thru window or simply to park like in the 1950's which you place order via the two way intercom and servers bring your order to the car. But this is to note my favorites so when I return, I'll know what to order. My favs are orange soda, Blood orange recharger w/Red Bull, Ched r' poppers w/ ranch dressing, pretzel twists w/ a cheese dip, (tater) tots, French toast sticks w/ maple flavored syrup and pickle fries. Yes I know, it's enough for a teenager to break out w/ pimples with all these fried foods and thank goodness I don't live in or near Gilroy. Sorry no pics. Honestly used to love this location. Hadn't had it in a few years and in the meantime was going to the Hayward location. That place was hit or miss and more times than not, it just plain sucked. So I was thinking damn maybe sonic just ain't it anymore. Went back to the gilroy location again and it was noticeably far more superior in quality. Very consistent with gilroy. Tried the double sonic smasher for the first time! It was delicious! Finally a fast food chain that has a smash burger that actually is a smash burger. Even had the thin crispy skirt edges on the patties like it a smash burger should have. Great sauce, pickles were awesome, onions and that bun is quality. Unlike Jack in the box whose smash burger is a standard patty like every other one of their dry bland burgers. Great job Sonic gilroy. I've regained faith in Sonic again and now know it's just the Hayward location that blows. read more

This is the only Sonic's location that is located near me and when I say "near" it's about a 36 mile drive.... While I have dined here a time or two, nothing has ever really stuck out as Sonic's being good. I blame my random urges to visit whenever I drive through to those advertising pictures and the commercials that always pop up. This is fast food so I won't hold the oiliness against them. I do however am extremely let down by the obvious fact that the oil could have/should have been changed out. Points for convenience while you drive through and the hours aren't too shabby either. So my granddaughter wanted Sonic for dinner after a day at Gilroy Gardens. I was a bit skeptical due to the bad reviews but we gave it a shot. Well the gentleman on the speaker was polite and professional, the order was at our vehicle in under 10 minutes, the pricing and the order were correct, food was hot and delicious, we ordered the double smash burger meals and a child's meal. This place used to be such a fun pit stop on the way from the Bay Area to or from the outlets, Gilroy Gardens, or SoCal. We stopped by for milkshakes, and it was downright sad to see the state that it's in now. As my friend said, "I've never had ice cream before and somehow felt worse." The ordering machines at the parking spots (Sonic's signature) are closed, and signs tell you to order by app instead. We couldn't find the milkshakes anywhere in the buggy app after minutes of looking, so we went through the drive-thru instead. All around were taped up hand-scribbled signs on printer paper warning you "Exact change only" and "Bathroom closed." I was enjoying my long hiatus from Yelp And freaking Sonic came along and ruined it. I have stopped at this location many times before Service is always a hit and miss. Anyways I ordered the brioche egg sandwich minus the bacon. I hate bacon from fast food places is either soft and chewy or burned. It was early morning one car ahead of me. Can even think or breathe and there if comes "Anything else" After placing my order and driving to the window I got my order fairly quick since there was only one person ahead of me. I started driving and reached into the paper bag To get the sandwich. yum!! Once I took a look and and had to pull over (see pictures) The brioche sandwich it was the most disgusting egg sandwich I have seen. Come on sonic!!! it's early morning I would think their grilled should be spotless at this time since is not even busy. But it probably wasn't and whom ever was the cook he or she has no pride on their work and cooked the egg in a dirty grill!! Unless they add black pepper to their eggs This sandwich smelled like grime I only took a bite of the bread and yes it tasted horrible. Wanna-be retro cool quirky Sonic food seems consistently just okay to me, as far as their burgers/sides/etc. It's their ice cream & desserts that are a bit better, but not any better than your average Dairy Queen.
