We took a random turn off the freeway to change drivers and stumbled on a little food truck food court. Ricky's offers BBQ ribs and I love BBQ ribs so I had to give it a try. I grabbed the 3 rib combo with two sides for $25. The baby back ribs were smoky and the BBQ sauce was on the sweeter side, which made it like meat candy. I love meat candy. The sides were delicious also, Mexican rice and cowboy beans were very flavorful. It also comes with garlic bread. Casual. Seating available. Good service. So sorry I've been away for a while my fellow fooodies!!! Just been dealing with mental health and stuff but today my wife and I wanted to come out and try a friend of mine, families food truck!! And l try my best to not be biased so I'll give my most honest review To start off my wife got the Quesabirrias! And she loved them! Little problem was... she did find a hair in it but that didn't dissuade here from trying and loving the dish! The consomè did not have much flavor and was lacking that good kick of dipping it in and soaking up all the juices but the quesabirria itself was crunchy and cheesy and it had a nice balance! For myself I got the tritrip sandwich! And let me tell you... it was AMAZING! The triptip was tender and very flavorful! Still crispy and the bread was toasted just right! The bbq sauce was delicious! Not too sure if it's homemade or store bought but still amazing nonetheless. The chef/owner is very kind and very welcoming! Will definitely be coming back! read more

Went yesterday to try this place for the first time, but left without purchasing. The menu prices have been covered with black tape. When I inquired about the cost of a rack of ribs, the gal told me $45. For one rack of ribs??? Trail Dust charges $39/rack and this morning, I checked Ricky's Grill website, and their website lists $39/rack. Not a fan of pricing ambiguity and unsure why a brick & mortar restaurant with more overhead can charge less than a food truck. : ( read more

Take the tennant offramp and turn right. Someone created a concrete pad with custom picnic bench seating. There are 2 food trucks/stands there, a bbq one and one serving home style mexican food. The seating area is shaded. Was 95 degrees in gilroy but there was a constant breeze. Very enjoyable. ColeSlaw: mayo with standard sliced cabbage from the restaurant supply store. Too sweet for me but kids would inhale this stuff. Beans: very good, maybe cheese in them? Not the standard pinto bean bbq sauce too sweet combo. Maybe some jalapeno in them? 3 ribs: very good, bones fell off the meat. Can see the pink smoke ring. These aren't the standard boil them first throw them on a smoker for half hour ribs. They have a heavy smoked flavor. Such a better dining/food experience than anything at or near the outlet mall. Just go another exit up and take a right at the exit if going north. read more

Mehh, we got the tri tip sandwich and it was overly smokey, charred, and tasted like propane. Some may enjoy that, but it's definitely not for me. They were also advertising the oh so popular "birria tacos", which were a disappointment as well. It was better than the tri tip sandwich, but still underwhelming. It doesn't come with the dipping broth on the side, it's just a regular opened street taco, not the ones they fold in half with cheese and all the good stuff. Instead, the tacos came butt naked (meat only)! I finally gave this truck a shot becuase we drive by all the time and we especially wanted to support "small businesses" during this pandemic. However, I really didn't appreciate their insensitivity around covid and the extra safety precautions at all. All condiments (salsa, bbq sauce, onions cilantro, etc.) were all self served........ no sanitizer at the station either. AND they had full on communal benches to eat there... health hazard on all levels and definitely not complying with the CDC. Unfortunately, I'll have to keep driving by! It was worth a shot though. read more

Where else can you get both high quality taste and value! This place has bbq and Mexican burritos in the same place! Nowhere but here lol. Very happy with the customer service and the quality food. They also have a few benches to have a nice picnic with family or friends. We are happy with the burritos and ribs and chicken with potato salad and rice. We came by for lunch and had the BBQ chicken, tri tip and ribs. They were all so good. Full of flavor, moist. I got tomato rice and beans for my sides. They also had grilled onions, jalapeño and salsa as condiments. I'm picky with my BBQ and would fly to Texas to get my BBQ fix. Now I don't have to travel far anymore. Best BBQ in the area. We were in the mood for some bbq but upon arriving we saw they also were serving birria tacos dorados, birria burritos, birria tortas and birria de plato. We ordered a birria burrito, 3 tacos dorados, 1 tri tip sandwich with sides & another without sides. Our total was $50, a little pricey. The tri tip sandwich was small with not much meat inside. Sides were about a scoop of ice cream. Coleslaw was tasty, rice was missing a little bit of flavor. The tacos were crunchy and cheesy. Good portion of consume. I had always wanted to try this place I am honestly so surprised that it has good reviews. I ordered a tri-tip sandwich and it is literally about 2 ounces of overdone steak and a big piece of bread for $15 without any sides (with tax and tip). Got barbecue sauce on the side and it's flavorless and watery. Save your time and go to traildust for real bbq. read more

