The food was absolutely delicious tonight, the atmosphere was romantic, the waiter's timing was perfect and that cheesecake still is wonderful. We had several appetizers including a burratta, large fried sardines over mesclin salad and carpaccio over arugula-all excellent. I had the lamb chop special which was coated and fried to perfection. The fresh water shrimp special contained 6 very large shrimp, almost looked like 6 small lobster tails. The seafood over linguine entree was very fresh calamari, clams and mussels over linguine in a delectable red sauce that was worthy of dipping their tasty rustic bread into! We came with my parents for a pre-dinner meal. My father picks restaurants by the noise level, and this place was great because they have many small areas or rooms for dining, so we could all hear one another. The food was good. We picked Nocello for our date night because of its close proximity to all the Christmasy sites- Rockefeller Tree and 5th avenue window displays. I'm glad we did, because we had a wonderful meal and excellent service, amidst festive decor! Nocello is a U-shaped restaurant, so there is ample seating, but the seating can be a bit cramped. The decor was very festive for the holidays, which I really appreciated. We ordered a bottle of wine for the table, and our glasses were continuously filled throughout our meal. The menu was impressive but we ended up ordering the specials because they sounded too good to pass up. We got a cold antipasto platter to share, I ordered a homemade fettuccine with lobster and shrimp, and the boyfriend ordered a duck risotto. We both agree that I got the better dish. The lobster and shrimp were so fresh and had the perfect bite to them. The dish came with more lobster than I anticipated. The lobster tails were prepared such that the meat was easily accessible without using tools or hurting your fingers. Essentially, the succulent pieces of meat were hanging out of the sliced tails at 45 degree angles. The fettuccine was delicious (I'm a sucker for homemade pasta). The boyfriend's duck risotto was good, but the duck pieces were quite small and mixed into the risotto, whereas we expected slices of duck on a bed of risotto. The dish looked sort of like oatmeal, which wasn't super appetizing. But the flavor of the risotto made up for the plating. However, it was a super heavy and cheesy dish, and we both ended up very full after our meal. I definitely recommend this cozy and romantic restaurant! read more

All I can say is OMG! This place is amazing. Found this place down the street from our hotel (Central Park Hotel) and so glad we did. My husband ordered the Lobster Alfredo with pink sauce and I ordered the Lamb Chops and everything was delicious. My husband Lobster tasted like it was retrieved from the ocean that same day and my lamb chops are the best I ever tasted. Asked for a recommendation from the hotel and they immediately dialed the phone and made a reservation. New York people, love them, ask and you shall receive! Great "Ma and Pa" authentic Italian restaurant. Great location by our hotel. Greeted by a very smiling, pleasant Constantio who was very strict about abiding to checking our CDC vaccination cards and IDs. Very relaxing atmosphere, professional ( our waiter was very well pressed!). House salads for starters, fresh and ample. Felt at home, just like Italy! Ordered pasta with Marinara, mozzarella and basil ($20). Requested angel hair instead of penne, perfectly cooked. I honestly was full from the fresh bread, olives and salad~ far from put a dent in the meal. Night special included stuffed veal ($43), it followed incredible raves, well loved. Finished with dessert of delicious Zabaioni . I will return to Nocello on my next visit to New York City~ read more

We enter in to restaurant and the hostess who also appears to be the manager says to my friend and I "you have to be out by 6"! We were caught so off gaurd. As an African American women we are aware that prejudice is alive an well. At first we thought because we didn't have a reservations. However, we noticed the difference when other patrons who are Caucasians and didn't have a reservation they didn't get pissed with that question. Service could have been better. So sad because this place has been around a long time and the behaviors are appalling. Takes away from other aspects such as food!!! read more

We come to Nocello about 5 times a year since our first visit in '11. We have become so fond of the service, food and ambiance that we had a major gathering here a few years back--about 40 folks. It is still talked about to this day. The owners and their staff, both kitchen and servers, are consistent in the care and attention they bring to each visit. We are never rushed. Any special requests (allergies, getting a main dish in an appetizer size) are honored graciously. They are flexible and generous as hosts. It remains the kind of place that you share with people you care about who want to have delicious food and drink in a quiet, intimate, elegant, cozy atmosphere. The one piece of advice is to know that they are popular for pre-theatre meals and the vibe is much busier at that time. So Mondays (a dark night on B'way) are wonderful and after 7:30 on the other nights allows for the calm to prevail. Highly recommended. read more

