The place came as a recommendation from a couple of friends and we have been to Nirvanaah a couple of times. We stay far from Sunnyvale, so we do not frequent it as much as we would like to. I think this place has a great selection of Indian flavored ice-creams. We have sampled a few and found them really good. Although what really brings us back is the "cut" kulfi. They do have kulfi in their display but I am not talking of that one. There is a kesar (saffron) kulfi that they serve which they cut into pieces for you! It is really good and I do recommend to definitely try it. read more

Such amazing variety of flavors! They gave free samples but there were so many names I couldn't even pronounce nor identify what I was eating. Ended up ordering the ones I could pronounce but never had in ice cream form before. The guava was so light and refreshing! The fig and walnut was mildly sweet and had a nice texture. My son and I stopped by a couple of months ago. I had read about this place on Yelp and it happened to be right around the area I was in. I noticed it driving down El Camino in Santa Clara, so I had to stop. The gentlemen were nice about letting us try many samples of the ice cream. Sometimes I would ask and they would suggest. It was nice getting a taste of the unique ice creams first before purchasing a scoop. I can't remember what I ended up getting, but it was good and my son enjoyed his ice cream as well. well, this sure was a nice little surprise. We went to Christmas in the Park this past weekend, and it was so packed, we decided after a half block, to go for ice cream instead. I looked up ice cream on yelp for the 1st available that was open late, and saw Nirvanaah...coming in with a solid 4 1/2 stars. I didn't even read the reviews. we just went. When we pulled up to the small shopping center, we were surprised that it was an Indian ice cream shop with Indian flavors. We were not expecting that...(should have read the reviews!!) lol, but we decided to give it a shot. Surprise Surprise! Delicious creaminess awaits you! They had over 30+ flavors, some run of the mill flavors like vanilla, chocolate, but some wonderful flavors you won't find elsewhere like Lychee, Rose water, Saffron, ferrero rocher & other Indian spices that I unfortunately cannot pronounce. They also had sundaes (but these were already set with what types of ice cream flavors.) A clean, well-lit place - to eat Indian and "Indian inspired" ice cream and frozen treats. It is definitely creamier and denser than American ice cream, if you like Wisconsin style frozen custard (which I love but cannot find around here) you will like it. Indian ice cream from what I've tasted is similar to Persian ice cream and uses some similar flavors. I was more excited for the kulfi until I realized what I was actually thinking about was faloodeh, which I believe you can only order as part of their mixed drinks. I liked the saffron pistachio flavor but as a pre-frozen treat (shaped into a wedge) it was a little icy and had to thaw. Not sure if that's how it's supposed to be eaten or if it had just been kept at too low at temperature. Still, it was tasty. There was a crowd on Saturday night but it wasn't overwhelming and the line moves quickly. The people working seemed happy and courteous and don't make you feel rushed. This is truly a gem in the bay area. Just when I thought there wasn't anything of gustatory delight to brag about in sili valley I stumble across Nirvanaah. I came in with a $10 living social deal and my brother and I got a sundae (strawberry mango) and a milkshake made after we tasted the cardamom ice cream. Oh devil. It was good. The nice ice-cream person gave us a taste of a bunch of the flavors, and we ended up going grade-school goofy over the rose petal flavor. OMG. So apparently i'll be enlightened by the end of this summer as I will be experiencing nirvanaah quite a bit. haha. The prices are more pricey than your typical baskin robbins, but you won't reach these heights anywhere else. Splurging when it's worth it is so so worth it. Enjoy! read more

Exotic flavors like rose, saffron, and lychee? Yes. Open till late? Yes. Delicious? Absolutely! This place is unique and so is their ice cream. It's hard for me to go back to vanilla with options like these. Give it a try and if you aren't feeling very adventurous, they also have many tried and true flavors as well. Only a point off here for not wiping down the tables. There is quite a bit of traffic on nights and weekends that it seems they get swamped and not enough attention is given to cleaning tables. Love going to the Bay area and getting my dose of Indian ice cream! I've had the kulfi falooda and kasaata here. Both really good. My only complaint is with their management...the line goes out of control and the staff is rude when handling customers because they are trying to get everyone through the line as fast as they can. Last time we walked in at like 9:45p and they had very little control over the line. Service could definitely be improved. read more

