It's nice and quaint little place. Service was fast and food came out in less time than I expected. Location is great. Parking around back makes it easy to get to. We stopped by for a quick take out dinner and got Chicken Pad Thai (hot) and Yellow Beef Curry (hot) and for the price, it was not the best in Richmond. We were in the area and the restaurants we wanted to go to were both closed. The service was great and the restaurant was clean; however, we found that the food was a bit bland. The Pad Thai was lacking in flavor but the food was spicy, which I liked. The curry was far too runny, but the flavor on this dish was more flavorful and full of coconut flavor - again, spicy which we enjoyed. I wish the curry was a bit thicker. Nonetheless, if you're looking for a quick fix and you're in the area, it is worth the try. The good news is that they do have a small parking area so you would not need to stress about street parking. read more

A little Thai restaurant in the heart of the VCU campus. We went there for dinner before a show at the Altria Theater. The staff were really friendly and the food was nicely plated. The chicken satay was great. The dumplings were alright, but I really liked the crispy rolls. My friend ordered Thai fried rice with beef, which was really flavorful and packed some heat (she got it medium spicy). Got delivery from this place a couple weeks ago on a Thursday night. It did come almost 30min late, they were probably really busy that night so I understand some of it. The drunken noodle was really spicy, good flavor, could have had more pork. The Crispy Duck with Chili Sauce was a really cool idea, duck was still crispy, but more fat on the slices than meat, and overall it felt like very little duck for the price ($17) especially after just getting duck dishes from other places. I've been really on a sweet treat craving lately and so I decided to try this place out since its literally right next to where I live. As always I had to get the mango and sticky rice with the thai iced tea on the side. The waitress was really quick with taking care of us and there was even music in the restaurant which hyped me up for my sweet treat run. We got our thai iced tea first and it came in this really long cup but the thai tea was nice and sweet. It was great because it was 97 degrees outside so it definitely kept me nice and cool for the day. The mango sticky rice threw me off when it came out. The rice honestly looked like a sad block of soap and the mango portions looked small on the plate but I thought to myself maybe looks can be deceiving. I can say confidently that the mango was actually really sweet and was the best thing about the dish. The rice on the other hand did not impress me at all. There was barely any coconut milk on top and the rice was a little too hard for my taste. I don't know if I would come back here immediately but it definitely works as a last minute craving option if your really feeling the need for mango sticky rice. read more

The worst "Thai" food i have had. I paid for the "premium" pork in garlic sauce. Yea the sauce was the consistency of water with no flavor. The dish had brocolli and carrots and chewy dry pork. The tom yum soup was salty as a bitch and had way too much fish sauce. It was mostly water. The steamed dumplings sucked just as bad as the rest of this slop. Tasty, fast and delicious! I stopped by Nisa Thai before a Broadway show at the Altria for a warm, delicious and quick lunch, and I got all of that! I was there at a weird time and was the only person in the restaurant, but even so my food came out extraordinarily quick! Which was great because I was hungry. Down side they were so fast that I had to hang in my car till the Altria doors opened! No biggie! I got the pad Thai with chicken, mild spicy, and it did not disappoint. Super tasty! So much so that I ordered some pad see ew and crispy rolls to take home for dinner after the show. One thing I will say is the portions are great, although maybe a tad small for the price? Not fully sure yet, because there was plenty of meat and egg in the noodles.... I did eat my whole plate of pad thai and was pleasantly full. While I was hanging out in my car waiting to go into the show I ended up dipping into the crispy spring rolls while they were still hot and fresh. No complaints. They were crispy and delicious. When I got home, I reheated the pad see ew and was surprised it kept its texture well! Sometimes the wide noodles can get a little gummy, but these stayed pretty normal. The fresh rolls were awful! 1 shrimp halved, 1 sliver of carrot, 1 sliver of cucumber, a couple of noodles and the whole rest of the roll is Iceberg lettuce which tasted like soap and mud. Every Thai place makes these rolls with loads of vermicelli noodles, ample carrots, Thai basil and at least 2 shrimp each roll. There was one shrimp cut in half for each roll. Just awful &went in the trash!! Don't buy them. Also, the Thai fried rice was white rice with almost no stir fry or Thai seasoning as hoped based on the name. It was mildly warm and bland. Very disappointed in these 2 items- which are key items in Thai food. Everything else was tasty and delicious. Not likely I'll ever get food from them again that first impression was awful. Just bc they are next to the college, they must think it's OK to cook below par food for customers. Don't even bother going here. read more