Was driving past this BBQ truck on the way to my hotel just now and got some lunch to go - two ribs and a piece of chicken with two sides and bread for $14.99. You can see the giant smoker next to their truck so I knew this freshly smoked food, independently owned place, would be great. Portions were very good so I'm happy about the price. would have given this fantastic barbecue place a 5 star if I had only gotten the chicken with the two sides, because the chicken was so flavorful and so moist it did not even need barbecue sauce!!! the rice and beans were perfect perfect perfect!!! I'm still trying to figure out the beans... I don't think they were Pinto but they were so unbelievably flavorful and juicy and fantastic! I had a choice of homemade tortillas or garlic bread and got the garlic bread which was a huge piece! They have a bunch of condiments that you can help yourself to: BBQ sauce, spicy BBQ sauce, salsa verde, pickled jalapenos, etc. For the record I was so super stuffed. I really couldn't finish everything and I'm a good eater! BUT the 2 ribs.... although had good flavor.... they were tough... definitely needed to be cooked longer. That was a bummer that I had to chew so hard. If ever I'm in this area I will definitely stop by again and order the chicken, or maybe they'll read this post and learn that the rib meat should be practically falling off the bone. read more

Husband and went here the other day for lunch. We got there before the rush, thank goodness! I'm a pretty picky eater and this was amazing! I grew up in Texas do I know good bbq. The lady gave us a sample of the meats. Chicken breast, tritip and ribs. The ribs were so delicious and I don't even like ribs! My husband just stared at me chowing down and was like "who are you" . The chicken was delicious and not dry at all and we both loved the tritip! Cooked to perfection and thinly sliced. I ordered chicken thighs (before I had tasted the breast) and husband got tritip sandwich. The portions are pretty big, we both had leftovers. The thighs were amazing, moist, literally falling apart. I love thighs but the breast was so good I would get it too. I definitely recommend this place! read more

Saw the sign for Ricky's on Monterey a couple months ago and decided to stop by. The wife and I both had barbecue chicken and it was pretty darn good. So we decided to go back again this afternoon for lunch and I had a chicken burrito this time. I asked for breast meat and no sour cream or guacamole. The guy that took my order was very friendly and accommodating. But when I got the burrito pretty much every bite I took had bones in it. It was absolutely disgusting. About after five or six bites of having the same thing happen pretty much every time I just gave up and threw away half the burrito and left. Don't think I'll be going back. read more

We had a last minute family gathering and knew only one person to call for some good BBQ. Ricky's was able to accommodate my request at the last minute even though he had other plans for the day. only open on weekends right now. Tri tip sandwiches were fireeee. Not dry at all, marinated and juicy and the bbq sauce is p good too. Good people who work there. Ricky's Grill is the best in the south county area. I love their BBQ Chicken. I also always order their rice and beans! Be sure to check them out on tennant avenue in Morgan Hill and in the month of October at the Uesugi Farms pumpkin park. The staff is always friendly and ready to take your order. They're pretty good, the only issue is that it takes a little bit for them to get the order finished. However, it's worth waiting. I've had bbq from all over and I would argue that it's one of the better ones. It's California style bbq, if you understand that concept, you'll be pleased with what they have to offer. read more

My boyfriend and I have come to this truck a few times and absolutely love the food! They have the best chicken burrito and their side beans/rice are delicious and original recipe! I have no idea how they keep their chicken so juicy but it is amazing. They offer great portion sizes and quality for the price. You definitely get what you pay for. I'm still stunned how good the burgers and pizza are and honestly I call it Vegan Black Magic because it's not just good it's honestly better tasting than some of my favorite burger joints. We tried out the California buffalo wings yesterday and they absolutely popped. If you're still on the fence: Frozen cocktails on an 80 degree day is going to make for a great experience. They offer great outdoor seating, service is fast and you will be blown away by the dishes they create. My girlfriend shared a slice of her pizza and it was absolute !

However I have a suggestion - because the cost of the tri tip is misleading and I paid almost $20 for marinade!: Try to bulk marinade your tri tip and then sell it at its real price -- OR be more transparent about the actual size and cost of the tri tip. Today I bought a tri tip -- @ $15/lb. I thought I was getting a 3.5 pound tri tip @ $51.50. However, when I weighed it at home, the tri tip it was only 2.3 pounds. The marinade was 18 ounces!... so paid approximately $17 - a third of my cost - for something I couldn't use. The TRUE cost of the tri tip was approx. $25 a pound. So I paid almost $20 for marinade which you can't really use... I have never had this issue before -- with such a copious amount of liquid.
