Came here with a friend on a Sunday early evening after hiking in Henry Coe. I ordered the tri tip sandwich with beans as a side and my friend got burnt ends with Mac and cheese and potato salad. Our food came out quickly. There were plenty of tables for indoor or outdoor seating. I'm glad that my sandwich didn't come with BBQ sauce on it and I was able to add it myself. Not very thrilled with the most recent order. I guess if you get a takeout order you better tip or they're gonna give you a skimpy order. I ordered a rack of ribs. It's $39 and a rack of rib should be 10 to 13 ribs. There was 10 ribs in the order, but they were all really skinny and not a lot of meat on them and several were really dried out like they've been sitting there all day. I gotta order before where they were fat meaty ribs when I ordered in, and I did tip because I was being served. Also, they don't take phone orders anymore so you can't actually talk to a person. We were hungry and was a tad bummed we were told the wait would be 25 min. due to folks ordering over the phone or via delivery third party apps for the football game. Service was excellent. Ronnie ordered ribs, mac and cheese, and a baked potato w/o the chives. I ordered their special (turkey sandwich w/ garlic aioli. We also ordered 2 fountain drinks. The wait was barely 15 min. Ordered bbq catering for Mother's Day. There was a lot of food! Ribs were lean and tender, chicken was delicious and the brisket was perfectly cooked. A few pieces had a lot of fat to cut away but the majority was not fatty. The baked potatoes were easily the largest ones I've ever seen! We ended up cutting them in quarters they were so big. Garlic bread was soft with a smoky flavor and was very good. Cole slaw was good, beans were spicy but everyone loved them. I would definitely order from them again. My husband and I stopped by this spot after visiting a nearby pumpkin patch and we were starving. This place hit the spot. My husband both decided to get platters. I got the brisket with slaw and potato salad. The brisket is everything I wanted it to be. It was tender, flavorful, and delicious. I must have deja vu because this place looks exactly like Aptos BBQ, Salinas BBQ & Canyons BBQ in Castro valley. The food and menus are identical! If that's the case then that makes for a bunch of solid bbq spots to stop in at in multiple locations! The tri tip is always tender with a nice smoke taste, the Mac and cheese is creamy and gooey and the beans are always full of meat! The spicy bbq sauce has a nice kick and isn't overly sweet and pair amazingly with the beans. The corn bread has a nice subtle crunch to it and isn't dry at all. Food is always great! Their catering is the absolute best. Ordering for pickup is quick and convenient. You get a text when it's ready. Their service is great. I screwed up one day and called in an order to Trail Dust when I meant to order at BBQ 152 (their Gilroy location). I only realized my mistake when I tried to pick it up. They were so kind and allowed me to cancel the order and place it at my intended location. So appreciated. It was entirely my error but they saved me a bunch of time (or money) to fix it. This was mighty fine bbq and can be easily slated as a 'best-of' in north cal. Very disappointed with my experience at Trail Dust. The food here is honestly phenomenal, which makes this even more disappointing. After working a 16-hour shift, I treated myself to brisket meal my absolute favorite on Friday 2/6 evening and made one simple request when I called in: please don't wrap it in foil. That's just my personal preference. When I picked up my order, a young male teenager maybe early 20's employee mocked me, called me a "conspiracy theorist," and then sarcastically asked if I use fluoride in my toothpaste. I'm not sure what that had to do with my food request, but it felt unnecessary and disrespectful. I'm a local small business owner in Morgan Hill and always try to support other small businesses. It's extremely difficult to find good quality workers these days. I don't blame the owner, however, customers shouldn't be mocked for simple requests. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The manager personally reached out to me and sincerely apologized for the experience. I feel like I owe this place an updated review since it's been over 10 yrs since I first reviewed it. The food has improved quite a bit. I remember my first experience wasn't the best but now we do frequent this place whenever we're feeling some BBQ. It's a local favorite among smoked meat joints and I'd have to say I think their BBQ sauce is now my favorite! It has a nice smoky flavor and their spicy has a nice kick without being overpowering. During Covid we ordered from this place quite a bit and now that Covid is a thing of the past, we actually dined in! The ratio of men-women is still unbalanced but that's every BBQ place. Mac and cheese isn't cheesy but enough cheese, the coleslaw had a apple cider vinegar taste (maybe it's just me) that I enjoyed, and the potato salad tasted like a perfect bbq potato salad. I had an unpleasant experience at Trail Dust today. We placed our order with Rosa and I ordered a 20oz beer that she poured into a 16oz glass. She was adamant that it was a 20oz glass after I questioned it. Sometimes glassware can appear like a different size so I walked away to our table. After sitting down I was certain it was a 16oz glass so I went back up to ask what the 20oz glass looked like.. I even poured my beer into the 20oz glass to show her and she still told me I was wrong. I then asked another gentleman who was working and he confirmed Rosa gave me a 16oz glass. Ample seating and there's a cute patio outdoors with lil fairy lights that turn on at night which makes it the perfect spot to chat with family and friends over a smokey meal! We got 3 plates of three different meats. The trip tip and brisket were very tender and juicy. All plates come with garlic bread, pickled veggies, and two other sides. Trail Dust never misses! Definitely one of the best barbecue qualities you can get in the South Bay Area. I arrived on a Sunday at around 2 pm. Since it was later in the day, the website wasn't too packed, and we were able to order at the counter very quickly. We ordered the combo meal with burnt ends and brisket, with sides of corn bread, cold slaw, and potato salad. Every portion of this meal was delicious. The burnt ends had the perfect smoky crunch and sweetness, which was a great contrast to the tender salty brisket which could melt in your mouth. I absolutely loved the corn bread -- many places tend to make it more sweet but Trail Dust leans toward a more savory corn bread which I enjoyed immensely. The cole slaw and potato salad were so fresh. We licked our plates clean (as we always do at Trail Dust!). Such phenomenal food every time, and I look forward to the next time we're back!! read more