OMG!!!! I was looking for the Old Elephant Thai Restaurant. I was disappointed this wasn't it until I got my food home. I ordered the drunken noodles for my son. He said he didn't want it, so I ate it. It was a much better option than the vegetable curry dish I ordered. It was spicy like I like it and it had all the veggies I LOVE!!! I will happily come back here again in the future, however, I have now ordered takeout and dined in and can say the service seems to be a little lacking. When I ordered takeout, the hostess seemed to miss my order when it came through their computer system, so the food wasn't cooked until I arrived. The staff was very friendly and they began making my food immediately while I sat and waited for it. During our dine-in experience, our server was rather inattentive (forgetting to refill water glasses, not bringing small plates for appetizers) and wasn't particularly friendly. There was only one other patron in the restaurant at the time, so it wasn't as if they were terribly busy at the time. All in all, I would definitely say give it a try! I've just driven by here several times to alleviate my post-Sunday service hunger, that is oddly magnified over any other day. They're parking is in the rear, accessible through a driveway between buildings, just North on Belvidere. We really enjoyed our lunch. My vegan daughter enjoyed the veggie crispy rolls, as did I. I also enjoyed their shrimp stuffed South East Asian soft rolls. The ladies also loved their Chicken and tofu/no egg pad tai. I love that the server said just about anything can be made Vegan. (FRESH!) I opted for two delightful items on their appetizer menu which were of great $ value, IMO. The Crying Tiger, nicely prepared BBQ steak with a delicious sour/sweet sauce on a bed of lettuce, which I used as wraps. that what I said wasn't true. It was the worst show of customer service I had ever experienced. She refused to replace the dish with veggie pho instead or return my money. She offered to remake the massaman only to give me the EXACT same horribly put together dish. When I showed her at the restaurant what was wrong, she ridiculed me in another language and proudly said she wasn't giving me any rice to go with the massaman, and that she didn't care about me talking to the owner because she wouldn't be there much longer. It was absolutely terrible... and honestly embarrassing for Nisa Thai. I will not be back unless she's removed from that business. read more

My friend was willing to pay the same amount for a better dish, but the employee (probably apart of ownership) denied it and made a customer pay for something she did not even like. While everyone else got pad thai or the druken noodles, I ordered spicy eggplant and was very surprised at how delicious it tasted! The eggplant and red peppers were cooked roughly and had a good tender texture. The tofu was a little rough but the overall sauce was delicious: savory but with touch of sweetness and thai basal flavors as well as a kick of thai spices. Now, I am not usually one to order delivery through Grubhub and the like given the fees, and this was a perfect example of why I should have just gone to my preferred spot. I ended up paying $30 all in. I took one bite of the papaya salad, and it was...bad. It was a big turn off, actually. The flavor was not the sharp tangy, spicy level that I was craving and expecting. It was simply off-putting. Furthermore, the chicken and broccoli with the peanut sauce was bland. I ordered it knowing it was not the more common panang curry (that has coconut and is heavier), but I was not satisfied. The chicken was white meat which I liked but it lacked seasoning. I will say that the delivery order timing was amazing. Grubhub stated it would be an hour from order placement, and it ended up being only 30 minutes! I called and ordered Pineapple Fried Rice. I specifically asked if they put cashews, raisins, & pineapples in theirs. I was told yes to all except they do not have raisins. Well, I get home and there are no cashews and no pineapples. I called to report the issue and I was questioned rather than offering to make it right.
