I made an appointment here because my normal place was booked and I figured I'd give a new place a shot. What a mistake. The nail tech did a sloppy job and was cold and curt. I did not leave a generous tip because she was so rude. So then she looks at the receipt and mutters something in her language to the tech that did my pedicure (which was fine). Apparently she doesn't understand the concept that tips are to be earned based on a job well done and customer service. The picture I included is what every nail looks like. Customer service: 2/5 Nails: 1/5 Price: moderate Madison nails is my moms favorite nail shop so I decided to go here instead of my go-to nail shop. First, their customer service is not great. The lady who did my nails, Candy, was not friendly at all. Everytime I asked a question or told her to fix the shape of my nails, she would give me an attitude. Second, my nails were not shaped the way I wanted (squared/sharp) no matter how many times I kept telling her. My nails were thick and lumpy and the owner told me it was because of the color I chose and my nails were naturally lumpy?? However, I always get nude/pink colors and my nails never turned out like this. I asked for a fake nail on my ring finger since my nail broke and the lady owner applied it super thick and did not match my natural nails at all. She didn't even care to file the side or clean up the skin around. + my mom was also unhappy with her nails. The prices here are a little more expensive than what I'm used to. They charged $10 for removal of shellac, $5 for the extra nail and $27 for a shellac mani. For 2 manis and 1 pedi, we paid about $120 w/ tip. I would recommend Sola nails in burien instead. It gets a little crowded and some staff are a bit inexperienced First time coming here, it was pretty great. The staff is super friendly and since it's a large space, we got in without a reservation. My toes were well cared for and my pedicure lasted a long time. Came back for some new colors, perhaps it was the type of polish I selected but the finished product was not smooth at all. It was clumpy and looked like a home job. Not sure if it's the polish type or perhaps it's too old? On top of that, my station, the pedicure machine was broken and the staff struggled with it quite a bit. Service was friendly still however, it couldn't make up for the disappointing nails. I expected smoother and prettier result for the price we paid. They also need to dust a bit more, it was not the most clean, but I've seen worse. When my usual technician is gone, I realize how much I value her great work! Trinh is my technician of choice. She routinely provides excellent waxing and nail treatment. Decor and cleanliness remains excellent each visit. So why did I drop a star?... Not all excellence is found in each technician. Customer service remains great, but technique varies. Loan, offers great nail service so I will keep coming back to work with her while Trinh is on holiday. Waxing provided by another technician was below par so my search will be elsewhere until Trinh returns. read more

So I ask for a price list and she tells me they don't have one, but then asks if I have cash for a tip. Uhhh really? How rude is that for you to ask me for a tip??? And if I don't, then what? Of course I was giving a tip, even with all your hidden charges you fail to tell anyone about. Then not even 3 hours after my nails were done, they're already chipping. I've been going to this nail salon for the past 2 years now since it's close to home but after today I don't think I can go there. I got my nails done last Friday July 1st and my left thumb already chipped and came off, I remember that day too they were super busy and I felt like Mimi (the one who did my nails) was rushing and in a hurry and not taking her time like she usually does. I come in there on July 5th (only 4 days after I got it filled) hoping they can fix it, granted it was a little busy in there, but they were all so rude and short with me and didn't even bother asking me to come in later, they just said they are busy! Some reasons why: -Over twelve massage chairs and lots of staff on hand -Clean spot with very professional, friendly staff in turquoise uniforms -great selection of colors, polishes to choose from -No staff side-chatter makes for a quiet, relaxing experience with hushed voices -tea, water and great magazines -Great prices. Not the lowest in town, but for this level of service it is, hands down! After being scared away from another nail salon due to poor hygiene practices and middling customer service, Yelp leaves a trail of breadcrumbs to another great business worth frequenting (and Yelping) about. read more

I just had a great experience here. I brought my kids (9 and 12) for manicures and the people working there were so nice! I was able to get same day appointments. They didn't even blink at me bringing my non-binary (boy-presenting) child and treated them with so much respect! The nails looked great and they even made special little flowers and hearts. Unfortunately I suffer from really dry heels (despite repeated lotion use at home) and haven't had an issue going to a nail salon until three weeks ago when I went here. The technician said she can't work on my heels since they're too dry--no rubbing with a loofah nothing. She said I just need to use lotion at home to fix them. Then I politely ask if I could put my sandals on when she was putting the polish on since it seemed busy and she said they don't do that. However five minutes later she forced me to put my sandals on since they needed my chair ruining the polish on both of my big toe nails. She then quickly tried to fix by painting it over with a bump still there. When I protested, the lady at the front desk kindly came and stripped the polish off and reapplied. I guess my technician was rushing to make her next appointment despite the fact that I also had an appointment. Awful experience for the $28 pedicure--would recommend Hoa Salon instead nearby. I went there three weeks later and the technician kindly worked on my heels with a foot rasp and five minutes later they're smooth. read more

