Even sang "Happy Birthday" to my companion celebrant. From the garlic bread and house-made olive oil mixture, through dessert - all was good. I enjoyed the clear broth, vegetable minestrone with lots of carrot and celery. The Tuscan Salad was fresh and good. Do note it's got an onion kick to it. A pre-show dinner. Quaint little place for Italian ENTRANCE - we were greeted and reservations checked LAYOUT - the restaurant is narrow but long AMBIANCE - very cool looking with nice tables. Lots of pictures on the wall SERVICE - the waiters were nice and the bus folks kept glasses full APPETIZERS - I had the mussels which were very good. The broth was a touch salty. Food is really good not your typical Italian which in nyc is really good. Most places have fried calamari which is meh for me. This place has delicious grilled calamari on greens which is really good. Their tartuffo is especially good too. The waiters need some training. Our waiter was very pushy one other one was nice but the food is too good for the waiter to be gruff and agressive.....hopefully the owner will give some feedback to the waiters b/c some people are really turned off by this kind of non service. read more

Spacious Italian spot in midtown and close to major tourist spots such as Central Park, MSG etc. Waiters were very attentive and all of them took turns; perhaps tips are shared? They frequently checked in on us which we greatly appreciated. Food was great (we had the special lobster tail fettuccine w no shrimp and requested it be made w the spicy sauce was delicious and homemade vegetable ravioli) except for the pistachio dessert. Not sure how it's one of the most popular dessert on Yelp but I guess everyone's tastebuds are different. Our fav was the baked clam. The owners came around at separate times to ask us how things were going, and the weight staff was very attentive and refilled our wine, glasses and water glasses. This place is a gem and the staff are one of a kind. My boyfriend took me here to celebrate my birthday and I felt like I was in Italy the moment I stepped inside. While the restaurant is small it has an intimate and personal vibe. Throughout the evening multiple servers came to check on us and it felt wonderful to receive that level of attention. Wasn't going to have dessert, but another couple recommended the pistachio cake. He had the custard with fruit. Both Delicious! The cappuccino Delicious! An old Italian restaurant from the past is here in New York City. Close to the theatre district, Nocello has been here for a long time. This was my first time here. It was recommended by one of the couple we went with. We were heading to a special event and needed to be out by 730. Good thing we were there at 530. The restaurant has a very nice, cultured ambiance, a large selection of primi and secondi entrees, appetizers and desert selections. They have specials of the day from appetizer to entrees. The variety is extensive from pasta, to fish, to true Italian, to fish and lobster. Prices are accordingly as this is a smaller and more intimate place. You will find more locals here and not people coming in from out of town. Last night we started with appetizers of salads and claims. The claims where small and cooked in a wine sauce. They were small and the price was high for 6 claims. Next we had two pasta dishes. One with a lamb rague and the other with broccoli rabe - a different type of broccoli that many Italians enjoy at home. This also include some fresh sausage. The taste was fine. It was fresh pasta and well seasoned. The wine sauce was goos and the broccoli was fine. But it was a bit over cooked and bland. There was no difference to the flavor it normally has. It was ok. The lamb pasta was better. We also had come chicken and salmon. Again, the taste was good and the flavor was fine. The salmon was fresh. It was served on some vegetables which were also fresh. As for the chicken it was breaded and cooked then topped with white wine. As for service, last night, service was erratic unlike other times. Our server floated in and out. You would make an order for something and he would disappear. You would always have water, but order a glass of wine and they vanished again. That would never come back for you. One of our diners had to ask for oil multiple times. The staff was either short-handed, harried or both. Plus the service between each course took more than 30 minutes. We never even ordered an espresso as we had to go the the theatre. Overall, the place is a reminder of the past. It is small and beautiful. The food is good. The prices are high. There are other and better places at a more reasonable price. The best part is that you can always remember that there is a place you can go before an event to attend. Just make sure you go early so you have enough time. 2 hours is not enough. You do need more. We shall give it another try. Ciao! read more

