Love this place! Bin was wonderful and squeezed me in for a pedi just as they were closing. She was super friendly and accommodating. The shop was completely Covid friendly. I got a basic pedi and it was a great deal. She even did a last minute wax touch up for me. Thank you, Bin!

Just like the other negative reviewers, I've been a loyal customer of California Nail Salon and come in regularly every two weeks. Every year, they close for a full month for vacation. So during the month they close, I have to find another salon. When I went to two other salons while California Nail Salon was closed for their yearly one month vacation, the other salons did not charge me any extras to remove my shellac. So, California Nail Salon reopened after returning from their month long closure, and I was happy to return. What pissed me off is that they charged me an extra $10.00 for my shellac removal "because I went elsewhere". If you weren't closed for so long I wouldn't have gone elsewhere! This really pissed me off, as I'm a loyal and happy customer for so long. What also angered me was their inconsiderate and rude response to me. Basically saying it takes time to remove other salon's shellac, and they don't care how other salon's run their business, and they are not going to remove other people's product for free. If California Nail Salon didn't close for so long, I would not have gone elsewhere! This is not the way you treat your paying, loyal customers. The other salons I went to did not charge me extra for the removal. I will never go back again, and make sure all my friends know that this salon does not value their loyal customers at all! Plus, they raised their prices when they came back from vacation. You don't treat your loyal paying customers this way. So rude with attitude. It's really too bad, because they actually do decent nail work.

The awesome complimentary GASH I got on my cuticle - and this is 4 days later!!

I would have loved to given this nail salon 5 stars based on my pedicure experience. But I happened to also get pink & white acrylic's which unfortunately ruined the whole awesome pedicure experience. So I'm not too entirely picky when it comes to acrylics - I have two basic rules: Please get the tips straight, and don't make me bleed. California Nails gets 0 out of 2 right. When the lady was applying the tips to my nails, she angled them to be facing inwards, on both sides... really strange. So I politely started to ask if she wouldn't mind straightening them (before the acrylic went on) and she interrupted me before I could finish and said 'not yet, later'. I gave her benefit of the doubt and thought maybe it was just a guide for the white acrylic, and she would straighten them upon applying the white. Nope. Fast-forward and the pink & white acrylics are on - still crooked. What she said she would fix 'later' was the slanted edges of the tips - didn't help the fact that the tips were on crooked to begin with. The WORST part of the whole experience was how badly she nicked me not once, but TWO times. My cuticle started bleeding, and wouldn't stop. She asked me to go wash my hands, so I did - and had to hold a paper towel to my cuticle to get it to stop bleeding. I held it there for a couple minutes and went back for her to apply top coat - and it was STILL bleeding. So she whipped out a mysterious green bottle and dropped it on my cut - OW. I asked her what it was, and she said 'liquid antiseptic'. She didn't even ask if I would like to have that stuff applied. It makes me weary putting any kind of unknown liquid on an open wound - i would have preferred to put bactine & neosporin on my own cut later. A week later and you can still see the scab on my cuticle - looks pretty cute with my crooked acrylics. Also, fellow Yelpers, there's this thing called fungus. It grows in between the gaps in your acrylics when the tips aren't fully glued to your nails. Google 'bad acrylics' and you can read all about it. Not saying I developed any, but 8 out of 10 of my nails were separated from my nail bed. So if you looked down at it, you can see a gap where dirt and other fun goop has collected because they are not glued down properly. NOT COOL. Almost all of the 5 star reviews below me are based on their pedicures. I too, had an amazing shellac pedicure, and might even go back JUST for that. But if you are looking for a full set - please do NOT expose your virgin nails to this place.

Let's start with how clean she keeps her shop. Thank you Binh ! She gives the BEST pedicure I've ever had. That's why I keep coming back over the past 8 years. Binh is amazing at what she does. Don't let her quietness be mistaken as rude .... she pays close attention to detail & takes her time which is the most important to me. I personally don't come to the nail shop for conversation. :) I use to get shellac coming to her shop but recently switched to acrylics. Which she doesn't offer :( ... literature only downfall. I loved her shellac mani. Again, detail detail detail & the massage is an added bonus . Happy feet here :) thanks California Nails (Binh)

Lackluster manicure. Ridges clearly visible where paint was applied unevenly.

They apply alcohol directly to your fingers... big NO in my book. My hands felt so dry after my manicure. I found it odd that ALL of the polishes to choose from on the display wall were completely full... a big warning sign that they mix their nail polish with acetone to cut down on costs... not to mention that doing this will cause your polish to chip faster. They even added acetone to the nail polish bottle directly in front of me during my manicure! The nail polish colors to choose from weren't that great... nothing trendy. I had a hard time finding one that I actually liked, and eventually settled on a tired pink color. :/ Thr final results were lackluster to say the least. The gal that applied the polish made several bubbles in the paint, which she attempted to fix, but it was still obvious to me. There were also clear ridges on each finger, where paint was not evenly applied. Overall, I think their "schtick" is the longer massages, but every other aspect of the service is passable to sub-par. I give them 2 stars bc the front desk guy and the lady that did my pedicure were nice.