Amazing!!! I got my nails done out of state and broke one and came in to see if they could repair it. They didn't have the same color but my technician redid my acrylic and dip powder on the nail, and then did some shellac polish to match the color. It looks perfect!! And she only charged me $10 for an acrylic cut down! Love love love read more

I have gone here serval times before since I've moved to the neighborhood. Raved about it to a friend so we stopped in to get pedicures. After my nails were completed I noticed that my entire nail was not painted to the nail hub and some of those nails were even crooked on where the nail polish started. I politely asked her to fix the few nails that were done improperly and she painted several other coats over those nails giving them a darker tone in polish while others remained a lighter hue. At the end of the service I was so dissatisfied I didn't leave a tip and I feel that I made a mistake in paying for the service provided. I won't be going there again. read more

I have gone here for many years before and have had good experiences but I came around a week ago and will not be coming back. I got a full set of acrylics and a pedicure. The pedicure was great but a little over priced for what you receive. Now where is goes down hill is when I ask for the full set of acrylics. I have never gotten acrylics before but I have conmen sense. They charge for 55 for just the extensions nothing else and When I asked for French tips the nail tech said it would 75$ without gel and the nails were super short. In my opinion I felt I was being taken advantage of because that price is ridiculous. The nails I ended up getting were 60 with regular polish. Which is very expensive and not worth it for how they look. The first week they looked fine but now the first few days of the second week they don't look good at all. This experience has really ruined my opinion on the salon so I don't think I will be coming back with these ridiculous prices and the nails you recieve here. read more

But Madison Nail Spa has fallen victim to what so many others do: too much success. The spot was once undiscovered, and the service flawless, but now that plenty of others have discovered how great it has been... its become... tired... Over-trafficked...On the decline. A similar thing happened to HOA (up the street) years ago. The over-crowding and over-success of HOA is what drove me to Madison Nail spa in the first place. Now its happening again. A manicure usually stays chip-free at least 1/2 a week, a Shellac manicure usually lasts two weeks, a good pedicure an equal amount of time.. yet lately it seems the application here just doesnt hold up. They are incredibly nice and conveinent, but sadly they are over-worked. Im on the lookout for a new shop. read more

I live just 2 blocks from both HOA and Madison Ave Nails. For a few months I've been trying to decide which I prefer. Here is the run down. HOA has a nicer atmosphere, but the cost is a little more and I've found the service to be a little snooty. Madison Ave is a very no frills atmosphere. In fact, it's pretty clinical. That said, it's very clean. The staff if very nice and try hard to serve. It's also a little more affordable. Special note regarding manicures: If you don't care for polish on your figures ask for a "buff." They do a regular manicure, but instead of polish they take a Dremel tool and actually buff your nails to a nice polish! It's lovely. After trying all the nail salons in the Mad Valley / Park neighborhood. This is my choice. read more

What a great find! Just moved to the area and popped in here for a badly needed pedicure on a Friday morning around 9:30. The place was empty so I was seated right away. The place is not spotless, but the chairs are in great shape and it was clean. Women were super nice and offered me a drink and a warm rice neck pad which I gladly accepted. The service was really great, awesome massage and resulted in perfect nails! Price was on par with most salons. More people trickled in around 10am, many in pairs and we're accommodated quickly. I've been here a couple of times over a span of 2 years now and I find that the service and general quality have gone down tremendously. Yes, this place is convenient and yes they offer some perks - hot tea and massages with mani or pedi for instance. However, I will NEVER return here again for 2 reasons: 1) Dirty Tools Long story short, I caught a fungus on my big toe. I had gotten a pedicure here prior to a trip and noticed that my toe was itchy. On the trip, my toe started looking bruised and after consulting a doctor, they determined that it was probably bacteria from unsanitary tools. Pretty sure this was due to the technician's laziness in not properly sanitizing the tools between clients. Gross. 2) Technicians Demanding a Tip. I'm pretty sure demanding cash for a tip/ demanding a tip in general isn't the most courteous thing to ask a customer. It seems they have expected/demanded a tip the last few times I have gone there. I just think this is so rude! Of course I will leave a tip, but I shouldn't be harrased for one! So yeah, that has been my experience. I would much rather save my money and go to a nail place that is more sanitary/classier than take my chances at this place! read more

