RACISM of any kind is unacceptable. Overt public racism by a business that caters to a community in this city, at this time needs to be, at the very least, called out. It's unacceptable and completely disgusting. My wife and daughters planned a special day that included getting their nails done at NK NAILS. While they were there, they overheard the salon employee "Mary" and a few older white women (disclaimer: I am also white, so I hope it's okay for me to say that) laughing and making racial jokes while a young African American girl in her 20's was sitting not too far away, and was obviously hearing the conversation that Mary and her White Ladies made no attempt to extinguish. My oldest daughter overheard and immediately made it a point to let my wife & other daughter know what was happening. They immediately brought it to the attention of the two gentlemen who own NK NAILS, along with identifying which employees were spewing the racial comments & ongoing conversation. By this time, the girl who had been listening to the filth was trying to hold back her tears, but not able to. After it became apparent that the ownership at NK NAILS was not going to do anything about the racist environment they allow, other than to say that "they have bi-racial" family members (which apparently means that you can have hurtful, RACIST conversations but allows you a free pass to do so), my wife and daughter paid for the girls' bill before leaving, letting the owners know that they will never patronize their nail spa again (disclaimer two: they collectively went there a lot in the past). I don't include this to make them out to be anything more than we all should be: human beings who care about human beings. Rather, I am so disappointed (by now not surprised, unfortunately) that NK NAILS had the audacity to NOT, at the VERY LEAST, pay for her charges. In the end, my family made a wonderful new friend outside of NK NAILS who is also studying the same major as one of our daughters. After some more tears & exchange of contact info, they are all getting together after the holidays. In closing, I hope the other people who were at NK NAILS and overheard this will consider making it a point to stand up and make your voice heard when you hear hurtful conversations or see things that you know are wrong. Visual aesthetic is important for me, it lifts my mood, makes me feel good about being there. The others joints were not pretty. Very disappointed with the service I received today. I came in today to have my gel nails taken off , if I had more time I would've gotten my nails done. After the kind lady removed the gel I asked her if she could please file and clean up the dirt underneath my nails. She told me she had to ask her manager. Upon returning she Informed me that I had to get a manicure in order for her to clean my nails. I felt very disappointed because it wasn't going to require a lot of time to just spruce up my nails . I got my nails done on Saturday the nail broke on Sunday night not doing anything but sitting at my desk. I went to go get my nail fixed on Tuesday because they were closed Sunday evening when I broke it that night. The lady was rude and told me it wouldn't just break. and the lady that fixed my mail gave me the wrong shape and wrong color after I showed her the color. the paint job was sloppy and they still charged me to fix the nail that was poorly done. I am outgoing so I don't mind starting conversations with strangers and it was great chatting with the employees. I was asked questions about length, style, etc. I knew everything that was happening and I even knew what was happening to my girlfriend. Vanna took care of my fill and matte French tips, she free handed perfect tips! Jenny did my girlfriends ombré full fill and it looks like a fairy shit magic on her fingers. There was nail polish on my palm after I finished drying. The owner (who was very nice) used nail polish remover to get it off but accidentally spilled a drop on my nails. I showed him, he laughed, and immediately fixed it with no questions asked. I was shocked that someone reviewed this place negatively because some of the workers were speaking in a different language in front of them, shame on you. Don't be so self centered and assume they are speaking a different language to make fun of you. I came last week for a full set and deluxe pedicure - the woman who did my nails went against my wishes and did dip nails, when I said I did not want it, but I'm stupid and polite, so I did not say anything. She not only rushed to just get me out of here, but they were horribly misshapen to the point where I left wanting to cry. My pedicure woman actually did a great job on the actual pedicure itself, but TWO DAYS later the nail polish is completely ruined. The top coat was non existent. My bill? $150. The dip nails that I did not ask for and even said at the beginning of the session when she questioned why I was not getting it was that I DID NOT LIKE IT the last time I visited, but she didn't want to actually do what I asked because it would have taken time, which is not what anyone here does. This makes me extremely sad because I've been here before, I always tip well and am friendly with the ladies, and when you get a job like this done and are charged a premium, and then on top of that mention the misshapen nails and all they so to remedy is barely buff them out... You're going to be bummed. So, as much as I've tried to like and support this local business, I'm done. Please consider showing your clients who like you a little more respect and respect what they ask for, rather than think you know better and then do a poor job at it and sneakily charge me for the premium service while providing sub par quality. The level of disrespect I felt in this establishment was outrageous. I asked for two pedicures a manicure and a GELX Set. Once we sat down for the pedicure, I was told they did not do GELX at that salon. This wasn't mentioned initially. It looks like I found a new spot to get my pedicures done at. I've been loyal to another place in West Seattle for over 3 years, but NK Nails won me over today. Upon my arrival to NK Nails, I was greeted by a male at the front desk who asked me what I would like to have done. This was already a great start for me because I'm used to walking into places where all the nail techs just look at me and then speak Vietnamese and never say whether or not they can get me in, lol. It was nice to have someone address me right away and see they have a bit of a "receptionist" area. Things seem more professional that way. I got my pedicure from Hannah, who I absolutely adore. She was so sweet, made a lot of conversation with me, and asked me many times if I wanted anything to drink. That's also what I really love about this place. I don't think you'll find any where else in West Seattle that offers you beer, wine, soda, or tea when you get a pedicure. Not at these prices and definitely not at a smaller nail shop similar to this one. Hannah gave me a really great pedicure and I appreciated the fact that she didn't rush me. She listened to what I wanted done and gave me