I came from Florida to visit my uncles who live down the street and they had nothing but great things to say about the food & their service. When we arrived, we were immediately taken to our table and drink orders were taken(keep in mind we were a group of 9 people). Shortly after, while cocktails were being made our server returned to give a run down of their specials of that evening and chefs menu. Once o my ur drinks arrived - I ordered an expresso martini, our orders began to be taken. I ordered the chefs special which was a Alla Vodka Lobster & Shrimp linguini & my sister ordered the tortellini. So far the experience is amazing. Staff is very kind, waters & soft beverages remained always filled, we were able to chit chat amongst each other before our dinner arrived. Presentation,10. Taste, 10. Wow! I have to say the pasta was spectacular. Tasted fresh, authentic, & flavorful. I was very pleased with my dinner. My sister loved her tortellini. Didn't even let me try it... Then while we were oh so stuffed, they brought their dessert menu, but we were honestly so full. However, no wasn't an option. They comped tiramisu for everyone at the table. When I tell you, I've NEVER had tiramisu like the one they served... I was disappointed in myself for not ordering in the first place. It was so fluffy, light, & delicious! Not that cakey, tiramisu usually get at chain Italian restaurants... Moral of all of this is, the experience, the food, cocktails, dessert was 10/10. After finishing our activities at SPYSCAPE, my friends and I went across the street to Nocello since we were craving Italian food. I was so surprised at how easy it was to find authentic Italian food; upon entering, you can definitely tell that all the staff are Italian, they have pride in their food, and that they are very true to their roots. Interestingly, Nocello is a northern Italian restaurant, but I did not notice a distinction when I went. The atmosphere is pretty dark but they have LIGHT-UP MENUS! This is so cool and I absolutely love the concept. Before our food came out, we were served with bread and olive oil. Our first serving was great, I recommend adding salt and pepper to the oil before dipping it. On our second serving, we asked our server if we could get a bit of mozzerella to mix into our oil and he happily obliged and gave us TONS of mozz for our plates. As for actual food, I ordered the Pappardelle with Lamb Ragu. My boyfriend ordered the Rigatoni Imperatore and my friend ordered the Farfalle Alexander. Out of the three, my favorite was definitely the Rigatoni. The Italian sausage was so flavorful and I was a huge fan of the pasta. The Pappardelle was great too; didn't expect the tomato chunks (not listed on the menu) so I ended up switching with my boyfriend. I also ordered an Affogato which I had at the end, which was alright. I probably would have preferred the ice cream by itself rather than in affogato form, since the coffee was nothing special. In the end, though, we all walked out full and content. The prices here are very typical for NYC, so be ready to spend a bit here. read more