So I came in as a walk in and immediately was stared down, I'm assuming because I'm a colored woman. I am always really nice and polite anywhere I go (my mother taught me well) anyway I asked if they had availability for a pedicure and they said yes. They walk me over to the pedi chair and as im taking my shoes off they're walking another lady(white) to the chair next to me. I sit down and realize they don't have the plastic around the pedi bowl So I sit there and just wait for my lady to begin with me. As I'm sitting there, the white lady next to me gets asked if she wants water or anything to drink and they also give her a menu of the different kind of pedicures they have. Im still waiting for like 10 minutes. The lady start on my feet and never once asked me if I was thirsty or even gave me a pedi menu. I had to ask them for the menu and when I picked the most expensive one (because I wanted a longer massage) they had to reassure me the price SMH. Like, I didn't ask for the price and I already knew the price because it's on the menu. Anyway, I'm not returning to this place. I'm pretty sure if I was white I would've had a better experience. read more

Staff was exceptionally friendly and atmosphere was ambient. Nail spa was clean, spacious, and serene. Pedicure included exfoliate scrub with calf and foot massage. Pedicure chair had standard built in massage functions, but included reclining adjustments into many comfortable various positions. Manicure included shoulder, neck, entire arm, and hand massage. Requested pink and white nails; perfect outcome! Eyebrows were arched specifically to my criteria without errors. Overall, I was extremely satisfied and would highly recommend to others! read more

It was SO busy on a Saturday, I think I will avoid the peak times for sure. However, I got the mani/pedi with my girlfriend and the lady did a decent job on my manicure. However, the buffing on my feet was very superficial. We called ahead to get an appt but we still had to wait til 15-20minutes after said appt time to sit for our pedicures. This place really is hit and miss. It depends on who you get. I had a great pedicure, but my manicure this time is a disaster. I could have done a better job myself and will be removing the polish and doing just that after being out $15 and an hour for the privilege. I guess I need to start making appointments and request who I know is good and avoiding the one gal who I know (after 2 bad manicures) clearly is not. I had such a bad experience with Madison Nails that I actually walked out mid-pedicure. Here's what happened. I walked in on a particularly busy day to get a manicure/pedicure. They were friendly and accommodating as usual--offering to get my manicure done 1st (they usually try to do services simultaneously) while I waited for a pedi chair to open up. When it was my turn for the pedi, I picked out a color (one I have used many times in the past) and walked back to the waiting technician. She guided me to step into the water basin even through it was just getting filled and when I did I noticed that the water is was ice cold. I told her this and she grumbled but switched on the hot water. Not a great started. I handed her the polish and she proceeded to tell me "this color is $5 more." She also noted something about how it lasted a week instead of 2 days--which was odd because I don't know anyone who gets pedicures every 2 days and I had used the same color before with almost a month between services. I asked her if I had grabbed a shellac bottle by mistake and she said no. I told her I have been getting this color off and on for a while and never had an extra charge and she repeated the same line about how it lasts a week. She then offered to find the same color in another brand which I agreed to. By this time, I was starting to get a strong feeling that she was not happy with me for questioning the extra charge and this became pretty clear when she started to do my pedi. She was extremely rough with my feet--pulling and pushing them too forcefully. When she was cutting my nails, I had to pull my foot way because she cut the skin on one of my toes instead of the nail she was supposed to be clipping. She completely skipped the exfoliation and rushed onto give me what I can only describe as the weirdest massage I have ever gotten. She actually scratched up and down my leg with her nails and tickled my ankles. I was really startled by this and actually pulled my foot away again because it was just off putting and a bit creepy. She then walked away and came back with the original color I had picked and 2 other colors that looked nothing like it. I asked if I could just pick another color and proceeded to get another speech about the special $5 magical color. At this point, I was really worn down and just wanted to get the service done and get out of there so I agreed to use it and pay to $5. I asked if this was on the shelf will all other bottles, how I would have been able to tell that is was a different price? She then repeated the same spiel about the extra days, lectured me on how she can't control where things go, and then walked away. When she came back, she started to put the toe separators on pulling my toes and pushing it between them so forcefully that is hurt while continuing to lecture me on I can't even remember at this point. I had enough and told her we were done and I just wanted to pay and get out of there. I asked to speak to the manager and low and behold she claimed to be the manager and continued to lecture me while I walked to the front desk to pay for what I did get completed. As I was paying she just continued to go on and on until I finally said look I agreed to pay the extra charge even though I did not think it was right that you didn't specify this somewhere upfront but at this point I just wanted to pay and get out of there. The lecturing continued until I had to say can you please just give me my card and receipt so I can leave multiple times. I have been coming to this salon almost faithfully for the past 4 years. I have even had service from the same woman. But I watched it deteriorate from a nice place with really high quality services to a chop shop with questionable customer service. Needless to say, my loyalty has not paid off and I will be going elsewhere from now on. read more