Came here for the first time yesterday. I always pass this place but never tried it. Cool name! -Nice, small clean interior. -Not much variety but for what they have available (half of which I can't pronounce) they ALL look very good! -I got the Kulfi Falooda topped with caramel. This was very good! A nice just right sweetness and creamy flavor. I also sampled the Chicco and that was very good too. WOW, and this place also has Tiramusu (my all time favorite dessert) and Butterscotch ice cream! Not too many ice cream places in general actually have Tiramusu and Butterscotch flavors so I was surprised! The gentleman who served us was friendly and quick. A friend raved about this place and so I had bookmarked it a while ago. I walked in with high expectations and although I wouldn't go out of my way to go here, I can understand the hype. If you are wanting more traditional flavors, I would recommend going somewhere else or even if you're looking for those new and popular "salted caramel" or "_____(insert alcohol) and ____(insert fruit)" there are better out there. BUT if you are wanting to try some interesting Indian flavor combinations then this is your spot. I appreciated that they were patient with my questions of "what's this" and "what does that mean" and happily offered me samples. I also liked that when I decided to order just one scoop they didn't give that "really that's all" look. To sum it up: give this place a try. Worst ever Customer Experience. After hearing raving reviews about Indian flavor ice creams in the Bay Area i made a point to visit the place. All of my Favorite flavors were there. I got super excited on seeing the variety. Visited the place this past Sunday with my Husband. So, one bespectacled server approached us. I asked, if can we do our own sundae combination. He said no. All our Sundaes are one flavor only. Well, sundaes are never one flavor. I asked about available Sundaes. Simple question, right!!. He showed the menu. I chose from the menu and waited for him to place the order. He goes to the other servers and tells them that they asked for these sundae. I can understand your conversation because i speak Hindi too. Server comes back to tell me that one flavor is missing. I switched the order with another one. It was a mango Alphonso and strawberry sundae with whipped cream and it was delicious. The second sundae was the blackcurrant and cheese cake flavor. Keep in mind the bespectacled server is not making our orders. The Lady server is making these. I am standing right there watching them prepare my sundae. She goes over and starts to scoop out blueberry cheese cake for my sundae. I insisted i have asked for blackcurrant sundae. She rolls her eyes and tells me that we are out cheese cake flavor and its the same if i use this purple color icecream or other. Then when i asked her to use only blackcurrant, she dumps the icecream back in the bucket and uses the same serving cup to make the sundae that i asked for. Rolls her eyes again. I would have appreciated that if she had asked or maybe acknowledged the fact that they are out of flavors and if i wanted to try something else. Nope! Didnt happen.Or Maybe used a new cup when she actually got my order right. Nope. I could still taste the cheese cake flavor. ruined the sundae. Also, they used frozen blueberries on the top and they seemed to have a weird taste as if they had gone bad. They could make out that this is our first time visit to their store and still didnt help us figure out the menu or items that are off the menu. It is not like that the kitchen and pantry are in the back and they do not know which items are not available. It is all infront of them in the refrigerators. Once, they got my mood spoiled i looked around and found that the store was also not kept clean. I may only have Indian flavor ice cream when i travel to India. But with such bad experience i am not hoping to come back and will make sure my friends and family dont visit either. It shouldnt impact business because they get by just fine. read more