The food was off the charts delicious. The service was on point, always there when we needed them but never overbearing. Nice Little Italian Restaurant in Theater District The ambiance and food at this small Italian restaurant in the theater district is quite good. The full range of choices one associates with an Italian restaurant are available. It was hard to choose among the full range of veal, chicken, seafood and pasta options. Ah Midtown, you are a dearth of affordable yet delicious restaurants. Nocello is definitely more of a moderate restaurant, but not quite sure if it was worth it. I think paying a few more bucks for better food would be well worth it. The place is so cozy and upscale. We sat in the back room and although tight quarters (they really pack ya in there), it was still quite a nice ambiance. The piping hot bread to start was a great sign, but that's where the meal started to nose dive. The entree's took forever to come out. No biggie, but waiting almost 40 minutes for our meals on a Sunday at 7pm was a bit painful. The entree's came out. My chicken with eggplant at ($20) wasn't huge, which is ok, but the chicken was thick and dry and not flavorful or fresh. Topped with a very small piece of eggplant with some mozzarella and some very basic tomato sauce, this meal wasn't quite good. It was served with some steamed veggies (eh) and some pretty flavorless mashed potatoes. I wasn't a fan. My guy got a veal dish and he was even a bit more pissed. His veal dish had a few pieces of super thin, over cooked veal shavings served with the same veggies and potatoes. If my parents weren't there, he would have not eaten any of it, but didn't want to cause a ruckus. My parents seemed happy enough with their pasta and I grabbed a bite and it was fine, nothing outstanding. Overall, I'd pass on Nocello. A lovely place and solid midtown choice. Cozy ambience (for which one is grateful in midtown), on-site couple who own the place warmly engage patrons, the bread and olives are a wonderful beginning, the food is good, there's sometimes an off-menu chocolate cake that is to die for. Agree with other reviews that the servers are lacking in warmth and in some cases competence. The owners are so nice they should have servers who reflect that same warmth and who are excellent. There's no excuse for notably subpar service in a place with so many other pluses. Overall though, definitely recommend Nocello. read more

Nocello is where my family has celebrated our occasions and my wife and I would frequently have dinner there. There are many good restaurants within walking distance of our home and COVID-19 kept us at home. We took advantage of Restaurant Week last night and I had a salad, Chicken Francaise with pasta and a cannelloni which were delicious. And I took enough food home for another dinner. I made a reservation for next Saturday after hearing about the Osso Buco, which is not on the Restaiurant Week menu and I have to have it. Delicious intimate gem walking distance from Times Square. 4 of us ate here including my wife, 8yr old and a family friend . We all ordered something different. I had the salmon which was perfectly cooked light delicate and flavorful. Our friend had the veal fruscati which she said was excellent. The polenta Nocello appetizer was delicious. Before I start, some disclosure: I am of Italian descent through my mother's side, and am from a line of excellent cooks who I seek to follow. I can be a bit judgy when it comes to Italian food. Take what I say with that in mind. My wife and I visited NYC for the 2017 New York City Marathon, and as I was planning the trip she had only one food requirement: something with carbs that was easy on the stomach for the night before the race. My mind went immediately to Italian food, and looking around the area near our hotel I found Nocello, a small Italian place that looked like it had a good menu and wine list. I was sold. We were seated quickly upon arrival and promptly served. We chose a Chianti from the wine list (which was indeed good) and ordered a couple of salads. My Caesar was good, and her endive / walnut salad was great - both of us were happy with this course. For mains, I ordered rigatoni with sausage and pink sauce - somewhat standard -but she ordered one of the specials that involved Lobster over linguine. When our meals arrived, I clearly saw the difference in scope and ambition - while I could discern how I could cook my own meal, I could not have even approached hers. Special indeed! We both wound up enjoying our food, and she felt that it was a perfect pre-race meal. As a bonus, she was completely charmed by the Italian-speaking staff. I went with 2 friends and as soon we were seated we were treated poorly! We are young 20 and 22 years. The waiter was rude and disrespectful. He was telling other customers how he was annoyed he had to serve us and said other things we didn't hear all of it. We were quiet and didn't ask for anything more than choices off the menu. Even though we felt uncomfortable and mistreated we did the mature thing and tipped him 20%. He didn't even thank us! Needless to say we will never return! read more

A quaint, cozy, and romantic Italian restaurant with very reasonably priced dishes and wine. It is very quiet so probably not the best place for a large group or rambunctious crowd but a great spot for a date. Wine bottles start at $29 (quite a few choices) and entrees are $15-$25 on average. The burrata and cheese ravioli were both above average. The food, while not the best, is quite good. Service is also quick and friendly although slightly disorganized (two different people asked us for our drink orders and to check our IDs). I've had a lot of italian food, in Italy, in NY, but rare is it do I leave an establishment like this. Rarer is it for me to say that the quality of service was even more impeccable than the food, but this is evidently the case.