My nail technician layered the polish so think on my nails that they almost looked unnatural -- this is just regular polish! No one in our party was happy with the quality of work done here. I usually go to Hoa Salon a little further down on Madison, but I decided to run into Madison Ave Nails on a whim after picking up some plants (that I'll probably end up killing) at City Peoples across the street. It was $40 for my manicure and pedicure, and they did a fantastic job. They're very meticulous, my fingers and toes look fabulous, and the girls who helped me were very friendly. The salon is quite spacious, and the large windows give the place a lot of light. Although I bring my own nail polish, the salon has a good selection of OPI and China Glaze colors to choose from. I've already been back twice, each time without appointments, and they've been able to start my mani and/or pedi without much of a wait. (However, I've only been on weekday afternoons, so YMMV). Madison Avenue Nail Spa is my current go-to pedicure place. It's in the neighborhood, reasonably priced, clean and the service is efficient. At $25 for a pedicure, the prices are reasonable for the neighborhood (you can get cheaper in the U-District, for example). As noted by some other Yelpers, they have two kiddie pedicure chairs with DVD players. They are shaped like animals and creeped me out completely when I first saw them. The last time I was there, a girl was in one of the chairs and seemed to be having a good time and her Madison Park mom was letting her get black on one foot and silver on the other, and I have since changed my tune. I'm still slightly afraid of chairs promoting pedicures for children, but then, I like the experience of getting a pedicure, so who am I to judge? read more

Went there because I needed a fill and I was killing time while the kid I babysit was at tennis practice. I'm always hesitant to try new places, but I'm super busy and didn't want a nail to pop off before the weekend. The lady hardly spoke to me about what I wanted. I had to correct her nail filing because it wasn't that great. She burned me quite a few times, and drilled my cuticles off on some fingers. Then rubbed her nails into that area when trying to rub excess nail polish off and I had to tell her to stop. She almost let me go without putting on a topcoat- I had to request it. Some nails were lifting and she just looked at them puzzled until I said "You should probably clip those off: She didn't seem like she really knew what she was doing. Hubby told me to get out and get a pedicure - he'd watch the kids. I ran for the door and picked someplace randomly. I hit the jackpot. This place was wonderful! I got a great looking pedicure at a very reasonable price - and a foot/leg massage that almost made me pass out from sheer joy. I was in heaven. The workers were friendly, even adjusting my massage chair for ultimate relaxation. My toes look cute and I am refreshed and ready to chase toddlers again. I would like to start by saying that no salon service should ever make the customer bleed. My usual salon was closed so I had to find another. Based on rating I chose this place. Came in for my set of acrylic nails to be filled. The staff was quick to set me up but, I didn't expect the service to be rushed too. The technician, Mimi, seemed to have much better things to do and constantly focused on other technicians and customers. I expect a nick here and there when the acrylic is sanded but I got more than that. Left with three nails bleeding and skin sanded off the under side of my pinkie. No where near the nail. I have never wanted out of a chair so fast. I figured the least she could do is paint my nails proper but, again disappointment. Half my nails barely have a decent coat and the other half have enough for the rest and then some. If you want some real care to your nails, I suggest heading to MC Nails up the street. If you don't want your fingers, I wouldn't be surprised if they took them off for you here. read more

I thought I'd found a friend in Polished but the high prices and lack of comfortable pedicure chairs had me doubting myself when we went to choose a nail salon for pre-wedding primping. I'm SO glad I decided to make the change... and now I'll never go anywhere else. The location is ideal for me - it's just a few minutes drive and I usually know where to find easy parking in the area. Everything seemed very clean and efficient; the massage chairs are great (especially the cute little kid ones!). The service was average but the skill is fantastic.