I took my girl here for her to get her nails did. Small shop but the husband wife owners are very friendly. They have a solid collection of different colors and an ample supply of shellac, whatever that is. Price is very reasonable. Comes with a massage. Had I known I might have gotten one too. Idk. Man stuff. She liked it. My only issue would be it was stuffy in there. Which they had the AC going.

Gel Mani + bonus treats from the nail tech as I was leaving

I've accumulated my favorites, and a lot of them feel less like people providing a service and more like familiar neighborhood aunties/friends I haven't seen in a while. They will ooh and aah over whatever I happen to show up wearing, whether I'm actually dressed up or have rolled in looking hobo chic in sweats. New Hair color, fading hair color, eyeliner, eyeshadow, jewelry that is expensive or absolutely not expensive... somebody will notice it and hype me up. They also have no problem side-eyeing me when I disappear for weeks and eventually return with nails or toes that are WELL beyond their maintenance date. I get scolded for neglecting them, give my excuses about traveling, being busy or simply being too lazy/burnt out to care, and receive the appropriate sympathetic nods mixed with disappointment. Then we carry on. That familiarity is honestly one of my favorite things about coming here. Quality can depend quite a bit on which tech you get, though, especially for Gel-X and nail art. After this many years I know whose work suits me and who I prefer to book with. I've had some beautiful sets here that (I mocked up the design & bring a visual with me) strangers have literally stopped me to compliment, but I've also had sets with premature lifting and recently had a Gel-X extension pop completely off in under five days. So for anything more involved, I recommend finding a tech whose work you like and booking with them specifically. The owner and I are decidedly not each other's cup of tea, and after four years I generally prefer coming at times when she isn't there. I'll leave it at that. My affection for this place has always been much more about the techs(staff) themselves. So no, it isn't a salon I'd describe as flawless or perfectly consistent. But there are women here I genuinely adore seeing, they've done some wonderfully ridiculous colorful nails for me over the years, and there's something lovely about walking into your neighborhood nail salon after disappearing for a while and immediately being greeted with, essentially, "WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN? I missed you!! And look at your nails!"

I was drowsy, so she got me a cup of jasmine green tea. While I sat there, I got to enjoy the comings and goings on the salon. Regulars trickled in for cuts and conversation. I got to see three children get their hair cut in that time frame. All of them seemed comfortable in the hands of their stylist - and they were all eagerly anticipating the complimentary treats that followed. Older clients came in and joked about how long they'd been coming to the salon and how old they were now as the stylist reassured them that they had the hair of a 20 year old. I was amused by the authenticity of their exchange and the shared commitment to the good natured exaggerations. A couple even came in to bring Tram a care package while I was glued to my chair accumulating my metallic sheen. I happened to overhear that she was sick. While there, the man got a trim because why not? He was at their neighborhood joint. Vibe check: A+. I would sit here for hours again to bask in the rarity of a thriving local business with a loyal, friendly clientele. It was like peeking into a whole new story with which I had no connection, like watching a sitcom - but none of the characters were a-holes. After foiling up, I went next door to get a pedicure while I waited for my hair to process. The woman who gave me that service - sorry, I forgot her name, but she has a bob haircut - was kind and assuaged my anxiety about my unshaven legs. She asked me "why should we have to always keep shaven? Men don't". Valid point. Plus, she said that people often shave before coming in and the pedicure process can actually can irritate their skin. Good to know. The pedicure was great. They talked me into getting my nails buffed and a simple shoulder massage as well. That wasn't the best service, to be honest (it was not the same woman who gave me the pedicure). I know they were just hoping to upsell me because it was a slow day. I get that. I wish I hadn't paid so much for it, but that's ok. It was clearly a pamper day for me. Back to the hair salon side I went. Jessica toned, washed, blew dry, and styled my hair in a surprisingly short period of time - or maybe it just seemed that way since I'd been there so long. Her swift work didn't yield sloppy results though. My hair was smooth, slightly curled, and far more presentable than I usually appear. She asked me where I was going now that I looked so lovely. "I told my friend I would watch her dogs", I responded. "What?? You should be going out!" she said before acknowledging that I was right about the dogs not being left alone too long and joked about how pretty I would be for them. Then I paid and headed out, letting her get to the next client who walked in. The dogs did not seem to appreciate the hours and dollars that I had dedicated to grooming, by the way. Guess that's juhow it is when you're around creatures that are naturally cute.