Nirvanaah is what you will attain after slurping some of the tastiest ice cream flavors on this planet. American Ice Creams are so boring, Vanilla, Strawberry and umpteen combinations and permutations of Chocolate. Nirvanaah has a huge variety from the always reliable Alphonso Mango to boring Vanilla to exotic Meetha Paan and Rajbhog. If you dont know what to try here are some of my favorites: 1. Definitely try Meetha Paan once (for the betel nut and paan taste) 2. Rajbhog / Halwasan / Gulkhand (Rose Petals) 3. Thandai / Mango Pomogranate / Custard Apple (Sitaphal) 4. Alphonso Mango / Saffron / Pistachio Staff is good and patient. However, I docked 1 star because couple of times I arrived when the weather was hot outside and the AC was turned off! In an Ice Cream shop. It was cooler outside than in the store itself, but it was ridiculous that an Ice cream store would do that. I used to like this place a lot until I read the ingredients list on their to-go containers. The ice cream sold at Nirvanaah! is made by Kwality, a popular Indian ice cream company. The ice cream is advertised as having good quality, natural ingredients, but I feel that is misleading. I've had home-churned, authentic, natural Indian ice cream that was so good and pure that the cream would stick to the roof of your mouth, so I do have an informed opinion on this matter. I wish such ice cream were available here, but Nirvanaah! ice cream doesn't come close. Here are the ingredients from their popular Mango ice cream: fresh milk, Alphonso mango pulp, sugar, fresh cream, condensed skim milk, corn syrup, cellulose, vegetable gum, mono & diglycerides, polysorbate 80, carrageenan, natural flavor, artificial color FD&C yellow #5 and yellow #6. The first few ingredients sound quite normal, and then we arrive at the questionable stuff: Corn Syrup: if you used real sugar in the ice cream why do you need corn syrup? I don't have a problem with corn syrup per se, but almost all corn used in USA is genetically modified and this GM corn from USA has been linked to cancerous tumors in mice. Cellulose: this stuff is literally wood pulp. Yes, it's wood fiber. It is added to food because it is cheaper than milk, fat, oil, etc. and it creates the same effect in the mouth as those traditional ice cream ingredients. It may not be bad for you, but I don't want wood pulp in my ice cream. Vegetable Gum: "Vegetable gum is a powder or resin that is used in the food industry as a gelling agent, thickener, texturizer, stabilizer, humectant, binding agent and also to increase shelf life. Vegetable gum has the property to absorb many times its weight in water. There are many types of vegetable gum". They are most-likely harmless in small quantities. Mono & Diglycerides: Fat. Food companies have gotten more clever about hiding trans fat (the stuff that increases risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes) in their food. Mono & Diglycerides can be potential sources of trans fat even though the label may read 0% trans fat. There are many loopholes in food labeling. Do a search for these ingredients and you will see. Polysorbate 80: An emulsifier and stabilizer in food. This ingredient is probably not harmful in small quantities, but it has been linked to severe reproductive health problems in mice. Carrageenan: This ingredient is added to LOTS of different foods. It is made from parts of various red algae or seaweeds. Carrageenan is used as a binder, thickening agent, and as a stabilizer in medications, foods, and toothpaste. Carrageenan is also an ingredient in weight loss products. It is implicated in several digestive health problems including cancer, according to veteran carrageenan researcher Joanne Tobacman, MD, associate professor of clinical medicine at the University of Illinois School of Medicine at Chicago". There is currently an FDA petition to ban carrageenan. Natural Flavor: to be honest, this could literally be ANYTHING. For example, a bug could be considered "natural flavor". I'm not at all implying that Nirvanaah! ice cream has bugs. I'm only indicating that millions of things could pass for "natural flavors". It's the mystery stuff! Artificial Color Yellow #5 and Yellow #6: Artificial food colors are one of the most worthless ingredients in food, in my opinion. I don't care what color my food is as long as it tastes good and I presume most people over the age or 10 would agree. Food colors and dyes have been linked to many health problems and many are banned in European countries. Yellow #5 has been linked to ADHD (hyperactivity) and hypersensitivity reactions in children. Yellow #6 has caused adrenal tumors in animals and occasionally causes severe hypersensitivity reactions. In general, food coloring has been linked to several types of rashes, ADHD, allergies, migraines and cancers. It is user in medicines, vitamins, soaps, shampoos, detergents, toothpastes, etc. I want to clarify that Nirvanaah! ice cream isn't the only place that sells food with these ingredients. Many of these ingredients are quite normal in ice creams. I would wager most fast food places as well as restaurants sell foods with harmful ingredients. However, so many people get duped by catch phrases such as "All Natural", "100% Vegetarian", etc. In all fairness, their ingredients might be all natural, but so is a lion. You don't want to invite one to the dinner table. :-) I don't think people should avoid Nirvanaah! if they genuinely like the taste of their ice cream. My goal is to simply enable people to make an informed decision. That is all. How about some ice cream with ice, cream, milk, natural cane sugar (or Stevia would be even better), and real, non-engineered fruit or nuts, and NOTHING ELSE? Is that impossible? Nirvanah...indeed. I am so happy I found this place!! The shop itself is very welcoming to everyone. The kulfi and mango kulfi ice cream flavors are both delicious. We also had a really different cheese-based flavor tasted like a cross between Indian sweets and cheesecake. If you go here, do yourself a favor try the Indian flavors. The ice cream consistency is lighter than gelato. I believe that most flavors are vegan (feel free to call to check). One of my kids got a cup of bubblegum ice cream, but no one who is past kindergarten should really do that. The staff is very warm and helpful. You can describe what general types of flavors you like and they will recommend flavors for you to taste. On the flip side, if see a line, don't expect to get out of there quickly. There really should be a "just tasting" line and a seperate "ready to buy" line. read more

We tried the kulfi falooda. It was pretty good for a hot day. But the falooda had hardly any rabri and kulfi - it was mostly rose ice cream. That was disappointing. But more disappointing was the service - I do not know whether to describe it as rude or offensive or just out of the ordinary. We were standing in line to pay (there was a line, and we were 3rd when we got in line), and when it came to our turn, the cashier tells us to wait and choose instead to attend to the person behind us. As in randomly, decides that the person behind us deserved to be out of there first, when he clearly came after & had more items to check out. Haha. Never experienced anything like that. I got a cup with mango and malai kulfi ice cream. The scoop sizes were big and the ice cream was good but nothing special, although the fruity flavors tend to have an artificial taste that I'm not a fan of.
