7. Satay Gai
Ranjini S.

A little Thai restaurant in the heart of the VCU campus. We went there for dinner before a show at the Altria Theater. The staff were really friendly and the food was nicely plated. The chicken satay was great. The dumplings were alright, but I really liked the crispy rolls. My friend ordered Thai fried rice with beef, which was really flavorful and packed some heat (she got it medium spicy). We went there really early on a Sunday evening and the place was empty, but it was a pleasant surprise for a small restaurant.

Thai Iced Tea

I've been really on a sweet treat craving lately and so I decided to try this place out since its literally right next to where I live. As always I had to get the mango and sticky rice with the thai iced tea on the side. The waitress was really quick with taking care of us and there was even music in the restaurant which hyped me up for my sweet treat run. We got our thai iced tea first and it came in this really long cup but the thai tea was nice and sweet. It was great because it was 97 degrees outside so it definitely kept me nice and cool for the day. The mango sticky rice threw me off when it came out. The rice honestly looked like a sad block of soap and the mango portions looked small on the plate but I thought to myself maybe looks can be deceiving. I can say confidently that the mango was actually really sweet and was the best thing about the dish. The rice on the other hand did not impress me at all. There was barely any coconut milk on top and the rice was a little too hard for my taste. I don't know if I would come back here immediately but it definitely works as a last minute craving option if your really feeling the need for mango sticky rice.

Got delivery from this place a couple weeks ago on a Thursday night. It did come almost 30min late, they were probably really busy that night so I understand some of it. The drunken noodle was really spicy, good flavor, could have had more pork. The Crispy Duck with Chili Sauce was a really cool idea, duck was still crispy, but more fat on the slices than meat, and overall it felt like very little duck for the price ($17) especially after just getting duck dishes from other places. The food was fine, would be willing to try again.

Was this the best Thai food I've ever had? No, but did it come in clutch on a rainy day? Yes. Absolutely! Will defo be getting takeout again!!

1)Satay chix stix & Thai fried rice

The fresh rolls were awful! 1 shrimp halved, 1 sliver of carrot, 1 sliver of cucumber, a couple of noodles and the whole rest of the roll is Iceberg lettuce which tasted like soap and mud. Every Thai place makes these rolls with loads of vermicelli noodles, ample carrots, Thai basil and at least 2 shrimp each roll. There was one shrimp cut in half for each roll. Just awful &went in the trash!! Don't buy them. Also, the Thai fried rice was white rice with almost no stir fry or Thai seasoning as hoped based on the name. It was mildly warm and bland. Very disappointed in these 2 items- which are key items in Thai food. Everything else was tasty and delicious. Not likely I'll ever get food from them again that first impression was awful. Just bc they are next to the college, they must think it's OK to cook below par food for customers. Don't even bother going here.

OMG!!!! I was looking for the Old Elephant Thai Restaurant. I was disappointed this wasn't it until I got my food home. I ordered the drunken noodles for my son. He said he didn't want it, so I ate it. It was a much better option than the vegetable curry dish I ordered. It was spicy like I like it and it had all the veggies I LOVE!!! It had broccoli, cabbage and so much more. I'm definitely coming back. The waitress was extremely friendly. She made up for the difficulty I had finding the restaurant. Park in the back but it was definitely worth it.

Taro Milk Bubble Tea

ordered delivery- I got Pad Thai with tofu and a taro milk tea and was really disappointed with what I got, I spent time looking for a Thai place that seemed to have good reviews and vegan food so I expected this to be great , the tarp milk tea was okay, not the best, but the worst was that the boba was (underdone?) and hard I almost choked on it, and it wasn't just one or two pearls- it was all of them. The Pad Thai was okay, but it just didn't taste fresh, or really worth how much it was- my order was $30 total and I really wanted to ask for a refund- I was excited to try this place but maybe it will be better another day. But for now not worth the money you have to pay.

Spicy Salmon Roll was very Spicy...and good.

We happened to be in the area and decided to try this place out. 1) Place was clean welcoming. We were quickly sat down and attended to. 2) Waitress was friendly and attentive. Place is small and has a very wide variety of choices on the menu. This makes it slow if you have a large party and all order different types of foods. Have patience, the food is delicious. If you don't like waiting very long and have a large party I recommend you all order similar dishes so that they come out together. 3) Food tasted very good. Chicken Pho was good, Thai Ice Tea was good, spicy salmon roll was good, and Spicy Eggplant as delicious. Overall I would come back to this place in the future; however, I would avoid coming with a big party because it takes forever for everyone to get their food. Please give them a try for yourself.