What a wonderful hidden find. Family owned Italian restaurant with excellent food. Since it is dark, like all Italian restaurant, their menus light up. It is truly unique and perfect for the situation. We loved every aspect of our food. The salad, soup, garlic bread, and entrees we all stellar. The lentil soup with sausage was a good surprise. The owners came to our table to check on things and welcome us. Pricing was what you would expect for NYC and the quality of food, but it didn't break the bank! I usually stay in midtown when I come to visit - and Nocello is right around the corner from the hotel. I'm not sure how I've never noticed it - tonight we went thinking it looked pretty good. Expectations were high, and they were exceeded! Such a lovely space and NOT cramped and crowded - the servers were a bit disorganized, but were all so attentive and friendly making sure everything was just what we wanted. And the food...some of the best pasta I think I've ever had. I will be back without hesitation! Bravi tutti. Food: Linguini with lobster and shrimp special, halibut special, garlic bread (tbh, it was a bit too strongly spiced for us...but if you like a LOT of garlic, GET IT. I never get the positive reviews on here. We gave it another chance this weekend and were very disappointed. The last time we came the only thing we really loved was the artichoke appetizer, and again that was the only good thing. This place is obsessed with you ordering dessert. The last time we had the manager and four different waiters coming out of the woodwork asking us if we want dessert. This time it was three, and one of them wasn't even in our area. Very odd. Getting back to the food, everything is in the same red, basic marinara sauce. The Calamari pasta was in the same red marinara sauce as the artichoke which we ate without it, but this was unavoidable. Also there was a shell, or as the manager pointed out a bone in the Calamari. He thought that I thought it was plastic, and said sometimes it happens! So I should be ok with a "bone" or shell in my calamari? I could have choked on it! He wasn't even that apologetic as if it's normal! I've never had a shell or bone in calamari and I'm eating it for years! The prosciutto over melon was a total rip off and the melon had no flavor, and we've had better prosciutto from the package, and it was $19.00 for three pieces. The Lamb ragout wasn't very good either but we didn't say anything and nobody came by to ask us if everything was ok, they are only attentive when it comes to taking the drink orders and dessert. It seems like there are some locals and an older crowd, but otherwise it seems touristy. Because it's local, and is very mom and pop we figured we would give it another chance in spite of the food being mediocre last time bothering us to for dessert. In fact last time the manager ( or maybe he's the owner) actually was begging us to try his pistachio cake, and says it's the best even though we said we don't eat dessert. That turned us off from returning last time, but after this most recent dinner, we won't return again. read more

An exquisite and romantic Italian meal in midtown. Love the spacing of the tables. The restaurant was crowded yet we didn't feel like we were rubbing elbows. The staff is attentive and friendly. The best part is the menus light up! Yes you open the menu and it has a backlight! My husband usually has to pull out his flashlight in a restaurant to read the menu and it's so bright. This was discrete and genius!! We ordered a bottle of wine and garlic bread to start. For our main course I had pollo panetone which is basically chicken & eggplant parm. Hubs ordered pollo Romano -chicken in white wine with artichoke and sun dried tomato. Both meals were spectacular! Fresh and full of flavor. Now I never eat dessert unless there's a ricotta cheesecake on the menu. My husband knows me well. He ordered it and asked for a drizzle of chocolate on top. My wife and I went to Nocello on a trip to NYC in mid-December. We were only in NYC for two full days, and wanted to make sure we got some real Italian food. Nocello was a perfect spot for us, as it was in walking distance from the Times Square area and was on our route to see the Nutracker at the NYCB. The food was great! I had the Seafood Pescatore and it was very good. Service was also outstanding. They sat us on time with our reservation, took our coats and were immediately over to our table. My wife is dairy free and gluten free, so as you can imagine, it is sometimes hard to find a dish that meets both of those qualifications. Despite that, the servers were more than helpful, double checking the ingredients of the dishes and checking with the kitchen staff. Lastly, the seating can be a little bit tight, but in my opinion it helped with the overall ambiance and family feel of the restaurant. Came here with a friend of mine who lives in the area. The ambiance is truly amazing. Some singer who perhaps is known was present and sang briefly while we were there so we got dinner and opera the same night. Service was fantastic and you should know their chicken parmigiana with eggplant also came with carrots and mashed potatoes, which you usually don't see but since I like both I ate those almost right away. For dessert, I had the cannoli and definitely can recommend that. Overall, a great experience and I'd return if invited again. read more

Some of the food needed salt and the menu was not particularly varied. The ambience was great, the restaurant was well decorated for valentine's day and was spacious. Food 2/5: I got the special ravioli of the day (roasted beets and cheese), my friend got the salmon pasta, and we got garlic bread to share. The pastas were mediocre and definitely not worth this price (overcooked, etc.). The best part of the meal was the warm bread and olives that came at the beginning. Service / ambience 3/5: Service was fine but very matter of fact and felt like they were trying to rush you out of the restaurant. It was served cold which I am not sure why you wouldn't keep it in a bread warmer. The sambuca aperitif we ordered was also served cold which was a bit disappointing. The homemade cheesecake was also not that great maybe a different dessert would have been a better option.