exactly that. I really appreciate a nail tech who takes their time. She did a great job and I'll definitely be requesting her the next time. I see a lot of the 1-star reviews have to do with the nail tech named Mary. I saw who Mary was and it's interesting to see so many people on here are dissatisfied with her. While I was there, there were about 3 or 4 women who you could tell were regulars, make conversation with her and obviously have a great relationship with her. Honestly the worst set of acrylics I've ever gotten. Two stars because I've enjoyed pedicures here in the past, But honestly I've never been very impressed with the actual job they did painting the toenails, I just like the spa services part of it. But I got a full set of acrylics here a couple days ago because my normal salon was too busy to fit me in and I had a party that night. And the results were atrocious. I asked for an almond shape I kept trying to get her to make it longer and she kept fighting me and wanting to do it shorter and filing them down. The result is these weird little triangle nails? The surface is uneven so when you apply nail polish you see lots of different bumps and flat parts and irregularities in the surface of the nail. The edges are atrocious and there is so much of the acrylic and glue caked onto the edges of my nail and underneath my nail. I get acrylics all the time and I've never had it look this bad before. And usually every place I've been uses the nail drill thing file back at the cuticles, to get a nice smooth application at the base of the nail and she did none of that. The whole thing was just incredibly sloppy and I'm very upset. This was done by Vanna and she has other good reviews on here so I don't know why she did such an abnormally bad job on me. Maybe it was because I was getting a pedicure? I usually hate getting the two services simultaneously and I told the guy up front I didn't want them simultaneously but they insisted that I do it that way. It's very clean and it never hurts that they serve you a drink if you want one! I usually get the standard mani/pedi or maybe gel nails but I recently started getting acrylics because I got married and have kept them since for fun. I get my acrylics done by Jenny!! I was beyond disappointed in my visit to those nail salon. I just moved and was doing my due diligence on nail salons in the area, their Instagram was pretty impressive compared to others. I know I'm particular because I know how I need to have them to be able to last because I'm a bartender and I'm extremely hard on my nails (but I tip amazingly because of it) I've gotten my nails done with acrylics since I was in 9th grade, I love the experience of getting them done. Once I find a good nail tech I'm loyal to a fault (Still searching for my Washington nail tech). So I went in the day before my birthday to get a full set of acrylics with some nail art. When I called and told them specifically I wanted nail art. When I got there I was excited about the huge color selection!! But the minute I sat down it all went downhill. I told her the nail shape I wanted, told her I need the acrylic to be slightly thicker because I'm hard on my nails because I'm a bartender, she looked at me and then just continued doing what she was and showed her some very basic nail art, where she kept saying she can't do unless I used colored acrylic (that's a full blown lie) no matter what I asked her to do she said no. So I settled on just a colored French tip, she only put one coats of the natural color, it was extremely uneven, when I said that she once again ignored me. She did the same with the colored tip, uneven and chunky. She could not have cared less...whether I was happy or not, she charged me $65 and I tipped 20. I left just simply hating the whole experience. within 5 days my nails were lifting and 2 had completely broken. I don't the techs name, but it was bad enough experience for me to NEVER go back there, even if I got a better tech. I am always pleased with the quality of work that the staff here does for me. They are, in my opinion, the best nail salon in Seattle. The prices are spot on for the services they provide. The staff is always friendly and I am seen in a very timely manner even though I never have an appointment. It's always bustling and lively and smells amazing which is rare for a nail salon. I will never go anywhere else! Side note, this is the only place I have found that does liquid gel and not just acrylic. She ran the water for me to soak my feet and decided to go to the restroom without saying anything. I sat there waited a few minutes and she finally came back. Then she would ask me the normal questions what kind of pedicure I wanted and what kind of drink I would like from there're menu. I reply like usual water please and a classic pedicure. She gave me the water and then in the middle of getting painting my nails. She turned to her coworker on the right and said in Vietnamese why this customer is not chatting to me and being stuck up. After painting her toes I have to do her finger nails too. Do you want to do it? I pretend to not understand and sat there looking at my phone. It was so unbelievable how Zoey spoke about me her customer like that to her coworker while I was in front of them. The whole entire time I was just sitting, relaxing on the massage chair, and minding my own business on my phone while letting her do her job. I am neither her friend nor do I know her, so if I was not chatting up a storm like some of the other customer do doesn't mean anything. Why would she say such things? Besides that she gave me a horrible shellac paint job. It is already starting to peel off and it's only been a few days. Normally my shellac nails would look good for 1-2 weeks. As for the owners, please train your employees that it is not nice to talk about your customer in front of their face or at least have the common sense and decency to verify that the customer doesn't understand Vietnamese. I was even happier to see how seriously they're taking COVID precautions when I went in for a long awaited pedicure on 06/15. Someone was waiting at the door with a pump of hand sanitizer, then handed me a pen to fill out a COVID precaution form. They took my temperature. I bring in pictures of my next ideas and let her take over. My job ruins my nails so i have acrylic over my nails and usually gel on top of that. That was due to their suggestion and my nails are bullet proof! I've also gotten regular polish, both out last my fill. I get at least 3 compliments a day on my nails. I refer them all to NK Nails & Mary. Very clean, friendly, accommodating & icing on the cake free refreshments. Pedicures are amazing and very reasonably priced. While yes, some techs quality can be inconsistent here -- I just had a great experience here and want to share. I tried taking my 4.5yo daughter to City Nail Salon and was treated HORRIBLY. Like, picked her up and left halfway through the pedicure, horrible. I've been going to NK for about 2 years occasionally, and usually have been happy, so we went there to try to fix this special treat experience for my kiddo.
