Came in for the first time as a walk in. I wanted a gel polish manicure. The owner said to sit down…read moreand she would start the acetone soak. She barely filed the gel to allow the acetone to get in, then had me wait for a bit with the little plastic finger covers on. I was then told to pick my color, with the funky plastic things on, and if I needed to open the bottles (as some of them you couldn't actually tell what the color was from the outside of the bottle) to see the color I could, which made it hard to do. She told me that I would have to pay $10 extra to remove the current gel since they weren't the ones to do it originally. Not really sure why that makes a difference since gel is gel and if they had done the application it would have been the same process. I was told the next time I came in it would only be $30, since she knew they were the ones to apply it. After a little while more of sitting, two other customers came in and took up her attention. Then one of the other techs started to try to scrape the gel off, but it wasn't really budging, so back to soaking in acetone with the plastic covers. She then got pulled into working with the other customers, and I was told to move stations to a third tech. She did a mediocre job, the sidewalls and cuticles have gel on them and are sloppy even after she cleaned the color up with acetone, and you can see where the gel thickness and color is a little uneven in spots. I didn't notice this at first as I didn't have my glasses on. When I got home I also noticed a couple spots that looked a little scuffed and matte where the topcoat wasn't applied correctly or didn't cure properly. Overall, while the prices are better than most of the other salons in the area, my experience wasn't great and I will not be returning.

I've accumulated my favorites, and a lot of them feel less like people providing a service and more like familiar neighborhood aunties/friends I haven't seen in a while. They will ooh and aah over whatever I happen to show up wearing, whether I'm actually dressed up or have rolled in looking hobo chic in sweats. New Hair color, fading hair color, eyeliner, eyeshadow, jewelry that is expensive or absolutely not expensive... somebody will notice it and hype me up. They also have no problem side-eyeing me when I disappear for weeks and eventually return with nails or toes that are WELL beyond their maintenance date. I get scolded for neglecting them, give my excuses about traveling, being busy or simply being too lazy/burnt out to care, and receive the appropriate sympathetic nods mixed with disappointment. Then we carry on. That familiarity is honestly one of my favorite things about coming here. Quality can depend quite a bit on which tech you get, though, especially for Gel-X and nail art. After this many years I know whose work suits me and who I prefer to book with. I've had some beautiful sets here that (I mocked up the design & bring a visual with me) strangers have literally stopped me to compliment, but I've also had sets with premature lifting and recently had a Gel-X extension pop completely off in under five days. So for anything more involved, I recommend finding a tech whose work you like and booking with them specifically. The owner and I are decidedly not each other's cup of tea, and after four years I generally prefer coming at times when she isn't there. I'll leave it at that. My affection for this place has always been much more about the techs(staff) themselves. So no, it isn't a salon I'd describe as flawless or perfectly consistent. But there are women here I genuinely adore seeing, they've done some wonderfully ridiculous colorful nails for me over the years, and there's something lovely about walking into your neighborhood nail salon after disappearing for a while and immediately being greeted with, essentially, "WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN? Older clients came in and joked about how long they'd been coming to the salon and how old they were now as the stylist reassured them that they had the hair of a 20 year old. I was amused by the authenticity of their exchange and the shared commitment to the good natured exaggerations. A couple even came in to bring Tram a care package while I was glued to my chair accumulating my metallic sheen. I happened to overhear that she was sick. While there, the man got a trim because why not? He was at their neighborhood joint. Vibe check: A+. I would sit here for hours again to bask in the rarity of a thriving local business with a loyal, friendly clientele. It was like peeking into a whole new story with which I had no connection, like watching a sitcom - but none of the characters were a-holes. After foiling up, I went next door to get a pedicure while I waited for my hair to process. The woman who gave me that service - sorry, I forgot her name, but she has a bob haircut - was kind and assuaged my anxiety about my unshaven legs. She asked me "why should we have to always keep shaven? Men don't". Valid point. Plus, she said that people often shave before coming in and the pedicure process can actually can irritate their skin. Good to know. The pedicure was great. They talked me into getting my nails buffed and a simple shoulder massage as well. That wasn't the best service, to be honest (it was not the same woman who gave me the pedicure). I know they were just hoping to upsell me because it was a slow day. I get that. I wish I hadn't paid so much for it, but that's ok. It was clearly a pamper day for me. Back to the hair salon side I went. Jessica toned, washed, blew dry, and styled my hair in a surprisingly short period of time - or maybe it just seemed that way since I'd been there so long. Her swift work didn't yield sloppy results though. My hair was smooth, slightly curled, and far more presentable than I usually appear. She asked me where I was going now that I looked so lovely. "I told my friend I would watch her dogs", I responded. "What?? You should be going out!" she said before acknowledging that I was right about the dogs not being left alone too long and joked about how pretty I would be for them.