Pad Thai, no egg, w/Tofu. Vegan

I've just driven by here several times to alleviate my post-Sunday service hunger, that is oddly magnified over any other day. They're parking is in the rear, accessible through a driveway between buildings, just North on Belvidere. We really enjoyed our lunch. My vegan daughter enjoyed the veggie crispy rolls, as did I. I also enjoyed their shrimp stuffed South East Asian soft rolls. The ladies also loved their Chicken and tofu/no egg pad tai. I love that the server said just about anything can be made Vegan. (FRESH!) I opted for two delightful items on their appetizer menu which were of great $ value, IMO. The Crying Tiger, nicely prepared BBQ steak with a delicious sour/sweet sauce on a bed of lettuce, which I used as wraps. Their seafood salad was generous, and the tangy/spicy sauce on it absolutely made the dish. I'll be back to sample more!

Did you know "Trouvaille" in French means "find?" And not just "find," in the everyday use, but to…read morefind as if you are so fortunate! Well! Never has such a delightful eatery been so aptly named! Trouvaille is a glorious find indeed! Mind you, if you read my reviews you will see I know a bit about good cocktails and better food! So context: I was completely blown away by this little tucked away spot on Lombardy Street in Richmond's glorious Fan neighborhood. To begin: Top shelf alcohol, merged into glorious soothing cocktails expertly blended and presented as swanky as any NYC or SF bar! If you like an expertly blended Manhattan this is the place. Next time the old fashioned or anything frankly on the menu! For dinner: I had the gnocchi with fresh spring peas in a light cream sauce with the kind of tender savory chicken one dreams of. The whole thing was an imaginative yet comforting fusion of Japanese-Italian-American comfort food. Think: deconstructed chicken pot pie! Hubby had the short ribs which melted in my mouth alongside a perfectly crispy yet tender Japanese inspired (Korean?) rice cake next to perfectly unctuous kimchi!! Just amazing! I traveled the world in every bite! Umami perfection. But I skipped telling you about the appetizer of fresh spring salad with arugula, burrata, and just fresh everything. The dressing was a tiny but overpowering but totally tolerable because of the perfect tang and balance of creaminess. So good and the serving was beyond generous! We ordered delicious Homemade... like a truly homemade fresh loaf of bread arrived with perfectly not-too-sweet strawberry (what?) butter!! And save room for dessert! The oh so thin crepe cake with uh-mazing strawberry sauce and sweet (not too) crème was just light and pleasing. Again I could feel/taste the Japanese influence And then! An on the house chocolate pot de crepe had me swooning! This with our Malbec wine was like heaven on earth. Finally? The bill. So freaking reasonable! We spared no expense and had a bottle of wine! Nothing but pleasure here. The bill was a pleasure to pay! And I love thoughtful decor! I am happy to report: The vibe is incredibly cool, too. Think Gothic-minimalism meets the gilded age. Such a glam space but not in the least bit intimidating. I am in LOVE! Don't miss this place. I see Michelin stars in Joe the Chef's future. Mr. James Beard get to Trouvaille if you want to see the best of Richmond! You will not be disappointed.! We will be back for sure. Hope to see you there!

I've been seeing Ginza Soot but haven't tried it. My husband wanted ramen (we usually go to Takara) and we saw Ginza had ramen on the menu so we decided to try it. We ordered takeout: -Korean wings half regular and 1/2 spicy. They were just okay. Better Korean wings are available around town so I'd skip these next time. - Beef gyoza- reminded me of the frozen ones I buy from Lotte or Trader Joe's. They were okay but I didn't get the 'made in house' vibe from these. I've had better. Wouldn't order them again. - Pork tonkatsu ramen spicy. Granted it was takeout, but the package seems like it was assembled and stored in the fridge until someone ordered. The broth had to be heated up. It wasn't great. Wouldn't order it again. - general Tao's chicken spicy. This was way too sweet and not a hint of spiciness. The broccoli was overcooked. This is on par will mall Chinese food. Actually I've had better general Tso's at the mall kiosk. I bet the drinks and teas are good. For food, this one is not for me. This goes in the once and done column for me.

Not spicy hot, like blow on your food as you eat hot, so be careful. It was very flavorful though and I took some leftovers and reheated in the air fryer just fine. My husband tried a watermelon drink with a clear ball at the top that made for an interesting conversation. No, he didn't swallow it. Definitely try this place. It had many other things on the menu.
